During the Hack-in-the-box conference in Amsterdam, the Chronic Dev Team released their latest jailbreak for the iPad through Absinthe. Craig Fox (@flawlessfox) had a opportunity to spend some time with @pod2g and the Chronic dev team and posted an interview to RedmondPie of his questions.

Here are a couple of the highlights:

Craig Fox: To date, what is the coolest project you have worked on?

Pod2g: Without a doubt the coolest project I’ve worked on is the latest Absinthe Jailbreak, and what we did with Corona + Rocky Racoon is very nice.

Craig Fox: What’s the worst thing to happen to you whilst making a Jailbreak?

Pod2g: Yes, I would say the release of Limera1n hurt us a lot at first, but in the end it was the right move, we feel as Limera1n worked on many more devices than SHAtter did. And I can say, as a few months have passed that this was the right move from him. So it wasn’t really the worst thing that happened but it was at the time.

iPad Adoption Rate, First 8 Quarter Shipments

Business Insider Chart of the day showing how fast the iPad has been adopted as compared to the iPhone and iPod. With nearly 70 million shipments worldwide in the first 2 years, the iPad has been an explosive product for Apple. In comparison, the iPhone shipped 20 million units in the first 2 years. These adoption rates are much faster than the Samsung Galaxy Series, Nexus, HTC and Motorola phone market.

The green blip at the bottom is the iPod adoption rate, which is when I wish I would have picked up 1,000 or so shares of AAPL stock!

Netflix iPad App Update

Netflix announced an updated version of their iOS app yesterday to improve the NetFlix iOS app experience for streaming movies and television to the iPad. Controlling cellular data usage with the ability to disable video straming while using 3G or 4G LTE will help to conserve monthly data limitations.

Here are the updates to the Netflix iOS app:

A more consistent look and feel to onscreen controls that tie-in with the look and color scheme displayed while browsing through selections on an iOS device
Playback controls have been optimized for touch devices – buttons and other elements are now larger and spread out more onscreen in an effort to prevent users activating the wrong control by mistake
An improved scrub bar with thumbnails is designed to make scanning backwards and forward within a video more useful and intuitive
Access to audio and subtitles settings along with other existing player features has been streamlined

Prepaid iPhone Via Cricket

Leap Wireless International announced that the iPhone will be coming to the Cricket network on June 22. Prepaid wireless plans are expected to run $55/month for unlimited talk, text, and data. A fair use policy of 2.3GB per month is included in the plan.

The iPhone 4S is priced at only $499 for the unlocked 16GB model, the iPhone 4 will be available for $399. It is worth noting that this is $150 cheaper than Apple’s unlocked iPhones prices.

“Our customers want the best products available and we are excited to bring iPhone to our pre-paid consumers with an industry leading $55 per-month service plan,” said Doug Hutcheson, president and chief executive officer, Leap Wireless International, Inc. “Launching iPhone is a major milestone for us and we are proud to offer iPhone customers attractive nationwide coverage, a robust 3G data network and a value-packed, no-contract plan.”

How To Jailbreak New iPad With Absinthe 2.0.4

If you haven't heard, you can now jailbreak your new iPad. Below are the steps to get your new iPad jailbroken to install Cydia. Drop a comment if you have any issues as there have been a few bugs so far.

Software update to Absinthe 2.0.4 to provide support for the newer iPad 2 with the 32nm A5 chip. This version of Absinthe provides support for all iPads in iOS 5.1.1.

Absinthe Version 2.0.1:

Step 1: Download Absinthe 2.0.1 for Mac - Windows - Linux

Step 2: Run Absinthe 2.0.4

Step 3: Connect your new iPad or iPhone to your computer running Absinthe, and make sure that Absinthe detects the device you connected correctly. Make sure your device is turned on and on the Home screen.

*NOTE: There is no need to use DFU mode at all.

Step 4: Click Jailbreak, and let the process complete. You will see your iPad act as if it’s performing a restore, this is normal, be patient.

Step 5: Once complete, you should receive an alert on Absinthe telling you that the jailbreak on your iPad is complete, you will now see the Cydia app icon on your Home screen. It is now safe to unplug your device.

Step 6: Open Cydia on your iPad, and it will prepare for your first use and restart.

You have now installed your iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak on your iPad...ENJOY!!!

Anodizing Aluminum For iProducts

Bill Hammack, the Engineer Guy put together a nice geeky video discussing how Apple creates the iPod colors with Aluminum. Paint chips, but corroding aluminum and titanium results in a corrosion-resistant oxide layer in the metal.

This process results in a much stronger and highly scratch resistant surface for the Apple iPod and MacBook Air aluminum chassis. It really is simple...and somewhat magical.

Absinthe 2.0.4 Brings Support For Newer iPad 2

If you have an iPad 2,4 model...you may have felt a little left out of the iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak being offered to pretty much every other iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. This morning, the Chronic Dev Team has released an updated version of Absinthe to provide support for the new iPad 2.

The main difference between the 2011 iPad 2 and the 2012 iPad 2 is that the A5 chip provided in the older version use a 45 nanometer processor and a 32 nanometer chip for the "newer" iPad 2. The most notable differences is the additional battery life for the newer iPad 2 to the end users.

Absinthe: Over 200,000 New iPad Jailbreaks

On Friday last week, the Chronic Dev Team released Absinthe 2.0 to install an untethered jailbreak for all devices running iOS 5.1.1. I jailbroke my 3rd-generation iPad last week to gain access to my favorite Cydia tweaks last week, we even put together a video on how to jailbreak the new iPad for those new to jailbreaking. Now according to a tweet by the @chronicdevteam, well over 1 million people have taken advantage of the updated jailbreak tool Absinthe.

Be sure to use Absinthe 2.0.1 to jailbreak your new iPad. There is no need for DFU mode on your new iPad, the software makes it very easy to do!

Dual Dock Connections For iPad

Out On eBay is a prototype for an iPad with both a landscape and portrait dock connection. This item on eBay.com is a 16GB iPad with a standard portrait docking connection, along with a seemingly quite useful landscape docking option. Apple has patents for both designs and this does appear to be a 1st generation iPad with the dual configuration.

This eBay item was sold for $10,200, the first thing I would do with this prototype iPad is jailbreak it? Do you think Apple should have included a landscape dock connection with the original (or new) iPad?
