However, I was wondering if it is legal to fill in surveys online and get paid for that? Also, if yes, up to how much can one make? Thank you very much for your answer.
Read the main topic related to this post

Student Visa for American student going to England

by Jessica29 (Posted Sat, 05 Jul 2008 03:49:08 +0000)
Hi, I am hoping someone here can help me out.

I am an American student who will be attending Cambridge next year (for only one year) to get a Certificate of Advanced Study in Mathematics (Part III of the Mathematical Tripos). I live in Santa Barbara right now, so I would be going to the British Consulate in the Los Angeles area (I assume its the closest).

I am looking into how to apply for a student visa, and it is all rather confusing. I have been browsing the British Consulate's website, but I can't find any information on how long the process will take and certain other questions. They have a phone number to call but it charges $3 a minute and who knows how long I would be on hold, so I thought I would try here first.

If anyone could give me an overview of the process, that would be wonderful. From the website I have gathered that you apply online first, and then make an appointment to go in and get fingerprinted, but they also mention mailing in your passport and I am unclear when that happens or how long it takes, or can you just take it with you when you go? I have a trip to France planned for the first two weeks of August, and I need to make sure I have my passport then of course, but I plan to leave for the UK around Sept 15th or so, and so I need to have my visa taken care of by then.

I have not started the visa application yet because first I need to finish some other paperwork with Cambridge so that I can be "unconditionally" accepted. I am not sure how long it will be until I have that taken care of, but it will probably be a couple weeks at least.

Do American students need to get tested for TB? Do they ask about any other vaccine/immunization records?

I noticed that there are some third party companies (I am in the Los Angeles area) that say they do UK visas, does anyone have experience using any of those? I have emailed a couple of them with inquiries but I haven't heard back yet.

If there is any other information that you think I should know I would very much appreciate it. Thanks!
Read the main topic related to this post

URGENT HELP NEEDED

by lacrymozy (Posted Sun, 29 Jun 2008 03:28:50 +0000)
Hi, I need help

I've been out of status for about four months now. I left my previous school in georgia for depression after being assaulted by another student at school. I went to connecticut for two-three weeks with my sister who lives here. I left my school on february 1st and when I got back on february 22nd I learnt that I had been put out of status since february 15th.
I decided to leave the school for good after that and come to connecticut.
Now I know I can apply for reinstatement or try to reenter the US on a new visa.
But I wonder which solution is the less risky, and what are my chances to be reinstate?
I have been accepted in a college here in connecticut but I can only apply for reinstatement in august and that would be more than five months!!! My sister told me to apply to an english school ASAP for reinstatement...?

Please, if anyone has ever been in this situation could you help me?
I heard the immigration could take a 6 or even 8 months to answer?!
Read the main topic related to this post

I was wondering if I will be able to open a Canadian bank account at that time (If I have a study visa).
Help me choose 1 out of these 4 universities.

by Arnold Layne (Posted Fri, 27 Jun 2008 05:37:19 +0000)
The cost of living isn't an issue. I'm particularly looking our for a university with an excellent Placement Record. Does any one of the four above has a clear distinctive advantage over the others in terms of Placement Records. I've gone through the rankings, they are a bit misleading I believe <* src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="" />, hence, a second opinion.

From what I've heard, City University has an excellent overall placement record whereas Glamorgan is reknowned for its placements in computer science. Is that true? Then in that case, am I right to shortlist City and Glamorgan out of the four?
Read the main topic related to this post

F-2 to F-1

by Bobby Chung (Posted Wed, 25 Jun 2008 05:50:35 +0000)
You can apply for F-1 visa at the U.S. Embassy in Germany, if you maintain valid visa status in Germany.

Normally, the consular officer should not cancel your other visa, if your F-1 visa application is denied. But, the officer has discretion to cancel other U.S. visas in your passport depending on the basis for the F-1 visa denial.
Read the main topic related to this post

HELP PLEASE - Can F1 visa renewed when on OPT

by Bobby Chung (Posted Wed, 25 Jun 2008 05:43:42 +0000)
You may travel abroad while on OPT if you have a valid F-1 visa stamp, I-20 endorsed for travel, EAD card, valid passport and employer letter.

If your F-1 visa has expired, you may apply for renewal of your visa at the U.S. Embassy in your country. Keep in mind that you are not guaranteed to receive a new F-1 visa. The decision to renew is the consular officer's discretion.
Read the main topic related to this post

by Bobby Chung (Posted Wed, 25 Jun 2008 04:51:39 +0000)
Unfortunately, the law does not permit changing status from M-1 to F-1 student in the U.S. To study in F-1 status, you need to apply for an F-1 visa at a U.S. Embassy abroad.
Read the main topic related to this post
