This tutorial is about Asian Monolids. For those of you not familiar with the term "monolid", it basically means the crease creates a smaller lid area. In honor of St. Patrick's Day and somewhat close to the emerald color of the year, I decided to do a simple eyeshadow look. This eyeshadow look can work on most eye shapes. When I mean most, I would say if your eyes are hooded and droop at the outer end of the eyes, I would not do the outer eye end shading. Other than that, the rest of the tutorial works for everyone. I have used Grace from London Makeup Girl to show how the application compares to non-hooded Asian eyes. Let's get on with the post. I am a major fan of the Arrow, not only do I enjoy watching Oliver Queen and John Diggle run on pure testosterone. I enjoy looking at the makeup. Yes, as a makeup addict, as you know, I am influenced by the beauty on tv and film. The last tutorial, Skyfall, was a bit difficult but this one isn't. In fact, it is fast and easy since it is an eye look made for a tv show which hardly gets much time to spare when it comes to makeup application. So, if you want a look that has depth and definition and is wearable anywhere. Go for this look.

In this tutorial I show how to do it with the lips which is the second area that gets a lot of attention. Remember, you don't want to isolate the lips from the rest of the face, you just want to define them so they have depth and definition.

Shading the Eyes or Separating the Eyes from the Rest of the Face

It has been a long time coming for this tutorial but to tell you the truth it is hard to do a tutorial using oneself in real time. In other words it is so much easier to just photoshop the steps, but I decided to show you on my mature eyes how shading the eyes work.

I have eliminated the steps on what products have been used. I will just mention what colors I have used. I will also leave out the details of how I did my winged liner and such because I covered that many times in many posts.

This is another tutorial inspired by the television show Revenge. A show not only is a great weekly drama, but a great show with great makeup. The last tutorial was about Victoria Grayson the manipulative bitch who had an affair with David Clarke. This tutorial is about another manipulative woman Emily Thorne (born Amanda Clarke), daughter of David Clarke. Emily looks so sweet and innocent but underneath that exterior lies a woman as manipulative as Victoria. As you can see, Emily Thorne has hooded eyes and I figured the best model for this tutorial would be Lisa from Beauty Info Zone.

A Fringe-Gasmic Makeup Moment-Are You Olivia or Fauxlivia?

Two universes, two Olivias, but one actress makes for one interesting challenge when it comes to differentiating the characters. Olivia's makeup is more subtle and natural. Fauxlivia is more playful. Olivia wears cooler tones while Fauxlivia with her red hair wears warmer tones and a bit darker shadow. Subtle differences besides the hair really make major changes when it comes to the Olivia's in Fringe. So, I decided in this tutorial to do both Olivia's and to show how subtle changes can make a big difference.

Of sorts. I am posting this on both of my blogs just in case. I am going to stop Into the Palette. I won't be posting anymore posts and could eventually go into private mode where it will be via members only or invitation. So I am putting the GFC back up.

You could say I was waiting for some signs to stop but it took me some convincing. I had a talk with a pro makeup artist friend and told him all my feelings about the blogs. He asked me one important question, "Are you having fun?" I hesitated my answer. I started tearing up because everything came to light. (And, I am tearing up as I write this post.)

It is one type of eyeliner that people want to do yet feel something is not right. More on Contouring and Defining the Eyes Especially Deep Set Ones

I thought about explaining this method in the next tutorial but realized it would make the post way too long and most likely put you all to sleep. I am not saying it is difficult, but it isn't exactly easy either because it has to do more with the anatomical structure of the individual's eyes. The only way to explain this is to use a skull. I found a volunteer, well actually I went on a rampage after my last post. (<---Just kidding! In my last post which was awhile back (I do apologize), I showed you how to make round eyes look elongated with eyeliner. In this one I show how to elongate them with eyeshadow. I chose a basic medium brown eyeshadow about 2 to 3 shades darker than the skintone. Now, you may be wondering why I don't choose flamboyant colors like many tutorials out there. Well, creating the illusion of elongation and making it look as natural as possible is a lot harder than just applying beautiful colors. Case in point, check out your favorite shows and look at the men. (Yep, they are wearing eyeshadow to make their eyes look elongated or bigger, yet it looks natural.) If you are a fan of the television show Once Upon a Time, I am sure you have been noticing the makeup especially the evil and bitchy queen. In the episode "Fruit of the Poisonous Tree" the queen's make up was a bit subtle compared to previous episodes since her true evilness had not completely evolved. The iciness of her character was well represented by the icy blue tones of eyeshadow and her peering evilness through the exaggerated winged liner. I thought it was a great eye look and decided to do a tutorial on it with similar results.

Brightening Up the Complexion

Actually, this is more of a highlighting tutorial and why am I doing another one? Well, nowadays with HD and the sharpness of cameras, highlighting appears to be a very important technique moreover than contouring. That is not to say contouring is completely out, just not as zealously used because it can look muddy in HD. If contouring is done, it is done softly on the nose and cheekbones. And, if the face needs some shape changing, post-production retouching appears to be the way it is done. Sometimes, I do wish the shows on television and movies on film would just let everyone be and let the artist's acting skills just make the character work. Then again, some acting does need help and I will leave my critique to that since I am not a tv/film critic!

I figured since summer is close by, I would do a post on bronzer application. I know some of you may be confused about bronzer and how to use it. I hope this post helps.

Bronzer is one item that can really make or break your look. It can make you look warm, glowy, and naturally enhanced or it can just make you look like an Oompa Loompa. One time I saw a woman shopping and overheard her talking to a friend that she had not been feeling well. I glanced over and noticed her face slathered with bronzer. She would have looked better with just a touch of lipcolor than her awful bronzer application.

The Orbital Ridge-Brushes and Blending

Orbital ridge is really the area that contours the eye. Is it necessary to emphasize the orbital ridge? Nothing is really necessary but it can change the way you see the application in eyeshadows. What is difficult about the orbital ridge is that with age, it unfortunately sags. However, the basic shape is always there and emphasizing that area can make a big difference.
