Hey everybody!

Just a quick update on all the events coming up soon!

8th Graders- pack up your stuff for Friday night the 18th for an overnight event starting at 6:30pm. Boys- meet at the church. You’ll eat there and then head out to play laser tag, so wear your running shoes. Bring your overnight stuff to crash at the church and then your parents can pick you up by 9:30am the next morning!

Girls- Meet at Amber Flater’s house (618 Green Meadows Dr. AVON) at 6:30 to eat and then head to Zumba studio to go to a private class and then to a private make-up lesson with a real make-up artist! (bring your own make-up for this!) Girls can be picked up by 9am the next morning at my place

June 3rd- New Middle School Incomers Lunch- Sunday after church meet in the fireside room. This includes all new 6th graders as well as the remaining 7th and 8th graders. We will have a brief meeting with parents and then let everybody know the events for the rest of the summer.

June 6th- Summer kick-off event. This event is for the middle schoolers through college age and is at the church on that Wednesday night. We are having a Christian rapper come and share his ministry and give his testimony and then have a cook-out.

June 18th- 20th Mega sports camp- We are planning for this event to be a great time for the middle school. We will start early and help to set up for the camp and do swimming at the Bennett’s every afternoon. Plan on spending the night at the church Monday and Tuesday night and then heading home Wednesday night after camp at 8:30pm.

Thanks to everyone who helped with THE CRAG climbing event! It was a blast and I was so glad to meet so many of your friends! Thanks for inviting them Keep in mind we are still studying temptation in Sunday school, so if you struggle with being tempted this week, remember Christ’s example in Matthew 4 and know that Christ has been tempted in all the same ways we have and he knows our hearts, he knows were we could fail. It’s not just about one decision or one choice. As Christians, it’s so much bigger than that. Temptation effects our family, friends, future, and most importantly our faith. In order to beat temptation we need to strengthen our faith and work on cooperating with God, not manipulating him. When faced with temptation this week, think: God’s Will not my will, God’s Way, not my way.

Hey Guys! This next month we will be talking about how to attack Temptation at its source.

Don’t forget on Saturday the 18th we will be headed to The Crag for a team-building, wall-climbing, pizza-eating experience all for five bucks. Sign up this Wednesday or Sunday, take a waiver, get your mom to sign it and bring it back before Wednesday the 15th. Hope to see you there

The Crag – Indoor Rock Climbing

When: Saturday, February 18

Where: The Crag in Brownsburg. Meet at church at 4:15 pm. We will return to the church at 8:30 pm.

Cost is only $5 and includes pizza! We need 20 kids in order to qualify for special team building activities. Please be sure to have a signed waiver and medical release on file with the Middle School Leaders.

Rockin’ and Worshippin’

Last Saturday night the Middle School attended the Rock and Worship Roadshow tour including MercyMe, Tenth Avenue North, Hawk Nelson, Lecrae, Disciple and Sidewalk Prophets. They were all so awesome! Every band did about 7 songs and we got to hear their personal testimonies. I think collectively our favorites were Tenth Avenue North and Lecrae. They were both so entertaining to watch and really surprised us all with amazing sound. Hopefully you got to come and you enjoyed the night! Concerts are one of Seth & I’s favorite things to do, there will probably be many more Next time, though, we will go in the summer, when it’s WARM! God really blessed us with amazingly easy parking, Seth was a natural at driving the van, and we all made it on time without a hitch. God totally showed me how big He is in all the little things I get caught up worrying about.

This week Sam was sick so Seth filled in with a last minute lesson. It was about how others can see from our lives that we are Christians. Seth and I were inspired earlier in the week by a sports article we read about (who else?!) Tim Tebow. You can read that article for yourself here. It was a living, breathing example of James 1:27- Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. Tim has taken this verse and very clearly put it into action. The more amazing thing is that the article was written by a non-believer, Rick Rilley. Even he can see a heart that only wants to SERVE.

Just wanted to update everyone on what we have going on so far this year in the Middle School. This month, Sam Baker is teaching a four week series on Genesis, (I thought he was going to teach on Ruth but he changed his mind and it’s off to a great start! Yesterday he challenged us to read through the new testament this year starting with memorizing Col. 3:16a. Reading plans will be available soon!

We also have some exciting events coming up, like the Rock and Worship Road Show this Saturday night at 6pm. For February, we are headed to The Crag in Brownsburg for a climbing/team building experience, along with free pizza. This event will be the on the 18th and the times will be announced this upcoming Sunday. This event will be $10. You can get all this info directly to your phone by texting the word follow to 40-404. When it asks you who you want to follow, put in wbmiddleschool or 317-440-9023. If you already have a twitter account, simply follow wbmiddleschool.

New Years Resolutions

This year my new year’s resolution isn’t really one single task, really it’s a new mindset. A mindset of efficiency. That’s where the Middle School comes in. Before Seth and I took the job of being Middle School leaders, I thought the job would be so simple, I just thought it would be fun and we could meet some new people and help some kids along the way. But over the past year I have learned that I was MOSTLY right, got to meet lots of kids and parents and we have had sooo much fun, but it has not been easy. There are lots of emails. And there are a lot of mistakes that Seth and I make. And it takes a lot of brainpower (from Seth) and patience (from me) to plan a lesson worth hearing. I guess I didn’t realize how STRONG I would have to be to really serve. But isn’t God so faithful? As soon as I feel myself getting down and out, someone is along the way to encourage us (like yesterday’s message). Or we get a card that makes us feel so good inside we want to be better and better leaders. We love being Middle School leaders and we are so pumped and encouraged to serve STRONGER.

So besides taking vitamins and using my time more wisely and sleeping less, the Middle School is on my resolution list. More blog posts, more emails, more sign-up sheets, more mail for you parents, and more events. More efficiency Thanks for the encouragement and for coming to West Bridge Middle School!

Philippians 2

Kudos go to Austin Mock who proved Seth F. and Evan J. wrong by memorizing Philippians 2 and flawlessly reciting it to the group this past Sunday. Come to find out, he pretty much had it memorized in one day! Great job, Austin!! I love the fact that Austin is now a $100 richer and Seth and Evan are each $50 poorer…never underestimate a middle schooler! Also, never underestimate the gullibility of their leaders…just sayin’!

Unity Weekend

This past weekend was unity weekend The kids (and the leaders) had a blast learning about how to be unified as a Godly group. We played tons of silly games (mostly with blindfolds…lol) and ate lots and lots of food and stayed up LATE. The next day all of went over to the Bennetts, who so willingly let us play with all their pool toys and we all had a great time cooling off.

As our world gets more and more confusing, Satan is working hard and fast to turn our focus away from God-we have to be able to depend on each other. Middle School is especially confusing, constantly walking the line between what is right and wrong, popular and uncool, what is socially acceptable and what is not. Our focus this weekend was the body of Christ, and what a good reminder it was to me to do my unique part in this body as well as be helpful to others
