If you are into Mexican food and want to sit down at a nice restaurant, I would recommend El Cholo Restaurant. It’s located south of Koreatown in the Country Club Park of Los Angeles. The cross streets are 11th and Western Avenue. The atmosphere, pricing and food are the best.El Cholo Restaurant is also proud of the USC and Cal State Los Angeles sports team. They sponser dinners with pro sports figures and than donate the money to these local university sports teams. They also have nights dedicated to US soldiers and or local heros such as the fireman(LAFD), police(LAPD).

El Cholo restaurant has been a fixture in the Los Angeles area since 1926. And the restaurant has been ran by the descendants of Alejandro Borquez and George Salisbury. The hours are generally around 11 AM – 10 PM. They do have vallet parking. And the busiest times of the year are in May around Cinco De Mayo(May 5th) and in September around the independence of Mexico from Spain(September 16th). El Cholo is widely known and famous for their margarita’s. Plan to spend between $10.00 – $20.00 per person,

I have been going to El Cholo restaurant for the last 12 years. Everytime has been a wonderful experience. I would recommend being seated in the patio area. My favorite dishes are the “Taste Of History”($12.25). It includes 1 taco, 1 enchilada, 1 tamale, 1 chile relleno with rice, beans and a salad. I usually order the Taste Of History when I really can’t decide on what I want. I never can finish the plate, so I take the remaining food home. The other plate I love to have is the Chile Colorado. Its chunks of beef in a spicy sauce, with the sides of rice, beans and cup of their fresh guacomole sauce and their homemade tortillas($10.75). You will also recieve free, fresh corn chips and salsa. And at the end of your mill will get sweet, savory prelaine candies.

Guo Nian! which means to Celebrate The New Year in Chinese. Chuc Mung Nam Moi! means Happy New Years in Vietnamese

It is 2008 and the year of the rat. And the world is gearing up for this wonderful celebration of life and family. All the way from Los Angeles, to China, Vietnam, Korea, San Fransico. and to New York City.

Lately we have been going to the celebrations in Los Angeles due to travel and convience because of where we live. Chinatown businesses in Los Angeles pretty much closes down 1 – 3 days prior to the celebration to adhere to some of the New Years traditions. So roughly from Thursday and Friday of February 7th to the 8th many of the business will be closed. And the celebrations pick up on the morning of February 9th.

Chinatown in Los Angeles has a parade on February 9th, 2008. Get your seat early. There will be huge crowds. At times exceeding over 100,000 people plus. Be sure when the dragons pass you during the parade that they pass directly in front of you. You will be more blessed with luck during the year. And for the children, be mindful, and respect your parents and other adults and wish them a happy and prosperous New Year. There are many red envelopes to be had. The children will find money in the envelopes. Usually one will find anywhere between a nickel up to no more than $4.00. You are considered real lucky if you receive an envelope with $8.00(for its homophone for “wealth”). Sometimes they will find chocolate coins in the envelopes as well.

Prior to the parade you may want to enjoy some of the traditional Chinese and Vietnamese styled restaurants with more of the authentic foods. Not really much of the American-Asian fusion food one would eat outside such enclaved cities. All are wonderful in taste and variety. I always enjoy the traditional bowl of Vietnamese soup called Pho’. One of the many pho’ restaurants I frequent is on Broadway by the name of Pho’ 79. Order the simpliest soup called Pho’ Tai. It is pretty much a steak and noodle soup dish. One may top the soup with bean sprout, basil, hoisen sauce, nuc mum(fish sauce) and a green chile or two.

You may want to do a walking tour of the many shops that have great deals on textiles, art, clothing, toys and food at reasonable prices. You may also be surprised of the many Asian and American galleries spotted throughout Chinatown. It is also rumored that a few Hollywood stars have bought lofts in the area as well. I hear that Quentin Tarantino may be one of them. You know the producer/director/writer of such films as Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, and From Dusk to Dawn.

If you are unsure what Chinese Zodiac(Horoscope) you fall under, you may find out your animal sign here. Your sign will come every 12 years. If you would like to know more about the legend of the 12 signs, you may read more about it at Chinese Zodiac Page.

For those of you that would like to a smile like a Hollywood star, Dr. Alex A. Farnoosh is offering a new treatment for a condition called a gummy smile. What is a gummy smile you might ask? The condition occurs when the lip sits unnaturally high on the gum line, creating a smile exhibiting excess gums. This is often due to either the upper lip being too short or a hypermobile lip.

Improving a “Gummy Smile”

The most operative way of improving a gummy smile is to lower the lip line cover that covers the gums. The procedure reduces the gummy smile and produces a more attractive smile. The procedure was developed by Dr. Farnosh (http://www.thetotalsmile.com/photo-gallery/results.cfm?Category=4) Also, this procedure can be performed in conjunction with crown lengthening, to reshape the gumline around short teeth by removing excess gum. In some cases, the placement of veneers or crowns may also be needed.

Dr. Farnosh can help your smile in many ways. His office provides dental implants,
laser tooth whitening, aesthetic gum treatment & gum bleaching, gum grafting & bone grafting as needed. Another therapy offered is the treatment of periodontal disease by laser. Periodontal disease may cause bad breath, swollen and bleeding gums, receding gums, extremely sensitive teeth and, eventually, tooth loss. What is Laser light treatment? Laser light is directed through a small fiber to reduce bacteria and eradicate diseased, infected tissue around the teeth. What are the benefits of laser periodontal treatment? The treatment reduces discomfort, controls bleeding, and offers healing time sooner than more conventional procedures.

Dr. Alex A. Farnoosh, D.M.D., M.S.D., Ph.D. is a dentist in Beverly Hills specializing in dental implants, gum bleaching and gum grafting. He serves patients from all over Los Angeles & other countries.

There are so many fantastic ways to gather in groups in L.A.

I know that some people just aren’t “joiners”, but I am, and I am a HUGE extrovert, so a fun, lively gathering of interesting people calls to me. If you need a little jolt to spur you to action, here are some ideas…

There are networking meetings for business, there are singles gatherings, there are social groups to find new friends and then there are plenty of special interest groups like the Sierra Club, etc.

The other night, I attended my first meeting of a business networking group that I recently joined called Ladies Who Launch. More about the organization in a minute, but this gathering was held in a retail store. Not just any store, but the fabulous Three Dots, home of the famous delicious high end T Shirts and comfy, hip easy to wear clothing that feels like you’re in your pjs, on Melrose near Crescent Heights.

The founder of Three Dots, Sharon Lebon and her creative director Yuchin Mao were on hand to tell the fascinating tale of rags to riches (Yuchin recently came on board, previously designing for the likes of Helmut Lang and Prada). There were about 75 high-powered business-owners and would-be start-ups and a good time was had by all. Most inspiring to me was Sharon’s humble account of the last 10 years, growing the company from having $4000 in the bank to an expected gross next year of over $100,000,000. That’s ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS. Wow. She made it really clear that if SHE could do it, we could do it and each one of us went away with a feeling of true inspiration. If you’re interested in hearing an interview with the innovative young designer Yuchin Mao, go here: Three Dots Creative Director Yuchin Mao. There are many amazing stories in Los Angeles, it was extraordinary to get such an up-close and vulnerable peek into a superstar in the fashion industry’s business.

Ladies Who Launch, the group I mentioned, is for women only (sorry, gentlemen, there are plenty of places for you guys to gather!), particularly women who have the intention of launching a business or who are ready to jumpstart a business they already have. They offer a four week program called an incubator, where you declare your idea and get support, homework and a shot in the arm from the leader and the other participants. MANY women-owned business, as well as friendships, partnerships and affiliations have started from these impactful groups!

Pictured here is LA Chapter Founder Amy Swift (on the right) and Jen Sincero, sex columnist and Incubator leader extraordinaire. They are modeling Three Dot dresses, hence the title of this post. If you are interested in finding out more about this amazing group, go ahead and check out their website. And if you don’t live in Los Angeles, they have chapters in most of the major cities in the US.

I feel so great about being a member of this national organization that boast some powerful movers and shakers in their membership.

Here are a few other resources for connecting with people in LA:

My People Connection

My People Connection features weekly events for friends in most of the major cities, including LA. With thousands of subscribers and thousands of events in the past eight years, MyPC brings together friends from diverse backgrounds and communities. It’s still FREE to belongno mandatory membership fees, since 1999!

These events are for any age, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, etc. It’s just people getting together to have fun and to meet others in this vast metropolis of ours.

Meetup Groups

Time magazine says MeetUp is:

A convenient, non-threatening way to connect to other people who share similar interests and live nearby.

Meetup is a website where anyone can create an interest group and for a small fee, post their ongoing event or meeting on the site. There are so many interesting and quirky things going on here, such as Santa Monica DEPECHE MODE Devotional Group or the Gin in North Hollywood group for those gin rummy enthusiasts in the San Fernando Valley, that you are sure to find one to suit your lifestyle!

LA-FUN Yahoo Group–The Original LA Fun is a list for indoor and outdoor enthusiasts with active members and outings every week. LA Fun has no spam, no politics, dues, fees or meetings. The group and its activities are run by regular members.

In fact, all you have to do is go to Yahoo Groups or Google Groups and type in Los Angeles, and you will be shocked at all the people meeting all over this city!

So, have fun, and if you have any other great resources or ideas…let me know!

The Santa Ana Zoo is a popular zoo that was first opened in the year 1952 in the land that was donated by a local citrus grower named Joseph Prentice. This were two conditions of the donation right before the zoo was built. One is that the name of the zoo will be named after and there should be at least fifty monkeys that will be displayed inside the zoo.Today, the zoo owns a lot of money and there are thousands of visitors come annually to visit and enjoy the zoo. The Santa Ana Zoo display 90 species, 35 exhibits and 249 individuals.

The zoo has a lot of exciting rides and activities that will keep children very interested. One of the best rides that children and adults enjoy within this park is the elephant rides. As you all know elephants are large species of animals and they can carry you on their back easily. This is one of the best attractions of the place. The elephants are well kept and fed by the zoo keepers, so they are always ready for fun and action. These elephants are very lovable and they love people, because they are trained with people around, so they do not panic especially when there are lots of people watching them. The zoo keepers ensure that these elephants are safe around lots of people.

The Santa Ana zoo that was located inside the Prentice Park at Santa Ana, California is about a 20-acre zoo, so it is really perfect for the whole family. You kids can personally pet the animals and learn about real farm life. This is the best way for you to teach your kids how to care about animals and other species around them. If you want something that will keep your family busy this weekend, then why not visit the Santa Ana zoo for a change.

Aside from the elephant rides, your children can also enjoy all miniature rides, the Crean family farm and the children zoo. If you are already tired strolling the park. You can rest and relax for while at the garden while the kids enjoy climbing on the play area and the snack bar. This is the best way for all parents to introduce their child to all the wonders inside the zoo. They will learn to care and appreciate animals and their environment.

The whole visit to the Santa Ana zoo will take you about three to four hours or more. The more time you spent inside the Santa Ana, the more your children will surely enjoy. If you are looking for real fun and excitement for your children, then Santa Ana Park is worth visiting. The parking is for free and the admission to the zoo is very affordable for the whole family.
