Generally, learning via computer improves the study and research one is doing due to the high availability of information on the internet. Note that the availability of information on the Internet may expose the students to incomplete or wrong information. In addition, applications like word processors with the ability to spell check and grammar check can also help students improve their assignments.

The Internet has a lot of collaborative abilities which increases the ease in which students can undertake group work. These abilities allow the student to openly discuss or create a video conference with other students. In the next generation of E-Learning which is called E-Learning 2.0, the student has even more abilities and can crate content, share with peers to form a learning network and so on.

But, are the courses on the Internet so available? Most of the E-Learning systems in Israel, for instance, are based on one platform which has specific requirements such as a commercial operating system called "Microsoft Windows". Many people cannot handle the cost of this operating system (between 100$ to 500$).

Senator Bob Merrey suggests in his article, among other things, a solution to these problems. The senator suggests removing barriers that block full access to online learning resources by joining forces in developing high quality content and applications for online learning and creating a comprehensive research, development, and innovative framework for learning technology.

In my opinion, today, distance learning can primarily help the students from the traditional education system and impart them with new utilities. The high costs and the technology equipment and requirements, prevent other people from using the E-Learning systems and acquiring a profession or getting a higher education.
