I shot em last year and they cost me big!! I had a 6 year old 9 point that I had been chasing for 3 years come by last year during Novemeber for the first time, I took my time and took the 30 yd shot, 2 blade rage opened on the shot and caused a swirling effect which ended in a non-fatal hit to the leg. Come shotgun season the neighbor finally got the old boy. : (
I have been reading reviews and the best I can come up with is the Magnus stingers. (horrible link, I know)

My grandpa was old school too, he wouldn't wear a safety belt in a car because if he ever drove into a lake he would have to undo his seat belt before he got out of the car.

I didn't have to fall in for any hype, sales promotion, or big names, I just ended up with a pile of harnesses to wear. They come with every Gorilla or Summit tree stand that I have ever bought.

Some people don't use a harnesses because they are too complicated. I'm not the smartest guy but I was able to work out a system, I put this buckle in this hand and this leg in that loop and it seems pretty easy to put on.

G

Perhaps I should be more clear. I (like the rest of us) have a pile of the full-body systems that comes with all of our new stands. There is one of them that I am comfortable using, and I do use that one while in on stand. Granted, I haven't bowhunted for two years now, hopefully I can get back into it this year.

If worn improperly, it can easily suffocate you. Some guys attach the loop around the tree in a low position down by their waist so the strap between the man and the tree is loose while they are sitting down. When they stand up, it stops just short of getting tight. Placed this way, if you fall, you could easily end up below the platform of your stand and might not be able to get back on. BIG TROUBLE! I attach the loop around the tree up about even with my head so when I stand up, the strap between me and the tree is slack. When I'm sitting, it is almost tight. If I fall while standing, I will still be above my platform. And I can't really fall while sitting because I'm already at the end of my rope. Some might argue that even this is not safe but I feel really comfortable, knowing that I'll always be above my platform, no matter what. If I was in a position to ever be hanging below my platform, I would consider that very unacceptable.

You see you obviously have some common sense and there are many that could benefit from what you have just said. He has fallen or slipped from the platform twice and hes still alive and hunting strong at 71 years old. Dont know how to answer I guess. Its alot like seat belts in a car they may save you or may kill you. I dont care how safe anyone claims their harness is "THINGS CAN HAPPEN". I dont wear my seatbelt in the car because I was involved in an accident when I was a young kid and the police officer said " good thing you didnt have your seatbelt on or youd be dead!!!" So safety devices are not 100% no matter where, who, manufacturers name, what big pro uses it, or how much $$ you drop on it. Anyway use what you want and be careful. No need to spend 100 plus $$ on something that "MIGHT" save you, in my opinion, because the old style "MIGHT" save you also.. just dont wrap it around your kneck and keep a sharp object handy to cut it if you need to. My whole theory is if I fall I dont want to slam into the tree and bash my body or head against my climbing sticks, ladder, or steps. If you have ever fell wearing a five pt safety harness that goes around the inside of you crotch, trust me youd rather hit the ground from your stand.

I don't wear a parachute when I go skydiving because I saw a guy get tangled up in one once and die when he hit the ground.

Wouldnt bother me a bit if you didnt!! Your choice guy!

The ducks they mention remind me- when I was real young there one time I wanted to shoot a few ducks out of this flock of about 30 so he told me to go shoot 2. Well, I went down there and after 3 shots at the only drake in the bunch I had 14 of the farm ducks on the ground   don't eat my lunch they weren't wild...
