Indian Stocks Falls weigh by Technology & Banking Stocks

Indian stocks closed sharply lower after two days of rallying , as shares of technology companies and automakers continued their selling on global debt crisis. Increased chances of strict monetary policy also added further selling in the stock markets.

The main 30-share BSE index fell 213.49 or 1.30% to closed at 16,284.98, 90% of the indices contributors ended lower. The S&P CNX Nifty also lost 60 points or 1.21% to closed at 4,888.90 after hitting day’s high of 4,962.40 and low of 4,875.30.

On BSE, 1,528 shares ended lower and 1,313 shares jumped.

However, mid -cap and small -cap stocks relatively outperformed the broader markets with both the indices ended lower by around 0.50% each.

Coal India Ltd. was the biggest loser with the stock slumping as much 4.61% on concern that t 22 of its mines face closure over environmental concerns in eastern India, which could cut its output by 40,000 tonnes a day.

Among the auto shares, MARUTI SUZUKI lost 3.77% to 1,114.5 rupees, TATA MOTORS slumped 3.70% and TVS MOTOR declined 2.03%.

In the technology space, INFOSYS LTD lost 1.14% to close at 2,250.90 rupees, HCL INFOSYS fell 3.05% to 66.80 rupees.

Banking stocks also slid with SBI falling 3.58% to 1,989.75 rupees, BANK OF INDIA lost 3.77% to 307.50 rupees. AXIS BANK slid after rising in yesterday’s session and lost 3.12% to 1,049.70 rupees.

Bharat Heavy Electricals also lost 0.57% after analyst at HSBC reduced its price target on the stock to 1,590 rupees from 1,850 rupees.

As we advance our Hepatitis-C (HCV) treatment studies in India, we have also been active in our efforts to benefit from new government policies aimed at protecting U.S. civilian and military populations from bioterror and pandemic threats. This policy shift redefines the primary strategic objective of related government agencies to be the identification and support of innovative broad-spectrum countermeasures, technologies, and platforms. This is a considerable shift from the government�s previous focus of attempting to align a single drug or vaccine countermeasure with each pathogen threat. We remain convinced that our Hemopurifier� is the most advanced broad-spectrum countermeasure, technology, or platform.
Earlier this year, we were honored to be invited by The Department of Health and Humans Services (HHS) to present our Hemopurifier� as a broad-spectrum platform technology to multi-agency health officials on January 12th at the Washington Convention Center. Since this presentation, our bioterror and pandemic threat initiative has led to follow-on meetings and presentations, including a formal presentation to the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) on February 15th. While the pursuit of government grants and contracts is not our primary focus, it is difficult to ignore a growing pipeline of new and evolving opportunities to advance our science with non-dilutive capital resources.
On February 8th, we were pleased to learn that the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) released a broad agency announcement (BAA) entitled: �Dialysis Like Therapeutics� (DLT). The goal of the DLT program is to develop a portable device that removes �dirty� blood from the body, separates harmful agents, and returns �clean� blood to the body in a manner similar to dialysis treatment of kidney failure. While the device could have an impact across multiple areas of medicine, the target application for this device is sepsis. The envisioned device will be capable of removing at least 90% of unknown pathogens, toxins, and activated cells from a patient in one day. As stated in the BAA, targets for removal include viral pathogens referenced to include Hepatitis-C Virus (HCV), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Influenza Bio-agents, Smallpox, and viral hemorrhagic fevers. As we have proven capabilities within the scope of this BAA, we plan to respond with a full proposal by April 1st.
If you are not familiar with DARPA, their mission is to maintain the technological superiority of the U.S. military and prevent technological surprise from harming our national security by sponsoring revolutionary, high-payoff research bridging the gap between fundamental discoveries and their military use. Innovation sponsored by DARPA has resulted in groundbreaking discoveries and life changing advances such as the internet. DARPA envisions that the device developed under this BAA would save the lives of thousands of military patients each year.
If selected to participate in the DLT program, we would anticipate a multifaceted role that would involve teaming with other industry partners to advance our core Hemopurifier� as an innovative dialysis-like multi-use platform technology able to selectively target deleterious pathogens and toxins from the entire circulatory system. We would also seek expand the capabilities of our technology platform as the basis for a device targeting to reduce the presence of circulating factors that are precursors to sepsis. Our goal would be to reduce the occurrence of sepsis as post-sepsis treatment strategies to inhibit the inflammation process including the modulation of inflammatory cytokines have yet to be proven clinically beneficial. It is also possible that we could participate in the advancement of portable blood pump technology required under the BAA that would be deployed to treat wounded warfighters with extracorporeal device technologies including current and future iterations of our Hemopurifier� technology. Regardless of outcome, it is truly gratifying to witness therapeutic filtration being the focal point of a government contract opportunity. This is especially true when it comes from an agency as scientifically adept as DARPA. Once we complete our submission to DARPA, I will be back in touch with an update on other activities.

(OTC Bulletin Board:AEMD), the pioneer in developing therapeutic filtration devices to address infectious disease and cancer, announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Aethlon's request to export its Hemopurifier® medical device to India.

The FDA's approval was granted under Section 801 (e) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, as amended (the Act). Section 801 (e) of the Act covers class III medical devices, such as the Hemopurifier®, that have not yet received an approved Premarket Approval in the US by the FDA. Section 801 (e) applies to medical devices that are acceptable to the importing country and that are manufactured under the FDA's Good Manufacturing Practices.

"The granting of our export license by FDA represents a critical step in our strategy to initiate future commercialization of our Hemopurifier® in India," stated Jim Joyce, Aethlon Chairman and CEO.

Aethlon is currently conducting a clinical study entitled: "Use of the Aethlon Hemopurifier® in Treating Chronic HCV Infection in Combination with Standard of Care (SOC) Drug Therapy" at the Medicity Institute (Medicity) near Delhi, India. The Medicity is a $360 million multi-specialty medical institute recently established on a 43-acre campus to be a premier center of medical tourism in India. A clinical goal of the Aethlon-Medicity study will be to demonstrate that the Hemopurifier® is able to accelerate the benefit of HCV standard of care (SOC) drug regimens. Therapeutic filtration at the outset of SOC improves early virus reduction kinetics to levels associated with that of patients most likely to achieve a sustained viral response, which is the goal of HCV therapy. Additionally, lower quantities of HCV in circulation at the outset of SOC correlate with increased cure rates. Upon demonstration of treatment efficacy, Aethlon plans to commence commercialization of its Hemopurifier® in India.

The stock, which started trading at 1,662 rupees, rose 397.95 rupees to 1,707.95 rupees at the 3:30 p.m. close in Mumbai. It rose as much as 37.9 percent to 1,806.8 rupees in intraday trading from the offer price of 1,310 rupees a share in an IPO last month

Clenergen India Private Limited Appoints Merchant Bank for Public Floatation in India and Listing on National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exhange Limited (BSE)

November 11, 2009:
The Chennai (India) based Clenergen India Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Clenergen Corporation (OTCBB: CRGE), a pioneer in clean energy generation, announces today that ICICI Securities Limited has agreed to the engagement as the Lead Merchant Banker for the fund raising exercise through issuance of equity shares in India to for Clenergen's 16MW and 64MW gasification technology based power plants.

The total cost of the two projects, which together will generate 80MW/Hr of clean, renewable electricity, has been estimated at US$ 236.47 million, out of which a sum of US$ 153.70 million is planned to be raised in the form of long term debt. This assignment has been mandated to Ernst and Young in India.

Out of the total equity component of US$ 82.76 million, US$ 65 million will be raised through a public floatation on the Indian Capital Markets, the rest being a combination of contribution to equity by Clenergen Corporation, USA and private placement of shares before floatation. Post closure of the public offering, the shares of Clenergen India will be listed for trading on the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange Limited (BSE).
ICICI Securities Limited (I-Sec), part of the ICICI Bank's financial services conglomerate, has agreed to act as a Lead Merchant Banker (private equity placement, pre-IPO and the public floatation of Clenergen India). I-Sec is one of India's premier merchant bankers and has successfully handled many of the largest public flotations in India.
I-Sec has a presence in over 75 Indian cities and leverages on the network of its over 250 branches and its trading portal www.icicidirect.com is India's largest online trading portal with 19 million registered users.

Henderson, NV - Bergamo Acquisition Corp (OTCPK: BGMO)has organized a public unlisted corp. BERGAMO E&A CORP. BAC as project manager of proposed 500 MGW Solar Energy project in Pakistan entered into a proposed joint venture proposal to sell at agreed price 70% interest in Bergamo E&A Corp to AES CORP(NYSE:AES)who will have management and construction control.

BAC supported by 20 year power purchase agreement with Government of Pakistan valued at 2,245,000,000 Billion US Dollars. BAC has formed in Pakistan new corporation Shahbaz International Investment and Securities Corp (SII&SC) who will receive transfer of profits from proposed joint venture agreement with AES Corp, Anticipated profit projected at 2,430,000 per year based on 200 MGW facilities.

SII&SC has entered into MOU with Arif Habib Bank to pursue joint ventures within Pakistan.
From Jan to April, 2009 SII&SC will have completed plans for projects as below:
LED lighting facility Solar Panel manufacturing facility Water Desalinization Dairy Products License with Japanese company to supply products for distribution in Pakistan Commercial Finance and Factoring Company in Conjunction with Bank. Arif Habib Bank investment division to organize IPO in Pakistan incorporating all of the above developments. BAC and SII&SC and Arif Habib Bank objective thru and IPO to bring to Pakistan investment of US Dollars in renewable energy and as described above in a number of other projects.

Limping Chinese Market Put Indian Footwear on Fast Track

The Indian retail industry is growing dynamically, and so is its footwear retail industry. The easy availability of raw material and skilled manpower at relatively much lower cost is expected to keep the demand for Indian footwear buoyant in near future. "Indian Footwear Industry Analysis", a new report by RNCOS, expects the Indian footwear retail market to grow at a CAGR of over 20% through 2011.
According to Shushmul Maheshwari, Chief Executive, RNCOS, "Even the ongoing financial turmoil will not be able to significantly impact the demand for Indian footwear in global markets. This is because the demand for high quality footwear made in Europe or other regions of the world will certainly suffer a setback as people will prefer buying inexpensive, or precisely, medium or low-priced footwear. And India and China definitely have an edge on this front."
He further adds, "However, rise in labor cost and strengthening currency (against US Dollar) have posed serious problems for Chinese producers". The cost of labor has grown by about 40% since January this year in China. As a result, Chinese products, that used to be as much as 10% cheaper than Indian products, are now lagging behind. The other reason why Chinese products are loosing sheen in international markets is the implementation of EU anti-dumping duty.
Under such circumstances, India is the only major source left for supplying low-cost footwear. So most of the global footwear makers, especially European ones who were earlier sourcing from China, are now gradually turning to India. Several Indian units are getting enquiries and orders from European companies and some of them have even announced to station their own manufacturing facilities in th e country. Some of the leading footwear players like Adidas, Puma and Nike are likely to channel a part of their purchase and production from China to India.
This inclination of footwear majors towards the Indian market has already started to come into light. The statistics for the period from January to July 2008 have shown that footwear imports in Europe from China slipped by 1.7% against the same period last year; on the contrary, those from India increased by 3.5%.

BANGALORE, India--Dec 13 2008 --Government of Karnataka, on the occasion of 2nd Bangalore Nano, in the august presence of Shri. M. Hamid Ansari, H.E. Vice President of India, Shri. Rameshwar Thakur, H.E. Governor of Karnataka, Dr. V.S. Acharya, Honourable Home Minister, Government of Karnataka, Prof. C.N.R. Rao, Chairman, Science Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, Government of India and Dr. Ajit Sapre, Group President (Research & Technology), Reliance Industries Ltd today made a solemn proclamation to declare Bangalore as the "Nanocity of India".
On the occasion, Government of Karnataka promised to take every possible measure to encourage the Research & Development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, create opportunities for the commercialization of Nanoscience and facilitate development of small, medium and large scale Industry committed to Nanotechnology. In addition to budgetary support, Karnataka Government has allotted 14 acres of Government land for setting up India's first premier 'Nano-institute' – Institute of Nano Science and Technology – in Bangalore. This Centre would be set up under the guidance of JNCASR, with a Rs. 100 crore grant by Government of India from the budgetary provision of Rs. 1000 crore (USD 250 million) for Nano Science and Technology initiative. Further, Karnataka Government is also planning to develop a Nano Park and Incubation Center.
Shri. M. Hamid Ansari, H.E. Vice President of India, said, "It is now globally accepted that Nanotechnology is dramatically changing the face of industry and economy and will be a transformative force in the future of India and the world. The theme of 2nd Bangalore Nano, "Nanotechnology in India's future", is timely and relevant. Bangalore Nano has also encouraged budding entrepreneurs with business ideas by bringing them face to face with industry professionals and Venture Capitalists on a common platform to facilitate networking and business interactions. We need more such platforms in the country for various industry and research sectors."
Shri. Rameshwar Thakur, H.E. Governor of Karnataka, said, "Nanotechnology Industry, currently estimated to be around nine billion dollars globally, has the potential to become a trillion dollar sector in the next decade. If the sector has to take-off, it is necessary that the research companies pass their technology concepts for commercialization. It is in this context that the Research Industry Collaboration Hub (RICH) programme organized at the 2nd Bangalore Nano would be a very fruitful platform for the Industry. Similarly, the YESSS – Young Entrepreneurs Start-ups Soaring Spirits – programme would provide an ideal platform for the young entrepreneurs to interact with the Financial Institutions, Venture Capitalists, Industries etc., and explore opportunities for commercialization and expansion."
