OPT expiring

by jumps95 (Posted Mon, 13 Jul 2009 11:12:39 +0000)
Hi,

I have an OPT that is expiring in august 2009. I have a feeling I chose the wrong major. I can't find any enjoyment from the job opportunities. Therefore I plan to go back to school to study a subject still related to kinesiology but in a new profession.

I would like to eventually apply for an H-1B visa. If I were to earn an associate's degree with my new career (let's say radiologic tech), would I still be eligible for an H-1B visa? I do have a bachelor's in kinesiology (sport psychology emphasis) which is somewhat related to health care.

Thanks
Read the main topic related to this post

You should approach the Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). for prior authorization.
Read the main topic related to this post

15 Year old brother attending private US high School

by Mehdia (Posted Sun, 12 Jul 2009 08:32:09 +0000)
Hi,

I have 2 questions.

I'm interested in having my 15 year old brother study at a private US high school for better standard of education. He is a bright kid. My husband and I are both U.S citizens and live in Ohio. We're looking into private schools here accepting international students. The one school that we're specially interested in offers boarding.

My first question is: In the event that he gets admitted into this school, what would increase his chances for getting an F1 visa? Showing that he will be attending a private high school but staying with his sister who is US citizen or showing that he will be attending a private high school and using their boarding facilities.

My other question is: Is it possible for him to have his current B2 visa transferred into an F1 without him having to go back to his home country.

My parents and the rest of my siblings all live with my brother abroad.

I will appreciate any and all help as I'm very confused these days....for me he's still my baby brother and I want the best for him without taking any unnecesary risks that may hurt his future. Thanks so much in advance.
Read the main topic related to this post

I intend to become a Physican Scientist

by bioprodigy (Posted Sun, 12 Jul 2009 02:25:44 +0000)
Hello,
I am intending on applying to the Med School in the US. Here are my strengths but am still not sure whether i am competitive compared to the prospective applicants who are either US citizens or permanent residents.

Strengths:
1) I have done my masters in Life Science from US (Behavioral Neurosciences), with a first author publication of my research work in one of the high impact journals. GPA was 3.62.
2) I am currently doing my PhD in Biomedical Research in a Med School, trying to understand the mechanism underlying epliepsy (Neurosciences). However, my goal is to venture into neurosurgery and become a Physician Scientist. Current GPA = 3.5
3) I had taken my MCAT two years back and my scores were Phy: 9, Bio9,Ver:6 and writing :Q. I am just not able to get beyond 6 in verbal because English is not my first language.
4) I have presented my research work in a couple of International meetings both in the US and outside.
5)I am the Vice President of the Council for Biomedical Graduate Students.
Do you think i stand any chance of entering Medical School with these credentials, considering that i am an international student. Everybody i have spoken have provided me with a very grim picture bcoz i am a non-resident alien trying to make a career medicine.

I will be applying for my permanent residentship in the US but it might take a while before that happens.
Please guide me. I am doing whatever i can do make my application as strong as possible.

Major Weakness: I am an international student.
Do you think American Medical Schools will entertain applicantions from international students like me who can demonstrate intellectual curosity and the burning desire to help the humanity by being a Physician Scientist.
Read the main topic related to this post

UK GPA Conversion! Please Help!

by craigangus110686 (Posted Sun, 12 Jul 2009 10:42:13 +0000)
Hey guys, hoping someone could give me some advice!

I really want to do a MBA in the States, hoping to apply in 2010 to start in 2011, but I am a bit confused with GPA.

I have converted me unit scores to GPA (using A=4, B=3 etc etc) and my average GPA for all 4 years of my graduate degree comes out at 2.8, however, I kinda struggled to find my feet in the first two years and had average GPAs of around 2.4.

However, I did buckle down and worked very hard in my third and 4th year, with a 3.0 in 3rd and 3.8 in 4th year. This meant that I actually achieved a 1st Class Honours Degree in the end.

So my question is, what will the Business Schools in the States consider more important, my average GPA (which is poor) or my graduating degree (1st class)?

I would love to hear your feedback and thoughts.

Thanks,
Craig

***
I've just seen this website http://www.wes.org/gradeconversionguide/index.asp which converts scores to GPA, but I still dont understand if my overall graduating grade is more important than my individual module grades.

Thanks again
Read the main topic related to this post

International Student Financial Statement

by Alannah (Posted Fri, 10 Jul 2009 01:49:18 +0000)
Hi Crawley! My university sent me the ISFS which stated:

'Each financial institution where any portion of these funds is on deposit must sign and stamp/seal this form in the section corresponding to the amount pledged. If your financial institution is not willing to sign and stamp/seal this form, a separate bank statement or verification of funds in English on official bank letterhead must be provided. The amount must be clearly written in US dollars or converted to US dollars using an official and current conversion rate'

I had the bank sign and stamp the form, I didn't need an accompanying bank letter did I? Also I am having a dilemma (surprise surprise ): I sent out the ISFS so I'm now waiting for my I-20 but I am not using Uni housing and need to pay a deposit on a rental, Now that i've proved to my Uni that I have the funds am I able to use funds from that account for my deposit? I am not sure if I need the funds still in my account for my visa interview?

Thanks
Read the main topic related to this post

by captainsensible (Posted Thu, 09 Jul 2009 07:25:25 +0000)
I finished university in England in July 2008, and took some time out to earn some money and go travelling. I fell in love with Brisbane in February, and since I've been back home I've decided I want to go back there to study accounting, and hopefully work for a firm at the same time so I can live out there too.
I got a 2:2 at uni and would like to gain a professional qualification to enhance my career. Should I start by applying to companies in Australia and ask whether they would sponsor me to do the further education? Or should I apply to an Australian university (Would this be expensive as an international student?) and then work on finding employment once I start to study?
Is it possible to learn accounting as an evening class or something too?
I'm still in the process of researching my options, and would appreciate any help.
Thank you!
Read the main topic related to this post

I am back in Australia and have my original uk bank statement to demonstrate my funds. When i went for my biometrics, one of their staff told me that i need the bank statement to be stamped by the bank. Obviously I can't now as I have left the UK, however, it is an orignial statement i have. I thought you only needed it stamped by the bank if it was an electronic statement? Does anyone know?

thanks alot
Rob
Read the main topic related to this post

Steps and Guidance to Attending High School in the USA

by Dyscrasia (Posted Wed, 08 Jul 2009 04:12:55 +0000)
Alright, here's the situation.
I'm 18, live in Canada, and this year I was suppose to graduate but I didn't. Because of personal problems and issues with my high school. I went to the guidance counselor and the vice principle to allow me to transfer and leave their school's attendance list. But they refused to let me. So I stopped attending any ways.

Now I wish to attend high school in the USA because of other issues. My boyfriend lives in the USA and we've talked it over for me to move in with him.

So I was wondering how would I do that. I will have a place to stay with him but I also want to go to high school and possibly to college/university after I get my last semester completed. What steps should I do to attend high school in the USA? (such as visas, passports, people I need to talk to, etc.)
Read the main topic related to this post
