A marketing funnel involves using multiple marketing tools that link to each other strategically, before finally sending visitors to your product sales page.

It’s no secret that pre-selling is crucial to good conversion rates. When a visitor comes to your product page already pre-disposed to buying your product, or has a good opinion of the product, you’ve  got a higher chance of turning them into a sale, than somebody who lands on the page without any idea about your product.

This can be achieved by creating a marketing funnel that draws people in.

Marketing Funnel Step By Step Plan

The marketing funnel starts with tools that attract the most traffic. It could be articles, traffic exchange sites, PPC ads or even emails that you send to your subscribers. These can then push your visitors to the next stage of the marketing funnel, which could be an article on your website on a related topic.

The next step in your marketing funnel may be to direct them to a review of your product, before finally sending them to the product website.

In this multi-step marketing funnel example, your visitors encounter your product at least 4 times and in these 4 encounters, they learn lots of things about your product. This makes it easier to sell to them when they finally land on your product page.

Using your marketing funnel, you can expose your visitors to related article pages on your site, which helps establish your credibility and authority on the subject, making your recommendation of the product more powerful.

It also helps to have various selling tools on the same page. For example, on the same page as a related article on your website, you can have a link to the review page.

You may also have banner ads on the same page as your review page and on the related article pages. Having supporting images and video also helps to keep your visitors interested.

Using Social Networking In Your Marketing Funnel

To reach out to more people, you can take advantage of social networking tools. Be active in top forums, tweet updates from your site, use social bookmarking tools to promote the content you create. This encourages people to look to you for information and advice and further strengthens your online reputation as an expert.

When you combine different marketing strategies as part of your marketing funnel, you introduce your product to the most number of people you could possibly reach. Creating a strong online presence and taking advantage of the different internet marketing techniques lends credibility to you as an authority.

Remember that one of the best ways to market a product is to market yourself.

There is a way that you can subtly start attracting more traffic and you don’t need to update your own website in any way! How? The magic of an email signature.

By adding a subtle ad to your email signature file, every email you send out from your email account will contain your link. If you use an autoresponder service, you can also use these ads as ‘PS’s at the end of emails in your autoresponder sequences.

The best bit is that once you’ve taken a few minutes to set it up, it continues working for you forever, or until you choose to turn it off.

Setting Up Your Email Signature

So here’s what you should do now:

1. Open your email signature file to edit – to find out how to do this for the email service or client you use, just type the following into Google, substituting [email service] for the email service or client you use:

For example:

edit email signature Gmail

edit email signature outlook

2. Add in your email signature ad – pick one from the above, or create your own.

3. Save your new email signature.

4. If you use an autoresponder software to send out emails to a list add one of the ads to a PS statement at the end of the emails you send out.

Once you take a few minutes to set up an email signature, it continues working for you on auto-pilot forever. I have provided you with four examples that you can use. One of the best things you can do to improve your sales numbers as an internet marketer is to build a list. If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a million times: “The money is in the list.”

The reason you’ve heard that saying so many times is because it is entirely true.  If you want to make money online then my advice to you would be to build a list.

A nice big mailing list of people who have a solid interest in the kinds of products you’re promoting is solid gold. A big list of people who are not interested in what you are promoting is of no use to you.

How To Build A List

If you aren’t building a list, you need to start immediately. Here’s a quick rundown on the process.

First, get yourself set up with an autoresponder service or set up a system on your own server. You need to have an easy way to collect those addresses and to mail to them at predefined intervals.

I  have used many different types of autoresponder software over the years and have always come back to Aweber. My research has proven this to be the best all round service for my needs. Click here for further details about Aweber.

Second, create a lead capture system. You might use a squeeze page that offers subscribers a free report or something else of value in exchange for a subscription to your regular mailings.

You might offer an e-course related to your focus area. You might just opt to promote a newsletter and to create an attractive sign up opportunity. There are a million and one ways to collect leads. Find one that works for your circumstances and put it into place immediately.

Finally, start a dialog with your subscribers. Send them relevant, valuable, insightful information on a regular basis.

Don’t just sell to your list, build a relationship with them. Yes, you’ll want to promote products, but the value of a list depends, in large measure, on the quality of relationship you can build and the level of trust and credibility you can create.

Build A List To Increase Sales

Keyword relevance is so important when you are writing your content. It’s unbelievable how much time and money go down the drain on articles and ads that use keywords – but use them incorrectly.

They use a keyword, but the article or the ad, or in some cases, the page they link to when you click on them, bear little or no relevance to the keyword that was used. This is a common and costly mistake.

What is Keyword Relevance?

Keyword relevance is all about giving your users the information they are expecting. In a sense, it’s about keeping a promise you made when you used the keyword.

Imagine seeing a link for “raw dog food recipes”. You click on it and expect to find recipes. But instead of recipes, you land on a page that talks about various types of dog diets, or worse, a page that asks you to sign up for a newsletter.

When this happens, as a user, you feel betrayed. You were promised one thing, but something else was delivered.

So what do you do next? Hit the back button and try another website. And guess what? This is what your users could be doing, too, if you are not paying attention to keyword relevance.

Making your article, ad, or link relevant to the keywords you use is essential in establishing credibility and creating a positive user experience.

How To ensure keyword relevance when writing your content

When selecting a keyword for your article, think about what people are going to be expecting from that keyword. That’s what your content or your ad or your link should be about.

Give your customers the information that they need. If you consistently deliver on this “promise”, then trust for your recommendations goes up, making it easier for you to send traffic and to get good conversion rates.

And if you think the search engines don’t take note of keyword relevance, think again. Google is smarter than you think. And they can track the traffic that “bounces” off of your website.

Bounce happens when someone lands on your site, and then hits the back button. This tells Google that your site is not relevant. As you can imagine, this may affect your Google ranking for that keyword negatively.

So, evaluate what you have right now to see if you are delivering on your promise and giving your users the best user experience that you are able to. And for future efforts, be sure to make sure you use keywords in a relevant manner.

What price should I charge for my information product? Can I charge more for my information product? How can I get people to spend more? I get asked these three questions every day.

This shows a lack of experience in marketing whether on or off-line. But that’s ok, we all have to start somewhere, learn from our mistakes and move forward.

You should never base any of your marketing around charging the highest price possible. Sound crazy? Read on and you’ll see why it’s not.

Whatever the information product is that you are selling you need to turn things around and approach pricing from the other end. In other words you need to put yourself in the shoes of the customer you are trying to target.

Think about it. The people you address are selfish, as we all are. What will these potential customers want from your information product?

People want and expect:

- Quality

- Solutions to a problem

- Added value

- Something unique and / or original

People don’t:

- Want to pay more than something is worth

- Want to give their hard earned money to you in particular

- Want to buy your brand

- Care about your interests or profit

So turn things around and get into the service orientated mindset. Do this from the start and you will go a long way. Start at the price end and you’ll disappear quicker than a rat up a drain pipe!

How does this apply to you?

In all your marketing, whether in your sales copy, text ads, banner ads, email marketing, article marketing, whatever; you must offer service by considering the point of view of the customer. Ignoring this fact is a common and costly mistake when it comes to internet marketing.

Deciding On The Price For Your Information Product

So how do you decide on price?

Simple. Do some research. Start by typing your information product into Google and have a look at other people’s web sites and what they are charging for similar information products in your niche.

Do some digging around on Amazon.com. Try looking at Clickbank and see if there are any similar information products there. There are literally tonnes of resources online for you to get an idea on price for your information product.

You don’t have to just take the price other people are setting. If your information product is better than others then you could charge more. Here’s the clever bit, if you’re really savvy, why not charge less, perhaps even fifty percent less than your nearest competition?

Then what will happen?

People looking for your information product online will see someone else’s website and offer, then they’ll see yours.

Which will they choose? Yours of course.

Remember if you are selling a downloadable product such as an information product, ebook, downloadable audio, video or home study course, etc, it doesn’t matter what you make per sale. Why? Because after creating your information product it doesn’t cost you a penny, except for a few quid a year on domain registration, hosting, email broadcast software, plus advertising, etc.

Even if you are selling a physical information product package like a DVD set or written manuals, so long as you charge enough to cover your costs of advertising, printing, shipping and fulfilment, you’ll be in profit.

Bear in mind the beauty of the internet, as I’ve mentioned before, is that your shop front is the entire world not just some high street. You only need to get your information product offer in front of a tiny fraction of your chosen market and you can make a huge amount of money. So you need to think about how little you can charge not how much.

Stick with me on this one as I’ll be showing you where you’ll be making the big bucks in a minute.

Ok, so you now have a customer orientated mindset. Now think about how you will present your marketing before it gets to the point of mentioning the price.

In your sales copy (web site home page) you should focus firstly on building rapport with the reader, telling your story perhaps of struggle and express understanding and empathy with them. Then you provide your solution, followed immediately by the benefits they will get if they sign up for (don’t say ‘buy’ or ‘purchase’) your offer.

This philosophy should also translate fully into your advertising and marketing campaigns. The best adverts do not ask people to buy. They generally do not even quote a price. They are based entirely on service and they offer information by explicitly stating the advantages to users. That is the key!

Giving Away Your Information Product Increases Income

How can you make your marketing stand out?

- Offer a low price compared to your competition, as well as top quality; we already talked about this earlier. But how about going a massive step further by offering a free trial, a free sample, the first month at no cost? Or, send something on approval so the customer can prove your claims without any cost or risk. This strategy is based on proven knowledge of human behaviour and how people are led to buy.

Let me give you an example of this proven technique from over a hundred years ago. The maker of an electric sewing machine motor found marketing difficult. So, on good advice, he decided to offer people a motor for one week’s use. With it would come an operator to show the person how to use it, all at no cost. The ad simply read, “Let us help you for a week without cost or obligation.” Such an offer was resistless and about nine in ten of the trials led to sales.

The principle for marketing online is exactly the same today. Give your prospects something good for zero cost and the law of reciprocity will soon kick in and they’ll be falling over themselves trying to buy your information product because both you and your information product are better than the rest. People today still buy from people they like. And people like people who give quality and value.

Your competitors are greedy and will mostly not be doing this and this is where you can come in, dominate your niche and make a lot of money. Here’s how you make the big money.

Once your customers have had a good experience with you and your Information product they will have built up trust in you. On purchasing your information product, you will collect their email address using autoresponder software such as Aweber,  so you will be able to offer them future promotions.

This is why it’s very important to think about your ‘back end’ product when setting up your front end. So, for example if you are selling an ebook, your back end could be an audio set of the same or related information. Or it could be a DVD set made easily using powerpoint slides and your voice recording, all mixed together using software such as camtasia. Always have the long term future of your business in mind.

You should also be thinking about other back end products such as coaching, audio recordings of interviews you have done with experts in your niche, setting up seminars and so on. All these are very possible so long as you believe in yourself and you have chosen a niche that you are passionate about or know a lot about.

You can become an expert overnight if you want to and start charging a lot of money by applying the ‘funnel’ theory to your marketing and promoting a series of products. You are probably an expert in something already and don’t even realise it. Fishing? Golf? Ice skating? Shakespeare? Come on there’s bound to be something.

Remember these three rules:

- People can be coaxed but not driven

- Whatever they do they do to please themselves

- Please people by ‘serving’ them not by ‘selling’ to them

The easiest way to make money online is to sell something. But, ‘I don’t have anything to sell’, I hear you shout. Then create an information product. With the wonder of the internet and modern technology now is the time to be getting involved before this amazing opportunity passes you by.

Today, I’m going to breakdown the process of how to create an information product into its raw elements so you fully understand how professional marketers become online millionaires virtually overnight. Follow this process and you could be the next one.

The Four Stages To Create An Information Product

There are four stages to the process of creating information products online:

Strategy

Synthesise

Systemise

Sell

Strategy – your strategy is simple. Create an information product with a high perceived value. Start by defining your passions, what do you love to learn? What do you love to teach?  Next, decide how you want to serve others – ebook, audio, DVD, home study course, etc.

Synthesise – start by knowing the customer. To do this you need to ask yourself the following questions:

Who needs my information?

Who can I create information for?

Who can I serve?

What problems need solving?

Who is your customer?

How can I add more value?

To help you understand and build rapport with your potential customers think of how the following statements apply to the prospects in your chosen niche. If you can answer these questions you’re well on your way to creating an info product that will fly:

Most of my prospects feel they are falling short in this area…???

Most of my prospects have no idea of how to…???

Most of my prospects have the goal to…???

Most of my prospects deeply value…???

Most of my prospects are terrified that…???

Finding The Information To Create An Information Product

To help you get information about the demographics of your customer you can use web sites like quantcast.com or media seeker.

Next you need to pinpoint what your customer specifically needs. The best way to do this is to post questions on forums such as yahoo, asking questions, such as, “what frustrates you most about….?”

After getting to know your customer’s needs the next thing you have to do is assess the competition. Very few people can be bothered to do this, therefore, if you do, you can dominate the niche. Do this by asking yourself the following questions:

What are your customers’ choices?

What problems are they being told they have?

What solutions are already being offered?

What format are the solutions being delivered in?

How are they sold?

What are the common benefits they are being told they’ll get?

What bonuses are being offered?

What price points are they being sold?

Summarise – next you need to summarise the content of your research. Ask yourself these four questions:

What are the fundamental five to seven points the ‘experts’ are saying in your niche?

What are the five to ten lessons you have learned that your customers should know?

What are the FAQ’s of your customers?

What ten questions should your customers be asking?

Using just those four simple questions you could create a manual / audio / DVD information product set to sell. For example this would work well in the personal growth / self help niche.

DVD One – Fundamentals

DVD Two – Your story, deliver a solution in your own words with your own slant and include details of your own experience in it.

DVD Three – FAQs – tell the customer they’ll probably have some questions

DVD Four – The next step the customer needs to take.

Every website owner needs to build a blog. I’m not talking about a diary or something where you need to make daily long winded rants about your topic. If you build a blog it will keep your website fresh and ads size. Which are two qualities Google holds highly.

When you build a blog, it gives you a chance to further describe the benefits of your products and services. Even showcasing past customers and their success stories with the products you are promoting.

If you build a blog and add fresh content to your site once a week you’ll constantly pick up new keywords in Google. After a couple of months it starts adding up and you start getting quite a steady flow of new free visitors to your site.

It doesn’t have to be long winded either. Sometimes you can just find a related video on You tube, post it to your blog, and share an opinion on the video.

The best part is now your visitors can start interacting with you.

On every blog post you should find some way to ask a question or just ask them to comment with their opinion. Now you’ve got an active dialogue going with your visitors. This will help build rapport and also let you know more about what they like and don’t like. Honestly, this is invaluable.

I use Odesk for all my freelancer needs. You can get a blog installed and setup for under $50 using these guys. Make sure you read their reviews though so you pick someone good and not a fraud!

2.)  Learn how to do it yourself via reading a few blog posts and watching some videos.

You tube has tons of videos on how to build a blog.

Listen, this is very important, I know you might feel a little flustered or overwhelmed but a lot is riding on this. And if you are comfortable with setting up a blog all the more power.

Literally tens of thousands of dollars are resting on whether or not you add this muscle builder to your website.

Making your blog popular will drive more and more business your way each month.

Article marketing continues to be an effective and popular way to market a product while building a rapport with your potential customer. And that’s probably because it works for a lot of people!

Writing an article to market a product through blogs posts and article directories helps improve visibility on search engines. Through writing an article, you can add credibility to yourself as an author and to your site. Using article marketing, helps you to get website traffic and improves conversion rates.

Writing An Article Tips

Here are several tips you can use when writing an article to give you the maximum benefit that article marketing can bring:

1) Choose a topic that’s important to your target market.

A way to capture the attention of potential customers is to give them information that they need. Find out what your target market needs. You can use this as a guide in selecting good topics that you can use when writing an article.

2) Create an eye-catching title.

We all know how important first impressions are. The title of your article is often the first encounter that your readers will
have of your article. (It’s usually the title that shows up on search results.)

Make sure it’s eye catching by making it relevant to your readers. Remember, it’s all about what’s in it for them. What benefit will they receive from clicking on the title and reading the article.

3) Make your first paragraph interesting.

Once you’ve caught their attention with the title, keep them interested with your opening paragraph. Just like the title, the first few sentences of your first paragraph is often published as the summary of your article.

An effective first paragraph must IMMEDIATELY address the concerns of the potential customer and reflect the general points of the article. If it doesn’t give them the short answer to the problem posed in the title, it should at least give them an idea how you intend to show them the solution.

4) Keep your sentences simple.

When writing an article, your aim is to communicate, not to impress. It’s easier to read and to absorb information when the sentences are short and construction is simple.

This is what makes bullet points really popular. It makes use of short sentences and it immediately gives the reader the information that he or she needs.

5) Show your personality.

Don’t be afraid to add a personal touch when writing an article. This makes your article welcoming. Using a friendly, conversational tone is more appealing to potential customers than technical texts.

6) Be direct and eliminate unnecessary words.

Avoid stuffing your articles with fluff words. The article doesn’t need to be long. What’s more important is to keep the content relevant and focused.

7) Include searchable keywords.

As much as possible, use keywords in your title and article body. But don’t overuse your keywords! If you repeat the keywords too many times in your article, the search engines will think that you are keyword spamming and penalize your article.

When the search engines visit your new content, they send what is known as a ‘spider’ or a ‘robot’ to ascertain exactly what the content is about.

By doing so, they are able to index your site or your content piece under the correct search category.

It is generally agreed that Yahoo, MSN and most of the other search engines look at ‘keyword density’ to establish the subject of your content.

In effect, if a particular term or phrase makes up a certain percentage of your article, they assume that the phrase in question is the primary subject of the article or site content.

Why Is Google Using Latent Semantic Indexing?

Google do things differently. Instead, Google rely on what is known as latent semantic indexing (LSI), which is a system based on the idea that certain words and phrases go together.

For example, if you were to write an article about Microsoft, it is logical that you would probably include the name of Bill Gates somewhere in it.

Latent semantic indexing works on exactly this principle of certain words being associated with one another naturally which is in fact very similar to the way human beings understand language as well.

And of course, the free Google traffic estimator keyword research tool gives you all of these related phrases that they see as being linked to your main keyword phrase.

Thus, by using the Google research tool, you not only expand your keyword list but you also have the exact phrases that they would expect you to include to support your primary keywords.

In essence, Google are giving you a list of the Latent Semantic Indexing terms that they would look for in any article related to your primary keyword term, so include these support terms in your articles.

Should You Be Using Latent Semantic Indexing?

If you haven’t been using Latent Semantic Indexing in your content, I suggest that now is the time to implement it if you want to improve your Google ranking for your chosen keywords. Having a strong list is one great way to inspire affiliate sales, but it isn’t the only method you can use. Affiliate marketers get a lot of mileage from well-built review sites.  Offering reviews of products and providing affiliate links to their sales pages is a great way to drive qualified and targeted traffic to a sales letter.

Review Sites Basics

Review sites exists primarily to house reviews of products within a particular niche.  Every individual product can be profiled at length, supplying readers with a good look at the benefits and features of items and a strong on-balance assessment of their utility.

Review sites work because they provide valuable information. They also attract the kind of people who are ready to make purchases, as review site visitors are shoppers, not just lookers. Additionally, review sites tend to become thick with content, eventually making them magnets for search engine traffic.

Do you have to be an affiliate for every product reviewed?  Do you need to disclose your affiliation with some products?  Should every review be positive?

The answers to those questions will depend on your own preferences and the state of current governing rules regarding marketing.  I advocate honest review sites that feature full disclosure, but others will argue in favor of other approaches. The important thing to remember is that well-designed review sites featuring strong product assessments will produce affiliate sales.
