Brilliant Customer Idea: Dinner in the Dark

Julia Child once said, "There's no end to imagination in the kitchen," and after finding this gem of a dinner idea, we thought she couldn't be more right.

So the next time you have your friends over this summer, pour them a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, lay out the hors d'oeuvres and turn off the lights to experience your food like you're supposed to. Just be sure to have some napkins handy!

Five Fab Questions with...Lyndsey of The Stationery Place

We wanted to introduce you to one of our favorite bloggers + stationery ladies: Lyndsey of The Stationery Place!

1. How did The Stationery Place get its start?

In 2009, I was looking for a creative outlet from my corporate PR job -- I've always loved making and sending cards, so I started making handmade stationery and selling it on Etsy. I thought a blog would be a good place to showcase my work, but I quickly realized my strengths were with blogging and not the card-making. So, I gave up my shop and stuck with featuring other designers who were MUCH more talented than me. It's been so fun to get to know the stationery community and keep a pulse on new design trends.

2. What is your favorite part of blogging?

I love being able to help designers and small businesses spread the word about their work. I think it's the PR person in me, but I get a rush from helping to promote worthy causes -- and when we're talking about beautiful stationery, it's even more fulfilling!

3. What inspires you?

Good photography does it for me every time. If I come across a pretty photo -- of stationery, home decor, a cute outfit, whatever -- it stays with me and influences my thought process (and buying habits!) for days. I think that's why I'm so addicted to Pinterest and Instagram; there are so many visually inspiring photos out there!

4. Describe your dream party or celebration in 5 words.

Family, friends, cupcakes, sunshine, chevron. :)

5. Tell us your stationery style prediction.

I'm noticing a lot more hand-drawn illustrations and lettering on stationery lately -- I love the tangible quality of holding a card with a handmade design. There's nothing better in this over-digitized world!

{Party Inspiration} How to Kick Off Summer with a Fiesta

It's been a long standing tradition among my friends and I to have a kickball game whenever we have sufficient players and the urge to run around. Since college, we've been splitting into teams and battling it out with a red playground ball. This year, I wanted to spice it up a bit by combining our Kickball Classic with a summer fiesta! The week before, a few of us gathered to tie dye tee shirts to show team pride. We split up the menu so we could make it a potluck. It was so fun and I would love to make it an annual tradition!

Here are some of my favorite details:

I restyled our IC Piñata from Fiesta Friday with this fun tutorial from Studio DIY. This was such a fun craft- the spray paint worked perfectly and the colorful tissue paper flowers looked so festive as our centerpiece.
My friend Tommy drew our Kickball Classic logo onto the kickball (yup, this event got its own logo!).
I also created a tiny piñata out of a cereal box and crumpled tissue paper. The entire back of that little guy was covered in glitter, which got everywhere. No problem with that! The mini-donkey made his way into many photos throughout the night and was a perfect companion to my glittery pie server.
The bar was easy to set- if it was fuchsia, bright, or glittery, it made center stage.
We wore our tie-dye tee shirts with pride, and I highly recommend the Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit. It was so simple, and would even be a good fit for kiddo's. I purchased ours at Michaels, but this kit is similar!

Being the paper nerds we are, we're thrilled about our new stock types - heavier weights, shimmering finishes, creamy and traditional ecru stocks- and they are all FSC certified and partially recycled. What more could you ask for? Kaity hung our ink charts on her wall in each paper type so she could cozy up to our vibrant colors. For a limited time, we're offering 2 free samples so you can see our paper in person.

We all have our favorite bands to design to, to dance to, to live to. Mine for all three, and for everything ever, is The Wallflowers. Jakob Dylan is by far my favorite song writer of all time and I met him on Saturday evening after his show at the Funshine Music Festival. "Are you shaking? Please don't be shaking," he asked, smiling. I'm still kind of shaking. If you have not heard Glad All Over yet, please, please check it out.

Antoinette celebrates Greek Easter with her family - Greekster as we love to call it! Her mom, and our favorite IC fan, decorated this adorable cake she found on Pinterest.

Courtney has the cutest handwriting. It has appeared on many invitations including the popular Baby Stripes design. She put her illustration to good use in making her mom a charming card.

Happy Mother's Day to all of our moms, grandmas, sisters, aunts, friends, and every sweet loving spirit who takes care of others.

{Party Inspiration} A Roaring Twenties, Gatsby-Inspired Soiree

Unless you're living under a rock, you probably know that Baz Luhrmann's rendition of the Great Gatsby premieres this weekend. With a stellar, unexpectedly modern soundtrack and an all-star cast (we still swoon over Leonardo DiCaprio around here), we have high hopes of loving the movie. A vintage inspired party is always chic. We love the idea of throwing a Roaring Twenties themed party because it allows for decadent styling and a chance to go back in time. Its popularity allows for lots of flexibility with the type of party you throw. A Great Gatsby theme would be a perfect for a birthday party or a cocktail party (yes a lavish tablescape would make us swoon). Our Roaring Twenties invitation channels flapper fashion and would be ideal for a bachelorette party, bridal shower, or even just a girl's night out.
