You can find out more about the SIG on Indigenous Matters at
http://www.ifla.org/en/indigenous-matters.

I am currently coordinating a special publication for IFLA. This document, which will be available as a free online publication, will be titled, "Library Services to Indigenous Populations: Protocols and Case Studies."
The case studies featured will introduce some exemplary services offered by libraries serving indigenous peoples in various areas of the world.

I would be delighted if you would like to contribute a brief description of one or more examples of such services. You are free, also, to share this invitation with others. I am attaching a form that people might use to supply information. I am looking for brief (100-500 words) descriptions of library services plus some additional details. I would like to share some of the case studies with delegates attending the IFLA World Library and Information Congress that takes place in Puerto Rico, 12-19 August 2011. It would be great to have case example contribution in about a month or by 10 August 2011. Since the publication is offered free, we are not receiving royalties for the work but are excited by the prospect of sharing news of noteworthy work with the international library community.

Just let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers,
Maybe you recently joined ALA. Chances are, after all that scraping, you’re thirsty. Chances are, you’ve heard about the exclusive parties that take place after the conference sessions close. Chances are, broke librarians rarely make it on the A-list.

That’s about to change.

One of the most popular ‘after hours’ events is the International Librarians Reception. The International Papers Program provides librarians with an opportunity to exchange information about library services and collections throughout the world. The program also serves to stimulate the interest of U.S. librarians in international library matters. Round Table programs and receptions have been highlights of the association’s annual meetings. ALA membership at large has benefited from contact at conferences with colleagues from every corner of the world. Many international librarians’ first encounter with American library practice has been through the work of IRRT. Over the sixty years of its existence IRRT has fostered opportunities for U.S. librarians to visit libraries in other countries and to work overseas in exchange and other programs. It has facilitated the donation of books to needy institutions abroad and provided professional expertise to libraries on every continent. To maintain and expand these important activities resources from an ongoing fund are essential.
Tribute to the 60th Anniversary of IRRT (Word file)
Endowment Campaign Donations2009 marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the American Library Association's International Relations Round Table (IRRT). To celebrate the richness of relationships developed over the years between U.S. librarians and their colleagues abroad, and to provide a foundation for continued contribution by the Round Table to ALA's important role in international librarianship, the IRRT leadership is embarking on a Sixty campaign to create an IRRT endowment. In keeping with the campaign theme, we suggest a donation of $60, $600, or whatever amount you feel would be appropriate.
Make your tax deductible donation in either of the following ways:
Credit card: Please visit the ALA Development Office page (click on GIVEALA logo)
Send a contribution by mail, using the printable mail-in form (PDF). Please forward this email to any of your students or colleagues who you think would be interested in this opportunity to study abroad for three weeks in Europe.

Study in London and Paris this summer!

An exciting opportunity to earn six graduate LIS credits while living in central London and Paris is being offered by the Florida State University College of Information. Two multimedia production courses, taught from June 25 – July 16, 2009 at the FSU London Centre and in Paris will use these dynamic cities and the surrounding areas as a backdrop for creating projects such as podcasts, websites, short films, and digital photography. No prior experience with these media is required. All 4-day per week classes will be field trip based.

Other pertinent information:

· The two courses being offered are: LIS 5313: Design and Production of Media Resources and LIS 5362: Design and Production of Network Multimedia. Participants must take both courses and they will be focused on application of media to libraries and teaching and learning. Students will have the opportunity to apply course material to their current work situation if desired.

· The FSU London Centre is housed in a 17th century building that FSU owns in the heart of 'literary London' and very close to the shopping district and to the theater district. It is less that one block from the British Museum. Students live there or in nearby apartments. Housing in Paris will be in a centrally located hotel.

· London provides superb cultural exposure. The variety of arts, theatre, performances, and other cultural venues available in London is stunning, and almost all of them provide student rates. Often the school has inexpensive play tickets available.
