Is it possible to remain positive when being made redundant? Today is my last day at AT&T/DXC after 19 years and I'm about to find out.

Being positive in a difficult situation is hard but it's going to give you better results than perpetuating bad feelings.

Chronic stress causes you to be in a constant state of heightened awareness, which can create havoc in your body. You may start to experience physical symptoms such as irritability, fatigue, headaches, and insomnia. So take care of yourself even if you may not feel like it.

Try to do more things that give you happiness. Find your comfort where you can. And please do not feel guilty about taking time for yourself.

Posts to my blogs may be a little sporadic for a while as I sort myself out :-)

Red Teaming

Red teaming is the practice of rigorously challenging plans, policies, systems and assumptions by adopting an adversarial approach. A red team may be a contracted external party or an internal group that uses strategies to encourage an outsider perspective.
The goal of red teaming is to overcome cognitive errors such as groupthink and confirmation bias, which can impair the decision-making or critical thinking ability of an individual or organization.

A red team is often a group of internal IT employees used to simulate the actions of those who are malicious or adversarial. From a cybersecurity perspective, a red team's goal is to breach or compromise a company's digital security. A blue team, on the other hand, is a group of internal IT employees used to simulate the actions of individuals within a given company or organization, often a security team. If the red team poses as a group of cybercriminals, the blue team's goal is to stop them from committing a hypothetical data breach. This type of interaction is what is known as a red team-blue team simulation.

Red teaming, however, does not exclusively require the existence of a blue team. In fact, this can often be a purposeful decision to compare the active and passive systems of an agency.
Red teaming originated in the military to realistically evaluate the strength and quality of strategies by using an external perspective. Since then, red teaming has become a common cybersecurity training exercise used by organizations in the public and private sectors. Other security testing methods include ethical hacking and penetration testing, or pen testing.

These findings show that we are moving in the right direction for creating more natural and enjoyable robot hugs, but there is still some room for improvement."

The feedback that Block and her colleagues collected in their user studies helped them to perfect the robot further, ultimately leading to the fabrication of an even newer version of their system, called HuggieBot 3.0. This new robot will be presented in a new paper that is currently being peer-reviewed.

"In addition to showcasing hardware and software improvements, our new paper about HuggieBot 3.0 centers on enabling the robot to detect, classify and respond to intra-hug gestures like rubs, pats and squeezes," Block said. "Being squeezed by a hugging robot is surprisingly enjoyable!"

Load balancing is a technique used to distribute workloads uniformly across servers or other compute resources to optimize network efficiency, reliability and capacity.

Load balancing is performed by an appliance -- either physical or virtual -- that identifies in real time which server in a pool can best meet a given client request, while ensuring heavy network traffic doesn't unduly overwhelm a single server.

What are these tools?

There are 2 components: desktop VPN application, and browser extension. You can use them on their own, but for much greater protection, you should use both. It's silly not to, since it doesn't cost extra.

What does the desktop application do?

What does the browser extension do?

The browser extension provides a "Lite" VPN client, which does the same thing as the desktop one, but only in your browser. Any other applications you may be using on your computer will utilize your ISP provided IP address. This is the one I have been trialing and it works great!

Encryption parameters

Windscribe uses AES-256 cipher with SHA512 auth and a 4096-bit RSA key. It supports perfect forward secrecy.

connection modes

Connection modes allow for connecting to Windscribe servers using different ports and protocols. This exists to make sure that if a certain port is blocked, or your network operator is performing deep packet inspection in order to track down VPN usage, you can still connect. The default is "Automatic" which will pick the best mode for you. You can switch it to manual mode if you wish.

Modes available

IKEv2 - Default connection mode, usually the fastest, but can be easily blocked.

UDP - This mode uses OpenVPN protocol. UDP is usually the fastest protocol to run OpenVPN on, but can also be blocked quite easily.

TCP - Use this if UDP fails to connect. Much more resilient to bad network conditions, but could be slower.

Stealth - Encapsulates OpenVPN in a TLS tunnel via Stunnel. Only use this if all other methods fail. May be handy in China.

Wstunnel - Encapsulates OpenVPN in a WebSocket. Only use this if all other methods fail. May also be handy in China.

All in all I highly recommend Windscribe as a service, they have great support and many more tools than listed here to keep you safe from the baddies online.

Intent-based networking vs. Software defined Networking

Is this new technology called Software defined networking (SDN) being outmoded already, by this new upstart intent-based networking (IBN) ?

Although similar, where the two approaches differ is in how they are addressed at the administrator level.

Commands in the SDN world are primarily about how devices should operate. Take the following SDN command regarding virtual LAN traffic: Allow traffic between 10.35.291.48 and 10.35.291.49, but only if the traffic is tagged for VLAN 300. In this case, the SDN controller looks at all of the devices between those two servers and sets up rules to allow traffic to flow between the two, as long as it is on the right VLAN. But this interaction is classed as device-centric.

With IBN, the commands are abstracted at a higher level, taking them from being device-centric to being business-centric. Instead of issuing management commands that comprehend IP ranges, device names or types, VLANs and other networking bits, IBN commands are issued from a business perspective.

For example, an IBN command may look more like the following: Allow accounting applications to access XYZ server, but do not allow manufacturing applications to access. From there, the management application will determine the devices and routes that match the business intention and will then make the appropriate configuration changes. This second-level abstraction is the primary difference when it comes to IBN vs. SDN.

Pretty cool stuff amazing what we can use AI for :-) will be interesting to watch how this grows.
