Drawing my cues from the original and best metro diagram, H.C. Beck’s wonderful London Underground diagram, I have rendered the Interstate system in a much simpler form. I have made the “major” highways (those divisible by 5) the framework of the map, with the “minor” highways reduced in importance and rendered as thinner grey lines. Even with these highways, a difference in the greys indicates whether they are even-numbered (west-east) or odd-numbered (north-south). Dots on the highways indicate interchanges: large dots where major highways meet other major highways, smaller dots where major meets minor and tiny dots where minor highways begin or end.

…discussed in this article. I agree with him. I just grabbed both of them. TiltShift Generator and Mill Colour. They are instantly my new favorites. SO much more control than the other ones that just apply pre-defined styles without any real nuance.

N.E.R.D. — Seeing Sounds

This album, and frankly this band in general, simply do not get enough credit. It could be the way they completely defy any genre-definition whatsoever. It’s rock, punk, hip-hop, funk, rap, pop, even a little ska, all rolled into a crazy mashup of goodness.

After seeing them open for Jay-Z the other night in Seattle I gained a renewed appreciation for their eclecticness.

Thoughts on The Reader

Just finished watching The Reader (which I reluctantly put on, expecting to fall asleep, disinterested.)

Two thoughts: 1) It’s a phenomenal movie. Powerful and brilliant on many levels. And, 2) It really saddens me how Hollywood advertisers portray films a certain way just to attempt to make more money. This movie is absolutely NOT what I half-expected from the trailers, posters, and DVD cover. It’s not at all the steamy period-piece romance they make it look like. It’s a gut-wrenching masterpiece. One of the best I’ve seen in a long time.
