Today, almost 70 days of lock-down in our city. The future looks uncertain because of the Global Pandemic we are facing. I missed everything in my normal life. I missed my work as a teacher. I missed my daughter who is not living with me because of the pandemic. I feel that I am losing half of my life. So dramatic but true.

Before we begin this article, let us first define what is Stock Market? Stock Market is defines as any exchange that allows investors to buy and sell stocks and also allow companies to issue stocks. The word “Stocks” refers to the company’s equity and shares are pieces of the company.

For example, if I buy 1000 shares of Facebook at $200 and sell it five months later for $220 per shares, I gain profit from it. However, if Facebook stocks is down, I could lose money and we call this as losses.

STOCK MARKET TERMINOLOGIES AND MEANING

1. BLUE CHIPS STOCKS

We define this as shares of very large and well-recognized companies with long history of financial performance. Usually, blue chip stocks has a higher cost because they have a good reputation in markets.

2. BROKER

A broker is a person who buys or sells an investment for you in exchange for a commission. Today, online brokerage company is in high demand as they give more convenience for the investors.

3. DAY TRADING

This is the process of buying and selling stocks in the same day of trading. If you buy in the morning, then you sell before the market close, this is a day trading. If you are active trader then maybe this kind of trading activity is for you.

4. DIVIDEND

Dividend is a portion of a company’s earnings. The shareholders of company receives this kind of earning sometimes quarterly, semi-annually or annually. Some company gave money dividends while others gave a stock dividend.

5. EXCHANGE

This is the place where trading occurs. The most well-known exchanges in the United States are New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq. Here in the Philippines, we have Philippines Stock Exchange (PSE).

6. INITIAL PUBLIC OFFERING (IPO)

This refers to the process of offering shares of a private corporation to the public in a new stock issuance. This happen when the company open its doors for the first time in the public. This should be under the jurisdiction of Securities and Exchange Commission. The company should follow the strict rules of SEC before issuing an IPO.

7. HIGH

This is the term used to show the highest price point of a certain stock or index.

8. LOW

Low is the exactly opposite of high. I represents the lower price point for a stock or index.

9. OPEN

Open refers to the time at which people can begin trading on a particular exchange. In the Philippines, we have pre-open at 9:00 AM and Market opens at 9:30 AM.

10. CLOSE

Close refers to the time where the market is closing for trading. In United States, the Nasdaq close at 4 P.M. with after-hours trading continuing until 9 P.M. Here in the Philippines, the market close at 3:30 P.M.

11. ORDER

An investor’s bid to buy or sell a certain amount of stock is called Open. In buying a stock or selling it, there is a minimum amount of stocks for it usually 100 shares of stock.

12. PORTFOLIO

Portfolio is the collection of investments owned by an investor. Using online trading platform, you can easily see your portfolio. All of your trading activities and holding stocks are present in your portfolio.

13. STOCK SYMBOL

You have to be familiar with this. This is a one to four letter character alphabetic root symbol that represents a publicly traded company on a stock exchange. Google stock symbol is GOOG while Tesla is TSLA.

14. VOLATILITY

This refers to the price movements of a stock or the stock market as a whole. Some stocks has a high volatility. The price of this stock is extremely going up and down daily.

I saw a lot of people doing panic buying. My mother also felt discomfort about this situation. She think that we will experience food starvation. All companies were close. No work. Hard lock down.

Because of this, I started to manage my money. I know it is not the right time to spend for things that

is not essential for living. In this blog, I will show you some tips about how to budget your money

during pandemic time.

If you or someone in you family has been laid off because of COVID-19, the first step you should do is to see how much money is coming in. It is good if you have an emergency fund at your bank. Saving money is a big challenge for us. I remember my childhood days, my parent taught me how to save money. According to them, saving money means saving your life. So in this blog, I will show you my 10 tips on how to effectively save money for your future needs or maybe future investments.

Here are 5 things you can do to boost your chances of successfully saving money. Not only for your short-term goals, like a holiday, but long-term ones as well, like building up a home deposit.

1. MAKE A BUDGET

Budget is very important thing in savings. With the help of proper budgeting, you can adjust for your needs and wants. You can balance your financial for the whole year if you know how to budget your money.

Make a list of all of your expenditures. Try to eliminate unnecessary spending from your budget list. It may help you increase your savings. Regular expenses such as rent, insurance, transportation and utilities should be your priority in your budget list.

After making a list, you will now deduct these expenses from your income. Always remember that the total income is the sum of your income in a full time job plus income from your part time job, businesses, pension or any source of income you have.

“If you’re spending more than you earn, ask yourself what you could cut out or cut back.”

2. FIND WAYS TO CUT YOUR SPENDING

If you notice that your expenses is too high compare to your income, it is the best time to cut expenses. First thing to do is to identify non essential expenses like entertainment and dining out. Look for ways to save from fixed monthly expenses telephone bill and electricity bill.

Here are some ideas for trimming everyday expenses:

Commit to eating out only once a month and trying places that fall into the “cheap eats” category.
Give yourself a “cooling off period”: When tempted by a nonessential purchase, wait a few days. You may be glad you passed—or ready to save up for it.
Cancel subscriptions don’t really need.

3. OPEN A SAVINGS ACCOUNT

Savings account can give you interest. The more savings you commit, the higher the interest you receive.

Savings accounts are somewhere you can put some or all of your extra money from your income – the amount left over after paying for personal necessities and tax. You can avoid the temptation to spend this money by setting up automatic deposit in your preferred bank account.

4. SET SAVINGS GOALS

To boost your interest in saving money, you need to set your own goals. Start by thinking of what you might want to save for—perhaps you’re getting married, planning a vacation or saving for retirement. Then figure out how much money you’ll need and how long it might take you to save it.

Here are some examples of short and long term goal:

To achieve this, you need to know what is the difference between wants and needs. An individual needs are limited while his wants are unlimited. Needs are something that you must have, in order to live. On the contrary, wants are something that you wish to have, so as to add comforts in your life. Needs represents the necessities while wants indicate desires.

It is very essential for a beginner to understand what savings is. To deeper understand this word, let us have an example.

Savings is money left over after spending for consumption. For example, Mary's monthly income is $6,000. Her expenses include a $2,500 rent payment, a $500 student loan payment, a $100 credit card payment, $350 for groceries, $60 for utilities and $50 for her cellphone. Since her monthly income is $6,000 and her monthly expenses are $2,560, Mary has $2,440 left over. If Mary knows how to save money, she will be able to handle emergencies in her life. If Mary does not save her left over money, she will suffer from personal financial crisis. This is scary!

In this scenario, savings is very important for us. So after reading this, I hope that you catch some important thoughts about savings as it is the first step for investing. You need to save money because money is the key to start up investment. You need a bank!

To facilitate your first step in savings, lets have the different examples of savings.

A checking account is a deposit account held at a financial institution like banks that allows withdrawal and deposits. It is very liquid and accessible using checks, automated teller machines, and electronic debits.

A savings account pays interest on cash not needed for daily expenses but available for emergency. Deposits and withdrawals are available over-the-counter. Sometimes, the interest of savings account is higher than checking account. Nowadays, online banking is more efficient and giving higher interest than personal banking.

A time deposit is an interest-bearing bank account that has a pre-set date of maturity. A certificate of deposit (CD) is the best known example. The money must remain in the account for the certain period of time in order to earn high interest rate. The longer the time to maturity, the higher the interest payment will be.

Saving extra money is a very good practice. You will realize it worth as the time goes by.

Hello guys, this is my first blog about investment. Being a good investor is all about education and willingness to try. There are so many facts about investing, that one person or blog just does not have everything. As an investor, you have to do some researches about how to invest and the risk of investment. I am writing this blog to share my experiences in investing.

As a beginner, you should understand the meaning of the word "RISK" as it plays a major role in your investment journey. Always put this in your mind: "No investment is without risk". You may feel safe as you follow the results of your research and consider it as the "right thing to do". But at the end, you failed. Unfortunately, to build wealth over time, investors need to accept a significant amount of risk. Yes, risk is always there. Leaving your money in a risk-free investments such as high-yield savings accounts in a bank is not investing at all. Your money cannot make you rich after so many years if you put it in a bank and wait it to gain interest. It is like planting a mango tree at the age of 80 and waiting for the fruit.

For me, as an investor, my goal is to grow my wealth to achieve financial independence. I am willing to take risk or maybe a moderate risk to be successful. I starter investing at the age of 25. I know that this age is too late for investing. At the age of 21 I think, a person should be investing for a good harvest.
