While I did what I was supposed to with the one charge brought to my attention, like anyone else involved I can't help but be deeply saddened these matters are alleged to have occurred.

"Sue and I have devoted our lives to helping young people reach their potential. The fact that someone we thought we knew might have harmed young people to this extent is deeply troubling. If this is true we were all fooled, along with scores of professionals trained in such things, and we grieve for the victims and their families. They are in our prayers.

"As my grand jury testimony stated, I was informed in 2002 by an assistant coach that he had witnessed an incident in the shower of our locker room facility. It was obvious that the witness was distraught over what he saw, but he at no time related to me the very specific actions contained in the Grand Jury report. Regardless, it was clear that the witness saw something inappropriate involving Mr. Sandusky. As Coach Sandusky was retired from our coaching staff at that time, I referred the matter to university administrators.

"I understand that people are upset and angry, but let's be fair and let the legal process unfold. In the meantime I would ask all Penn Staters to continue to trust in what that name represents, continue to pursue their lives every day with high ideals and not let these events shake their beliefs nor who they are."

A Penn State spokeswoman says the University will pay for defense attorneys for the athletic director and vice president.

No vote of confidence for Sandusky, himself, who’s now been barred from campus after.

Comments on the school’s Facebook page lament the stain on the legendary football program and call for the resignation of all involved, even Joe Paterno, who is not charged in the indictment, but who reportedly was told about Sandusky’s behavior nine years ago.

Victim #2: Not to downplay the other alleged incidents, but this is the one prominently involving the Penn State administration and Joe Paterno.

On March 1, 2002, Sandusky was alleged caught by a PSU football Graduate Assistant (identified by the Harrisburg Patriot-News as current PSU wide receivers coach Mike McQueary) with a 10-year old boy in the showers at Lasch.

The next day, the Graduate Assistant called Joe Paterno and went to Paterno's home to describe what he saw at Lasch.

On March 3, Paterno called Director of Athletics Tim Curley to his home and relayed what he had been told.

According to the Grand Jury Findings of Fact, approximately one and one-half weeks later, the GA is summoned to a meeting with Curley and Gary Schultz, who assure the GA that they would investigate further. Joe Paterno was not at this meeting.

HARRISBURG -- Attorney General Linda Kelly and Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan today announced that criminal charges have been filed against three Centre County men as the result of an extensive and wide-reaching grand jury investigation into reports of the sexual abuse of children.

The defendants include:

Gerald A. "Jerry" Sandusk

Gerald Arthur Jerry Sandusky, age 67, of 130 Grandview Road, State College, former Defensive Coordinator for the Penn State University football team and founder of The Second Mile, a charitable organization that operates programs for young people.

Timothy Mark Curley, age 57, of 201 Meadowlark Lane, Boalsburg, the Director of Athletics for Penn State University.

Gary Charles Schultz, age 62, of 636 Rosslyn Road, Boalsburg, Senior Vice President for Finance and Business at Penn State University, a position that includes oversight of the Penn State University Police Department.

?This is a case about a sexual predator who used his position within the university and community to repeatedly prey on young boys,? Kelly said. ?It is also a case about high-ranking university officials who allegedly failed to report the sexual assault of a young boy after the information was brought to their attention, and later made false statements to a grand jury that was investigating a series of assaults on young boys.

I hope people will understand that any suspicion of sexual abuse should be reported to the police,? Commissioner Noonan said. ?Sexual abuse is a serious issue and children are often scared to tell anyone about the abuse ? many cases are hidden for years ? but by informing the police they can stop it.?

Kelly and Noonan said that evidence was presented to an investigating grand jury, which recommended the criminal charges that were filed today. Testimony was heard from numerous victims and others who observed or reported suspicious activities, along with the submission of local and state records from the University Police, Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare and Children and Youth Services offices.

Kelly said the investigation by Pennsylvania State Police and the Attorney General?s Office was initiated by a referral from then Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira. Originally, the case focused on the claims of ?Victim 1,? a young boy who reported that Sandusky had indecently assaulted him and engaged in various sex acts while the boy was a house guest at Sandusky?s home in College Township, Centre County.

Kelly said the victim first encountered Sandusky through the Second Mile program, when he was 11 or 12 years old, attending a Second Mile camp on the Penn State University campus. Sandusky also allegedly used expensive gifts to maintain contact with the boy, including trips to professional and college sporting events, golf clubs, a computer, clothing and money.

According to the grand jury, Sandusky used overnight visits at his home to make physical contact with the boy, typically at bed time. The victim testified that Sandusky?s advances began with ?back cracking? and rubbing, later progressing to Sandusky performing sex acts on the boy and having the boy engage in similar activity with him.

Kelly said that Sandusky also allegedly used his position as a volunteer coach at a high school in Clinton County in order to continue contacting the victim, often calling the boy from study hall to have unsupervised ?meetings? with Sandusky.

The grand jury also heard testimony from a wrestling coach at the high school about an unusual evening encounter at the school, where Sandusky was discovered lying face-to-face with the boy in a secluded weight room. Other high school officials testified that Sandusky was ?clingy? and ?needy? in his reaction to situations where boys he was supposedly mentoring would break-off their relationships, describing the behavior as ?suspicious.?

The grand jury noted that Sandusky was barred from the school district attended by the victim in 2009, after the boy?s mother reported allegations of sexual assault to the school. That matter was promptly reported to authorities, as required by Pennsylvania law ? a report that marked the start of an extensive investigation by Pennsylvania State Police and the Attorney General?s Office.

The quick action by high school staff members in Clinton County in response to reports of a possible sexual assault by Sandusky is in marked contrast to the reaction of top officials at Penn State University, who had actually received a first-hand report of a sexual attack by Sandusky seven years earlier.

?One of the most compelling and disturbing pieces of testimony in this investigation came from an eyewitness to a late-night sexual assault that allegedly occurred in March of 2002, in the locker room of the Lasch Football Building on the University Park Campus,? Kelly said. ?Hearing what sounded like sexual activity in the showers of a building that was supposed to be empty, a graduate assistant reportedly observed Sandusky sexually assaulting a naked boy who appeared to be about 10 years old.?

According to the grand jury, the graduate assistant had returned to the football building that evening to put a new pair of sneakers in his locker and to retrieve some recruiting films, only to be surprised that the lights were on in the locker room and showers were running. The assistant immediately recognized Sandusky.

Kelly said the assistant, who was extremely upset about what he had seen, immediately called his father to relate what he had discovered. Together, the two decided that the assistant should promptly report the incident to head football coach Joe Paterno.

The next morning, the assistant telephoned Paterno and then went to Paterno?s home to explain what he had seen. Paterno testified that he then called Penn State Athletic Director Tim Curley and met with Curley the following day, explaining that a graduate assistant had reported seeing Sandusky involved in sexual activity with a young boy in the showers at the Lasch Building.

Kelly said that approximately one and a half weeks later, the graduate assistant was called to a meeting with Curley and Gary Schultz, who was Senior Vice President for Finance and Business at the University. At that time, the assistant again recounted what he had witnessed Sandusky doing to a young boy in the showers of the football locker room.

?Despite a powerful eyewitness statement about the sexual assault of a child, this incident was not reported to any law enforcement or child protective agency, as required by Pennsylvania law,? Kelly said. ?Additionally, there is no indication that anyone from the university ever attempted to learn the identity of the child who was sexually assaulted on their campus or made any follow-up effort to obtain more information from the person who witnessed the attack first-hand.?

Kelly said that rather than reporting the matter to law enforcement, Curley and Schultz agreed that Sandusky would be told he could not bring any Second Mile children into the football building. That message was also reportedly related to Dr. John Raykovitz at the Second Mile (Past Executive Director and Executive Vice-President and currently the President and CEO of the Second Mile).

?Despite this so-called ?ban?, which was reviewed and approved by University President Graham Spanier without any further inquiry on his part, there was no effective change in Sandusky?s status with the school and no limits on his access to the campus,? Kelly said. ?Sandusky?s ?emeritus? position, alleged negotiated as part of his 1999 retirement, provided him with an office in the Lasch Football Building; unlimited access to all football facilities, including the locker room; access to all recreational facilities; a parking pass; a university Internet account; listing in the faculty directory and numerous other privileges ? he had remained a regular presence on campus.?

During testimony before the grand jury, Schultz acknowledged that he was aware of a 1998 University Police investigation that also involved allegations of sexually inappropriate behavior involving Sandusky and young boys in the football showers, but did not pursue the matter further and did not seek any additional review in light of the new report in 2002.

The grand jury also noted that the 1998 report involving Sandusky and boys in the showers was reviewed by University Police and Child Protective Services, with the blessing of Wendell Courtney, who at the time served as University Counsel and was (and remains) counsel to The Second Mile ? though no criminal charges were ever pursued.

Kelly said the grand jury determined that Curley and Schultz had provided false testimony while discussing their response to the 2002 report of a child sexual assault in the football showers.

Specifically, the grand jury found that Curley committed perjury in repeatedly denying that he had ever been told that Sandusky had engaged in sexual misconduct with a child.

Additionally, assertions by Schultz that the allegations concerning Sandusky were ?not that serious? and that he and Curley ?had no indication that a crime had occurred? were in direct contradiction to other testimony and constituted perjury.

The grand jury found that portions of the testimony provided by both Curley and Schultz were not credible.

?The failure of top university officials to act on reports of Sandusky?s alleged sexual misconduct, even after it was reported to them in graphic detail by an eyewitness, allowed a predator to walk free for years - continuing to target new victims,? Kelly said. ?Equally disturbing is the lack of action and apparent lack of concern among those same officials, and others who received information about this case, who either avoided asking difficult questions or chose to look the other way.?

Kelly said that despite the false testimony and ?uncooperative atmosphere? encompassing some Penn State University and Second Mile officials, investigators from the Attorney General?s Office and State Police gradually uncovered a pattern of other potential sexual assaults by Sandusky.

The grand jury eventually identified a total of eight young men who were the targets of similar sexual advances or assaults by Sandusky, starting in 1994 and continuing through 2009. All of the victims first encountered Sandusky through Second Mile activities.

Kelly and Noonan explained that the search continues for additional victims and this case remains an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators from the Office of Attorney General at 814-863-1053 or Pennsylvania State Police at 814-470-2238.

Sandusky is charged with the following offenses:

Seven counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, all first-degree felonies which are each punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
One count of aggravated indecent assault, a second-degree felony punishable by up to ten years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
Four counts of unlawful contact with a minor, all first-degree felonies which are each punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
Four counts of unlawful contact with a minor, all third-degree felonies which are each punishable by up to seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
Four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, all third-degree felonies which are each punishable by up to seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
Four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, all first-degree misdemeanors which are each punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Eight counts of corruption of minors, all first-degree misdemeanors which are each punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
One count of indecent assault, a third-degree felony punishable by up to seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
Four counts of indecent assault, all second-degree misdemeanors which are each punishable by up to two years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Two counts of indecent assault, all first-degree misdemeanors which are each punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
One count of attempt to commit indecent assault, a second-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Sandusky was taken into custody today in Centre County and preliminarily arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Leslie A. Dutchcot, who released him on $100,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 9th.

Curley and Schultz are each charged with one count of perjury, a third-degree felony punishable by up to seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine, along with one count each of failure to report (under the Child Protective Services Law), a summary offense punishable by up to 90 days in prison and a $200 fine.

Curley and Schultz are scheduled to surrender on Monday, November 7th, before Harrisburg Magisterial District Judge Marsha Stewart.

Sandusky will be prosecuted in Centre County, while Curley and Schultz will be prosecuted in Dauphin County, all by Senior Deputy Attorney General Jonelle Harter Eshbach of the Attorney General?s Criminal Prosecutions Section.

Kelly thanked the Pennsylvania State Police for their extensive assistance with this joint investigation.

You want to scream at the traumatized graduate assistant coach in 2002 and janitor in 2000 who saw and didn’t stop it, according to the report released by the Pennsylvania attorney general’s office. You want to grab hold of and shake those who reported the crime only to their superiors, washed their hands of responsibility and then let it go, treating a kid’s life as if it were a football that slipped through their hands.

to launch a pre-emptive strike to warn the public that the
state is considering privatizing the sexual violent
predator program.
"I cannot believe that after all of our efforts to

would hand custody to a private company in order to cut

A detective searching for a sexual predator missing since Monday found his target dead by suicide Wednesday afternoon, authorities say.
Charles Heritage, 60, who goes by "Rick," took a bus to Pasco County upon his release from prison Monday for crimes he committed against small children in 2004. There he purchased "suspicious" items, authorities say.
Breedlove found Heritage had hung himself in the woods behind the house, said Sgt. Donna Black, sheriff's spokeswoman.
Prison records show Heritage served three years and five months of a five-year sentence for two counts of providing obscene material to children, two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation and one count of lewd and lascivious exhibition.

A Michigan man wore a T-shirt that said "World's Greatest Dad" when he went to have sex with someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl, officials tell the Detroit Free Press.
Daniel Allen Everett "allegedly engaged in graphic sexual conversation with an undercover agent and propositioned the agent, who was posing as a 14-year-old girl, to meet him for sex," prosecutors say in a statement issued Tuesday. "This afternoon, Everett was arrested in Novi where he is alleged to have appeared to meet the minor for sex. He was arrested wearing a T-shirt with the words, 'Worlds Greatest Dad' on the front, a sad reminder that Internet predators come from all walks of life."
Everett, a 33-year-old who chatted online as "danmichelle2004," was charged yesterday with child sexual abuse and using the Internet to attempt sexual abuse.

A former fifth-grade teacher in Pahrump, Nev., has been sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison for receiving child pornography over the Internet as a result of an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Michael Gogerty, 41, who pleaded guilty to the charges in February, was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Robert Jones to 97 months in prison followed by a lifetime of supervision. Until his arrest last year, Gogerty was employed at Hafen Elementary School in the Nye County School District.
During a subsequent consensual search of Gogerty's home, investigators discovered numerous images and video files containing child pornography on his computer. A forensic analysis revealed Gogerty possessed more than 60,000 images containing child pornography, including some depicting sadistic and masochistic conduct and minors under 12. The court took those factors into consideration in determining Gogerty's sentence.

Bernie Ward, a prominent radio talk show host and reporter in the Bay Area for more than two decades, admitted today to distributing child pornography in a plea deal that will send him to federal prison for at least five years.
Ward is to be sentenced Aug. 28. Weinberg said federal prosecutors intend to ask Walker to send the former talk show host to prison for nine years. Under federal law, the minimum term Ward could receive is five years.
Ward, 57, has admitted that he downloaded and sent pornographic images of children on the Internet in 2004, but said he had been doing research for a book. Federal law, however, prohibits receipt, possession and distribution of child pornography regardless of intent.

Troubled R&B star R. Kelly has launched a last-minute bid to have his
child pornography trial delayed again.

The trial has been plagued by delays and hold-ups, but was finally due to
begin with jury selection on Friday in Chicago, six years after the singer was initially charged with having sex with a minor.

But Kelly's lawyers have now asked for the trial to be temporarily delayed
due to a recent "torrent of publicity" surrounding the case, which they feel
could have a negative effect on the trial's outcome.

The 41-year-old has pleaded not guilty to 14 charges of child pornography,
after a videotape emerged allegedly showing him having sex with an underage
girl.

A Roman Catholic priest from Roosevelt was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in federal prison Friday after admitting he stored 600 images of young boys in sexual acts on his rectory computer, officials said.

Thomas G. Saloy, 46, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Joseph F. Bianco in Central Islip on charges of possession of child pornography. As part of his plea deal, Saloy admitted to possessing less than half of the lewd images prosecutors initially found in his possession.

During the investigation, a Suffolk police officer posing as a 16-year-old boy in an America Online chatroom received sexually explicit messages from Saloy in September and October 2006, according to prosecutors. Authorities then seized Saloy's computer.

Ordained in 1998, Saloy has been associate pastor at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church in West Babylon, St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in East Islip, and the Parish of St. Raphael in East Meadow.

A Phoenix police detective arrested Wednesday in connection with child-pornography charges will stay off the force as an internal investigation continues into his case.

Detective Richard Michael Polk, a 26-year veteran in the department's homicide unit, was arrested on suspicion of 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after two online investigations accused him of having at least 10 child pornography videos, court documents reported.

Polk was released on bond, but must stay away from minors and may see his own child only under supervision as the case proceeds, according to reports. Polk is married and has one child who is a minor. He also has an adult child. Authorities said the family was not involved

Investigators reported he also used an online file-sharing service to distribute images.

Police detectives arrested a South Florida man on nearly 20 counts of child pornography Wednesday.
Detectives were waiting for Jorge Tamayo, 45, as he walked into the Sarasota County courthouse for an unrelated case.
Authorities are interviewing Tamayo this morning, and details of the case were not immediately available.
Tamayo, of Palm Beach, has been in and out of court in recent months, fighting a divorce, a restraining order and at least two foreclosures.

A Milford doctor wanted by both local and federal authorities has been captured in Portugal. 48 year old James Joseph Kelly II was on the run since February after Milford Police found thousands of pornographic images of girls, some believed to be younger than 8 years old, on a laptop computer seized in a November search of his Hillsdale Drive home. While his case was featured on “America’s Most Wanted”, Milford Police tell WHMI his arrest last week in Portugal came about after he told the U.S. Embassy there his passport had been stolen and applied for a new one. Embassy officials then saw he was wanted on child pornography charges in Michigan and managed to convince him to return the next day while they arranged for an arrest warrant from Portuguese officials. A Stuarts Draft man was indicted Monday by the Augusta County grand jury on 66 counts of possession of child pornography.
Authorities arrested Scott E. Forrester, 39, of 33 December Drive, on April 8 after authorities from the Bedford County Internet Crimes Against Children task force were contacted by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children based on a complaint filed by a video and photo-sharing Web site. A subpoena was issued to Comcast Corp., leading to the identification of Forrester, according to court records.
Authorities seized three computers, 72 CDs and DVDs, a camcorder, a digital camera, girl's underwear and two dolls from Forrester's double-wide trailer, court records show. At least 5,000 pornographic images were uncovered, 90 percent of them involving girls younger than 18, the sheriff's office said.

61-year-old David Tanguay of Windham pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child pornography on Wednesday.
According to court records, an investigation back in 2003 discovered Tanguay in a list of persons who subscribed to child pornography websites. After admitting downloading the images and consenting to a search, federal agents discovered the images on his hard drive.
With the guilty plea, Tanguay now faces up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.

A $200,000 bond has been set for a South Carolina man charged with possessing child pornography and having materials to make a bomb.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports that Paul Danao appeared in court Thursday and remains in the Beaufort County jail.
Danao was arrested on April 12 after bomb-making materials and child pornography were found in his van.
Earlier this week, the Bluffton man also was charged with two counts of performing lewd acts on children. Authorities say he molested two 6-year-old girls he was baby-sitting.

A Stuarts Draft man faces 100 child pornography charges.
39-year-old Scott Ernest Forrester was arrested and charged in early April with 33 counts of manufacturing child pornography as well as taking indecent liberties with a child.
He's accused of producing the images and posting them to the Internet. As a result of the investigation, Forrester faces 67 other charges for possessing child pornography.
He is being held at the Middle River Regional Jail.

Breaking with standards widely followed by the mainstream news media, the celebrity Web site TMZ posted a story Wednesday about a 14-year- old who's a movie star's son and an alleged sex crime victim, and it ran the boy's picture.
The story said the boy was in a relationship with a 22-year-old woman, whose ex-boyfriend tipped off police that she was having sex with a minor. Police have opened an investigation, the story said.
Almost all news organizations refrain from identifying sex crime victims, let alone show their picture, because of the stigma often attached to it, said Kelly McBride, ethics group leader at the journalism think tank Poynter Institute. The Associated Press' policy is not to identify people in such cases.
"The reason the story is even interesting to TMZ is because of who the child is," McBride said. "I'm not sure that alone is enough to justify" identifying the boy.
