Using a combination of the latest performance and printing technology, the new beautiful decorative surface from Stone Ambassador comes in three colours to start with, based on the popular and timeless natural stones Taj Mahal Quartzite, Calacatta Marble and Super White Dolomite. Not only is it super safe for Australia’s zero silica future, it’s also made of 89% recycled materials, representing more sustainable manufacturing.

Sienna is one of three Kaya Surface designs, with many more planned

Kaya represents a shift: a new generation of decorative surfaces that merges architectural beauty with advanced surface innovation. Developed through the fusion of NEOVENA digital print technology and VCS (Vitrified Compact Surface) engineering, Kaya captures the movement, depth and elegance of natural stone while delivering exceptional durability, sustainability and consistency.

“It is a collection created not simply to imitate stone, but to reinterpret it through innovation,” says senior marketing co-ordinator Annalyse Vamvalis.

Como is inspired by the iconic Calacatta Marble

What distinguishes Kaya within the market is the technology behind it, which is relatively new to Australia. NEOVENA digital print technology is an advanced surface manufacturing process that creates highly realistic stone designs with exceptional visual depth and clarity.

“Unlike conventional printed surfaces, Kaya’s veining feels layered and authentic, capturing the organic rhythm and movement traditionally associated with natural stone. Acute edge vein definition allows veins to transition naturally toward the edge of the slab, creating a more seamless and refined aesthetic that elevates the overall realism of the surface,” Annalyse adds.

“This attention to detail creates an architectural quality rarely seen within decorative surfaces. Every slab feels considered, elegant and expressive, bringing a new level of sophistication into kitchens, bathrooms and interior spaces.”

THE FIRST THREE DESIGNS

Sienna

Sienna

Warm, luminous and understated, Sienna draws inspiration from the timeless beauty of the Taj Mahal family. Soft layers of movement flow effortlessly across the surface, creating a sense of calm sophistication and quiet grandeur. Creamy undertones paired with delicate veining give Sienna a refined warmth that feels both contemporary and timeless.

Como

Como

Elegant yet expressive, Como belongs within the iconic Calacatta family, bringing a sense of European refinement into contemporary interiors. Striking vein movement flows across a luminous backdrop, creating contrast, depth and visual drama without overwhelming the space. The realism achieved through Kaya’s advanced digital print technology allows the veining to feel layered and organic, closely resembling the natural movement found within premium marble. Como feels architectural in every sense. Sophisticated enough for statement kitchen islands yet timeless enough to remain enduring within evolving interior styles. Its bold yet balanced aesthetic allows it to become a focal point within a space while still feeling refined and restrained.

Eclipse

Eclipse

Bold, moody and deeply architectural, Eclipse sits within the Super White family and introduces a stronger, more dramatic design language to the collection. Dynamic charcoal and grey movement create striking contrast throughout the slab, delivering depth and visual intensity that feels modern yet timeless. The advanced realism achieved through NEOVENA technology gives Eclipse remarkable authenticity, allowing the movement within the surface to feel natural and immersive rather than repetitive or flat.

THE FUTURE OF TECHNOLOGICAL AND CONSCIOUS DESIGN

Eclipse is one of the Kaya Surfaces featuring 0% crystalline silica and 89% recycled materials

Annalyse finishes: “Kaya Surfaces represent more than a decorative material. They represent a shift toward surfaces that are visually uncompromising, technologically advanced and consciously designed for the future.

“Through the fusion of NEOVENA digital print technology and VCS engineering, Kaya introduces a new standard in decorative surfaces; one where beauty, durability and sustainability exist in complete harmony.

“Elegant, enduring and architectural in its expression, Kaya is designed to shape interiors that feel timeless from every angle.”

After 16 incredible years at Moore Park, independent designer furniture and homewares store Contents International Design (an absolute favourite of mine), have shared an important update as they prepare for their next chapter.

At the end of June, they’ll be moving on from their always beautifully styled Supa Centa showroom, following the completion of their lease.

While this marks the end of an important era for the store in its long-time location, director Andrew Algar wants to reassure all customers that Contents International Design is continuing, and all existing orders, commitments, and importantly, customer service, remain completely unaffected

“Over the past 19 years, from our beginnings in the PYD Building through to Moore Park, we have been fortunate to work with so many wonderful clients, designers, families, and supporters,” he adds. “We are genuinely grateful for the loyalty, relationships, and community that have been built during this time. Moore Park has truly been our home, but not our identity, and we are excited for what comes next.”

From June/July, they’ll be establishing a new warehouse and studio space in Waterloo, conveniently located next to the new Metro station, with more details to follow in the coming weeks.

“As part of this transition, we now need to significantly reduce our floorstock holdings and, for the first time in many years, will be offering substantial reductions across a large range of showroom stock while pieces remain available.

This includes:

Floorstock pieces

Designer collections

One-off and limited pieces

Accessories and homewares

And much more.

“For those who have followed and supported us over the years, this will be a rare opportunity to purchase many of our most loved showroom pieces at exceptional value and available immediately, without the usual lead times.”

Floorstock items are sold “as is” and discounted accordingly, with many current and near-new pieces available at outstanding prices. New, custom, and ordered pieces will continue to be available as usual, with standard lead times advised at the time of purchase.

“We would love to welcome you back into the showroom over the coming weeks and personally thank you for your support over the past 16 years,” Andrew says. “This is not goodbye: simply a new chapter for Contents, and we look forward to sharing more with you soon.”

All forms of communication will remain the same, including their phone numbers, email addresses, and social channels, both now and moving forward, so don’t hesitate to get in touch with Andrew and the team.

“We recommend seeing floorstock pieces in the flesh prior to purchase should they have any cosmetic marks as all sales are final once leaving the showroom,” Andrew adds.

All sale items are on display at the Moore Park showroom.

Nathan Karpenko had been in the natural stone business since 2003 and working for one of Australia’s biggest suppliers before deciding to go out on his own (in the middle of covid no less) five years ago this month. That half-decade has flown by as Cav’Art Designer Stone has garnered the reputation he always wanted: for doing things personally, prioritising quality over quantity, investing in relationships and happy staff, and treating everyone the same; whether they have a huge budget or they’re just after an offcut for their fireplace hearth or coffee table top.

Nathan Karpenko

“I really the saw the need for something a bit more boutique and personalised. A lot of clients over the years told me I should be in business myself and making that decision was just one of those pivotal moments.” Nathan had also battled through bowel cancer and six months of chemo in 2019-to-2020, which had already made him start to reassess everything in his life.

“I’ve always loved a challenge and I’ve always treated every business I’ve worked for like it’s mine. It was a risky time though, with lockdowns having already happened in Melbourne but not yet in Sydney. I started to think about the things I really loved and was good at and leaned on the people I worked with, such as stonemasons and interior designers. Ultimately, I had to prove myself all over again as a business owner. But I really knew I’d focus on quality over quantity. In the early days, we could have bought containers of cheap stone and flogged it, but it just isn’t what we do.”

Photo: Dave Wheeler

Nathan started from a small warehouse in Bankstown (he’s since moved to a much bigger one) where he knew where every single slab of stone was. And he still does today! And that’s a lot of slabs!

He also has a reputation I can vouch for myself, as one of the nicest and most genuine people in the business.

Nathan shares the 5 key lessons he’s learned in 5 years:

Customer service is everything

Although Nathan applied for and got into a psychology degree, he ended up skipping university and going into hospitality. That said, he definitely thinks there are elements of psychology that apply to his job. “You’ve got to have empathy, you’ve got to be able to read the room.” But his 13 years in hospitality, during which he got accepted into the coveted Les Clefs d’Ors (meaning golden keys), taught him so much more. “I love people and in hospitality I dealt with all kinds. I didn’t care who was pulling up into our driveway; whether they’re very wealthy or someone in a beaten-up old car. I treat everyone exactly the same and it’s very humbling that a lot of clients talk about how good our customer service is. That’s the whole team as well as me, and it really is important to us.”

Photo: Nat Spada

Working with the right partners makes all the difference

“It takes time to build trust and encourage the right people to work with you. Recently, we’ve had some amazing projects featured in media like Vogue Living and The Local Project, and that calibre of project using our product only comes from working with all the right people along the way.” He adds: “Obviously, working with the right stonemasons is really important, but it starts with working with the right suppliers. That’s so much about trust too; you need to trust that those overseas suppliers are sending you what they show you in a photograph, for example. And the trades and the truck drivers handling the stone; they might have 100s of kilos of stone in one slab on their truck and it’s got to be in good hands. You’ve got to trust the stonemasons to seal that stone properly and only then can the interior designers and architects create what they’ve dreamt and bring it to life.”

Bigger isn’t always better

Having worked for many years for one of the country’s largest natural stone suppliers (which he also had shares in), Nathan knows the difference between working for a huge supplier and a much smaller, boutique one, like Cav’Art. He says it’s easy to become a bit detached working for a big company, but in a smaller one, he knows every slab he’s got in the warehouse and every slab that’s on its way across the ocean. The whole team are genuinely excited when new slabs arrive, and that includes his son Bailey, who started working there straight from school and deciding to have a break from starting university, and has never left. “He takes so much care and has so much knowledge, and even I learn from him,” Nathan says. “He has never taken the job for granted and he’s always worked hard. He’s a lifer now!”

Photo: Sebastian Mrugalski

Listen to the customer, rather than assuming you always know best

“We try and be ahead of trends where we can,” says Nathan. “Just because people are talking about purple and yellow for example, doesn’t mean all our clients will like it! “But if five people (and many of our clients are designers) come in in a row, asking for the same thing, then we’ll go and look for that. We can’t always get it right but we try to because we don’t want slabs having too many birthdays in the warehouse! We listen but we don’t want to be selling the same thing all the time, even if it’s easy because it’s everywhere. Taj Mahal is a great example of this; it’s been around and popular for at least 10 years. Some people don’t really care what it looks like, they’ll just go off price and what’s the cheapest. But we’ll never buy like that. We’re always looking for something extra special and a bit different.”

Nothing replaces seeing and touching the product in real life

(I have to agree after recently experiencing the Cav’Art showroom for myself. Just wow!).

Even in this online world, there’s nothing like seeing a slab of natural stone for yourself and Nathan encourages homeowners, architects and designers to visit their showroom in person. “Even a clear picture on your phone isn’t going to show the true colours. If you have a sample, it’s better, but it’s only a small part of the jigsaw puzzle. Seeing it in person, you’ll also experience the emotion. It’s incredible what Mother Nature can create and seeing the full slab up close can be a real emotional experience and often the starting point of a room for many designers and their clients.” Nathan explained if they buy the entire block of stone it can be made up of around 70 slabs and each one is different. You’ll never get to see exactly which one works best for you without going to the showroom and comparing them next to each other. “Even the team and I never tire of the wow factor when new slabs come in that we’ve been waiting months for. Recently we took delivery of some Calacatta Macchia Vecchia from Brazil we’d waited three months for. We opened the door and everyone went ‘oh my God!’ because it was even better in person.”

And they have good coffee too!

With the wrap-up of Milan’s annual design fair, Salone del Mobile, Australian paint brand Wattyl have released their annual take on the colour directions seen and how we can expect to use them in Australian homes.

The world’s largest design fair, Milan’s Salone del Mobile (21-to-26 April 2026), recognised as the international benchmark in interior design, once again gave us an inspired insight into what homes, hotels and public spaces are going to look like in the next few years.

The overall vibe was one of warmth and layered materiality – a step away from the sometimes stark minimalism of previous years – where craftsmanship and sustainability took central roles and colour palettes embraced the earthy hues of brown, ochre, terracotta, moss green and warm beige. The richer, deeper, more expressive hues of burgundy, aubergine and chocolate added a further layer of luxury and cocooning.

Unusually for Salone, many of the colour palettes on display reflected a lot of what we are already seeing in Australian interiors.

This palette direction reflects a broader movement in today’s interiors, whereby colour is used to build a warm, inviting ambience; a sanctuary offering respite from the turbulent world outside.

Materiality was a key focus at Salone, with textured, tactile and organic forms dominating, alongside sculptural shapes. The image above reveals how saturated hues, such as the burgundy of Wattyl Seductress, can be teamed with pops of pastels, as in the pink of Wattyl Tisty Tosty and the cerulean blue of Wattyl Veronica, to create a setting that is nurturing yet inviting and playful.

Warm whites and soft neutrals have a vital role in this colour palette, as can be seen below. The subtle beige of Wattyl Bleached Hemp provides a refreshing backdrop to the richness of the burgundy, rich pink and olive greens of the living space below.

And for a quieter contrast to the many warm, earthy hues, powder blue made a valuable contribution. Pair it with terracottas and rusts alongside pale timbers, chrome and textural fabrics such as velvet, boucle and raw linens.

The beauty of these warmer, earthy colour palettes is their versatility – used in kitchen, bathroom, bedroom or living space their ability to invoke a sense of quiet luxury and tranquility is unrivalled. They work just as well with the soft furnishings and textures of the bedroom or living space as they do with the stone, timber and metals of the bathroom and kitchen.

Koala have unveiled the Tamarama Modular Sofa, the Australian furniture brand’s most comfortable and design-forward range to date.

A refined yet relaxed piece that blends the ease of coastal living with elevated, contemporary design, the Tamarama marks a new chapter for Koala as they continue to evolve beyond their mattress origins into a design-forward furniture brand defined by comfort, liveability and a uniquely Australian sensibility.

A new expression of elevated coastal living

Inspired by the ease and comfort of Australian coastal life, Tamarama balances superior, sink-in comfort with an adaptable aesthetic designed to evolve with its owner’s style and space. With its soft, pillowy proportions, the range is available in a wide range of colours and configurations spanning single armchairs through to statement curved, seven-seater lounges.

Koala’s chief design officer James Whitta, who previously spent four years leading the product design team at IKEA in Sweden, says the Tamarama embodies the best of Australian design right now.

“Nowhere does relaxed yet elevated living like Australia, and our goal with the Tamarama was to wholly embody that quality. This is a range with softness, both visually and physically, but which still feels intentional and refined,” says James.

“There’s no question that the Australian design sensibility is evolving, and is uniquely desirable both here and around the world. This is a sofa not just for the beach house, but for stylish living worldwide, from city to coast.”

Koala’s most advanced comfort

Tamarama introduces Koala’s new ‘Luxe Comfort’ tier, engineered to deliver the softest, most cloud-like seating experience possible. The construction combines Koala’s proprietary HyperSoft foam for light, breathable support with a feather-like, cruelty-free alternative fill. The result is a layered comfort system that balances immediate softness with long-term structure.

“We’re obsessive about comfort – as a business, it’s in our DNA, and I think this is what makes the Tamarama so special. It not only looks beautiful but it’s been engineered to feel indulgent for years to come,” says James.

At its core, Tamarama is a fully modular system, designed to evolve with its owner. From compact one-seaters through to expansive multi-piece configurations, the range includes:

Single seat modules and armchairs

2, 3 and 4+ seater sofas

Chaise and corner configurations

Modular extensions that can be added or reconfigured over time

From TikTok trends to Pinterest boards, home inspiration is now just a scroll away and increasingly, AI is being used to turn those ideas into fully realised spaces, helping people visualise layouts, test styling and bring their dream homes to life faster than ever.

Image: Cooper & Co

The shift is already gaining traction online, with TikTok monthly searches for ‘using AI to design my room’ reaching over 145,000, while ‘AI house design’ has surpassed 273,000 monthly searches as of May 2026.

But while AI is making interior design more accessible than ever, experts warn it may also be changing the way people approach their homes, often prioritising how a space looks on screen over how it actually functions in real life.

Katherine Stanley, head of homewares at Cooperandco.com.au, says the rise of AI-led design is shifting the starting point for many homeowners.

“AI has completely changed how people design their spaces. Instead of styling a room gradually or working with what they have, people are jumping straight to a finished vision, often before they’ve fully understood how their space needs to work,” she says.

“It’s incredibly useful for exploring ideas and gaining confidence in your style, but it shouldn’t replace your own judgement. AI can’t replicate personal taste or the way someone actually lives, and the homes that feel the most considered are the ones that balance inspiration with practicality, not ones that are copied exactly from an AI- generated image.”

Katherine shares six dos and don’ts for using AI to design your spaces

1. Use AI to visualise your space, but don’t treat it as reality

“One of the biggest advantages of using AI is how quickly it can help you picture a space coming together. It’s particularly useful if you’re unsure where to start or want to test a few different layout ideas.

“But it’s important to remember that these images are often idealised. They’re designed to look polished and balanced, not necessarily to reflect how a room will actually feel to live in. Your home should reflect you, and feel inviting, not like a soulless AI-generated image.”

2. Let AI guide your colour choices, but always test them yourself

“If you’ve found a colour scheme you like, AI can be really helpful in building on that, whether it’s suggesting complementary tones or helping you identify similar paint shades. Especially as you can now upload your own inspiration pictures, it’s a great way to narrow down options. But colour is one design component that rarely translates perfectly on screen as it does in real life.

“Lighting, shadows and even the time of day can completely change how it looks, so you should always test patch samples in your own space first.”

3. Never rely on AI for measurements, always map it out physically

“Where people tend to come unstuck is with scale. A layout might look perfectly proportioned in a generated image, but that doesn’t always carry through in real life.

“Even if you’ve input dimensions, it’s still worth double-checking everything yourself. A simple trick is to use masking tape to mark out the exact shape and size of furniture on your floor, which can give you a much clearer sense of how the space will actually work.”

4. Use AI to explore styles and find alternatives, not to copy exactly

“AI is a really useful tool for exploring different styles or figuring out how to recreate a look you’ve seen, especially if you’re trying to work within a budget. You can use it to find similar pieces or compare different options quite quickly.

“But the spaces that feel the most personal are never copied exactly, they evolve over time and reflect your own taste and how you live. It’s important to put your own personal stamp on things to avoid your space becoming too generic or looking cold and uninviting.”

5. Be specific with prompts and sense-check the results

“A lot of the output you get from AI comes down to how you ask for it. The more detail you include; things like dimensions, layout constraints, or the overall feel you’re going for, the more useful the results tend to be.

“But even then, it’s important to sense-check what results it comes back with. It might look right visually, but you still need to ask whether it actually makes sense for your space and your day-to-day life.”

6. Don’t rely on AI to dictate trends, focus on what will last

“AI tends to pull from what’s popular right now, so a lot of what it generates is heavily trend-driven. That can be helpful for inspiration, but it also means you can end up designing a space that feels dated quite quickly. Trends move fast, especially online, and what looks current and trendy today might not feel right in a year’s time.

“A well-designed home should be intentional and timeless rather than reactive. That’s where a more human approach comes in, whether that’s trusting your own instincts or working with a designer who understands how to create something that will evolve with you. AI can show you what’s trending, but it can’t always tell you what will last.”

Cooper & Co. was born during a time when the walls around us started to matter a little more. As people spent more time at home, it became clear that finding furniture that felt considered and well-designed, without the heavy price tags, was not always easy. Their focus was on creating pieces that felt thoughtful, functional, and right for everyday living. Bringing Cooper & Co. online allowed them to connect more directly with customers looking for furniture that sat comfortably between affordable and considered.

In a heartfelt tribute to the resilience of mothers and mother figures, Pillow Talk have unveiled an exclusive new collection with artist Domica Hill. It features two original artworks with a curated range of homewares including cushions, quilts and dinnerware.

The collection brings together art, culture and storytelling, with each piece grounded in a shared belief that the home is more than a space – it is a place of comfort, healing and deep connection.

At the heart of the collection is Domica’s deeply personal journey with motherhood. Her artistic practice is a way of expressing and processing grief following the loss of her children Briar, Huxley and Aurora. What began as a quiet, personal outlet, has since evolved into a powerful expression of resilience through creativity. This emotional foundation gives the collection a profound resonance, particularly for Mother’s Day, a time that can hold both joy and reflection.

The artwork below speaks to the gentle journeys we take through rest, renewal and connection to the land. Flowing lines represent the paths walked by Ancestors and the rhythm of Country beneath us, always guiding, always grounding. Surrounded by native blooms and soft earth tones, the piece celebrates the beauty of slowing down and finding comfort in culture and nature. It serves as a reminder that home is not just where we live, but where it’s where stories live, where healing begins, and where we come back to ourselves.

The second artwork (below) celebrates rest, connection, and the deep connection we find in nature and with one another. It captures a serene moment on Country, where the golden sun warms the land and the cool winds bring renewal through the dancing trees. The twin palms symbolise support and strength between loved ones, while the flowing patterns reflect movement, healing, and togetherness. Grounded in tradition, this piece invites stillness and peace in everyday moments. It is a gentle reminder to slow down and connect.

Domica says: “This collection is deeply personal to me. My art has been a way of processing my own grief, while also celebrating indigenous culture and storytelling. To see these pieces become part of people’s homes, especially around Mother’s Day, is incredibly meaningful. I hope they bring a sense of comfort and encourage reflection.”

Kellie Bower, design lead at Pillow Talk, shared: “At Pillow Talk, we’re passionate about supporting Australian creatives and celebrating the stories that shape our communities. Collaborating with Domica Hill this Mother’s Day has allowed us to bring her unique artistic voice into our customers’ homes. We’re proud to champion Australian artists like Domica and to share meaningful stories through design.”

The Domica Hill x Pillow Talk collection is available in-store and online now.

Domica Hill is a proud Palawa/Pakana woman from the Northwest Coast of Tasmania, now living and creating on Gubbi Gubbi Country in the Sunshine Coast. As a contemporary Indigenous artist, Domica’s work is deeply rooted in culture, storytelling and her own personal journey of healing and connection.

Her style is vibrant and layered, often inspired by the natural world, from the flowing forms of water to the delicate beauty of native flora. Each brushstroke carries meaning, with footprints, tracks and meeting places symbolising shared journeys and lived experiences. Balancing cultural tradition with contemporary expression, her art invites reflection and connection, encouraging viewers to pause and consider their own relationship with land, community and self. For Domica, painting is not only an act of creation but also one of healing, storytelling and celebrating the unbreakable bond between people and Country.

Fresh off the plane, Steve has just returned from one of the world’s most influential gatherings of design talent. With a refined view on what beautiful yet liveable spaces look like in 2026 and beyond, he’s preparing to share his tips and tricks on how to bring it to life at home.

Steve recently wrapped a shoot that reflects his signature thoughtful curation, paired with furniture brand Castlery’s best-loved pieces plus carefully selected new arrivals. The result? A look that is instantly familiar yet fresh; spaces that are warm, layered and genuinely inviting.

“This year, the installations were particularly emotive. With everything happening in the world, the focus was on drawing people into a curated spaces with real feeling and personality, design that had something to say,” he said. “Palette wise, earthy, grounded tones are still reigning supreme – burgundy, aubergine, chocolates and neutrals, all taking centre stage.”

Held at Castlery’s showrooms in Brisbane and Sydney’s Moore Park, the intimate sessions are designed for customers who want to look at their homes differently, whether they are starting from scratch or searching for the final layer that makes a space feel complete. Part inspiration, part practical guidance, each masterclass will offer an insider’s perspective on Milan, a first look at Castlery’s new-season pieces, and Steve’s approach to creating homes that feel personal, considered and beautifully put together.

An immersive, design-led space celebrating craftsmanship, materiality and local creativity, Australian design house ABI Interiors have thrown open the doors to their highly anticipated Sydney showroom – a 600sqm design playground in the heart of Marrickville’s creative precinct. More than just a showroom, it’s an immersive destination where inspiration lives in every surface, texture and detail.

Designed to celebrate materiality, craftsmanship and local talent, including the likes of Tom Fereday amongst other creatives, the space invites visitors to slow down, connect with design on a sensory level, and experience ABI’s ethos of elevated everyday living.

“This is a space to explore, create and dream,” says Luli Farrell, co-founder at ABI Interiors. “We wanted the energy of Marrickville’s creative community to flow through every detail, and for people to feel instantly at home. The warmth, the tactility, the bold design moments; it’s a reflection of who we are as a brand.”
