Various scholars have shed their light on explaining this phenomenon, mainly focusing on socio-structural and party system explanations. Only very few of them have considered explanations based on political communication theory. It is thus largely unknown what the role of media and communication is vis-à-vis electoral volatility.This project therefore tests the impact of media and communication on electoral volatility in different elections using a unique combination of panel surveys, media content analyses, and an experiment. The novelty lies not only in the fact that this project goes beyond current explanations of electoral volatility, incorporating the media in an extensive way. The main contribution is that this project studies the effect of media content within different contexts (information-rich versus information-poor) and zooms in on the underlying process causing these effects.The candidate is expected to do research and publish on the basis of the research, culminating in a PhD dissertation.

Eligibility: If you are an A-Level candidate, you should offer at least 11 academic units. Students offering 10 academic units and with outstanding track records may be considered. All candidates are given equal consideration regardless of the subjects they have taken. The scholarship is also open to Polytechnic students and students who are taking the International Baccalaureate. Students must have obtained at least 36 points from the IB program to be considered.
