On the other hand, if a keyword gets 100,000 searches and if its CPC is zero, Google will pay you nothing even if you rank first for it in Google. So judging a keyword is little bit complicated.

How to Judge the Value of a Keyword Phrase?

To know the value of a keyword phrase, there are simply few questions to be answered.

• Is the keyword relevant to your site content?
• How much is its revenue generating potential?
• Is its competition manageable?
• Can it deliver what the searchers are looking for?
• How does it look compared to other available keyword phrases?

Relevancy

You cannot rank your page for a keyword phrase that is not relevant and doesn’t fit to your website’s content. It is unacceptable, useless and ultimately detrimental to your website.

Revenue Generating Potential

How do you estimate the revenue potential of a keyword phrase?

Let us consider a keyword that has current CPC of $0.40 and another keyword, which has 8000 searches per month – which is better in generating high revenue?

You can’t estimate it with the information provided here. You need some more information to estimate it.

If the first phrase that has current CPC of $0.40 produced 100,000 searches per month, it would give you enough volume to make a lot of money though the CPC is not that much high.

If the second phrase that has 8000 searches per month had a CPC of $8, it would also be worth going after it.

On the other hand, if a keyword has low search volume as well as low CPC, it would be better not to go after it.

So, the earning potential depends on both of key elements – Search Volume and CPC.

After a lot of brain storming sessions, he came up with a formula – which is called Adsense Potential Formula that provides him an estimation of his profit potential from a keyword phrase. The formula is:

AP = (20% of Global Search) x (25% of CPC) x (5%)

Where

AP: Adsense potential or revenue generating potential of a keyword phrase that can be earned using Google Adsense ad on your website.

Global Search: It is global monthly search that a keyword approximately gets. This is what determines how much traffic you can get if you rank first in Google. From his research he found that if your keyword phrase ranks first in Google you can generally get 20% – 30% of the searcher to click in to your website. It may vary depending on the exact title and description that show up in Google.

So, the safest assumption is 20% of the traffic or 20% of Global Search that you can pull out to your website if you rank first in Google. This means that if a keyword has 10,000 searches per month, then you are going to get approximately 20% of 10,000 or 2000 searchers to land on your web page.

CPC: It is the cost per click that Google charges. This is what an advertiser bid on keywords depending on how much profit they can make with them. But, you will not get the full amount that is indicated by CPC in Google Adword tool. He found out a reliable indicator, which assumes that every click is usually worth around 25% of CPC. The actual percentage may vary. But this estimation has worked out well for him. So, if a keyword phrase has CPC of $4, you can safely expect to have an earning of 25% of $4, which means you can generate a profit of $1 for every click that you generate on your web page.

CTR: Click through rate. This is another important parameter that significantly controls your earning potential. From his research, he made a realistic assumption that tells us that an average of 5% of the visitors that come to your webpage actually click on an ad.

From his research and case studies he derived above formula. Using his formula let us calculate the Adsense potential or AP or revenue generating potential from a single web page.

Let us assume you optimize a web page with a keyword phrase that has ranked number one in Google and it has 10,000 global searches per month and its CPC is $4.

Then, your Adsense Potential or AP

= (20% of Global search) x (25% of CPC) x (5% clicks thru)

= (20% of 10,000) x (25% of $4) x (5%)

= (0.2 x 10,000) x (0.25 x $4) x (0.05)

= (2000) x ($1) x (.05)

= $100

In this case, $100 is the approximate Adsense potential of revenue per month that you can generate from a single page of your website if you purely concentrate on monetizng your page content only with Adsense ad.

Now, if you have 100 pages on your blog or website, you can monetize those 100 pages in the same way and make an approximate profit of ($100 x 100) i.e. $10,000 per month only with Adsense ad.

It is not expected that you only use Google Adsense to monetize your website or blog. You can use all other monetizing techniques like selling affiliate program or your own products on your web pages or blog. In that case, it is obvious that your earning potential will be much much higher.

So, it is not at all tough job for you to estimate your profit potential using Google Adword tool. The only challenge is the volume of work that involves in brainstorming keyword phrases. Studying and researching thousands of them, selecting right keywords from them and making right estimation is really time consuming.

Here you need automation to shortcut your lengthy process. In this case he uses a tool called Keyword Project Manager, which ridiculously shortcuts his process and helps him in a number of steps to improve his productivity to a great extent. It’s a paid service. You can try it free for 7 days.

He just uploads the spreadsheets from Google Adword tool and Keyword Project Manager does the rest like calculating the profit potential, analyzing the competition and a lot of other things, which actually minimize his workload to a great extent.

Managing Competition

Don’t Go for Highly Competitive Keyword Phrases

In his research, he found out that some keywords are highly competitive and ridiculously difficult to rank for. So, it is not worth going after them.

For example he tried to rank a highly competitive keyword phrase “internet marketing”, which took his thousands of hours of hard work to make it possible. Though he made enough money from that keyword, but he realized that in this case his ROI (Return of Investment) was relatively much lower compared to easier phrases.

According to him, you should go after the valuable phrases, which are relatively easy and return of time and work is maximum.

Don’t Rely on the Number of Search Results Showed in Google

Google normally ranks the best pages according to the strength, relevancy, and number of links pointing at them. There are many other factors too.

One top ranking page for a particular keyword phrase can have significantly different strength, relevancy and number of links pointing to it from another top ranking page based on different keyword.

That’s why two keywords, which have approximately same number of exact match in Google search can be significantly different in the strength, relevancy and number of links they have pointing to them.

In the same way, phrases that showed up say 50,000 search results in Google are not necessarily easier than phrases with over 500,000 search results.

It is because of the number of results can’t tell us anything about the keyword strength and the strength that matters.

Follow the Page Ranks (Google’s indicator of page strength) of Your Competition

From his continuous experiments Court found that if you are starting a website from scratch, it is important that you choose keywords that are really easy to rank for. In that case, it is better to select those keyword phrases for which the top four results are either Page Rank 0, 1 or 2 pages.

If you have a PR1 website and publish a post that ends up being PR0, it’s going to be really tough to outrank a PR6 page.

In that case it would be better if you save more difficult keywords for latter use in the process.

On the other hand, if you have an established website that’s been around for a while; the above rule could make you miss out the valuable phrases that you could rank for.

For example, if you have an established website with Page Rank 4, then you should be willing to go against all of the competition that’s much stronger than you. You should be comfortable at least against all the pages, which have Page Rank 3, or less.

So, the suggestion is when you select keyword phrases for your page to get top rank in Google, you should observe the Page Rank of existing top four web pages already listed in Google. If their ranks are lower than you or equal to yours, go for it, otherwise it would be better to keep those keywords for your future use.

You can do it manually. But honestly speaking, it takes a lot of time. You can automate this process by significantly saving your production hours using the tool called Keyword Project Manager. Using this tool, you can easily filter out those keywords, which have been ranked top by higher Page Rank websites than yours.

Usage of Keyword Project Manager

You can use Keyword Project Manager to automate your entire keyword research, analysis and management process. Each time you can have a list of fully customized keyword phrases according to your own requirements.

You can specify the minimum and maximum keyword word count. For example, if you want to have specifically targeted long tail keyword phrases consisting of three to five words, you can specify it in the tool as minimum = 3 and maximum = 5 and get the list of keyword phrases in minutes.

You can set filter for keywords with minimum and maximum Page Rank. For example, you have a website of PR2 and need to select those keywords, which are less than PR3. In that case you can set minimum as 0 and maximum as 2 to select all those keyword phrases that you can possibly compete for the top rank in Google.

In the same way you can set different filters with minimum and maximum parameters for Global search, Local search, CPC, Adsense Potential (earning potential using Adsense ad) and many other variables. You can sort the filtered output on each of the variables as well as all variables.

For example, you want to find out a list of keyword phrases, which are less than PR3 with minimum of 3 and maximum of 5 word count based on “kitchen appliances” and average CPC is more than $4 and Global search is less than 10,000. And ultimately you want to sort your results based on AP (Adesense potential) to get highest adsense potential keyword phrases come at the top of your list. You can do them all in a single step.

This tool really helps you brainstorming and picking up list of perfect keywords for your web pages to rank them top in Google and other top search engines.

Expand Keyword into Keyword Groups

Instead of targeting single keyword phrase to rank top in the Google, it is better to target closely related multiple keyword phrases on your blog post. It can give you outstanding results in terms of traffic and revenue.

Here is Court’s own word – intelligently organized groups of keywords are guaranteed to win.

He showed an example with keyword like this “money to start a business” and used Google Adword tool and got more than 80 keyword phrases with slight variations. He downloaded the list in an Excel sheet and dragged them from their current positions to different positions forming four groups, making each of them slightly different from others.

The first group of keywords was related very closed to primary keyword phrase.

The next group contained the variation “start up”

The third group included ether “i” or “you”.

The final group slightly differed from others with the variations like “free”, “grant” and “government”.

But he grouped all of them because they all represented the same kind of searchers.

Now from those groups he came up with the title like this -

So, the concept is refining each of the keyword groups, pairing similar keywords and developing a post title providing maximum coverage.

Deliver Exactly What the Searcher is Looking For

It is evident that all profitable keyword phrases are not directly relevant to your business or blog or your website. Your brainstorming winning keywords don’t always fit to your deliverables because they don’t always address to your customers’ need. Sometimes what a software or product can provide to its customers, a blog post can’t provide that and vice versa.

It is also true that sometimes we are tempted to go after some phrases because it is not always easy to find a good one. But, if you think that you don’t have right deliverables relevant to the keyword and you are not enough competent to justify what your searcher is looking for from your keyword, then it is better to leave it and delete the keyword from your list. On the other hand, if you have right deliverables to satisfy your searcher, just go for it.

Serve the Searcher

You can serve your searcher by publishing high value post on your blog providing the right solution with insightful and interesting points to address your searcher’s problem.

A simple way to build up main points of your post is to turn your post title into quick outlines.

Just like that.

In this description, I used the same keyword combination that was used in the post title. I also added a meaningful question for my readers – Is success meant for few people only or you can achieve it? It was a direct question to my readers who want to get success in online entrepreneurship.

At the end I made a statement. It talked about what exactly my readers would get from this blog post. It was – 8 easy steps to become successful online entrepreneur – which actually suggested a specific solution for it.

From the above example it is clear that I didn’t try too many techniques. It was simple. I just created the title and the description, which were related and relevant to my blog content. It talked about the problem that my blog post raised and how to get the right solution for it.

Here my aim was to create the title, the description and above all the post content for the benefit of my blog readers and for search engines like Google.

It is mainly because of the fact that Google allows only 60 words to display title in its title field. If your title is more than that it will be truncated. That’s why it is better to compose meaningful winning title using less than equal to 60 words.

3. In Meta description field I used 126-words description.

My description was -

Hey Bloggers! Are you ready for exploiting massive diversified opportunities to change your fortune in this blogevolution age?

In this description, I addressed those bloggers, who were aspirant and seriously wanted to become successful in their blogging and trying to make their place stronger in their respective niche.

Here in this description, I asked them a simple question to ignite their secret fire of desire burning inside them. I felt that a simple spark in the form of question had enough ability to ignite their burning desire. It could motivate them and inspire them to do the right things at the right time in a right way.

If someone is interested to know about opportunities for bloggers and find this post at the top of the Google search, then I am sure that the combination of the title and the description is able to make a positive impact on him or her even at the first look.

These were 3 simple things that I did while creating this post. That’s it.

Recently I published my New Year Goals on my blog. If you want to know, go through my goal setting blog post.

While setting my goals I tried to keep them simple, specific and realistic so that they do not seem cloudy and they are achievable for me. Each of them is comprised of a set of logically sequenced tasks. I just need to finish them one by one within specified time schedule and get some obvious results. If they do not give me desired results I just need to redefine those tasks to achieve my blogging goals.

If you notice my goals you will see that I just kept them simple. If I made them complicated, it might give me ambiguous results or results, which might be far behind from my goals, or even results, which might place me nowhere.

But today I want to show you some other bloggers’ goals. I randomly selected four bloggers from different fields with different level of experience and success primarily to understand the diversity of their mindset, their work culture and their approach to achieve their goals.

It’s an attempt to study their goals and learn from them. I think it will help both you and me to understand why they are different from each other and achieve different level of success.

Diversity In Setting New Year Goals & Achievements By Bloggers of Different Levels

Lets start with John Carlton. He is one of the most recognized, sought-after, and ripped-off experts in direct response marketing. Every January 15th, he sits down and writes himself a letter, dated exactly one year ahead. In that letter he describes what his life is like to be one year hence. So, in 2011, he dated the letter to himself as January 15, 2012.

The fact is – when he looks at his last year’s letter he finds that he didn’t come close to earning the income figure he set down, yet he still had his best year ever. He didn’t travel to the places he had listed but he did travel to other places, which were equally funny and enjoying.

When he looks back his several years old lists he found that he crossed out many of the more specific goals he set for himself mainly because of the fact that he didn’t feel confident obtaining them. Even he forgot about them. But the fascinating thing that happens to him after a couple of decades is that he has attained every single one of those forgotten goals.

In his view the keys are action, movement.

He truly believes in these three actions – ask, seek and knock. Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened. These simple actions have changed his life forever.

It is all about staying focused on the Big Goal. And you get there however you can. In his word – Goals are all about change.

Yaro Starak

Here is one of the eminent bloggers for you -Yaro Starak. He is famous for his blog Entrepreneurs Journey. His exclusive training programs – Become A Blogger, Blog Mastermind and Membership Mastermind already made him one of the top mentors in online business.

Recently he wrote two blog posts My Most Challenging Year Part 1 – When Family Tragedy Strikes and My Most Challenging Year Part 2: A New Business Is Born in his blog.

In the first part Yaro wrote about his true feeling when he was in despair and the turmoil he faced when his mother was going through a critical phase after her cerebral attack and the adjustment he made to balance between his business and his mothers’ rehabilitation process. It was seriously a tough time for him to get ahead of.

In the second part he talked about his New Year plan along with his blogging goals. Here he told that he wanted to a take a break in information marketing.

In his post he gave a hint of temporarily halt in launching his course 2 Hours Work Day. But later this year he might come out with his successful training program Become A Blogger 2.0 in a completely new shape.

While working with OpenX as ad rotating system he found some complications. I fully agree with him because I am still using it and I found that it gives some erroneous statistics that is not desirable and some technical complications from user’s point of view.

But he did not stick to that. He came out himself with an easier and simpler solution after lot of consultation and expense. He created a new advertise management system CrankyAds that bloggers can use in their blogs using a simple plugin.

In his version he claimed that CrankyAds is simple and easy to work with and focuses mainly on managing ad campaigns and sponsors on a blog. It includes a few unique features that help bloggers to sell ads automatically.

At the back end of CrankyAds there will be an ad network to help bloggers recruit new sponsors. I think this feature is not included right now. He is working on it. Now it is in the beta stage and free for use. I hope for it to be flourished at it’s best in the near future. When it will come with it’s full features, it will not only help him but also ease our tasks while we bloggers get it as the best advertise management system.

He is hungry for his success. It can be easily understood from his attitude and his blogging style. His goals are mostly result oriented. He is specific in getting results and knows exactly how to achieve those results in his favour.

He is aggressive this year to improve his financial condition. He believes that it will be smart move for him if he is going to make $100,000 instead of trying to make $100,000.

And most importantly, they are prepared for the changes necessary to get what they want, once they decided their goals.

As a professional blogger, I have some specific goals this year that I already set for me. But I never published my personal goals on my blog before. There are some reasons for that.

Actually, I was not very much active on my blog before. The main reason was – I was mostly occupied by my main job software development and got little time to spare for my blog.

Nevertheless, my Bogging Journey was Good so far – it was rather Impressive

I wrote nearly hundreds of blog posts or articles on my blog – most of them were not bad and ranked at the top 5 on Google even for the most competitive keywords.

They are still bringing fair amount of targeted traffic to my blog everyday and most importantly they are bringing fair amount of money every month for me. It’s not bad – right?

Regular comments on my blog suggest that I am not a bad writer as well. My readers are satisfied by the quality of the content of my blog posts and they want more from me. It gives me the rare satisfaction of being able to contribute something to my community.

Above facts actually prove that I know blogging quite a bit and I can improve my performance as a professional blogger quite easily if I invest some time in it.

That’s why I decided something different This Year

This year I made an adjustment to shift my focus significantly to my blog and wanted to invest more time in it. I made up my mind to delegate a significant part of my software development workload to my team and manage some free time to work on my blog and strengthen my blogger entity.

The main reason for making this new shift is that I am influenced by some of the great bloggers like Darren Rowse, Yaro Starak, Brian Clark, Seth Godin and many experienced and young smart bloggers across the globe. It’s not possible for me to mention all the names here.

All of them have massive fan following and their contribution to professional blogging and online business is enormous.

Actually I was interested in online business mainly by two wonderful guys long time back when they were in their early online careers. They were Shawn Casey and Frank Kern. There were some other big names like Terry Dean, Yanik Silver, Jay Abraham etc. But that time I was not able to invest significant time in online business.

I am influenced by all of them for not just the big money they make each month but for the contributions they make to the online community.

Many young fresh people as well as experienced people from different industries, different backgrounds are coming forward to take blogging and online business seriously and becoming successful online entrepreneurs.

As I have some sort of knowledge and online experience why don’t I share that experience to the people?

This is the question that made me take this decision.

That’s why I am serious now, serious about blogging, serious about making some sort of contribution to this online society, serious about earning good amount of money from it.

From the last statement, you might have misunderstood me. You might have a notion that contributing to the society is reciprocal to making money for yourself.

But, practically speaking – when you make a good amount of money everyday, every month, and every year from your work and your contribution – only then you can prove your worth.

Money shows that you Know what you Talk

Money shows the standard of your success. It provides the best testimonial of your work. It assures that you are able to impress others and that’s why your work sells. It proves that you are following the right path and doing the right thing and that’s why you are making money.

Most importantly people will listen to you because they will understand the money is the outcome of your good work. They will believe that you know what you talk.

Making money from your work signifies that you are successful. People will see your success, watch your growth and follow what you share with them.

Success comes Automatically when you Achieve your Goals

Success requires some commitments – commitments to execute some predefined day-to-day tasks. Those tasks when finished in a defined sequence give you some kind of expected results. A set of results when combined logically makes you reach a milestone or a goal that you want to achieve.

How do you Identify those Tasks?

If you want to identify those day-to-day tasks, you have to identify your realistic goals. Goal is not just the dream of making million of dollars in a year without even knowing how to earn thousand dollars in a month.

Setting Realistic Goals that is Achievable

Goals are the milestones that you wish to achieve in a certain period of time by making it possible to achieve.

So, set some realistic goals for you, and make plans to achieve your goals in certain period of time. Planning is nothing but breaking up your goals into the lowest possible number of tasks arranged in proper logical steps.

It might sound heavy, but it is not that much complicated if you are serious about it.

If you are reading this post till now, I will not make you wait any more. Here are my goals for this year.

The Goals that I Set for Me this New Year

These are only my blogging goals that I already told you. These goals don’t include the goals for my other major activities i.e. software development.

If you keep on reading this post till the end, you will notice that I didn’t set unrealistic goals for me.

Goal 1: Write at least 2 posts per week on my blog – i.e. 8 posts per month

Yes, I want to write 8 top quality articles for my blog readers in a month. I will surely want to write more posts but I don’t want to set any unrealistic goals that I might not fulfill in any case. First, I need to achieve my realistic goals.

I know many bloggers write at least one post per day or more than that. It is because of the fact that they are fulltime bloggers or they have appointed other bloggers to write for them.

In my view quality always wins, not the quantity.

Goal 2: Write only quality articles for my readers relevant to my blog niches

I want to restrict myself as a professional blogger who writes only on the topics relevant to my blog. Those are the topics about blogging, online entrepreneurship and all aspects of online business. These are my current niches of my blog. So, I don’t want to cross my limit.

Goal 3: Write at least 6 quality posts in a month for the benefit of my readers

In one of my previous blog posts I wrote an article about how to write premium blog content. I want to provide that kind of content to my blog readers. I am confidant that articles of this quality will have a positive effect on my blog. I hope my blog readers will enjoy reading them.

Goal 4: Write at least 2 posts in a month that will bring best possible money for me

Yes, money is absolutely essential for a blog or a blogger to survive. I already told that. In my mind, money is one of the topmost motivating factors that drives you do better, work harder and earn respect from others. I don’t want to ignore it in any circumstances.

But making money from your blog is not an easy job at all. It depends on many factors like quality of content, SEO, marketing, traffic, number of readers, number of subscribers, referrals and many other technical things. I don’t want to elaborate those things here.

Goal 5: Start creating Audio and Video posts

I am not at all comfortable in public speaking. That’s why I always preferred to work sitting at my desk. Conversation with your team members is different but public speaking is a nightmare to me.

But I need to take this challenge positively to diversify my content and explore new channels to grow.

I decided that I would take the advantage and my experience of addressing classes and product presentation skills in this regard.

Goal 6: Connect with respected bloggers and online entrepreneurs

Yes, this time I will definitely do it. As of now I didn’t take blogging seriously for the time constraint though I wrote plenty of quality articles that are still bringing a respected amount of targeted traffic to my blog everyday.

Though my blogging frequency was not high, but I regularly visit all respected blogs I know, read their articles and learn many important aspects of blogging, get inspiration from them and study technical aspects to keep me updated.

But this year I want to connect with them to make good personal rapport.

Though I have good relationship with some of the top bloggers and online marketers of the world but I want to be known personally with other respected probloggers and enthusiastic young online entrepreneurs too.

I believe this kind of relationships make me feel better, help me get more confidence and enrich my career as a blogger.

Goal 7: Maintain a right balance between the content and monetization

I know that just grabbing all possible monetizing opportunities is not good for a quality blog. It might seriously hurt my reputation. I have to be careful while selecting products and services that I offer to my blog readers.

They should be of highest standard, suitable and relevant to my readers’ want, and most importantly help them grow. This could be a brain storming process for me.

The best offer to my people could be those products or services that I personally use, get best possible responses and deserve automatic recommendations.

Goal 8: Be socially active to make relationship with like-minded people

Yes, it’s true that I am not active social networking user till date. But now, I want to be an aggressive social networking user not exactly for just promoting my blog or products or services that I affiliated to.

I want to use social networks to come closer to the people, share personal thoughts with them and make good relationships. That’s why I already created my Facebook like page and iFrame application on it and want to promote it for my blog readers too.

Goal 9: Want to increase my newsletter subscribers to the highest possible extent

I don’t want to set some silly target like this – at the end of this year I will have 100,000 subscribers. It is totally unrealistic goal for me. Instead of that I want to use all sorts of opportunities to increase my subscribers to the fullest extent.

I already made an exclusive eBook Insider Secrets Of A Successful Internet Business, which is available free at my blog and incorporated a list building tool to increase my list of subscribers. The fact is that it is doing pretty well for last couple of years.

What I need to do now is to promote it more aggressively on my blog’s important positions. I need to test it’s performance by placing it in multiple positions like sidebar, at the end of the post or at the footer or I can use pop-up domination – a bunch of 11 high converting tools made by a young smart blogger and entrepreneur Michael Dunlop.

So, all of the combinations might be my best possible arsenals for increasing number of subscribers rapidly.

Goal 10: Earn a certain amount of money that ensures me living online

I already earn money from my blog on a regular basis but I want to increase my earning to a level that make me feel confidant, comfortable and get enough motivation to do better, work harder.

I am not telling you that I want to make one million of dollars from my blog this year. But I want to earn an amount of money, which is sufficient for the living of my family although I own a software development business and it is giving me well enough for my living.

But in any profession, earning your family living is considered to be a benchmark. At least my effort should be able to achieve that benchmark.

In this year my aim of earning is $5000 a month for the next twelve months. I hope this is a realistic goal that I should achieve to survive as a blogger without compromising my living standard.

Conclusion:

I know my goals are not attractive. They don’t have any hype. They don’t create any buzz. They are not even complete. There are so many things that I missed here.

But these are the simple goals that I primarily want to achieve as a professional blogger and make a simple but solid foundation to move forward as a professional blogger.

These are the projections for my blogger entity for this year. I want to get as close as possible to these projections.

If I fail to meet my target, there will be no regret from my part. If I go beyond that I will be happy. What I really wish – make something Valuable, contribute something Acceptable and become someone Respectable.
