Well it's been a crazy year. I have not been able to work on my internet business for some time. I have been very distracted by personal events and a crazy year at work. There's is no time like the present to start focusing on my personal goals and start to more clearly and succintly define my business goals.

As I refllect on the past years I am a bit embarassed by my choices. I took too many shortcuts and it is reflected my the bust of my first few websites. I have learned alot but what is frustrating is the apparent repeating of my poor lessons/choices. I remember researching at creating a business plan and making a marketing plan to compliment it. However, I realized that there is so much more to starting an internet business.

I thought I would jot down some basic plans for the near future.

Establish a web presence
Create a stream of revenue
Expert status
Branding
Loyalty
Traffic Generation/Analytics
Conversions (i.e. newsletter subscriptions, sales, leads, etc)

Obviously, these are not goals yet because they are not specific enough, nor do they meet the s.m.a.r.t. criteria

Measurable

Attainable

Realistic

Time-bound

I will have to work on each one specifically in the near future.

Tag and pinging your blog posts has never been easier. I recently read a great report from Edwin Brian from Edwinsoft.com and the Bookmarking Demon software.

Obviously you'll need some content and I will leave that up to you. According to Edwin Brian, the first step you need to do is tag and ping your Blog Posts

Daniel here. I recently came across and interesting web monetization program from the makers of the Blinkx video submission service. It is called the AdHoc program. This web monetization strategy entails you the viewer to first sign up for the program and then submit a video. Here on this page, you would say insert the embed code for one of your favourite YouTube websites. Then, you would either select the radio button to select one of two options; to show ads within the video or to show Blinkx's AdHoc ads served outside the video. After pressing the next button, you will be taken to a webpage that contains a sample of the video with the embed code for yor website or blog post.

Below is a sample of one of my first Blinkx embed code for Brad Callen's Affiliate Elite Video from YouTube.com. This video was selected with the 'show ads within the video'.

Social Bookmarking Resource

I recently came across two really cool websites that submit your social bookmarks to various online social bookmarking services. This is often referred to as a submission service.

The first one I have just signed up for was OnlyWire.com and the other is a service from eKstreme called the socializer. So this begs the question as to just what is "the Socializer"?

The Socializer allows you to easily submit a link to several social bookmarking systems. Instead of having a link to each social bookmarking website, you have a single link to all of them!

The Socializer is a free web service from eKstreme.com.

So what about Onlywire?

Onlywire permits its users to submit various articles, posts or unique, keyword-rich, web pages to a avariety of social bookmarking site and search engines all at once. Submitting to these various engines is just one of the best ways to drive traffic to your web site. Bloggers, Weblogs, Writing Posts and ....Pinging? What's Pinging?

Objective: this post will briefly discuss the subject of "pinging".
Maybe you are a seasoned Blogger, or perhaps you have several weblogs or blogs. Have you ever heard of pinging? I have been blogging and writing weblogs or blogs for about a year now. I only recently heard of the term, pinging. Have you? I have never heard the term pinging before until I started researching the whole web 2.0 phenomena.

Definition of a Ping
A "Ping" is actually a piece of software or program that verifies that an actual IP (internet protocol) address actually exits. A ping could also be considered a program command to ensure that a particular IP address can accept a request from another computer on the world wide web. In technical terms, a ping is like a diagnostic tool used by a techie to determine if the host computer that is being attempted to reach by another computer is functioning and operating.

For example, if you attempted to "ping" another computer and you could not reach the desired host computer, that it could be reasoned that the user would not be able to use the file transfer protocol to send files to the host server. A ping also determines the length of time it takes to get a response from the host computer.

Examples
In layperson terms, one could think of a ping as a method of getting the attention of another on the world wide web or to check ones address or presence of another online. A ping sends a packet of to an IP address and then waits for a response and the time it takes to receive that response. In comparison, think of a ping is to the computer and bloggers as sonar signals are to a submarine. Or in terms of email marketing, you could also liken the term "pinging" as the process of sending out a promotion email to your list members, and just like selecting the "send receipt" command in the 'options' tab of your favourite email program, you automatically receive a verification message the moment the email has arrived in the list members inbox.

Pinging and Blogging
The verb ping means the act of using the ping utility or command. So when when a blogger pings his or her blog, they are using a web utility service that automatically scans for updates and publishes your most recent post on your weblog. There are some services that perform this service automatically once you have updated your blog. For example, once you have finished a post on your blog, you should let a Pinging service know that you have updated your blog. In order to perform this task a blogger requires ping the service. As a matter of fact, most of the content management services like a blogging platform have the the ability to ping on their own. It should be noted that attempting to ping a dozen such services could be extremely time consuming.

The world of the internet is one of constant change, and RSS feeds and blogs are two of the newest and most exciting opportunities for garnering additional AdSense revenue.

RSS, short for Really Simple Syndication, has been gaining enormous popularity on the internet,and more and more webmasters are including RSS feeds on their site. RSS is an XML document format used to store and organize news typecontent from various places into one easy source. RSS is somewhat similar to what newswires do, or to the crawler that appears at thebottom of many newscasts and 24 hour cable news channels.

Many ofthe news items found on the typical news web site may have comethrough RSS feeds. Google now has a program targeted directly at RSS. This program is known as AdSense for RSS and it offers a number of interesting options for making an additional revenue stream. It is important to note that specific policies apply to this program, and all guidelines must be followed in order to derive any benefit fromthis new program. In addition to RSS, blogs provide yet another potential stream of revenue.

Blogs are in some ways similar to RSS feeds except that these blogs generally have one author instead of the many sourcesused to create the RSS feeds. Blogs, or web logs, are simple websites where users can write content, articles and opinion pieces onvirtually any subject. Users access these types of resources to share stories, pictures and opinions. The public at large is invited to view this content and in many cases provide additional comments as well. All this content of course means that they can be a prime sourcefor targeted AdSense ads. In fact it can be easier to generaterevenue from AdSense using blogs than using traditional web pages,in theory anyway.

Blogs have a number of important advantages over traditional websites when it comes to generating AdSense revenue and getting viewers to click on those ads. For one thing blogs are rich in content, and most of that content is original. In addition, the content is generally friendly both in terms of human visitors and in terms of Google's search algorithms. This can make it easierfor a bog site to be approved for participation in Google's AdSense program. In addition, Google's AdSense program works best with those websites that have already been indexed by Google. Since blogs are indexed much more easily indexed than traditional web pages it iseasier for Google AdSense to target ads more effectively as thecontent changes. In addition to all these advantages, blogs can be created must morecost effectively than traditional web sites, making them a goodchoice for a first foray into the world of Google AdSense.
