Our (Uruguay) who deserve to be champions

2011-07-22T09:05:00.000-07:00

Copa America-Uruguay is the first champion in football affairs in Latin America, long before Brazil and Argentina to take over their dominance on the gridiron Latin America.
Won the Copa America 2011, for the people of Uruguay, football is like returning to the bosom of their glorious history in the past.

They won the Copa America's first and second consecutive-to-back (1916-1917) and - together with Argentina - a champion ever in the history of the Copa America title 14 times. Uruguay also won Olympic gold in 1924 and 1928, then won the World Cup in 1930 and captured it again in 1950 in a way that will never be forgotten in the history of Brazil: on Maracana Stadium, beating the hosts supported more than 200 thousand people.

But there is also the irony: Uruguay football feels like history is so ancient and old. When was the last Uruguay Olympic champion? 1928. When did Uruguay become World Champion? 1950. What and when the highest achievements of Uruguay in the World Cup after 1950? Semifinalists in the 1970 World Cup. When was the last time Uruguay won the Copa America? 1995.

Amazingly, all the achievements accomplishments achieved by the country's total population is only about 3 million. Of the seven nations have ever won the World Cup, Uruguay is the country with the smallest population.

Indeed, last year they also reached the World Cup semi-finals in South Africa. However, the achievement of waiting was very long, especially for a country that claims that (as said Eduardo Galeano with allegorical) every baby is born, shouting: "Gooooool ...."

Like most kids in Uruguay, Galeano also obsessed with a footballer. Unfortunately obsession was not met. He was not talented enough, and swerved to his career of authorship. But football was never far from his mind. That's why he wrote the book El Futbol A Sol Y Sombra or Football In Sun and Shadow, a long narrative about soccer written with a lyrical style.

The book is a personal reflection of the Galeno football. Galeno, born in 1940, summarizes the historical development of football in a poetic sentence. He said, "History of football is like a sad journey from beauty to duty."

The book is so evidence of how Galeano, Uruguay as another man who failed to become a football player, will never forget and leave the football. With that book, Galeano said, "I'm trying to do something with the hands of what used to be I can not do with feet."

The Englishman, the clubs are now dominated the magnitude of foreign investors, will probably look cynical view of this Galeano. Galeano, in certain cases, such as a melancholic who were celebrating the nostalgia of the past that had long moved away.

That is why his book on football entitled El Futbol A Sol Y Sombra or Football In Sun and Shadow. Football under the rays of the sun is football a joyful, full of simple but full of excitement, which can be found on the streets, in the field, also in the steppes. But football is a simple and joyful it is also overshadowed by a football that has been commodified, becomes a commodity, which makes football is only a mine of money - unfortunately, exploited by the owners of capital who just want the trophy as soon as possible.

But that's the older generation's view of the Uruguayan soccer. Uals who experienced firsthand how the whole country erupted in joy and happiness are unbearable when the national team of Uruguay defeated Brazil in the Maracana Stadium in the 1950 World Cup final. For people age Uruguay Galeano, 1950 was periode that will never be forgotten, will always be remembered and relived. 1950, such as the (World Cup) 1966 for the British people, is a time where everyone can feel so proud and happy to be the people of Uruguay.

If Galeano says that "the history of football is like a sad journey from beauty to duty", then the sentence for the Uruguay could be a "history of Uruguayan football is like a sad journey of triumph into silence".
Until now, every time the national team to play Uruguay in Montevideo will always be a giant banner that read "1950" laid out in the stands. That statement of the collective yearning of the people of Uruguay Uruguay football glory.

Uruguay can understandable if people feel the excitement and extraordinary relief when Diego Forlan, et al., Can be advanced to the semifinals of World Cup 2010. "There are only 3 million people in Uruguay and we've waited a long moment like this," said Oscar Tabarez, Uruguay coach, at that time.

Of melancholia 1950 can only be perfectly fulfilled if Uruguay was able to carry home the World Cup trophy back. After all, it must be admitted, the degree of the Copa America was not worth the World Cup.
However, it could win the Copa America title after fasting for 16 years and at the same time recorded history as the champion of all champions throughout the history of the Copa America, certainly a very worthy achievement is celebrated. Moreover trophy to the 15th (if managed to beat Paraguay in the final) is achieved in Argentina (their strongest rivals in the Copa America) with previously also beat Argentina in the quarter-finals. A complete historical record!

To some extent this will affirm the statement Tim Vickery, British journalist specializing in Latin America, about Uruguay. Tim Vickery said, "Other countries have history and the history of Uruguay is football."

Alonso fastest

2011-07-22T08:30:00.000-07:00

Nurburgring - In the exercise held at the Nurburgring circuit on Friday (22/07/2011), Alonso managed to record time of 1 minute 31 seconds after devouring 30 laps.

The first free practice German GP session was completed held.
. In a session that could cloud this covered Scuderia Ferrari drivers, Fernando Alonso, appearing as the fastest.

Shown as the second fastest driver is a driver Red Bull Racing, Mark Webber, who clocked 0.323 seconds slower. Webber Sebastian Vettel beat the achievement of time sitting in third position, both at loggerheads 0.051 seconds.

Who is most to bring the most unlucky ..?????

2011-07-17T06:53:00.000-07:00

Copa America - Argentina's defeat of Uruguay in the quarterfinals round of the Copa America 2011 can be associated with these three big names: Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez and Javier Zanetti. Who is the most unlucky?

Messi, for not giving any major trophies for his country, then all his greatness at club level probably will continue to be harassed. Messi could have become an icon also for Argentina, just as he was big and shiny with Barcelona.

In the uniform Albiceleste, the attacker left-handed 25-year-new one-time offering the highest degree, namely the 2008 Olympic gold medal - but it's not at senior level.

All types of trophies the club has he acquired with the Spanish giants, many individual awards he received was mainly because the game was fantastic with the Los Cules. Predicate highest course in the world's best players the past two years.

He appeared in two World Cups (2006, 2010), but Argentina has always foundered in the last eight. In the last edition in South Africa he did not even score a goal. Similarly, in the Copa America this year. In the first Copa followed in 2007, he created two goals but his team lost the final of the enemy.

But Messi is still plenty of time and opportunity because of his age is still relatively young. Diego Maradona was the being who will always be a benchmark for the people of Argentina, in fact just a one time give a big trophy for Argentina, the 1986 World Cup, when he was 25 years. For every "failure" and the poor performances Tango Messi in the squad, people always say "Barcelona instead of Argentina." Messi often reminded that, too. However, practically, as long as Messi played unbelievable in the club level, then people will always give Argentina a similar burden.

"Lionel's great play. I always liked the way he plays. In the second half he was dropped, but all the other players too," said coach Sergio Batista is a little entertained best player.

Another story is about Carlos Tevez. Problem severity, nor was there a doubt that 27-year-old figure. But he was often troubled by problems at his club, particularly Manchester City, after two seasons he was getting a lot of the common good of Manchester United.

Many people consider a half-hearted Tevez playing for City, because the club has only just rich, but not too competitive at the elite level. New in the last season of The Citizens managed to penetrate the top four in the Premiership, and will first appear in the Champions League this season.

However, the chance to play again in Europe does not necessarily reduce the desire to move Tevez. Several clubs later rumored to be ready to contain it, ranging from Inter Milan, Juventus, Real Madrid, and lastly his old club, Corinthians.

At the moment preoccupied with the issue of transfer of Tevez, he is getting harsh reality in the Copa. Apart from not scoring goals, and not always a starter, he instead became the "cause" the defeat of Argentina from Uruguay.

Entered the field in the closing minutes of the second half, including five Tevez Batista's executioners are chosen to carry out on penalties after the score 1-1 for 120 minutes. The result, predictable Tevez hard shot by keeper Fernando Muslera direction, and execution was not a goal. From a total of 10 executioners, only he did not succeed, and Argentina was defeated.

The story's ironic is Javier Zanetti. Has defended his country since 17 years ago, and still survive until now, which makes it holds the record for most caps in the history of the Argentine national team, Inter Milan defender had never tasted a cup with Albiceleste.

Il Trattore, the versatile player who can play as full back or winger, at left and right, seem to not have another chance to save an international trophy given on 10 August will turn 38 years old.
If nothing is impossible in football, Zanetti may still be hoping to once again play in big tournaments, and the closest is the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and as he approached the age of 41.

Away with the runner-up status of force against Uruguay with Argentina, who also stepped into the last eight in the order of two Group A. It's become a highly anticipated match since the status of the two countries as the most successful teams in the Copa America. "Messi did not move"

2011-07-10T08:59:00.000-07:00

Buenos Aires - Argentina is currently on the horns of endangered or failed to qualify from the group phase of Copa America. Is Lionel Messi could be the 'Messiah' for his country in the ultimate game?

Obviously these conditions unpleasant for Argentina because they have to undergo life and death against Costa Rica on Tuesday (12/07/2011). Although not score points, but Ricardo La Volpe care team still had a chance to escape as best as long as it beat third-ranked Argentina.

Of the two games that have been passed, Argentina with the status of the hosts also appear under the favorites to win their performance. They are only capable of two draw against Bolivia and Colombia.
So Argentina was now in third position with two points. While Bolivia and Colombia in tandem leads the standings with four points each, but Bolivia on goal difference. Costa Rica in a position protruding with zero points.

On the one hand, Argentina certainly do not want to lose face in front of supporters. Do not let the country become a mecca of world football was knocked out early.

Inevitably leads to criticism of the 24-year football player and even fans Abiceleste had denounced poor performances in the match Messi contra Colombia.

Then the heaviest burden may be fixed (again) on the shoulders of Messi, who has not likewise shows like in Barcelona maximum capability. Imagine the two matches that passed, the world's best player two times it was only made two shots.

However Messi feels fine and he is optimistic the country could take to qualify for the quarterfinals.

"I feel fine and look forward to the game. I'm sure if the team will qualify. We'll go," said Messi are like reported by ESPN Star.

"Leo is very upset about this (fans scorn). He does not understand how this could happen. This is the first time they taunted," said Messi's father, Jorge.

Manchester United and Real Madrid Barca Drag '

2011-07-05T08:16:00.000-07:00

Manchester - Gary Neville predict the dominance of Barcelona in the arena of European football will be over soon. According to him, Barca will be displaced by clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid.

It can not be denied, so Barca's most respected clubs in Europe today. They are very dominant in the Blue Continent to steal three Champions League trophy in six years.

However, Neville believes the condition is no longer going to change soon. Former Manchester United defender is sure other teams will soon be able to catch up from Azulgrana.
Neville pointed out the condition about 12 years ago. At that time, Manchester United beat Juventus in the Champions League trip to win the title 1999. In fact, the 'Red Devils' three defeats in four previous meetings in the last two years.

"You climb the 'mountain' and it's difficult. But, I think we will move forward and we will get there (level Barcelona)," he added.

"We have young players who try to reach their level (Juventus) and finally we got there," said Neville in Sportinglife.

"Next season will be more severe for them (Barcelona) because teams like United and others will learn. All the things there are cycles," added Neville.

"I think a club like Manchester United and Real Madrid will pass through Barcelona in the next two years," believes the former England defender is.

David Beckham was awarded the Golden Foot 2011

2011-07-05T07:55:00.000-07:00

For all the celebrity and fortune he enjoys, David Beckham epitomises football's greatest values and is why he deserves to be awarded the Golden Foot for 2011.

This year's nominees for the career achievement trophy have been released, with some of the game's modern day greats among the names under consideration:

David Beckham (LA Galaxy, England), Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus, Italy), Iker Casillas (Real Madrid, Spain), Didier Drogba (Chelsea, Ivory Coast), Samuel Eto'o (Inter Milan, Cameroon), Ryan Giggs (Manchester United, Wales), Carles Puyol (Barcelona, Spain), Raúl González Blanco (Real Madrid, Spain), Xavi Hernández (Barcelona, Spain), Javier Zanetti (Inter Milan, Argentina).

All would be commendable winners and deserve their immortality in the 'Champions Promenade' on Monaco's 'Walk of Fame'. But at this time, and at this stage in his career, Beckham stands out as the most worthy.
Instead, Beckham has built his career on his famous free-kick taking, his wonderful range of passing and his gut-busting stamina - all honed hour-after-hour, day-after-day on the training pitches of Manchester United's Carrington complex.

The Los Angeles Galaxy star has reached the very pinnacle of his sport not through natural gifts, but from sheer hard work and endeavour.

His career has been a triumph of determination over adversity.

At United he was part of the iconic Treble team - but for me, his greatest triumph was the Liga title won in his final season at Real Madrid. Shunned by Fabio Capello, told to train with the kids at the Castilla, Beckham never dropped his head or threw a strop.

The highs and lows with England are well documented. His dismissal against Argentina in France 98 made Beckham a national pariah, but he never hid upon his return to Manchester United the following season. Indeed, he put to bed that infamous episode with Diego Simeone by dumping Argentina out of the World Cup four years later - and his free-kick against Greece to reach the Far East tournament is now the stuff of legend. Later dumped by Steve McClaren, only to be recalled, Beckham would have played in last year's World Cup if not for injury.

Instead, he kept his professionalism. He kept fighting. And not only - through sheer force of will - broke back into the Real first team, but inspired his teammates to an amazing championship victory.

Again, from being a pariah - through no deliberate act of his own - Beckham was a hero and such was the emotion he generated from Real fans, the board made every attempt to buy him back from LA Galaxy in 2007.

Even his time at AC Milan was typical Beckham. The cynics in the Italian press met the announcement that Beckham was moving to Milan mockingly, we had whispers from inside the squad also questioning the deal. But within days of joining his new teammates, he had wowed the medical staff with his fitness and won over the players with his ability.

Like with Real, such was Beckham's impact, Milan attempted to buy him from LA Galaxy. The Americans refused to do business, but Milan still moved heaven and earth to make sure he returned for a similar spell the following season.

That's Beckham. In terms of his football, nothing has ever been handed to him. Even going right back to 1993 and England's U21 European Championship victory, Beckham was overlooked for the likes of Gary Neville, Sol Campbell, Nicky Butt and Robbie Fowler.

Instead of sulking, he hit the training pitch, worked harder than ever before - and it's that value of achievement through sheer hard work and dedication which makes football the greatest sport in the world - and why David Beckham deserves to be the 2011 Golden Foot winner.

Andrew Slevison says:
"I think Beckham is the best candidate this year. Yes, he maybe playing at the lowest level of all the nominees but what he has done for the sport in England, Spain and the USA, let alone around the world is phenomenal. His name is the most recognised in world sport and he continues to defy his 36 years with consistent performances for the Galaxy. Sure, you have some big names in this list, including Beckham's old teammate Ryan Giggs, who may have been a runaway winner a few months back if it wasn't for recent events, but I feel that the former England captain provides the best balance for being a superstar of the world game and remaining humble despite all of his exploits. It would be great to see Beckham win this award and I believe he should be added to the already star-studded list of Totti, Ronaldinho, Baggio, Del Piero and Robert Carlos among others."

Ian Ferris says:
"Chelsea and Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba is deserving of the Golden Foot 2011 career award for being more than just a footballer. The 33 year old has broken records throughout his career. His physical strength, power in the air and ability to intimidate opponents has seen him become his countries all time top scorer and is placed sixth in Chelsea’s goalscoring pantheon. Drogba was voted African Footballer of the Year in 2006 and twice been awarded the Golden Boot. The striker is still remembered with affection, which is reciprocated, at the club where he made his name, Marseille. But it his off-field actions which make the Ivorian stand out from the other candidates. After the Ivory Coast qualified for the 2006 World Cup Drogba played his part in bringing to an end five years of civil war in his homeland and has already suggested that once retired his time will be spent rebuilding his torn country. Even his passion, which at times has led to clashes with authority both on and off the pitch, is now being channelled towards using his footballing celebrity for good."
