Using a cell phone as one's "one and only" phone service is perfect for many folks – unless they have a business on the side or want to make international calls. In this case, a second phone is required (for a business), and international calling rates are extremely expensive using mobile phone services.

Finally – there is a solution! Internet phone service provider Voip.com has now perfected a new voip service designed specifically for mobile phone users. Called "Mobile Line 2", this service is essentially internet phone service for cell phones!

Requirements for Mobile Line 2

To use Mobile Line 2, subscribers must currently have a cell phone data plan, and must be using a Blackberry (O/S 4.0 or higher), a Windows smartphone (with Pocket PC 5.0 or higher), or a java-based phone. When you subscribe to the service, a small application is downloaded and installed on the cell phone. This application enables the phone for a second phone number (area code of your choice) which is provided via Voip.com. Along with the second phone number, you get a separate voicemail box.

Reasons to use Cell Phone Voip

So why would anyone want a second phone number on their cell phone? For starters, Voip.com's international long distance rates are among the cheapest in the industry. With rates starting as low as 1.2 cents per minute, many callers save up to 99% off of mobile international calling rates. If you make any international calls at all, you can save a ton of money by adding Mobile Line 2 to your cell phone.

Another great reason to add a second number to your cell phone is that it's a great way to keep two separate identities while using only one device. For business owners, a second number on the cell phone is much more professional. For people who want to separate their private life from work, a second phone number is the ideal choice.

The Mobile Line 2 number can be from any area code you wish, so adding this service could greatly benefit someone with friends and relatives in two separate locations. Callers won't have to make a long distance call to keep in touch.

How it Works

Once you've installed Mobile Line 2 you'll see an option on your phone that allows you to switch between phone numbers when making calls. When receiving calls, you'll also see which line the call is coming in on. It's just as easy to check voice mails from both phone numbers.

How Much Does it Cost?

There are two Mobile Line 2 plans currently offered by Voip.com. For occasional users, a 200 minute per month plan is available for $9.95/month. This includes any calls within the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico. For "power users", an unlimited plan is available for $24.95/month.

More Information

Internet phone service for mobile phones is an interesting option for many people. Here's where to find out more about Voip.com Mobile Line 2 or to subscribe.

If you do choose to subscribe, be sure to use the Voip.com promo code LUCKY. This helps me make a few dollars, and also gets you any special deals currently available to folks who are referred through affiliate partners. Incidentally, starting August 3 you can try Mobile Line 2 free for 30 days! If you think voip for cell phones might be for you, now is the time to give it a test!

Save More Money with VoIP.com

In these tough economic times, it’s important to save money any way you can. Unfortunately, many times “saving money” or “cutting costs” means learning to “do without”. Long distance calling is something that many have had to cut back on in order to save some money.

Many cable companies and phone companies now offer “unlimited long distance” services at the reasonable price of $30 - $40 per month. I know several people who have switched to “bundled” packages commonly offered through cable providers or local phone companies. These package deals typically include unlimited calling, internet service and/or television service for one low 12 month “promotional” price. Paying $30 for unlimited calling is pretty reasonable ( the price will go up after the initial promo period, so keep an eye on your bill!), but compared to $16.58 a month it doesn’t sound so reasonable any more.

VoIP.com offers unlimited calling within the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico for a fraction of what cable companies charge. I have used VoIP.com internet phone service for nearly a year now, and am 100% pleased with the quality as well as the money savings! Two plans are available for residential phone service – a monthly plan for $19.95 a month and an annual plan for $199 a year (paid up front). The biggest cost savings are seen with the annual plan, which works out to $16.58 a month for unlimited calling!

If you are currently paying $30 - $40 per month for unlimited phone service, switching to the VoIP.com annual plan will save you $13.42 - $23.42 per month, or $161 - $281 per year. Although this is not enough extra money to take a nice vacation, it will help pay for gas and groceries! These days, every little bit helps!

To get more information on VoIP.com, or to sign up. Because of the nature of VoIP, it is not uncommon to hear background noise or to have your calls drop in mid-conversation. Fortunately, these issues are easily resolved yourself with a simple reset of your VoIP adapter or your home network.

Unlike traditional land line phone service, internet phone calls do not travel from point to point over reliable phone cabling. Internet phone call data packets can travel over hundreds of thousands of miles of Ethernet and fiber cabling as they bounce through the “cloud” known as the world wide web. These packets are routed from switch to switch and may travel half way around the world before they arrive at their destination (which may be just down your street). Your VoIP adapter and internet modem hand off and receive these data packets, and sometimes this equipment gets “out of whack” and needs to be “refreshed” in order to work in a more efficient manner.

Just like a restart “cures” most computer problems, restarting your home network equipment will “cure” most VoIP problems. Here’s what I do when my VoIP service isn’t acting the way I want it to:

Restart Your VoIP Adapter

Most of the time, you can fix any problems associated with your internet phone service by simply restarting your VoIP router. Just unplug the power adapter from the device and wait 30 seconds. Then plug it back in and give it a minute or two to set up. Make a phone call to test and see if this has fixed the problem. In my experience, this “trick” solves the problem about 90% of the time. If you still have issues with your VoIP service after this restart, it’s time to reset your entire home network.

Restart Your Home Network

If restarting your internet phone adapter doesn’t fix the issues you are experiencing with your VoIP service, a restart of all networking devices is likely necessary. You need to restart your VoIP adapter and your internet modem, as well as all switches and routers you may have. Because all these devices need information from each other in order to work together properly, it’s important to restart this equipment in the proper order.

The first thing to do is unplug your VoIP adapter and internet modem, as well as any switches or routers. You will also want to turn off any computers that are connected to your network. It doesn’t really matter in what order you turn off the equipment, but it does matter in which order you restart it!

When all networking equipment is off, begin restarting in the following order.

1 – Plug in your internet router and wait until all LED lights quit blinking rapidly.

2 – Plug in your router (if you have one) and wait until all lights quit blinking.

3 – Plug in your switch (if you have one)

4 – Plug in your VoIP adapter and wait a minute or so for it to set up.

You should now be able to make internet phone calls and access the internet without any problems. You have refreshed your entire network and should have corrected any problems you were having with your broadband phone service.

Looking for a VoIP provider?

If you are looking for an internet phone service provider, I recommend Voip.com or Packet8. Both companies are financially stable and offer decent service at a really reasonable price. I have personally used both of these VoIP providers and have been very satisfied with them.

For more information on VoIP service, visit: to Voip.com internet phone service in order to show my confidence in this up and coming VoIP company. I had my Packet8 service for well over 2 years, and have had nothing but praise for them. Now it’s time to try a new VoIP provider for the sake of experience!

I ordered the Voip.com annual unlimited plan ($199 a year, paid up front) on August 23. The online signup process was super easy and quick. Within an hour or so I had a welcome email from Voip.com, and another email followed shortly with my online account credentials and new phone number. I was pretty impressed with the ease and efficiency of the signup process.

While waiting for my voip adapter to arrive, I emailed Voip.com and asked them when I could expect delivery. After a couple of days I received a reply letting me know that they were experiencing a bit of a delay in getting equipment shipped, but that I could begin using the free softphone any time. I downloaded and installed the softphone, plugged in my headset microphone and started making calls. Very easy!

The Voip.com router arrived on September 4; 12 days after ordering (actually only 6 business days since labor Day was in there). It came with a network cable, power supply and an easy to understand “one page” guide to installation.

Installation was super quick and easy, and I was literally up and running in less than 5 minutes. I simply connected the network cable from the Voip adapter to an open port on my home network router, plugged in the device and had a dial tone! The Voip.com adapter is connected to a Uniden cordless base unit, which serves as the “mother ship” to two cordless expansion phones. This gives me the ability to make free unlimited long distance VoIP calls from all the phones in my home!

Call quality is pretty good, although a bit scratchy at times. This is acceptable to me because I know that it’s not normal to get crystal clear reception all the time with an IP phone. This is just the nature of the beast. Part of the problem may be my internet cabling in the house. It’s an older home that is exposed to salt air, and I had to install an amplifier on my HDTV jack because the cables are obviously degraded a bit.

So far, I am totally satisfied with my Voip.com unlimited phone service. I’m really happy with the price J. For less than $17 a month I can talk as long as I want to anyone I want! This is an $8 a month savings over my old Packet8 monthly plan, which saves me an additional $96 a year.

If you are interested in saving money on your phone bill, you owe it to yourself to look into Voip.com. Although I have been happy with Packet8 for over two years, I figured that since I’ve been praising Voip.com for the past couple of months now that it was time to “put my money where my mouth is”. I don’t like to recommend anything that I am not using myself, so I’m joining all you voip.com subscribers now!

Voip.com really showed up on the radar mid July after the Sunrocket closure. With a comparable $199 a year plan, this VoIP company was a “natural fit” for ex-Sunrocket subscribers who needed a quick alternative for low cost internet phone service. Most of these new subscribers turned out to be happy customers, but many cancelled service shortly after signing up due to delays and problems….

Initial Issues with Voip.com

For a couple of weeks after the Sunrocket closure,Voip.com took in thousands of new subscribers, and their business nearly quadrupled in size overnight. Unfortunately, the unexpected tremendous growth in business caused some major problems for this VoIP provider. Their call center was overwhelmed with Sunrocket subscribers who needed new VoIP service FAST, and they had to quickly hire a lot of new customer service personnel to meet the demand. Customers experienced extremely long “hold” times, and then had to deal with inexperienced employees when they finally did get through.

To make matters worse, Voip.com ran out of routers and could not meet the demand. They found another supplier right away, but not soon enough to avoid 2-3 week delays in getting new customers their equipment. One of the large shipments of Linksys routers was discovered to be defective after customers finally got them and couldn’t establish VoIP service. Many new subscribers also got frustrated due to delays in phone number porting – a problem that was totally out of VoIP.com’s control (the quickness of phone number transfers is totally in the hands of the third party carrier who “owns” the number).

Just as things were starting to get back to “normal” with Voip.com, another VoIP carrier (Allo.com) went out of business. This brought another unexpected surge in business to Voip.com, and another set of problems (although not as massive as the growth caused by Sunrocket a couple weeks prior).

Voip.com Meets the Challenge

Today, things are getting settled down with this new “big” VoIP provider. Although there are still many new subscribers who are waiting for phone number porting, and still some issues regarding a backlog of trouble tickets, Voip.com has pretty much overcome the issues that were caused by the sudden increase in business. The new customer service people are now more knowledgeable, and response time is much quicker. The majority of router issues have been resolved, and “frustrated” new customers are now becoming “satisfied” customers. Voip.com is issuing credit or extensions on the free month of service to customers who have been billed for service that they couldn’t receive due to delays and problems.

I’m a Believer in Voip.com

I have been following Voip.com for the past couple of months, and have been communicating regularly with a contact there. Although I realize and understand the difficulties that customers have faced, I also see what Voip.com is doing “behind the scenes” to resolve all issues as quickly and efficiently as possible. They have literally been working around the clock to “fix” everything that is broken and to build a Voip company that is better able to handle “big league” business. When you think about it, it’s only been five weeks since their business unexpectedly skyrocketed. In my opinion, this company has done an awesome job of meeting their challenges head on in an effort to meet customer needs.

When Sunrocket closed, over 200,000 people suddenly flooded the VoIP marketplace looking for a quick replacement. All the best VoIP providers took in a huge share of new business due to this event, and my guess is that every one of them had similar “growth related” problems to deal with.

I’ve Signed Up

I have a lot of confidence in Voip.com and signed up for service late last week. The signup process was quick and easy, and I received an email within an hour letting me know my new phone number (I’m not porting my number, I’m getting a new one). I was also given access to the user interface on the web to manage my VoIP account (features, voicemail, etc…). Although I haven’t received my router yet ( I was told it would be 5-7 days), I’m ready for it as soon as it arrives because I’ve already set up my account options and voicemail. For me, everything is great so far with my Voip.com experience and I’m looking forward to my service with them.

If you’re interested in learning more about Voip.com, or are ready to sign up – here is the website. Use Voip.com promotional code LUCKY to ensure you get to take advantage of the latest offers (I think it’s a $30 rebate right now). By using this promo code, you will also be letting them know I referred you. In the event you have trouble getting an issue resolved, you can let me know and I’ll be happy to look into it for you via my contact with this company. Just leave me a comment with your name, account number and description of the problem and I’ll pass it along (don’t worry, I won’t publish your information).

Growing Pains for Voip.com

Voip.com is an internet phone service company based in Florida. They offer a $199 a year unlimited plan that was a natural fit for Sunrocket customers who had a similar plan. When Sunrocket went out of business a few weeks ago, so many people flocked to Voip.com for service that Voip.com had difficulties keeping up with the demand.

Initially, Voip.com did not have enough customer service people to handle the large influx of new business. They quickly hired more people, who are still in the “training” phase. Many people have commented that Voip.com customer service people cannot answer all their questions or help them with issues – I think the reason is that there are a lot of new people.

Many people have also made comment that it is taking a long time to receive equipment. Initially Voip.com ran out of routers (their business more than doubled overnight due to Sunrocket closure), and couldn’t meet the demand. They quickly found a new supplier, but this situation created a 1-2 week delay.

Voip.com starts its billing process as soon as the order for Voip service is placed. They have always done it this way, as do most VoIP providers. Ordinarily this does not cause a problem, as the first 30 days of service are free and the equipment (under normal circumstances) ships out immediately. Due to the delay in getting equipment to customers however, many people are upset because they are getting billed for service that they don’t even have yet. Voip.com is aware of this, and is making good by either issuing a credit to the account or extending the “free trial” period.

Now it turns out that a lot of the new routers that were shipped to Voip.com customers are bad. This is not Voip.com’s fault, as the problem is due to improper firmware configuration at the manufacturer. Although I’m certain Voip.com will do everything they can to get these bad routers fixed or replaced as quickly as possible, I know there is little that can be done to console the folks affected by this problem.

A lot of people who subscribed to Voip.com service are now thinking of disconnecting due to recent problems regarding delays, billing and/or customer service. It’s understandable that folks are a little suspicious of VoIP companies these days, particularly after the Sunrocket and Allo.com closures. Although I don’t have any firsthand knowledge of this, I’ll bet other VoIP providers who “grew” suddenly following Sunrockets closing are having similar difficulties. When a business unexpectedly doubles or triples overnight, there is just no way everything will go smoothly.

Voip.com is Here to Stay

Although the past weeks have been difficult ones for the folks at Voip.com, they have been working around the clock to fix problems, “stop the bleeding”, and attempt to satisfy all customers. Believe it or not, they appear to be doing everything they can to get business back to a “normal” level as quickly as possible.

In addition to catching up with the unexpected growth in business, Voip.com is working on new products and services. Later this year we will see Voip.com enter the business VoIP market with an amazing new product. They will also soon roll out some incredible pricing on international long distance services. Voip.com is establishing a solid foothold in the broadband phone service market, and they are positioning themselves for a bright and secure future.

Voip.com is a financially stable company with a commitment to lead the field in the area of residential and small business VoIP services. As soon as the problems resulting from the Sunrocket “storm surge” is over, you will see what a great company this is!!!

Voip.com Routers Bad

Today I heard from a contact at Voip.com that they have just learned that a large shipment of Linksys routers turned out to be bad. Allo.com will only process requests to port phone numbers through August 31.

The good news is that Voip.com is fully prepared to request and manage your allo.com phone number transfer immediately. Number porting can take a few weeks, as the speed of this process is totally dependent on how quick the current carrier releases the number. It sounds like allo.com is committed to releasing numbers as quick as possible, as it is evident that they want to get totally out of the VoIP business by the end of this month. There may be a lot of third party carriers associated with allo.com phone numbers though (Sunrocket had 16 third party carriers), so you may have to patiently wait a short while.

Voip.com is one of the best broadband phone service providers in the telecommunications industry today. They rose to the challenge of taking on many thousands of new subscribers recently, when Sunrocket customers were also suddenly left without phone service. Voip.com knows what they’re doing with VoIP service, and they understand how important it is to you to get your phone number ported and new service activated as quickly as possible.

If you’re looking for a new VoIP company to replace your allo.com service, Voip.com is my recommendation. They are a financially stable company who maintains their own in-house development and support staff. They don’t farm out their services to third parties like so many VoIP providers do. As a result, their customer satisfaction rate is high and the quality of VoIP service is outstanding!

Voip.com has 2 unlimited plans ($199/year annual plan or $19.95/month monthly plan) and also a 200 minute a month plan for $9.99/month. All plans come with free softphone service, which allows you to take your VoIP service with you when you travel. Voip.com offers more free calling features than any other VoIP provider. In addition, they also have really cheap international long distance rates.

When you sign up for Voip.com service, use the Voip.com promo code (coupon code) LUCKY. This will let them know that I referred you, and will also ensure that you get the latest promotional offering.

VoIP Provider Allo.com is Dead!

To the surprise and shock of many subscribers, internet phone service provider Allo.com has suddenly ceased operations. According to forum posts by subscribers, Allo sent out an email to subscribers informing them that they would be ceasing operations August 1.

This comes on the heels of the recent Sunrocket shutdown, which also occurred with little warning just a couple of weeks ago – causing hundreds of thousands of subscribers to scramble to find replacement VoIP service.

There is a post on the main page of the allo.com website now, which states that they are discontinuing all services on August 2, 2007. Apparently Allo will continue to sell hardware, but no longer provide internet phone service.

Allo is urging all customers to find a new VoIP provider immediately, but does not recommend any particular provider. Here is what they say:

“We urge each and every customer that has not signed up with a new service provider to do so immediately. Please do not delay, as services are being discontinued and will be permanently shut down no later than August 2nd, 2007.”

Allo is in process of refunding money to customers, thankfully!

Allo Customers Need to Find a Replacement Voip Provider ASAP

Allo.com customers must now quickly find a new broadband phone service provider, especially if they want to keep their existing phone number. Allo indicates that they will only process requests for porting (LNP) through August 31. This means Allo customers must sign with a new VoIP provider ASAP, as the number porting process can take a few weeks sometimes.

Recommended VoIP Provider as a Replacement for Allo.com: Voip.com

I strongly recommend Voip.com as a preferred VoIP provider for Allo customers. This is a financially stable company that offers a great $199/year “all inclusive” unlimited plan. When I say “all inclusive”, it means that you will never see another bill again for an entire year. Most providers offering an annual plan will continue to bill you each month for “taxes and fees” – but not Voip.com!

Many thousands of Sunrocket customers subscribed with Voip.com immediately following the Sunrocket shutdown a couple of weeks ago. Voip.com’s telephone lines were swamped, and they rose to the challenge by quickly hiring and training many new people and making a lot of innovative systems changes in order to meet customer needs and deliver exceptional service. This is a company that delivers satisfaction, and one that truly cares about it’s customers.

You can read my review of Voip.com here, or simply go to the Voip.com website to sign up for service. In addition, you can also call them directly to ask questions and/or sign up. Their phone number is 800-879-8647. Be sure to use Voip.com promo code LUCKY. Calling cards offer pretty good international rates, but it is often cumbersome to use them.

For people who make frequent or occasional international calls, the most cost effective method is VoIP. If you’ve never heard of VoIP, or want to learn more about this amazing technology that can easily save you 50% or more on your phone bill, read on….

What is VoIP?

This acronym stands for “Voice Over Internet Protocol”, and is the technical term for Internet Phone Service. It is also commonly referred to as “broadband phone service”, IP Phone Service” or “Digital Phone Service”.

What are the Requirements of VoIP?

The only thing required is a broadband internet connection. This is also referred to as “high speed” internet. Although VoIP will work well over DSL (high speed internet that is usually offered through your phone company), the recommended broadband connection is cable internet or T-1 service. Most telephone companies require you to maintain phone service when you subscribe to their high speed DSL internet. Since VoIP is designed to replace traditional phone service, you come out better off financially if you switch to cable or T-1 internet. Once you’ve got your internet phone service installed, you can then disconnect your “land line” phone service.

What is the Price of VoIP Internet Phone Service?

Most VoIP providers charge between $19.95 a month to $24.95 a month for unlimited local and long distance calling. A few VoIP companies offer “annual” unlimited VoIP plans that you can get for $199 a year (paid up front). An annual plan is the best value for your money! Unlimited internet phone service plans include an unlimited amount of free calls within the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

What About Cheap International Long Distance Calls?

All of the best VoIP providers have super cheap international rates. These international long distance rates are lower than any other type of service. Rates vary by VoIP provider, depending on the country you call, so compare VoIP providers’ rates before subscribing to ensure you get the best possible deal. International calls are billed separately on a per-minute basis. The rates are so low, you’ll be amazed at how long you can talk for so little money!

Who are the Best VoIP Providers for International Calling?

It’s important to subscribe with a VoIP provider that is known for financial stability, quality of service and excellent technical and customer support. My recommendations include:

Voip.com – For people who make a lot of long distance calls within the US, Canada and/or Puerto Rico, the Voip.com annual plan is an exceptional value at $199 a year (less than $17 a month). This is an “all inclusive” fee, meaning there are no monthly charges for “taxes and fees”. Voip.com offers some of the lowest international long distance rates around, and you get a free softphone. A softphone is really nice for people who travel, as it allows you to make and receive calls on your laptop.

Packet8 – If you make international calls to Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Moscow-Central, Moscow-Suburb, St. Petersburg, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, and Singapore, Chile, Sao Paulo, Caracas, Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara, Israel, the U.S. Virgin Islands, or Guam – the Packet8 Freedom Unlimited Global plan is the best deal. This plan costs $29.99 a month and provides unlimited free international calling to any of these countries.

How Do I Find Out More About VoIP?

For starters, visit my newest website – Cheap International Calling Choices. Here you will find out everything you want to know about internet phone service, in addition to recommended VoIP providers for international calling. You can compare VoIP providers’ rates and features as well as learn how to install and use VoIP.

Issues Regarding Sunrocket Phone Number Porting

According to recent forum and blog posts, a lot of Sunrocket subscribers who have found an alternative VoIP company are still waiting for their Sunrocket phone number to be ported. This, understandably, is making people really nervous because they don’t want to be without phone service.

I want to assure you that the ability of a new VoIP provider to port a Sunrocket number is really out of their control. Please don’t blame your new VoIP carrier – it’s not their fault. Here’s how the whole “number porting” process works, as I understand it:

First of all, the FCC mandates that a request for phone number transfer be completed within 30 days of the request. This means that the current carrier has one month to release the phone number.

When you sign up for new internet phone service and request that your current number be transferred, the new VoIP company submits a request to the current carrier to release the number. This starts the “30 day time clock”. The speed of phone number porting is now in the hands of the current carrier. Once they have released the number for transfer, the new VoIP provider can “activate” service. It seems that some carriers are quick about releasing a Sunrocket phone number for transfer, while others are not so quick….

According to a contact at Voip.com (a leading alternative to Sunrocket), Sunrocket had 16 third party carriers. This explains why some Sunrocket subscribers have reported that their number was ported within a few days, while others are still waiting for the porting to occur. If you are one of those who are still “waiting”, rest assured with the knowledge that this transfer WILL (must) happen within 30 days. I realize that this information doesn’t “fix” the problem, but I hope that an understanding of what has to happen “behind the scenes” helps lessen the anxiety.

There is nothing your new VoIP provider wants more than to “activate” new service, and they cannot do that until a request for phone number transfer has been completed. So if you are still waiting for your Sunrocket phone number to port, I guarantee that as soon as the number has been released to your new VoIP provider, you will be notified immediately!

If you are still looking for an alternative to Sunrocket, I highly recommend Voip.com. They are a solid company with outstanding technical support and phenomenal pricing on VoIP plans. If you subscribe, be sure to use Voip.com promo code LUCKY.

A contact at Voip.com confirms that they are still “crazy-busy” signing up thousands of new customers as a result of the Sunrocket shutdown earlier this week. They have hired many new phone support people this week and have been working round the clock training them in an effort to ensure no customer gets left behind.

A comment on my blog earlier indicated that the auto-attendant Voip.com is using to help handle the influx of people calling in to subscribe is not flexible enough to handle everyone’s needs. Apparently there are limited options on the auto-attendant – allowing for only two choices of Voip service. I forwarded this concern to Voip.com and was told that this auto-attendant is brand new (installed this week to help keep up with heavy call volume) and is obviously not perfect yet. I was assured that they are working on the issue, as their number one goal is to keep all customers satisfied. The auto-attendant was installed in an effort to decrease “hold” time, as lines are really long this week.

If you want to sign up for Voip.com internet phone service right now, you may want to handle this via the web as the phone lines are still swamped (that’s totally my advice, not Voip.com’s). Whether you subscribe via the internet or phone, be sure to use Voip.com promo code “LUCKY “to ensure you get the best deal and the current money-saving offer.

Voip.com also confirms that they will be able to port (transfer) 99% of existing phone numbers. They have been in contact with the FCC, who is also working on addressing the issue caused by 200,000 Sunrocket customers losing service. Since porting numbers involves dealing with a 3rd party though, it can take 1 to 3 weeks to take care of this. It all depends on how quickly the 3rd party acts.

I have worked as an independent representative for several VoIP companies for a couple of years now (yes, Sunrocket was one of them…..), and must say I am totally impressed with the way Voip.com handles its business. They are always quick to respond to my questions and comments, and I feel that they genuinely care for their associates and customers. I cannot say this about any other company I associate with, both within the Voip industry and outside it. Voip.com is also by far the most proactive company I have ever had the pleasure to work with. They are constantly working toward improving everything, from services offered to the total customer experience.

And another thing – Voip.com is financially sound and not involved in any expensive litigation like leading VoIP provider Vonage.

Based on my experience as a Voip.com independent representative, I can say nothing but great things about this internet phone service company. As a result, I highly recommend them! I currently have my VoIP service with Packet8 (another fine VoIP company), but will be switching to Voip.com next month when I move from NC to TX. I’m willing (and totally comfortable with) switching my home phone service to Voip.com, and you should be too! – besides, they’re cheaper!

You can use this link to subscribe via the Voip.com website, or call them at 800-TRY-VOIP (800-879-8647). Don’t forget to use your Voip.com promo code – LUCKY.

Thanks to a comment left by Aaron Cook on the previous post, the mystery of “Teleblend” has apparently been solved. Mr. Cook pointed out a recent article in the Wall Street Journal that confirms the new company Teleblend is the result of a deal between 8X8 (VoIP company Packet8) and Unified Communications (I think this is their website).

The article states that Sunrocket customers who transfer their phone numbers to Packet 8 VoIP will not have to pay the usual startup costs. Teleblend is offering ex-Sunrocket customers unlimited internet phone service for only $12.95 a month for the remainder of their contract.

I’m glad to hear that Teleblend doesn’t appear to be a scam after all, although all indications indicated that this was a company to watch out for initially. I think Teleblend should have explained the 8X8/Unified deal in the email that went out to Sunrocket customers, as this might have resolved any suspicions early on. But, that’s over and done with now, and life goes on…. I’m also happy to know that Packet8 is involved in this deal because I think they are one of the best VoIP providers available.

Packet8 is a great internet phone service company, and happens to be the VoIP provider that I use. Unlimited service costs $199 a year for the annual plan, or $24.99 a month for unlimited monthly service. They have been in the broadband phone service business for around 20 years and are financially strong. The majority of Packet8 customers are business VoIP users, but they have a strong base of residential VoIP subscribers as well.

Thanks again to Aaron for leaving this information :) Much appreciated!!!

<img width='1' height='1' Be careful!

According to some recent comments on my blog as well as in Sunrocket forum posts, the now defunct company Sunrocket has suddenly come back as “Teleblend”. Sunrocket customers are being offered unlimited service for $12.95 a month for the rest of their contract period, according to a recent comment.
I took a few minutes to research this company Teleblend, and here’s what I’ve found:

According to Whois.com, the domain name teleblend.net was registered by Bill Fogg of Kennebunk Maine on July 18, 2007. Evidently, right after the Sunrocket shutdown which became “official” on July 17, someone decided to quickly capitalize on this. According to many theories and comments about Teleblend on dslreports.com, it seems that Teleblend may have been created quickly by some ex-Sunrocket employees.

Another domain name used by Teleblend is MYTELEBLEND.NET, which is the redirect site that you land on when you enter the address teleblend.net. According to whois, this domain name is affiliated with a company called overgroup.com out of Florida.

Probably a Scam

Apparently, ex-Sunrocket customers are receiving spam mail (how did Teleblend get it’s hands on Sunrocket customer email addresses? That’s what I’m curious about) that advertises Teleblend VoIP service and a special deal for Sunrocket users. Forum posters who have explored the signup process with this new company “Teleblend” say that this new company doesn’t even verify credit cards at signup. To make things just a bit more fishy, some people who received the spam emails from Teleblend say that the email header indicates that the mail originated from Sunrocket.com…. Could it be that some ex-Sunrocket employees (who have to be disgruntled, don’t you think?) have gotten their hands on confidential information (including credit card information) by accessing Sunrocket’s database?

The general consensus is that the Teleblend VoIP site is probably a scam, and could potentially be a phishing site. My recommendation is to STAY AWAY from Teleblend, and don’t even click on the hyperlink in the email that’s going around.

Sunrocket Customers Should Choose a Reputable VoIP Provider

I understand that ex-Sunrocket customers might be in a state of panic right now, trying to figure out how to get their money back from Sunrocket (call your credit card company) as well as looking for a new VoIP provider who can transfer their Sunrocket phone number. Please be very careful about choosing your new broadband phone service provider, as there are a lot of folks out there who are waiting to take advantage of your situation.

My top recommendation for “best VoIP provider” is Voip.com. In my opinion, they offer the best value for the money ($199 unlimited annual plan is “all inclusive”). Voip.com also has their own “in-house” development staff, which means they create and support their own service! They don’t outsource, and they are not a reseller – they are the “real deal”. Use Voip.com promo code LUCKY if you sign up, this will ensure you get to take advantage of the latest money saving offers!

My number two pick for a great VoIP provider is Packet8. This company has been in the internet phone business for 20 years or so, and is considered one of the “pioneers” in the industry. Packet 8 also has a $199 annual unlimited plan, but it is not “all inclusive” – you still get a bill each month for taxes and fees. Although this monthly amount is only around $5, it equals out to about $60 more a year than equivalent service with Voip.com.

My number three pick is Lingo, which is the best deal for those who have a need to make international calls. The Lingo unlimited plan ($21.95 a month) includes free international calling to 21 countries. If you need cheap international calling capabilities, check to see that the countries you call are included in the unlimited plan before subscribing.

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/InternetPhoneService-TheFutureIsHere/~3/Z2_T6zAAhJs/sunrocket-comes-back-as-teleblend-be.html" title="Sunrocket Comes Back as “Teleblend”??? When choosing a new internet phone service company, you want to be sure the VoIP company is on solid financial footing. You also need to be sure they have a reputation for delivering quality service. Following is some information about a few VoIP companies that I consider to be the best:

Voip.com is a rapidly growing VoIP company that seems to be getting the lion’s share of new business generated by the Sunrocket closing. Unlike a lot of companies who simply resell broadband phone service, Voip.com is a true VoIP company with its own in-house development staff. Voip.com has an annual unlimited plan for the low price of $199, or a monthly unlimited plan for $19.95. This company is on very solid financial footing and is not involved in any expensive lawsuits.

There is a lot of mention about switching to AT&T CallVantage broadband phone service, and it seems that AT&T is getting tons of new signups this week. This is understandable because AT&T is a huge global company with an impeccable reputation for quality of service. The unlimited plan with AT&T is $24.99 a month, and currently they are offering 1 month free. AT&T is currently involved in a patent infringement lawsuit, but at least this company has a lot of money to pay for it.

Packet 8 is one of the “pioneers” in the internet phone service industry, and most of it’s business involves providing business Voip services. I currently use Packet8 and have been a satisfied customer for over two years. Most of Packet8’s business is in the business side of VoIP, meaning most of their customers are businesses. Packet 8 offers a $199 annual unlimited plan, but you do get a bill each month for taxes and fees (around $5). They also have a monthly unlimited plan which costs $24.99 a month.

Another good internet phone service provider to consider is Lingo. This Voip provider has a monthly unlimited plan for $21.95 a month which also includes free calls to 21 countries. If you have a need to make international calls and the places you call are included within Lingo’s “free international call” zone, Lingo is definitely the VoIP provider you should choose.

So, if you are looking for the best VoIP provider – I would strongly encourage you to limit your choices to one of these. There are a few other excellent internet phone companies out there, but I’m not familiar enough with them to recommend them.

Sunrocket Customer Concerns - Finding New VoIP Service

I’ve been reading through a lot of posts in the Sunrocket forums at dslreports.com, and it seems that many Sunrocket customers still have service – but it’s slowly going out all over the country. A lot of Sunrocket subscribers are trying to decide which Voip company to switch to, and (understandably) many are hesitant to choose a new Voip provider due to getting burned so badly with Sunrocket.

If you are a Sunrocket subscriber who has not lost service yet – you are lucky! You have time to get service with a new broadband phone service provider – maybe before your phone goes down. If you have lost service and are looking for a new provider, see our website – The Best VoIP Providers For the Money. On this site we review and recommend only VoIP companies that are stable, financially strong and have a great reputation for quality service!

A Word About Porting Phone Numbers

A lot of people are also talking about how long it takes to port phone numbers. Sunrocket subscribers who need to switch to another carrier now want their number ported as quickly as possible, and many have turned away from Voip providers who have told them it would be several weeks before their number could be ported.

Please keep in mind that an internet phone service provider’s ability to port an existing number is largely out of their control. This is all controlled by the FCC and the cooperation of third party carriers. I’m sure every VoIP company wants to port (transfer) numbers as quickly as possible, because new subscriber service isn’t truly “activated” until the number is ported.

I just heard from an acquaintance at Voip.com (highly recommended as a VoIP provider, by the way), who tells me they just got confirmation from the FCC that they will be able to transfer 99% of all phone numbers. The folks at Voip.com are working round the clock this week to take on thousands of new broadband phone service subscribers and honor requests to transfer Sunrocket phone numbers to Voip.com service. I am told that it takes 1 to 4 weeks to port a number, due to the fact that the VoIP company has to wait until the third party releases the phone number.

Voip.com Promo Code = LUCKY

For those who are looking for the Voip.com promo code, it is LUCKY. And lucky you will be when you subscribe to internet phone service through this terrific VoIP company. Here are some reasons why:

<span style="font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;

Voip.com has their own in-house development staff, which means you get excellent service, technical support and cutting-edge VoIP technology

Voip.com is located in the USA (Florida), and all their call center people are located in the United States as well. When you call, you will not be transferred to someone in a third world country who cannot speak your language. Voip.com does not outsource their jobs overseas – this is a 100% American company!

The Voip.com annual unlimited plan is only $199 a year (paid up front). And this service is “all-inclusive”. You will never see another phone bill again for a year, and you can make all the long distance calls you want within the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico.

The Voip.com unlimited monthly plan is only $19.95 a month. This is way less than any of the top broadband phone service providers charge.

In most cases, you can keep your existing phone number when you switch to Voip.com internet phone service. This is a big plus for ex-Sunrocket subscribers who suddenly found themselves without phone service when the company unexpectedly shut down earlier this week.

Voip.com broadband phone service includes more free features than any other VoIP provider.

The folks at Voip.com are working like crazy signing up new customers and porting ex-Sunrocket customer numbers over.

The reason so many people are subscribing to VoIP service with Voip.com is the exceptional value this company offers, as well as the outstanding technical support and service. Although Voip.com is a relatively new internet phone service company (a little over 2 years old), they know how to do things right. Voip.com has an in-house development staff and does not rely on 3rd parties to supply it with programming and technical support. Voip.com is also financially stable, and is not involved in any expensive patent infringement lawsuits (like competitors AT&T and Vonage).

For Sunrocket subscribers who got burned, Voip.com is a great alternative to turn to. For $199 a year (paid up front), you can get unlimited local and long distance service within the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. For those users who like to make international calls, Voip.com offers some of the lowest international long distance rates I’ve seen!

Just like the Sunrocket annual plan, the Voip.com annual plan is “all inclusive”. This means that once you pay the $199 fee up front, you get a whole years worth of free unlimited calling without seeing another bill. Other broadband phone service companies offer annual plans too, but they usually bill you every month for “taxes and fees”. Although the monthly charge for these fees is usually around $, it’s money you don’t have to spend if you go with Voip.com annual service.

For those who don’t want to commit to an annual plan, Voip.com offers a monthly unlimited plan for $19.95 a month. Both the annual plan and monthly unlimited plan include free softphone service, which is really a plus for folks who travel. Voip.com offers more features than any other Voip company too! Here is a review on Voip.com.

Now you can see why so many people are subscribing to Voip.com internet phone service. If you would like more information or would like to subscribe, here is the Voip.com link that will get you some special deals. Through this link, you will get free shipping and free setup when you subscribe to the annual plan. If you want the monthly plan, you will get free shipping and your first month of service for free. In order to take advantage of all current special offers Voip.com is giving right now, use promotional code (coupon code) LUCKY at checkout.

Voip.com Rescuing Lots of Sunrocket Subscribers

I just got an email from a manager at Voip.com, who tells me their phones are going crazy with calls from ex-Sunrocket customers. When Sunrocket VoIP lines started going down last night, subscribers started scrambling to find a replacement internet phone service.

The folks at Voip.com had to train call center people in the middle of the night last night, just to keep up with all the inbound calls from Sunrocket subscribers who lost service due to the company’s sudden and unexpected shutdown yesterday. Calls keep pouring into Voip.com today too, at an even higher rate than last night. If you’re trying to get your phone number ported over to Voip.com, you may want to do it on the internet to avoid possible long hold time.

So why is Voip.com so busy? Because this is one of the last broadband phone service providers with a solid financial picture and absolutely no legal troubles. VoIP companies have been dropping like flies lately, it seems like. It all started with the lawsuit against Vonage, and Vonage’s poor financial statement a few months ago. Then AT&T got sued for copyright infringement too. Sunrocket obviously didn’t manage finances too well, because they were in deep financial doo-doo and looking for a buyer to rescue them – it never happened.

I myself have been looking into switching over to Voip.com (from Packet8 – another excellent VoIP company), simply for the increased cost savings. Voip.com offers great value for the money with their $199 “all inclusive” annual plan (just like the plan that Sunrocket was so popular for). Another thing I like about Voip.com is that they have an in-house development staff, and all of their support people are located right there on company premises (your call doesn’t get routed to a third world country, in other words). Here is my review on Voip.com.

Right now, Voip.com is offering free shipping and free setup for new annual plan subscribers (this is the best value at $199 a year – paid up front). If you want to subscribe to the monthly plan, you can get free shipping and 1 month of free service. The monthly plan costs $19.95 a month. Both of these plans provide unlimited local and long distance calling within the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. In order to get these deals and discounts, use the coupon code/promotion code <span style="font-size: 14pt; And it really makes me furious to hear that they shut down without notifying a single customer! If you are one of the 200,000 + Sunrocket subscribers, I am deeply sorry to hear that you lost your service without warning and so suddenly. You are likely seeking out a good alternative to your Sunrocket VoIP service right now, and it’s understandable that you would be a bit apprehensive about choosing your next provider – I would be too!

There are some good alternatives out there, but with so much shakeup going on in the VoIP market these days it’s hard to know which VoIP provider to choose. Vonage and AT&T are both caught up in some legal issues regarding copyright infringement. Vonage is also on shaky ground with finances. Although I believe these two companies will come out ok in the end, I would recommend steering clear of these providers at the moment – until the dust settles a bit.

Two very good options to consider are Voip.com and Packet8. Both have a $199 annual plan, neither are involved in any big expensive lawsuits and both companies are financially stable. I have personally used Packet8 for over 2 years and am extremely pleased with their service. Another good VoIP company to look at is Lingo, particularly if you have international calling needs. Someone left a comment on my earlier post today with a recommendation for Inphonex. I am not familiar with this provider, but you may want to check them out.

Following is an excerpt from an email I got this afternoon from Telebay, a marketing company that provides affiliate marketing services for both Voip.com and Packet8.

“Though we are saddened to see SunRocket go... this is a great time to take advantage of the situation and provide your customers with an alternative, from a financially stable company: Packet8. As many of you know, even Vonage is having major problems now.

We say the following because we believe it to be true -- not because we happen to offer VoIP from both of these companies -- but Packet8 and Voip.com are currently the most financially stable voips out there.

We have been told that they are going to be paying all debts and that this should include debts to their agents. We will, of course, press for this and pay you what you are owed after receipt.”

I am glad to hear that Sunrocket intends to pay off all their debts, as I am/was an agent for Sunrocket and they owe me some money too. I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for this to happen, but it would be nice to see them pay what is owed. I hope that Sunrocket intends to refund money owed to all its customers too!

Sunrocket is "Gone"!

I’m sad to say that it looks as if the VoIP company Sunrocket has shut down operations and gone out of business. I’m appalled at the way they did it! The number two VoIP provider in the nation, with over 200,000 customers appears to have suddenly let all their employees go and closed the doors without notifying any customers.
According to an article on dslreports.com, Sunrocket let a lot of employees go last Friday in anticipation of a sale. When the sale didn’t pan out, they fired the remaining employees yesterday – leaving 200,000 subscribers hanging. Now when customers call the 800 number for customer service, they hear a message "We are no longer taking customer service or sales calls. Goodbye."

As of last night, many Sunrocket customers started posting comments on dsl reports forums indicating that their VoIP service had stopped functioning. This morning, an article on CNN.com confirms the fact that Sunrocket has simply just “disappeared”.

Alternatives to Sunrocket

Now that Sunrocket subscribers are left without phone service, they are turning to other VoIP providers. I imagine it’s hard for them to choose a new internet phone company, considering the fact that the number one company (Vonage) is in a lot of financial and legal trouble. AT&T CallVantage is also involved in a patent-related lawsuit, but at least they are backed by a global player with deep pockets.

My recommendations for those looking for a VoIP provider are Packet8, Voip.com or Lingo. These broadband phone companies appear to be staying out of legal trouble and have a good reputation for quality and service. I have been using Packet 8 VoIP for over two years now, and have never had a bit of trouble with it.

Of course, up until recently I thought that Sunrocket was a terrific internet phone company that was here to stay. Who knows what will happen with the other VoIP companies? All we can do is hope for the best and always be prepared to port our phone number to another carrier if necessary. I’m still a believer in and avid user of internet phone service, and I’ll keep using it because it saves me a ton of money!

Sunrocket Hit a "Bump" in the VoIP Road

I’m really disappointed to hear that Sunrocket is now caught up in the patent infringement lawsuit involving VoIP technologies, along with AT&T, EarthLink, Verizon and Vonage. Web Telephony of Deerfield, Ill claims that these companies are infringing on two of it’s patents, and is seeking damages. On top of that, Sunrocket recently fired it’s top management and is rumored to have laid off many employees. Here is an article that explains what’s going on with Sunrocket.

What disappoints me is that Sunrocket has always been one of my favorite VoIP providers, and it has been growing by leaps and bounds due to its low priced VoIP service ($199 annually) and commitment to outstanding customer service. There have been a lot of reports lately regarding outages of Sunrocket service, which is disappointing to hear. Hopefully the future will brighten for Sunrocket soon. They are apparently a little short on cash right now, but are expected to be fully funded again by August.

So, what’s left for people who want to switch to internet phone service but don’t want the drama and worry associated with the outcome of this big VoIP patent infringement lawsuit? What are the alternatives to getting VoIP service directly from the cable company (at twice the cost)?

My choices are either Voip.com or Packet8.

Voip.com is a rapidly growing broadband phone service provider that has an in house development staff and an excellent price. Their unlimited annual plan is $199 a year, which works out to less than $17 a month for unlimited local and long distance calls within the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. Voip.com also offers unbelievably low international rates! Once you pay the $199 annual fee up front, you never see another phone bill for a year!

Packet8 is one of the “pioneers” of internet phone service, and has a large footprint in the small business VoIP arena. They also provide unlimited residential VoIP service for $24.99 a month. Packet8 also has an annual unlimited plan for $199 a year, but you will still get a bill each month for “taxes and fees”, which amounts to around $5.

Both of these companies have their own development staff, and create their own products. This appears to be the best way to go, as it keeps them away from expensive patent infringement issues that can quickly suck the life out a company.

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/InternetPhoneService-TheFutureIsHere/~3/6RdrRoThAv0/sunrocket-hit-bump-in-voip-road.html" title="Sunrocket Hit a "Bump" In my opinion this is one of the best VoIP providers for the money, and they have outstanding service to boot!

This VoIP company is located in Boca Raton, FL, and unlike a lot of broadband phone service providers, they maintain an in-house development staff as well as in-house customer service people.

I don't know about you, but I'm tired of calling companies for support or questions only to find my call has been routed to some person in a third world country who reads from a script. With Voip.com, your call stays in the United States and you are promptly greeted by an English-speaking person who can think for herself/himself. I've called Voip.com a couple times within the past month asking "pre-sales" questions, and have been pleasantly surprised at the quality of response I get as well as the speed of service (no waiting on hold for 20 minutes due to "heavy call volume").

As for technical support, I haven't subscribed yet (but will soon) but I feel that any company that has their own development staff on site must be pretty good at support.

Voip.com offers an unbelievable deal on unlimited internet phone service. They have a monthly plan for $19.95 a month as well as an annual plan for $199 a year (paid up front). I want to subscribe to an annual plan, so I called Packet8 (my current VoIP provider) as well as Voip.com to find out if there were any additional fees. Packet8 told me that I would get a monthly bill even if I subscribe to the $199 annual plan. This bill is for "taxes and fees" and averages $5 a month. The Voip.com annual plan is "all inclusive" and it was explained to me that I would never get another bill unless it was for international calls (which are dirt cheap, by the way).

So, in comparing Voip.com's annual plan to Packet 8's plan, the better deal is definitely with Voip.com! No more monthly bills, period! I will be switching to the Voip.com annual plan within the next few weeks. I currently pay $24.95 a month for unlimited phone service, which is cheap. But I want to save even more money, which is why I want to switch to a VoIP annual plan. By switching, I'll save an additional $100.40 a year. This may not sound like much to you, but the extra $8 a month will come in handy (especially with the high gas prices nowadays).

I've read a lot of user reviews on Voip.com, and have written up my own reviews of VoIP.com. I am impressed with this up and coming VoIP provider, and to put my money where my mouth is, I'm switching to Voip.com! Based on what I've experienced and what I know about this VoIP company, I think Voip.com is one of the best VoIP providers for the money!

If you want to subscribe to Voip.com internet phone service, you can do so here. If you want to take advantage of the latest money saving promotions and/or special offers (like free shipping, free service, etc...) use the Voip.com promo code LUCKY.
