Record the conversation where you get it out right. When you speak an idea, it engages a different part of your brain than when you write it. You often say it clearer when you’re just riffing aloud.

I can relate to this. I’ve been recording myself a lot lately on my iPhone. And I find that sometimes I do get things out more clearly and eloquently when I’m saying it vs. typing it.

Myth #1. Humans Need Eight Hours Sleep a Night

There are many ways of sleeping and few cultures sleep in eight-hour consolidated blocks like we do. In places like Bali and New Guinea, people tend to slip in and out of sleep as they need it, napping more during the day, and getting up more at night. Until the industrial era, many Western Europeans divided the night into “the first sleep” and the “second sleep.” They’d go to bed soon after dark, sleep for four hours then wake for an hour or two during which they’d write, pray, smoke, reflect on dreams they’d had, have sex or even visit neighbors. In fact, there’s some evidence to suggest that this sleep pattern may be the one most in tune with our inherent circadian rhythms.

Syncing Things Across Multiple Computers

I’ve been looking into using Things as a GTD resource. I’m usually not that organized of a guy, but as of late, I’ve been so swamped that I’ve finally succumb to the idea of using a tool like Things to help me better manage my junk. The one feature I was really hoping to find was syncing across multiple computers. Unfortunately, Things doesn’t offer syncing out of the box.

Thankfully, Chris Coyier wrote up a simple step by step for how to use a free service like Dropbox to sync Things across multiple computers. I think I’ll be making a purchase.

For what it’s worth, I used to use Things and switched to The Hit List because I found its interface and design to be far superior, and it just feels better than Things. And I keep it synced between two computers via Dropbox. Works like a dream. Also, an iPhone version is coming soon (he promises).

“Film’s way better huh?”

- …says my 6 year old daughter, Amia.

Today I’m introducing her to film. We’re looking at processed rolls of E-6 and a box of slides on a makeshift light-table in the living room.

She’s amazed. She LOVES it. It feels like some secret treasure that I’ve now shared with her. I love it. I may sell all my digital stuff and bask in the straight filmy goodness. I crave the purity of it.
