<p>If you have a <strong><em>Salon Facebook page</em></strong> you have until <strong>30th March</strong> to plan for the changes &#8211; on that date everyone&#8217;s page will switch to the new format !</p>

<h2>The changes and what they mean for you Salon Facebook Page</h2>
<h3>Changed layout</h3>
<p>The most obvious changes are to the layout &#8211; so these are the things to know and are marked on the image above</p>
<ol>
<li>The big Timeline image (Cover Photo) gives your page a lot more <strong>impact</strong>. The size is 851 by 315 pixels.<br />BUT it <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>cannot</strong></span> include -
<ul>
<li>Price or purchase information, such as “40% off” or “Download it at our website”.</li>
<li>Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page’s About section.</li>
<li>References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site features.</li>
<li>Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “Tell your friends”.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Your Salon Profile Pic is now 180&#215;180 pixels and it will resize to 32&#215;32 as the thumbnail next to your posts on Fans newsfeeds. Use a good quality image and a simple logo.</li>
<li>The About Us section is the place for you website and phone number and a few words of description. It is about 150-190 characters &#8211; depending on the word sizes. </li>
<li>The old Tabs or Links that were on the left of your page are now Apps and sit at the top. There are 4 displayed (more open with the drop down arrow). The 1st is always a photo (random) and one is you Fan count. So you have 2 &#8220;empty&#8221; App slots visible (more on this below).</li>
</ol>
<p> But apart from the change to the layout &#8211; there is also a big change to the way that facebook Tabs work.</p>
<h3>Tabs are now Apps</h3>
<p>You used to be able to create a Tab that appeared <em>before</em> someone &#8220;liked&#8221; your page &#8211; we called these Like Us Tabs and the process of &#8220;requiring&#8221; a Like before they saw your page was  called fan-gating.</p>
<p>This facility has been removed &#8211; <strong>anyone can see your page and they do NOT have to &#8220;Like&#8221; it first !</strong></p>
<p> This means that unless you make some changes you will miss out on getting new fans and your posts will not appear in their facebook newsfeed.</p>
<p>The solution to this problem are the Apss shown as item 4 above. These are the same as the old <em>Tabs</em> in that they let you show a small page on content &#8211; and you can show different content to Fans and non-Fans. So your App CAN say &#8220;Like to reveal hidden content&#8221; and the like refreshes the screen with the photos, text, voucher or any other content.</p>
<p>So, it is vital that any links to your facebook Page (i.e. from your website) do not go to www.facebook.com/MySalon but go to the App that asks for the <em>Like .</em> To see this in action <a href="http://www.facebook.com/SalonGuru/app_197602066931325">follow this link</a> to an App on my Facebook Page<em>.</em></p>
<p>The images of Salon Websites are only visible to Fans and therefore give us the ability to hide content from non-fans and still get &#8220;likes&#8221; and new fans.</p>
<p> This change to the way your Salon facebook page works is important and needs a rethink on your Tabs/Appps and the links you use.</p>
<p> One nice new feature is that the Apps have an image (see 4 above) as opposed to the text links of Tabs. The new window that opens when you click an App button is also wider at 810 pixels rather than the restrictive 520 of the old tabs.</p>
<h3>Other Changes</h3>

<p><strong>What it is </strong> &#8211; This tool allows you to offer a Prize drawn by raffle. Each social &#8220;activity&#8221; gives them extra entries into the raffle and increases their chance of winning.</p>

<p><strong>How it is created</strong> &#8211; You build the <em>Giveway</em> using an admin tool that defines the prize, any terms, the end date and also what activities earn an entry into the draw.</p>
<p><strong>How it is promoted</strong> &#8211; You first create a page on your salon website that will contain the <em>Giveaway</em> &#8211; like this one. You can add images and text to the page &#8211; either to show the prize or to give clear instructions. The Giveaway tool is then displayed using a small widget box that handles all entries.</p>
<p><strong>How people enroll</strong> &#8211; Entrants sign-up using Facebook or using their email address. A simple one click to enter and give permission to access their facebook info.</p>
<p><strong>How people earn entries into the raffle</strong> -</p>

<li><strong>Sending</strong> Facebook invites to their friends. (+1 entry for each invite)</li>
<li>Distributing a unique invite link to your giveaway. (+1 entry for each friend that visits your giveaway and +5 entries for each friend that joins the giveaway) This is a great way to make sure that your users tell all their friends about your site.</li>
</ul>
<p>At the end of a time period that you set the giveaway will end; the system will then let you choose a winner at random and contact them by email. You can choose more than one winner.</p>

<p>Every Salon has empty appointments at some time -whether its for a wet Monday morning or a last minute cancellation for one of your key staff. And the growth of Coupon sites like Groupon and Living Social means that there are always clients looking for a <em>last minute Salon Deal</em>.</p>
<p>The <strong>Late Deals</strong> system from Salon Guru allows you to compete with Coupon sites, fill your appointment book and attract new clients.  And unlike <em>Coupons</em> you do not share the income, and so generate a lot more salon income and profit.</p>

<h2>Late Deals administration</h2>
<p>This is the back-end system that allows you to login and create and edit your Deals. Allowing Salons to manage their own deals (without our help) is vital so that you can quickly and easily add appointment slots you want to fill.<br />The administration system automatically emails both<strong> the Salon</strong> and <strong>the client</strong> when a Deal is &#8220;claimed&#8221; and you can restrict the number available, the dates they display and any Terms.<br />This is an example <span style="font-size: medium;text-decoration:underline"><a title="Late Deals Admin" href="http://www.salonguru.net/late-deals-admin/">Late Deals Admin page</a></span> &#8211; it can be styled to match your websites colours and layout.</p>
<h2>Late Deals for clients</h2>

<p>For any Salon to succeed and grow it is vital to get feedback from clients &#8211; what are you doing well, where could you improve?</p>
<p>The obvious way to do this is a <strong>Salon Client Survey</strong> but how do you do this easily, regularly and with the right questions?</p>
<p>On the next page you can test-drive a <em>Salon Client Survey</em> &#8211; but let&#8217;s first look at why the system we have developed is the best way to get client feedback for your salon.</p>
<h2>How we invite people to take the Salon Survey</h2>
<p><strong>Send an email invitation to clients</strong> -<br />This means you can pre-load the survey with information about the client e.g. name, date of visits, stylist, type of service. This can be hidden from clients but be part of the survey results and analysis. <br />Emailing client invitations means you can export a list of any kind of client for any survey e.g. New Clients, Lost Clients, High Value Clients.</p>
<p><strong>Place the survey on a webpage -</strong><br />This time you will need to ask for their name, email, date of visits etc. if you want the answer as part of the survey. But, it requires no emails or data exports.<br />You <span style="text-decoration: underline;">can</span> offer different surveys for different types of clients on separate pages e.g. www.MySalon.com/NewClient or www.MySalon.com/LostClient</p>
<p><strong>Put the survey on your Facebook Wall -</strong><br />Either use a Tab to hold the survey &#8211; or just post a link on your wall to a survey held online</p>
<h2>What are Survey Logic, Branching and Actions ?</h2>
<p><strong>Logic</strong> allows you do &#8220;do&#8221; things in the survey based on information. E.g. if a c<em>olor client</em> ask this question, if a <em>Man</em> ask this, if <em>aged over 50</em> ask this<br />The information could be preloaded (if invited via email) or an answer to any question on the survey<br />You will see logic in use in our example &#8211; if a <em>Good</em> salon rating do this &#8211; if a <em>Bad</em> salon rating do this.</p>
<p><strong>Branching</strong> lets you jump questions or whole pages &#8211; so if a <em>Guy</em> don&#8217;t ask any of these questions, if a New Client jump to page 3</p>
<p><strong>Actions</strong> are things that happen when conditions are met. Examples include, if a <em>Bad</em> rating &#8211; send and email to the salon, if a <em>Good</em> rating &#8211; offer a Gift Voucher and send an email for &#8220;<em>Recommend a Friend</em>&#8220;</p>
