It is putting everyone on the same page and helping them see the big picture of the organization. You must be a leader, not a boss.

First of all, you have to get people to follow you. How is this accomplished?

People follow others when they see a clear sense of purpose. People will only follow you if they see that you know where you are going. Remember that bumper sticker? The one that says, don't follow me, I'm lost too? The same holds true for leadership. If you yourself do not know where you're headed to, chances are people will not follow you at all.

You yourself must know the vision of the organization. Having a clear sense of hierarchy, knowing who the bosses are, who to talk to, the organization's goals and objectives, and how the organization works are the only way to show others you know what you are doing.

Being a leader is not about what you make others do. It's about who you are, what you know, and what you do. You are a reflection of what you're subordinating must be.

Studies have shown that one other base of good leadership is the trust and confidence your subordinates have of you. If they trust you they will go through hell and high water for you and for the organization.

Trust and confidence are built on good relationships, trustworthiness, and high ethics.

The way you deal with your people, and the relationships you build will lay the foundation for the strength of your group. The stronger your relationship, the stronger their trust and confidence are in your capabilities.

Once you have their trust and confidence, you may now proceed to communicate the goals and objectives you are to undertake.

Communication is a very important key to good leadership. Without this, you can not be a good leader. The knowledge and technical expertise you have must be clearly imparted to other people.

Also, you can not be a good leader unless you have good judgment. You must be able to assess situations, weigh the pros and cons of any decision, and actively seek out a solution.

It is this judgment that your subordinates will come to rely upon. Therefore, good decision-making is vital to the success of your organization.

Leaders are not do-it-all heroes. You should not claim to know everything, and you should not rely on your skills alone.

You should recognize and take advantage of the skills and talents your subordinates have. Only when you come to this realization will you be able to work as one cohesive unit.

Remember being a leader takes a good deal of work and time. It is not learned overnight. Remember, also, that it is not about just you. It is about you and the people around you.

So, do you have the drive and the desire to serve required of leaders? Do you have the desire to work cooperatively with other people? Then start now. Take your stand and be a leader today.

"The Way to Wellness": Your 7 Day Program

How many times have you gone to sleep at night, swearing you'll go to the gym in the morning, and then changing your mind just eight hours later because when you get up, you don't feel like exercising?

While this can happen to the best of us, it doesn't mean you should drop the idea altogether when it comes to staying fit. What people need to realize is that staying active and eating right are critical for long-term health and wellness -- you know what they say - an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. The more you know about how your body responds to your lifestyle choices, the better you can customize a nutrition and exercise plan for what is right for you.

When you eat well, increase your level of physical activity, and exercise at the proper intensity, you are informing your body that you want to burn a substantial amount of fuel. This translates to burning fat more efficiently for energy. In other words, proper eating habits plus exercise equals fast metabolism, which, in turn, gives you more energy throughout the day and allows you to do more physical work with less effort. It will also make you feel better and feel better about yourself.

The true purpose of exercise is to send a consistent message to the body asking for improvement in metabolism, strength, aerobic capacity and overall fitness and health. Each time you exercise, your body responds by upgrading its capacity to burn fat throughout the day and night, Exercise doesn't have to be intense to work for you, but it does need to be consistent.

I recommend engaging in regular cardiovascular exercise four times per week for 20 to 30 minutes per session, and resistance training four times per week for 20 to 25 minutes per session. This balanced approach provides a one-two punch, incorporating aerobic exercise to burn fat and deliver more oxygen, and resistance training to increase lean body mass and burn more calories around the block.

Here's a sample exercise program that may work for you:

* Warm Up -- seven to eight minutes of light aerobic activity intended to increase blood flow and lubricate and warm-up your tendons and joints.

* Resistance Training -- Train all major muscle groups. One to two sets of each exercise. Rest 45 seconds between sets.

* Aerobic Exercise -- Pick two favorite activities, they could be jogging, rowing, biking or cross-country skiing, whatever fits your lifestyle. Perform 12 to 15 minutes of the first activity and continue with 10 minutes of the second activity. Cool down during the last five minutes.

* Stretching -- Wrap up your exercise session by stretching, breathing deeply, relaxing and meditating.

When starting an exercise program, it is important to have realistic expectations. Depending on your initial fitness level, you should expect the following changes early on.

* From one to eight weeks -- Feel better and have more energy.

* From two to six months -- Lose size and inches while becoming leaner. Clothes begin to fit more loosely. You are gaining muscle and losing fat.

* After six months -- Start losing weight quite rapidly.

Once you make the commitment to exercise several times a week, don't stop there. You should also change your diet and/or eating habits.

Counting calories or calculating grams and percentages for certain nutrients is impractical. Instead, I suggest these easy-to-follow guidelines:

* Eat several small meals (optimally four) and a couple of small snacks throughout the day.

* Make sure every meal is balanced -- incorporate palm-sized proteins like lean meats, fish, egg whites and dairy products, fist-sized portions of complex carbohydrates like whole-wheat bread and pasta, wild rice, multigrain cereal and potatoes, and fist-sized portions of vegetable and fruits.

* Limit your fat intake to only what's necessary for adequate flavor.

* Drink at least eight 8-oz. glasses of water throughout the day.

* I also recommend that you take a multi-vitamin each day to ensure you are getting all the vitamins and minerals your body needs.

I think that just about covers it for now.

If you’ve placed second in a writing contest, will you jump for joy and push for better results the next time or will you be discouraged and find an excuse not to join again?

In life, you are always filled with choices. You may opt to have a pessimist’s view and live a self-defeated life or you may decide to take the optimist’s route and take a challenging and fulfilling life.

So why nurture an optimist’s point of view? And why now?

Well, optimism has been linked to positive mood and good morale; to academic, athletic, military, occupational and political success; to popularity; to good health and even to long life and freedom from trauma.

On the other hand, the rates of depression and pessimism have never been higher. It affects middle-aged adults the same way it hits younger people. The mean age of onset has gone from 30 to 15. It is no longer a middle-aged housewife’s disorder but also a teenager disorder as well.

Here’s how optimists are in action and the research that backs up why it really pays to be an optimist:

Optimists expect the best

The defining characteristic of pessimists is that they tend to believe bad events, which will last a long time and undermine everything they do, are their own fault.

The truth is optimists are confronted with the same hard knocks of this world. What differs is the way they explain their misfortune---it’s the opposite way. They tend to believe defeat is just a temporary setback, that its causes are confined to this one case.

Optimists tend to focus on and plan for the 'problem' at hand. They use 'positive reinterpretation.' In other words, they most likely reinterpret a negative experience in a way that helps them learn and grow. Such people are unfazed by a bad situation, they perceive it is a challenge and try harder.

They won’t say “things will never get better,” “If I failed once, it will happen again” and “If I experience misfortune in one part of my life, then it will happen in my whole life.”

Positive expectancies of optimists also predict better reactions during transitions to new environments, sudden tragedies and unlikely turn of events. If they fall, they will stand up. They see opportunities instead of obstacles.

People respond positively to optimists

Optimists are proactive and less dependent on others for their happiness. They find no need to control or manipulate people. They usually draw people toward them. Their optimistic view of the world can be contagious and influence those they are with.

Optimism seems a socially desirable trait in all communities. Those who share optimism are generally accepted while those who spread gloom, panic, and hysteria are treated unfavorably.

In life, these people often win elections; get voted most congenial and sought for advice.

When the going gets tough, optimists get tougher

Optimists typically maintain higher levels of subjective well-being during times of stress than do people who are less optimistic. In contrast, pessimists are likely to react to stressful events by denying that they exist or by avoiding dealing with problems. Pessimists are more likely to quit trying when difficulties arise.

They persevere. They just don’t give up easily, they are also known for their patience. Inching their way a step closer to that goal or elusive dream.

Optimists are healthier and live longer

Medical research has justified that simple pleasures and a positive outlook can cause a measurable increase in the body's ability to fight disease.

Optimists’ health is unusually good. They age well, much freer than most people from the usual physical ills of middle age. And they get to outlive those prone to negative thoughts.

So why not be an optimist today? And think positively towards a more fulfilled life.

Why not look forward to success in all your endeavors? Why not be resilient? Like everybody else you are bound to hit lows sometimes but don’t just stay there. Carry yourself out of the mud and improve your chances of getting back on the right track. And why not inspire others to remove their dark-colored glasses and see life on the bright side?

8 Simple Steps To Problem Solving: Adventures in Creative Thinking

How many times have you felt stumped knowing that the problem laying before you is one you cannot solve. No leads. No options. No solutions. How many times have you caught yourself saying that there could be no other solution to a problem and that that problem leads to a dead end?

Did it feel like you had exhausted all possible options and yet are still before the mountain – large, unconquerable, and impregnable? When encountering such hefty problems, you may feel like you're hammering your head against a brick wall. The pressure of having to solve such a problem can be overwhelming.

But do not despair! There is some hope yet!

With some creative problem-solving techniques you may be able to look at your problem from a different angle. And that angle just might be the end of the tunnel that leads to possible solutions.

To start with, in the light of creative problem-solving, you must be open-minded to the fact that there may be more than just one solution to the problem. And, you must be open to the fact that there may be solutions to problems you thought were unsolvable.

Now, with this optimistic mindset, we can try to be a little bit more creative in solving our problems.

#1; maybe the reason we cannot solve our problems is that we have not really taken a hard look at what the problem is, maybe we haven't even really identified the problem yet. Here, trying to understanding the problem and having a concrete understanding of its workings is integral to solving the problem. If you know how it works, what the problem is, then you have a better foundation towards solving the problem.

Try to identify the participating entities and what their relationships with one another are. Not trying to make the simple statement of what the problem is. Take note of the things you stand to gain or stand to lose from the current problem. Now you have a simple statement of what the problem is.

#2; try to take note of all of the constraints and assumptions with which you have the words to describe the problem. Sometimes it is these assumptions that obstruct our view of possible solutions. You have to identify which assumptions are valid, in which assumptions need to be addressed and possibly altered.

#3; try solving the problem in parts. Solve it going from general view towards the more detailed parts of the problem. This is called the top-down approach. Write down the question, and then come up with a one-sentence solution to that from them. The solution should be a general statement of what will solve the problem. From here you can develop the solution further, and increase its complexity little by little.

#4; although it helps to have critical thinking involved as you solve a problem, you must also keep a creative, analytical voice in the back of your head. When someone comes up with a prospective solution, try to think how you could make that solution work. Try to be creative. At the same time, look for chinks in the armor of that solution.

#5; it pays to remember that there may be more than just one solution being developed at one time. Try to keep track of all the solutions and their developments. Remember, there may be more than just one solution to the problem.

#6; remember that old adage," two heads are better than one." That one is truer than it sounds. This is especially true when the person you're talking to has had experience solving problems similar to yours. Always be open to new ideas. You can only benefit from listening to all the ideas each person has.

#7; Try Brainstorming, this is simpler than it sounds. All you need to do is clear your mind, think about the problem, and write down everything that comes to mind. No matter how ridiculous it may initially sound. You can go through the list later and sort it all out.

You don't have to be a gung-ho, solo hero to solve the problem. If you can organize collective thought on the subject, it would be much better.

#8; be patient. As long as you persevere, there is always a chance that a solution will present itself. Remember that no one was able to create an invention the first time around.

Creative thinking exercises can also help you in your quest be a more creative problems solver.

Here is one example.

Take a piece of paper and write any word that comes to mind at the center. Now, look at that word then write the first two words that come to your mind. This can go on until you can build a tree of related words. This helps you build analogical skills, and fortify your creative processes.

So, next time you see a problem and you think you can't solve it, think again. The solution might just be staring you right in the face. All it takes is just a little creative thinking, some planning, and a whole lot of work.

Make Your Offer Irresistible

Since we’re marketers and we're selling to human beings, don’t you think it might be critically important to know the five basic secrets that will generate results and have the greatest influence or impact on your customers?

I’m about to share with you something that will most likely make you seem like the Da Vinci of Marketing in your niche.

These can be switched around, they can be overlapped, use them to fit your particular sales situation, but I have arranged them in 'order of use' as they should appear in the marketing process.

In nature, in the presence of a vacuum, something will ALWAYS try to fill a void. Right? Well, the same is true for humans, human nature also follows this law of nature consistently and without fail.

This creates a wonderful circumstance for us marketers – here's why:

1. Natural Laws – The act of someone doing another person a favor or giving them something of value for free, causes an imbalance in the relationship between those two people. This imbalance further creates a subconscious pressure on the recipient to return some kind of value to the other person in some way. This is what’s known in marketing as 'The Law of Reciprocity'.

2. Reciprocation – The word “FREE”, in the marketing sense, elicits the highest response of any other word in the English language. That’s why we marketers use it over, and over again. That's not really such a hard concept to comprehend, is it? Wouldn't you agree that everybody likes free stuff? Don’t you? And even though “free” means something given, and received, without any return obligation or consideration, the recipient still feels obligated to return something of value.

As described above, if something of real value is given to a person, an imbalance is created – a void in nature – that needs to be filled, maybe not immediately, but eventually. If that person has gotten great value and uses from the gift, there will be a nagging sub-conscious motivation to reciprocate in some manner.

By contrast, I have found that some people just don’t appear to reciprocate at all, this is probably due to a perceived lack of value by the prospect or they simply didn't appreciate the full value of the offer. For that reason alone, it’s very important to make sure that your free gift offerings are associated with a promotion. And a promotion that your customers are conspicuously made aware of the total, real value they’re receiving.

3. Get your prospects to like you - Another 'Law of Nature' can be realized from the phrase, “if a customer knows, likes and trusts you - they’ll buy from you”. That know-like-trust process begins with your “free offer”. Now that you’ve introduced yourself with your “free” offer, you've completed the first part – they KNOW you.

The next step is to get them to “like” you. The surest way I'm aware of to get someone to like you is to let them know that you like them (reciprocity, again).

So, here again, not ALL people are going to “like” you and, believe it or not, you’re not going to like all your customers, but this is just the way it is. However, if you follow this formula, you’ve got considerably much better odds of finding customers.

Your ads and marketing letters must always be written as if they are a personal note to a real, live, breathing friend. Talk as if you’re talking to your best friend, and ditch the techno-babble”. Keep It Simple Smiley! (BTW, this is my personal motto - K.I.S.S. Lol)

And the last part of the formula:

4. Trust – You know? Trust is a funny thing. It's HARD AS HELL to earn, and easy as pie to lose. Now I don’t know about you, but whenever someone says “TRUST ME” the first thing that comes to my mind is a con-man, slimy used car or snake oil salesman, and the last thing I would do is trust them.

So the magical question becomes “how do you get your customers to trust you?” And the answer is really threefold:

Be honest – don't ever lie, mislead, or embellish your marketing messages – especially to just make a sale. Believe me, word will get around fast and before you can say “Jack Robbins”, your business will follow your reputation right down the tubes.
Be genuine – be who you are. Don't try to be something or someone you're not. It's unavoidable that you will change as you grow into the person you were meant to be. But, above all, always remain humble and never forget where you came from or the journey you've traveled.
And be a leader. Accept the leadership role with regard to your customers and prospects. Don't hesitate a bit to tell them what they should do, what action(s) to take in order to buy from you.

Convey your confidence, ask for the sale. You can't be wishy-washy, present yourself as an “Authority” figure. You are the expert in your field and the only one they should buy from.

Always collect testimonials and endorsements. As proof of your trustworthiness, present the endorsements of your other customers, their friends, and neighbors.

Any offer made in letter form must include some endorsements from other customers. You should also mention articles written about you, as-well-as books, articles, newsletters that you’ve written, etc. It often amazes me at how difficult it is for most people to make a decision, so it’s a far better strategy that you provide your prospects with an action plan that leads them to say “yes”.

5. Scarcity – If there's a better persuader than this that can really motivate human beings to action, I don't know what it is. But years of experience has taught me that you must create and manage this marketing strategy to your advantage in every offer you make.

Think about the law of supply and demand. If demand for a product is high and supply is low, then the price will be acceptable regardless if it is high or low. Most people look for things that solve their problems or make them feel good about themselves and that are of good quality. And for some reason, they want it even more – if the quantity is limited in some way.

So even if you can just create the “perception” of a limited number of available units, a limited time frame for availability, or whatever other aspects you can conceive of to use, you’ll find this strategy to be a rapid catalyst to action for your customer.

The trick to making this work in marketing, though, is that you make your “free” offer available as-soon-as your customer takes action. The action needn't be much, it can be a very small one in-fact, like filling out an opt-in form for you (which gives you their name and email address), or accepting your product on a 30-day free trial basis.

The final piece to this puzzle, of course, is that you always include a guarantee of some kind in all your offers. I prefer the “Unconditional - no questions asked” type of guarantee - for 30, 60, 90 days, or even a full year if it fits your model. This type of strategy allows you to emphasize your credibility (trust) by saying you’re going to be around for a while. I’ve found that more often than not, there are very few takers to the guarantee policy you offer, and if there is – you wouldn’t want to keep an unsatisfied customer anyway, right?

Well, there you have it. That is the strategies and techniques I use every day in my business and marketing to generate real results.

Make sure to incorporate all five of these marketing tips in every single one of your offers (ads, sales letters, presentations, etc.) and you’ll experience dramatic results along with an increase in your business.

How To Recruit Dealer/Distributors To Sell For You

The dream of owning a business that draws in money like a supermassive black hole on steroids, where other people do all the work, and your only duties involve the approval of sales and cashing checks seems to be at the top of everybody's fantasy lifestyle list. It's the only way to go as a business owner.

The problem with this scenario is, however, very few people, if anybody seems to know how to "put together" such a business. What we're actually looking at here is a situation where you supply the product and someone else does all the selling - A prime source with a dealer or distributor network.

Supposing that you have developed a product, you'll also have to put together a sales kit as well, along with plenty of impressive, eye-catching promotional materials. If you fail to supply or offer to supply such materials to your sales force to assist them in selling the product, you'll certainly have a very difficult time recruiting or signing up distributors to sell that product for you. It's also very unlikely you will be setting any sales records relative to your product either.

Let's look at this another way. Perhaps you've got a book you're marketing (like mine – “SIMPLE GUIDE TO AFFILIATE MARKETING” - it's FREE, so go ahead and grab your copy, we'll wait). Okay, if you intend to sell this book, you'll need to get the word out to the market that you have such a book available, RIGHT?

Advertising Circulars

Advertising this book to the marketplace on your own is going to cost you a bit of money, and unless you've got a good understanding of the advertising business, you most likely will never reach the full sales potential of the book. Besides, the time and energy required to find the "best" place to advertise, placing your ads, monitoring your results, while dealing with the frustration of curiosity seekers and the like, will eventually just wear you out.

I'll bet this is not the way you envisioned your life would turn out when you initially got the idea to write that book. Your thoughts were probably closer to this - “Hey, I'm going to get rich and enjoy a lifestyle of freedom and leisure”.

Therefore, just as soon as you've got your book written (this book being your product, if it's a real, physical product and if you're self-publishing), you get a few "bids" out to the local advertising agencies in your area, the freelancers, and the advertising department at your local colleges. What you are really looking at these people to do is to draft an Advertising Circular that promotes and sells your book.

Now then, as I've discussed in previous articles, in a different, perhaps smaller type text, and kind of like an afterthought, at or near the bottom of this advertising circular, you just happen to include the phrase:

“Dealer Inquiries Invited”...

You have just developed a proven, results-oriented local advertising plan. (If your book is a digital product, your action steps will be somewhat different, but you're still looking for the same basic results – sells. I'll explain more on how to market a digital product in a minute.)

Look over all the submitted circulars and choose the one(s) you consider the best. Have a supply of these printed up at your local print shop, then obtain a mailing list of opportunity seekers, and get them in the mail.

Just as soon as you've dropped your first set of circulars in the mail, start writing your dealer/distributor letter. This should simply explain how you will drop-ship orders for their customers, paying them a specified commission on each sale and, your price per copy that you'll be selling your book to them for (in wholesale quantity lots). Also, the letter should include a copy of your advertising circular, with an explanation, reassuring your dealers that they can reproduce this circular with their name/address in place of yours on the order coupon.

You could even include a brief note that you will pre-print these circulars with the dealer's name/address and ship them to him for a wholesale printing price. This just means that you are supplying the dealer with everything they need to promote and sell copies of your book for you.

You must realize that you can only reach so many people, and sell so many books by yourself. By recruiting 1,000 people to help you, mailing advertising circulars and running small ads in hundreds of opportunity seeker publications, your costs of advertising your business becomes minimal while your book sale skyrocket.

Don't forget though, that you will still need:

An impressive, eye-catching advertising circular or mailing package for your sales force to use as their own.

A clear easy-to-understand book (in wholesale quantity lots), and the availability of advertising materials for your dealers.

Any advertising circular should be designed as a dual purpose piece:

First – you send the circular out to solicit sales of your product,
Yet at the same time, you're recruiting dealers (being so impressed with your advertising materials that they feel without a doubt that they can make some money for themselves by promoting your product).

Again, this doesn't require much more than adding this simple, three-word phrase “Dealer Inquiries Invited”...at the bottom of the circular.

The next thing you'll need to do is to contract to run as many small DEALERS WANTED ads, in as many of the mail order publications, as you can. These ads can be either a classified ad or a small, eye-catching one-inch display ad like this:

DEALERS WANTED! Unique new book. Selling like crazy!

Make $12 profit on every $24 sale!

For Details send SASE to: [YOUR BUSINESS ADDRESS]

That is your basic "dealers wanted" ad, and with lots of exposure in as many of the mail order publications as you can get, over a sufficient period of time – six or eight months, you should have hundreds of people, possibly from all over the country, selling your book for you. Simple, easy, yet very effective – it works!

Now I'm sure you're probably thinking to yourself “I'm an internet marketer, when or why would I ever do anything in print?” Well, think about it this way:

first – as a shrewd businessman you should always be learning new strategies and techniques to implement into your business practices.
second – these techniques still work for physical products or for local marketing.
third – it is always better to utilize as many different channels as you can in your advertising scheme to insure that you get the most exposure possible and also so that if one strategy should stop working, for whatever reason, you still have other strategies working for your business.

Okay, now that we've covered that, let's go over how to do the same thing - only now on a digital platform.

In the online world this is referred to as an 'affiliate program' and setting up an affiliate program definitely requires a unique set of skills.

For example, if you don't already know html and java script or some other programming language, it's probably best to outsource all your programming.

You'll need a website to house your product(s), a payment platform to pay your affiliates, and just like for a physical product as described above – some digital advertising material (i.e. banners and image files, sales letters, email and text swipe files (just to name a few), and some training materials on how to use and market the product would be nice too : )

You'll also need a Customer Support system to handle problems like refunds/returns, and field questions. And a fulfillment system to deliver product(s) (physical and/or digital).

There are a considerable number of tasks involved in setting all that stuff up. But this article isn't about starting a business from scratch. It's about recruiting distributors, isn't it? The only reason I mention all that in the previous several paragraphs is to not only illustrate what is involved in such an undertaking but also to give you an idea of what you should look for in any affiliate program that you decide to join.

In building my own business from scratch over the past 10 years, I've found that once you've established a basic dealer/distributor network, or a list of people selling for you. You can add hundreds of related products, and the orders just keep coming in. Give it a try and see for yourself just how easy and profitable it can be for you!

When your website is ranked well enough in the most popular search engines get you more visitors clicking on your site, this is called organic traffic. The more visitors you get the more business you generate. Do you realize that about 20 percent to 80 percent of your visitors will find your website through the search engines yet studies indicate that most people do not look past the fourth page of results?

There was a time when you could use free submission services that would submit your website to search engines and directories, but they are not are effective as they used to be. Back in the day, that would actually get you ranked OK. Today, not so much so. You naturally want to get ranked at LEAST on the first page of Google and Yahoo. The best option would be to get ranked in the top 3 listings of both Google and Yahoo. However, this isn’t easy.

All search engines spider or crawl the Web and automatically index your website based on their own secretive algorithms, which are continually in a state of flux. How do you get ranked well? One option is you can use pay-per-click, which is where you bid for top ranking positions under keywords of your choice. The trick here is to just make sure that the bids you make are not more than what each customer is worth to you in your marketing budget. For example, if your maximum bid per click is 10.00 dollars and it takes 100 visitors to make a sale, you are probably going to lose money.

To get ranked high, you will need to have a website updated regularly with fresh keyword rich content and good links to other sites with high page ranking. You could have an RSS feed in your site as well so that the content remains fresh and new articles are submitted on a regular basis to keep the customers interested and the search engines satisfied.

Keywords are critical to ranking high in the search engines.

Keywords are words that people will use when searching a subject. For example, someone looking for information on losing weight will use the keyword “losing weight” in their searches, so in your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) you will want to use that keyword and any other related keywords as often as you relevantly can.

Keep these points in mind, search engines are looking for fresh information, good linking, and relevance. These traits are common to all high ranked sites.

If only self-improvement advice were free and scattered around everywhere, then there will be no problem regarding life, happiness, and success. But then again, this is life. And it does not work that way.

What would you do if you are trapped in an environment that you do not want to be in? What if you are sick and tired of your job?

What can we do to solve this dilemma?

It is possible to take inspired and motivated action to survive your present situation and live the life you always dreamed of.

It is not that easy though. You will have to come out of your comfort zones to discover potentials and opportunities waiting for you. You have to conquer your fear and take calculated risks. You have to stay focused and persevere despite the difficulties you will encounter.

Success does not come easy. It takes heart, passion and time. Experience is also a factor. The learning you get every day becomes your foundation. These are the things we do not need to pay for.

You have to work harder, dig deeper, and sacrifice more to attain your ambitions. But no, you do not have to hate the world and feel bad when you encounter difficult situations. Just remember the Law of Attraction. If you hate the world, the world will hate you back.

1. Learn to love your current situation. See all the positive sides of life. Be enthusiastic. Love your boss, your coworkers, your family, your friends, and even strangers that you meet on the streets.

It may not be easy, but nothing is impossible with strong willpower. Just do not fall in love so much that you totally forget about your dreams. Love, but try to hold on to reality.

2. Balance is the key. Dream and take some positive action to move you toward your goals. Take it one step at a time.

While you are slowly starting on the long journey to success, be patient and be as enthusiastic as possible. Do not hurry up too much that you totally forget how to enjoy life. Appreciate the beautiful things you will encounter on the journey.

One day, you will finally attain what you have always longed for. But when that day comes, do not look down on those who belittled you. Forgive and forget.

3. Stay humble. Do not criticize others when you see that you are becoming more successful than they are. Try to help them. Inject your positive aura into their personalities. When you give, you will yield back equal or greater rewards.

4. Are you ready to begin the journey? Start it with the courage and desire to improve your life. Survive and go through it with persistence, enthusiasm, and positive thinking. Finish it with a resounding bang of accomplishment and with the desire to help others succeed as well.

There are many other self-improvement possibilities that will get as you get on with your daily life. Take note that you are not alone. There are others in much more difficult situations. Work Your Sales Process

Everyone would agree that a structured sales method is needed for maximum efficiency, yet we all know of companies that ignore this fact. Without a set of steps or structure, sales are lost or ineffective so the process in use has to be assessed.

Perhaps your problem is that you haven’t taken the time to develop and implement a sales process. This may be because you viewed it as “busy work” with too many forms to fill out, or you felt that your sales team would perceive it as a “control” tactic. Whatever your reason for the delay, now is the time to correct the error and increase sales. To do this we must evaluate our reasoning about our customers.

Instead of asking “What do we need to do to close this deal?” You should be asking, “What does the customer need to do in order to buy?” This change results in a major shift in how you think about the job of selling. Consider these points:

What is the buying process of this customer? We need to know what it will take, and who needs to be involved for this client to make a purchase.

Where is our client in their buying processes? Is your client a day or two away from signing a contract, or are they still “kicking the tires”?

What is the next reasonable step they must take? If you can figure out where they are and what it’s going to take to make them buy, then we can find the next logical step for them to take.

What can we do to get them to take that step? Once we know what our customer needs to do next, then we can figure out what we need to do next in our selling process.

We should operate with the knowledge that everything we do in our sales process is done to help our clients do what they need to do to buy. Any action that we take that is not done with the intent of empowering or encouraging our client to move closer to a purchase is wasted energy.

The same logic holds true for any meetings with company executives of your prospect. Ask yourself what exactly is it that you want your client to do as a result of this meeting? You should never go into any meeting without a plan of what you want that meeting to accomplish. Do you want that company bigwig to:

Endorse your plan, and have you meet with some of the other executives?
Schedule a meeting where you can bring in an associate to provide a better under-standing of how your product will benefit this client?
Commit to or schedule a time to meet again with you for your recommendations for meeting their needs?

Always have a plan of action before you deal with your sales prospect so that it’s a fruitful use of time.

This may seem like a lot of work before the sale, but remember before you drive over to see a client – or worse, get on an airplane to fly there – if we don’t have a knowledge of their buying process and where they are in that process, we won’t know what to say or do to enable them. Then we are nothing more than a professional visitor – not a professional sales person.

When you get sick, you go to the doctor. And the doctor will, of course, prescribe medicines. You will go and buy medicines. You take them, and hopefully, you get well.

This is how the health profession goes on nowadays – a cycle of diagnosis and prescription.

If anyone were to give you herbs for medicine, you would probably say that that person was a quack.

But nowadays, studies are being conducted to see if there are really is any merit to what is called natural medicine.

Natural medicine is the use of natural methods, herbal medicines, and traditional practices to heal ailments. Every culture has a form of natural medicine. In ancient cultures, village medicine men served as the doctors of the community, passing on medical knowledge to the apprentices that followed them.

Many categories of healing methods fall under natural medicine. Among these are traditional medicine, complementary medicine, and alternative medicine.

Usually, natural medicine refers to medical practices that were in place before the advent of modern medicine.

This includes herbal medicine, or phytotherapy, which is prevalent in Chinese, Ayurvedic(or Indian), and Greek medicine.

Upon the advent of modern medicine, many professionals discarded the use of herbs in favor of man-made medicine. The fact that these treatments are based on the healing properties of some herbs was forgotten.

For example, opium, digitalis, quinine, and aspirin all have their roots in traditional medicine.

Natural medicine can be considered as a lost art. This does not mean that it has lost efficacy over time. In some cases, natural therapy is actually better than modern medicine. This leads some doctors to seriously consider and study the possible uses of natural medicine.

Before we continue, it is important to stress that not all the natural remedies are legitimate. It would help to only try those remedies which have been thoroughly studied and are relatively risk-free.

Take herbal medicine for example. There are many well-documented and studied herbal remedies available. However, only those that deal with minor ailments such as a cough, colds, fever, skin rashes, and its ilk are likely to be recommended by health professionals. These remedies are sometimes superior to synthetic medicine. This is because herbal medicines are less likely to cause negative side effects.

You could mention homeopathy, aromatherapy, acupuncture, and other alternative medical treatments. It would pay to consult the experts as to the legitimacy of these treatments.

Natural medicine should also be thought of as an accompanying medicine. Right now, the current collective medical thought suggests that natural medicine be used only to supplement accepted modern medical practices. The practice of modern medicine revolves around diagnosing an illness and prescribing treatments for such. Why Coaching is the Way to Go in Team Management

When you hear the word “coach”, what comes first into your mind? Do you picture a basketball team with a man/woman shouting out directions? Or perhaps a football team with a man/woman pacing to and fro and calling out the names of the players?

Coaching is no longer reserved for sports teams; it is now one of the key concepts in leadership and management. Why is coaching popular?

Coaching levels the playing field.

Coaching is one of the six emotional leadership styles proposed by Daniel Goleman. Moreover, it is a behavior or role that leaders enforce in the context of situational leadership. As a leadership style, coaching is used when the members of a group or team are competent and motivated but do not have an idea of the long-term goals of an organization. This involves two levels of coaching: team and individual. Team coaching makes members work together. In a group of individuals, not everyone may have nor share the same level of competence and commitment to a goal. A group may be a mix of highly competent and moderately competent members with varying levels of commitment. These differences can cause friction among the members. The coaching leader helps the members level their expectations. Also, the coaching leader manages differing perspectives so that the common goal succeeds over personal goals and interests. In a big organization, leaders need to align the staffs’ personal values and goals with that of the organization so that long-term directions can be pursued.

Coaching builds up confidence and competence.

Individual coaching is an example of situational leadership at work. It aims to mentor one-on-one building up the confidence of members by affirming good performance during regular feedbacks; and increase competence by helping the member assess his/her strengths and weaknesses towards career planning and professional development. Depending on the individual’s level of competence and commitment, a leader may exercise more coaching behavior for the less-experienced members. Usually, this happens in the case of new staffs. The direct supervisor gives more defined tasks and holds regular feedbacks for the new staff, and gradually lessens the amount of coaching, directing, and supporting roles to favor delegating as competence and confidence increase.

Coaching promotes individual and team excellence.

Excellence is a product of habitual good practice. The regularity of meetings and constructive feedback is important in establishing habits. Members catch the habit of constantly assessing themselves for their strengths and areas for improvement that they themselves perceive what knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to acquire to attain team goals. In the process, they attain individually excellence as well. An example is in the case of a musical orchestra: each member plays a different instrument. In order to achieve harmony of music from the different instrument, members will polish their part in the piece, aside from practicing as an ensemble. Consequently, they improve individually as an instrument player.

Coaching develops a high commitment to common goals.

A coaching leader balances the attainment of immediate targets with long-term goals towards the vision of an organization. As mentioned earlier, with the alignment of personal goals with organizational or team goals, personal interests are kept in check. By constantly communicating the vision through formal and informal conversations, the members are inspired and motivated. Setting short-term team goals aligned with organizational goals; and making an action plan to attain these goals can help sustain the increased motivation and commitment to common goals of the members.

Coaching produces valuable leaders.

Leadership by example is important in coaching. A coaching leader loses credibility when he/she cannot practice what he/she preaches. This means that a coaching leader should be well organized, highly competent in his/her field, communicates openly and encourages feedback, and has a clear idea of the organization’s vision-mission-goals. By vicarious and purposive learning, members catch the same good practices and attitudes from the coaching leader, turning them into coaching leaders themselves. If a member experiences good coaching, he/she is most likely to do the same things when entrusted with formal leadership roles.

Some words of caution though: coaching is just one of the styles of leadership. It can be done in combination with the other five emotional leadership styles depending on the profile of the emerging team. Moreover, coaching as a leadership style requires that you are physically, emotionally, and mentally fit most of the time since it involves two levels of coaching: individual and team. Your members expect you to be the last one to give up or bail out in any situation especially during times of crises. A coaching leader must be conscious that coaching entails investing time on each individual, and on the whole team. Moreover, that the responsibilities are greater since while you are coaching members, you are also developing future coaches as well.

"A Piece of Blarney Stone" 10 ways to empower your communication

The Blarney Stone is a historical stone, or actually part of the Blarney Castle in Ireland where it was believed that kissing the stone can grant you the gift of gab. Yeah, it seems strange in this day and age, but who are we to question tradition? It's not like I'm saying that Santa Claus doesn't exist (OOPS!).

There is so much to know about conversation that anyone, even I, could ever realize. You can go though watching talk shows; radio programs; clubs dedicated to public speaking; ordinary conversations; certain rules still apply when it comes to interaction through words. It may sound tedious, I know, but even though it's your mouth that's doing the work, your brain works twice as hard to churn out a lot of things you know. So what better way to start learning to be an effective communication is to know the very person closest to you: yourself.

1. What you know.

Education is all about learning the basics, but to be an effective speaker is to practice what you've learned. My stint as a guest at every Toastmasters' meeting I go to teach me that we all have our limitations, but that doesn't mean we can't learn to keep up and share what we know.

2. Listening.

It's just as important as asking questions. Sometimes listening to the sound of our own voice can teach us to be a little bit confident with ourselves and to say the things we believe in with conviction.

3. Humility

We all make mistakes, and sometimes we tend to slur our words, stutter, and probably mispronounce certain words even though we know what it means, but rarely use it only to impress listeners. So in a group, don't be afraid to ask if you're saying the right word properly and if they're unsure about it then make a joke out of it. I promise you it'll make everyone laugh and you can get away with it as well.

4. Eye Contact

There's a lot to say when it comes to directing your attention to your audience with an eye-catching gaze. It's important that you keep your focus when talking to a large group in a meeting or a gathering, even though he or she may be gorgeous.

5. Kidding around

A little bit of humor can do wonders to lift the tension, or worse boredom when making your speech. That way, you'll get the attention of the majority of the crowd and they'll feel that you're just as approachable, and as human to those who listen.

6. Be like the rest of them

Interaction is all about mingling with other people. You'll get a lot of ideas, as well as knowing what people make them as they are.

7. Me, Myself, and I

Admit it, there are times you sing to yourself in the shower. I know I do! Listening to the sound of your own voice while you practice your speech in front of a mirror can help correct the stress areas of your pitch. And while you're at it you can spruce up as well.

8. With a smile

A smile says it all much like eye contact. There's no point on grimacing or frowning in a meeting or a gathering unless it's awake. You can better express what you're saying when you smile.

9. A Role Model

There must be at least one or two people in your life you have listened to when they're at a public gathering or maybe at church. Sure they read their lines, but taking a mental note of how they emphasize what they say can help you once you take center stage.

10. Preparation

Make the best out of preparation rather than just scribbling notes and often in a hurried panic. Some people like to write things down on index cards, while other resort to being a little more silly as they look at their notes written on the palm of their hand (not for clammy hands, please). Just be comfortable with what you know since you enjoy your work.

And that about wraps it up. These suggestions are rather amateurish in edgewise, but I've learned to empower myself when it comes to public or private speaking and it never hurts to be with people to listen how they make conversations and meetings far more enjoyable as well as educational.

Achieve Excellence In Sales (Part 2)

Selling is challenging. It demands the utmost of your creativity and innovative thinking. The more success you want, and the more dedicated you are to achieving your goals, the more you'll sell. Hundreds of people the world over become millionaires each month through selling. Many of them were flat broke and unable to find a "regular" job when they began their selling careers. Yet they've done it, and you can do it too!

Remember, it's the surest way to all the wealth you could ever want. You get paid according to your own efforts, skill, and knowledge of people. If you're ready to become rich, then think seriously about selling a product or service (preferably something exclusively yours) - something that you "pull out of your brain"; something that you write, manufacture or produce for the benefit of other people. But failing this, the want ads are full of opportunities for ambitious sales people. You can start there, study, learn from experience, and watch for the chance that will allow you to move ahead by leaps and bounds.

Here are some guidelines that will definitely improve your gross sales, and quite naturally, your gross income. Here are the Strategic Salesmanship Commandments. Look them over; give some thought to each of them, and adapt those that you can to your own selling efforts.

1. If the product you're selling is something your prospect can hold in his hands, get it into his hands as quickly as possible. In other words, get the prospect "into the act". Let him feel it, weigh it, admire it.

2. Don't stand or sit alongside your prospect. Instead, face him while you're pointing out the important advantages of your product. This will enable you to watch his facial expressions and determine whether and when you should go for the close. In handling sales literature, hold it by the top of the page, at the proper angle, so that your prospect can read it as you're highlighting the important points.

Regarding your sales literature, don't release your hold on it, because you want to control the specific parts you want the prospect to read. In other words, you want the prospect to read or see only the parts of the sales material you're telling him about at a given time.

3. With prospects who won't talk with you: When you can get no feedback to your sales presentation, you must dramatize your presentation to get him involved. Stop and ask questions such as, "Now, don't you agree that this product can help you or would be of benefit to you?" After you've asked a question such as this, stop talking and wait for the prospect to answer. It's a proven fact that following such a question, the one who talks first will lose, so don't say anything until after the prospect has given you some kind of answer. Wait him out!

4. Prospects who are themselves salespeople, and prospects who imagine they know a lot about selling sometimes present difficult selling obstacles, especially for the novice. But believe me, these prospects can be the easiest of all to sell. Simply give your sales presentation, and instead of trying for a close, toss out a challenge such as, "I don't know, Mr. Prospect - after watching your reactions to what I've been showing and telling you about my product, I'm very doubtful as to how this product can truthfully be of benefit to you".

Then wait a few seconds, just looking at him and waiting for him to say something. Then, start packing up your sales materials as if you are about to leave. In almost every instance, your "tough nut" will quickly ask you, Why? These people are generally so filled with their own importance, that they just have to prove you wrong. When they start on this tangent, they will sell themselves. The more skeptical you are relative to their ability to make your product work to their benefit, the more they'll demand that you sell it to them.

If you find that this prospect will not rise to your challenge, then go ahead with the packing of your sales materials and leave quickly. Some people are so convinced of their own importance that it is a poor use of your valuable time to attempt to convince them.

5. Remember that in selling, time is money! Therefore, you must allocate only so much time to each prospect. The prospect who asks you to call back next week, or wants to ramble on about similar products, prices or previous experiences, is costing you money. Learn to quickly get your prospect interested in, and wanting your product, and then systematically present your sales pitch through to the close, when he signs on the dotted line and reaches for his checkbook.

After the introductory call on your prospect, you should be selling products and collecting money. Any callbacks should be only for reorders, or to sell him related products from your line. In other words, you can waste an introductory call on a prospect to qualify him, but you're going to be wasting money if you continue calling on him to sell him the first unit of your product. When faced with a reply such as, "Your product looks pretty good, but I'll have to give some thought", you should quickly jump in and ask him what specifically about your product does he feel he needs to give more thought. Let him explain, and that's when you go back into your sales presentation and make everything crystal clear for him. If he still balks, then you can either tell him that you think he product will really benefit him, or it's purchase be to his benefit.

You must spend as much time as possible calling on new prospects. Therefore, your first call should be a selling call with follow-up calls by mail or telephone (once every month or so in person) to sign him for re-orders and other items from your product line.

6. Review your sales presentation, your sales materials, and your prospecting efforts. Make sure you have a "door-opener" that arouses interest and "forces" a purchase the first time around. This can be a $2 interest stimulator so that you can show him your full line, or a special marked-down price on an item that everybody wants; but the important thing is to get the prospect on your "buying customer" list, and then follow up via mail or telephone or email with related, but more profitable products you have to offer.

Most people are always striving to better themselves. It's the "American Way". For proof, check the sales figures on the number of self-improvement books sold each year. This is not a pitch for you to jump in and start selling these kinds of books, but it is an indication of people's awareness that in order to better themselves, they have to continue improving their personal selling abilities.

To excel in any selling situation, you must have confidence, and confidence comes, first and foremost, from knowledge. You have to know and understand yourself and your goals. You have to recognize and accept your weaknesses as well as your special talents. This requires a kind of personal honesty that not everyone is capable of exercising.

In addition to knowing yourself, you must continue learning about people. Just as with yourself, you must be caring, forgiving and laudatory with others. In any sales effort, you must accept other people as they are, not as you would like for them to be. One of the most common faults of sales people is impatience when the prospective customer is slow to understand or make a decision. The successful salesperson handles these situations the same as he would if he were asking a girl for a date, or even applying for a new job.

Learning your product, making a clear presentation to qualified prospects, and closing more sales will take a lot less time once you know your own capabilities and failings, and understand and care about the prospects you are calling upon.

Our society is predicated upon selling, and all of us are selling something all the time. We move up or stand still in direct relation to our sales efforts. Everyone is included, whether we're attempting to be a friend to a co-worker, a neighbor, or selling multi-million dollar real estate projects. Accepting these facts will enable you to understand that there is no such thing as a born salesman. Indeed, in selling, we all begin at the same starting point, and we all have the same finish line as the goal - a successful sale.

Most assuredly, anyone can sell anything to anybody. As a qualification to this statement, let us say that some things are easier to sell than others, and some people work harder at selling than others. But regardless of what you're selling, or even how you're attempting to sell it, the odds are in your favor. If you make your presentation to enough people, you'll find a buyer. The problem with most people seems to be in making contact - getting their sales presentation seen by, read by, or heard by enough people. But this really shouldn't be a problem, as we'll explain later. There is a problem of impatience, but this too can be harnessed to work in the salesperson's favor.

We have established that we're all salespeople in one way or another. So whether we're attempting to move up from forklift driver to warehouse manager, waitress to a hostess, salesman to sales manager or from mail order dealer to president of the largest sales organization in the world, it's vitally important that we continue learning.

Getting up out of bed in the morning; doing what has to be done in order to sell more units of your product; keeping records, updating your materials; planning the direction of further sales efforts; and all the while increasing your own knowledge---all this very definitely requires a great deal of personal motivation, discipline, and energy. But then the rewards can be beyond your wildest dreams, for make no mistake about it, the selling profession is the highest paid occupation in the world!

To Go or Not to Go Herbal, that is the Question…

Many people nowadays are turning to “organics” and “naturals” otherwise known as herbals. The rising popularity of herbal supplements has created a new fad if not a new health lifestyle. But before you join the bandwagon, here are some things you need to know about this mean, “green” dietary supplementing machine.

What is the difference between a drug and a dietary supplement?

According to the definition set by food and drug administrations in different countries, drugs are chemicals that can prevent, prolong the life, treat other effects of a health condition, improve the quality of life, and/or cure ailments and diseases, or alter the function of any part or chemicals inside the body. These drugs have approved therapeutic claims. For example, paracetamol is a drug given to bring down the body temperature in fever. Ascorbic acid is indicated for the treatment of scurvy. Iron supplements are given to treat mild cases of anemia.

Herbal supplements are not classified as drugs but as dietary supplements. The main difference is that they do not have approved therapeutic claims unlike in the case of drugs. Moreover, dietary supplements could either contain vitamins, minerals, herbals, or amino acids, all aimed to add to or supplement the diet of an individual. They are not intended to be taken alone as a substitute to any food or medicine.

Most of the manufactured medicines we now have once came from animals and plants. Through the years, chemists isolated the life-saving or life-curing components and separated them from the harmful ones. This lead to the further drug research and drug development that lead to the production of a different variety of drugs for many ailments and conditions from synthetic sources. But still, we have semi-synthetic drugs, as well as drug that more or less approximate more natural composition. Since herbal supplements are made from a mixture of crude herbs reduced into powder or gel form, and later on packaged as tablets and capsules, there is a possibility that life-threatening or at least body chemistry-altering components are still present, thus the expression of concern from the medical community.

Is there a growing concern with the use of herbal supplements?

Yes. With the rising popularity of using and consuming anything herbal or organic is the proliferation of fake herbal supplements that threaten to endanger lives. If that’s the case, then why are herbal supplements given drug administration approvals? One way of ensuring the safety of the people is to have all candidate drugs, food, drinks, and dietary supplements registered with the proper authority. Otherwise, they would pose more risk with these things being sold in the black market for a hefty sum. We could ensure the quality and safety of herbal supplements if they get proper classification with the food and drug administration. Moreover, people may be able to file the proper complaints in the event a worsening of health condition is proven to be linked to the use of a particular herbal supplement.

Is using herbal supplements worth the risk?

Yes. It cannot be discounted that many who have tried herbal supplements experienced an improvement in their health—whether this is due to the herbals themselves or due to a placebo effect, as long as they do not worsen the condition of an individual, then using them is worth the risk. But of course, certain things must be considered before taking those herbal supplements:

Your doctor knows best.

First of all, clear your condition with your doctor. Ask him/her if taking a particular herbal supplement is safe given your health condition. People with heart, liver, or kidney trouble or malfunction, are usually not advised to take these, or at the minimum is to take these herbals in minimum amounts. All substances pass through the liver and kidney to be processed and filtered respectively. Kava, which is used to relieve people from stress, has been pulled out from the Canadian, Singaporean, and German markets because it contains substances that cause liver damage. Certain herbals such as Ephedra used for losing weight, contains chemicals with heart-inducing effects that can increase heart rate, which in turn can exhaust the heart and cause heart attacks in several documented cases by the American Medical Association.

Follow the directions for use.

Never take more herbal supplements than what is directed by the doctor or as instructed on the bottle. Each individual reacts differently to the components of herbal supplements. While it is perfectly safe for one individual to take in a supplement of primrose oil capsules, another person may be allergic to it. So, do not even think about downing one bottle of

It has no approved curative effect.

No matter how the product pamphlet or the label of the bottle sounds about how it has been found to be helpful in certain health conditions, these herbal supplements are not therapeutic. So do not substitute these for the medications prescribed by your doctor for the treatment of certain diseases, or for the maintenance of blood pressure, lowering of blood sugar and cholesterol, and fight off infections.

1. WHAT'S THE MOST PROFITABLE WAY TO USE CLASSIFIEDS...

Classifieds are best used to build your mailing list of qualified prospects. Use classified to offer a free catalog, booklet or report relative to your product line.

2. WHAT CAN YOU SELL "DIRECTLY" FROM CLASSIFIEDS...

Generally, anything and everything so long as it doesn't cost more than five dollars which is about the most people will pay in response to an offer in the classifieds. These types of ads are great for pulling inquiries such as Write for further information; Send $3, get two for the price of one; Dealers wanted, send for product info and a real money-maker's kit!

3. WHAT ARE THE BEST MONTHS OF THE YEAR TO ADVERTISE...

All twelve months of the year! Responses to your ads during some months will be slower in accumulating, but by keying your ads according to the month they appear, and a careful tabulation of your returns from each keyed ad, you will see that steady year-round advertising will continue to pull orders for you, regardless of the month it's published. I've personally received inquiries and orders from ads placed as long as 2 years previous to the date of the response!

4. ARE MAIL ORDER PUBLICATIONS GOOD ADVERTISING BUYS...

The least effective is the ad sheets. Most of the ads in these publications are "exchange ads," meaning that the publisher of ad sheet "A" runs the ads of publisher "B" without charge because publisher "B" is running the ads of publisher "A" without charge. The "claimed" circulation figures of these publications are almost always based on "wishes, hopes and wants" while the "true" circulation goes out to similar small, part-time mail order dealers. Very poor medium for investing advertising dollars because everybody receiving a copy is a "seller" and nobody is buying. When an ad sheet is received by someone not involved in mail order, it is usually given a cursory glance and then discarded as "junk mail."

Tabloid newspapers are slightly better than the ad sheets, but not by much! The important difference with the tabloids is in the "helpful information" articles they try to carry for the mail order beginner. A "fair media" for recruiting dealers or independent sales reps for mail order products, and for renting mailing lists, but still circulated amongst "sellers" with very few buyers. Besides that, the life of a mail order tab sheet is about the same as that of your daily newspaper.

With mail order magazines, it depends on the quality of the publication and its business concepts. Some mail order magazines are nothing more than expanded ad sheets, while others - such as BOOK BUSINESS MART - strive to help the opportunity seekers with on-going advice and tips he can use in the development and growth of his own wealth-building projects. Make a list of the addresses, circulation figures, reader demographics, and advertising rates. To determine the true costs of your advertising and decide which is the better buy, divide the total audited circulation figure into the cost for a one-inch ad: $10 per inch with a publication showing 10,000 circulations would be 10,000 into $10 or 10¢ per thousand. Looking at the advertising rates for Book Business Mart, you would take 42,500 into $15 for an advertising rate of less that THREE-TENTHS OF ONE CENT PER THOUSAND. Obviously, your best buy, in this case, would be Book Business Mart because of the lower cost per thousand.

Write and ask for sample copies of the magazines you have tentatively chosen to place your advertising in. Look over their advertising - be sure that they don't or won't put your ad in the "gutter" which is the inside column next to the binding. How many other mail order type ads are they carrying - you want to go with a publication that's busy, not one that has only a few ads. The more ads in the publication, the better the response the advertisers are getting, or else they wouldn't be investing their money in that publication.

To "properly" test your ad, you should let it run through at least three consecutive issues of any publication. If your responses are small, try a different publication. Then, if your responses are still small, look at your ad and think about rewriting it for greater appeal, and pulling power. In a great many instances, it's the ad and not the publication's pulling power that's at fault!

Write Attention Getting Advertisements (Part 5)

ASK FOR ACTION! DEMAND THE MONEY!

Lots of ads are beautiful, almost perfectly written, and quite convincing - yet they fail to ask for or demand action from the reader. If you want the reader to have your product, then tell him so and demand that he send his money now. Unless you enjoy entertaining your prospects with your beautiful writing skills, always demand that he complete the sale now, by taking action now - by calling a telephone number and order, or by writing his check and rushing it to the post office.

Once you have got him on the hook, land him! Don't let him get away!

Probably, one of the most common and best methods of moving the reader to act now is written in some form of the following:

All of this can be yours! You can start enjoying this new way of life immediately, simply by sending a check for $XX! Don't put it off, then later wish you had gotten in on the ground floor! Make out that check now, and "be IN on the ground floor!" Act now, and as an "early-bird" buyer, we'll include a big bonus package - absolutely free, simply for acting immediately! You win all the way! We take all the risk! If you are not satisfied, simply return the product and we will quickly refund your money! Do it now! Get that check on its way to us today, and receive the big bonus package! After next week, we won't be able to include the bonus as a part of this fantastic deal, so act now! The sooner you act, you more you win!

Offering a reward of some kind will almost always stimulate the prospect to take action. However, in mentioning the reward or bonus, be very careful that you don't end up receiving primarily, requests for the bonus with mountains of requests for refunds on the product to follow. The bonus should be mentioned only casually if you are asking for product orders, and with lots of fanfare only when you are seeking inquiries.

Too often the copywriter, in his enthusiasm to pull in a record number of responses, confuses the reader by "forgetting about the product," and devoting his entire space allotted for the "demand for action" to sending for the bonus. Any reward offered should be closely related to the product, and a bonus offered only for immediate action on the part of the potential buyer.

Specify a time limit. Tell your prospect that he must act within a certain time limit or lose out on the bonus, face probably higher prices, or even the withdrawal of your offer. This is always a good hook to get action.

Any kind of guarantee you offer always helps you produce action from the prospect. And the more liberal you can make your guarantee, the more product orders you will receive. Be sure you state the guarantee clearly and simply. Make it so easy to understand that even a child would not misinterpret what you are saying.

The action you want your prospect to take should be easy - clearly stated - and devoid of any complicated procedural steps on his part, or numerous directions for him to follow.

Picture your prospect, very comfortable in his favorite easy chair, idly flipping through a magazine while "half-watching" TV. He notices your ad, reads through it, and he is sold on your product. Now, what does he do?

Remember, he's very comfortable - you have "grabbed" his attention, sparked his interest, painted a picture of him enjoying a new kind of satisfaction, and he is ready to buy...

Anything and everything you ask or cause him to do is going to disrupt this aura of comfort and contentment. Whatever he must do had better be simple, quick and easy!

Tell him without any ifs, and's or buts, what to do - fill out the coupon, include your check for the full amount, and send it to us today! Make it as easy for him as you possibly can - simply and direct. And by all means, make sure your address is on the order form he is supposed to complete and mail into you - your name and address on the order form, as well as just above it. People sometimes fill out a coupon, tear it off, seal it in an envelope and don't know where to send it. The easier you make it for him to respond, the more responses you'll get!

There you have it, a complete short course on how to write ads that will pull more orders for you - sell more of your product for you. It's important to learn "why" ads are written as they are - to understand and use, the "master formula" in your own ad writing endeavors.

By conscientiously studying good advertising copy, and practice in writing ads of your own, now that you have the knowledge and understand what makes advertising copy work, you should be able to quickly develop your copywriting abilities to produce order-pulling ads for your own products. Even so, and once you do become proficient in writing ads for your own products, you must never stop "noticing" how ads are written, designed and put together by other people. To stop learning would be comparable to shutting off from the rest of the world.

The best ad writers are people in touch with the world in which they live. every time they see a good ad, they clip it out and save it. Regularly, they pull what makes them good, and why they work. There's no school in the country that can give you the same kind of education and expertise so necessary in the field of ad writing. You must keep yourself up-to-date, aware of, and in-the-know about the other guy - his innovations, style, changes, and the methods he is using to sell his products. On-the-job training - study and practice - that's what it takes - and if you have got that burning ambition to succeed, you can do it too!
