Welcome to Interlend 2009!

This year our theme is Keeping It Simple: support, development, practicalities. The venue is booked and the conference will take place at the Lancaster House Hotel from 29th June to 1st July 2009.

The conference team are currently busy finalising the booking form and inviting speakers and we plan to open bookings in the next few days. The first draft programme is now available on the wiki and we will update the wiki with further details about the programme content and speakers as it becomes available.

Each week we will post an update here on the news blog with information about the conference and any other FIL events that may be happening in the regions. Please feel free to leave comments and ask questions!

You can choose to receive this news feed via email or RSS. Please see the links on the right to subscribe to either version of the feed and let us know if you have any difficulties receiving the information. Major updates will also be posted on the FIL mailing list (www.jiscmail.ac.uk/fil)

We look forward to seeing you at Interlend 2009!

Sarah

Just over 2 weeks to go until Interlend 2008! You should be getting an email from Tracey sometime soon (or you may have already had one) asking you to choose from our seminar options. We have 2 seminar sessions on Tuesday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon and each session has 3 options.

In the morning we have Graham Titley’s interactive workshop on working out the real cost of an ILL, Liz Hart and Graham Muncy from IAML will be addressing some of the essential questions about music interlending and Stephanie Taylor is looking at some of the practicalites of interlending and technology.

In the afternoon there will be another opportunity to attend Stephanie’s session or you can catch Karen Blakeman looking in more detail at using Web 2.0 applications in library and information services or we have Antony Brewerton exploring innovative approaches to marketing a library service.

Sorry if we’ve made it difficult for you to choose! If you would like more information have a look at the conference programme on the wiki for full details. We’ve added some extra time after lunch for you to meet our speakers and ask them questions and most of our speakers will be around for the whole conference so there should be plenty of opportunities for you to have a chat with them. In addition we hope to make as many presentations as possible available on the website after the conference so hopefully whatever choice you make you won’t miss out!

Look forward to seeing you all in a couple of weeks!!

We’ve had a great response to the Interlend wiki – over 100 of you have signed up for notifications and that’s far more than we ever expected when we set up the experiment. We will be asking for feedback about the wiki at the conference and via the mailing list but please get in touch via the comments or email us if you have any thoughts.

Some people have been in touch to ask about notifications, especially as some of the emails are a little strange due to our constant tweaking of the programme! If you would prefer not to receive the email notifications you can switch them off by logging out of the wiki and then unchecking the notification box when you log back in. Alternatively drop us an email and we can switch off the notifications for you. The main updates will continue to be posted here so feel free to subscribe to the blog if you prefer. Blogs, wikis and RSS still a mystery – Karen Blakeman and Stephanie Taylor will be tackling the topic of web 2.0 at the conference so why not come along! There are still a few places left if you get your booking form in asap…

Sarah

Update – I’ve also added an option to subscribe to this blog by email. The link is on the right hand side of this blog under Subscribe.
