We've put it into redsn0w 0.9.10 and PwnageTool, and the chronic devteam put it into a Cydia package (the same set of exploits is in all three).

Basics:
● The untether is for iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G
● If you have one of those devices and are not on 5.0.1 yet, update now! The SHSH window is still open for 5.0.1 If you unlock via ultrasn0w or gevey, make sure you only get to 5.0.1 via a custom IPSW! See the guides at places like iClarified.com if you don't know how. Once you're at 5.0.1, use the latest redsn0w 0.9.10 to both jailbreak and untether.
● If you're already at 5.0.1 with a tethered jailbreak, you have two choices: either run redsn0w 0.9.10 over your current jailbreak (deselect "Install Cydia" if you do that), or install the Cydia package prepared by the chronic devteam. The patches are the same regardless of which you choose.
● Some of you are using a hybrid 5.0/5.0.1 configuration. If so, do not attempt to install this untether over that setup! You will most likely get into a reboot cycle. Do a sync and fresh restore to 5.0.1 then install the jailbreak + untether.

You can download the new release of RedSn0w Windows from here and Mac here. We'll be posting instructions on how to perform the untethered jailbreak below.

*Don't forget to give pod2g and the Dev-Teams a big thank you!
** We'd also appreciate if those who speak different languages could submit translations to help those who have difficulty with English.

Read More

Microsoft Office for iPad and iPhone [Coming Soon]

The iPad is wonderful and all that, but it is not without its flaws and weaknesses many of which I expect Apple will address with the next incarnation of the tablet device. However, for those looking to use the current generation iPad as a mobile business tool, Microsoft may be the hero with Docs.

Microsoft and Apple are the developers of three of the most popular operating systems in the world (Windows, iOS & Mac OS X) powering their powers laptops, tablets and phones.
of course nothing of the various iWork for iPad apps can be compared to the real office productivity software like the Microsoft Office 2010, and then the question is why I even have an iPad then. Why not simply use the more robust, more functional, more capable Windows 7 notebook, and stick with Office 2010? the answer of course will be The iPad weighs about a third of what my notebook weighs, is only about a quarter of the thickness, has four to five times the battery life.

the good news is that according to sources Microsoft is now working on an Apple’s tablet version of their popular Microsoft Office software suite,and maybe in a few days we will use that app.

That means there will be a armistice between the 2 tech against Apple and Microsoft ,and maybe we will see duplicate masterpieces tablets in the future.

[via Geohot]

Untethered Jailbreak Completed on iOS 5.0.1

Pod2g has announced the completion of an untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak of the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod 4G, iPod 3G, iPad 1, and Apple TV 2 (4.4.3).

Previously, pod2g said that he would work on jailbreaking the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 after finishing the jailbreaks for the above devices.

Tons of questions from my nice followers. Swipe left or right to jump between Collections.
• Easily adjust your screen brightness to find the perfect lighting for any environment.
• Change the font size and pick from six included type faces to make your books more comfortable to read.
• Find a word, character, or phrase anywhere in your book with the built-in search feature.
• Keep your bookmarks, notes, and your current page wirelessly in sync between iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with the new automatic bookmark syncing feature.
• Quickly find a specific page using the page navigator at the bottom of every page.
• Read your books on white or sepia colored pages.
• Choose left or fully justified text layout from Settings.
• Highlight your favorite passages and add notes with the built-in bookmarking features.
• Add books in the industry-standard ePub electronic book format to iTunes and sync them to iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
• Add PDF documents to iBooks from Mail, or add them to iTunes and sync them to iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
• Print PDF documents and notes you've written in iBooks using AirPrint.
• Use iBooks with the amazing accessibility features in iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch – such as speaking the words on a given page.

Requirements:
• iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch (2nd generation), iPod touch (3rd generation), or iPod touch (4th generation) is required.
• iPhone or iPod touch must have iOS 4 or later.
• The iBookstore is available in many countries. The selection of books in the iBookstore may vary by country.
• An Apple ID is required to download from the iBookstore.
• Automatic bookmark syncing requires an active Wi-Fi or cellular data connection and an Apple ID.
• iBooks only opens books published in the ePub electronic book format or documents in the PDF format.
• To add ePub books from outside the iBookstore to iBooks, they must be DRM-free and synced using iTunes 9.2 or later.
• Some PDF documents may not be compatible with iBooks.

What's New In This Version:
iBooks 1.5 adds the following new features as well as some stability and performance improvements:
• Nighttime reading theme makes reading books in the dark easier on the eyes.
• Full-screen layout lets you focus on the words without distraction.
• iBooks now features an improved selection of fonts, including Athelas, Charter, Iowan, and Seravek.
• Beautiful new classic covers for public domain books.
• A redesigned annotation palette makes it easier to choose a color for your highlighted text.

You can download iBooks from the App Store for free.

Read More

iPad 3 Coming in March and iPhone 5 Gets 4-Inch Screen?

iLounge claimed to gain some news from a 'most reliable source' - iPad 3 will be launch on next March with slightly thicker design, and the next iPhone will have a 4-inch display but abandon the current design with the annoying battery issue.

iPad

The source indicates that the iPad 3 is planned to launch in March and that it will be approximately 0.7 mm thicker than the iPad 2 due to the need to incorporate a dual light bar system for the higher-resolution display. The iPad 2 currently checks in 8.8 mm thick, which would make the iPad 3 approximately 8% thicker than the iPad 2 but still substantially thinner than the 13.4 mm original iPad.

iPhone

iLounge's source claims that the next-generation will not resemble the teardrop "iPhone 5" design that circulated ahead of the iPhone 4S introduction last month. The next iPhone is, however, said to carry a 4-inch display (up from 3.5 inches in the current iPhone) and be 8 mm longer than the current form factor. Apple is said to be targeting a summer launch for the device, which would mark a short interval from the iPhone 4S launch last month. And this one is said to have kept LTE-ready battery drain in mind.

MacBook Pro

The source indicates that 2012 will indeed see the launch of a thinner MacBook Pro form factor, barring any last-minute problems. We've been hearing for some time that Apple has been finishing up work on just such a redesign, although the company did sneak in one last minor refresh using the current form factor just last month. Recent reports have claimed that an ultra-thin 15" Mac notebook, whether it be a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, is on target for a March launch with small volumes of components already making their way through the supply chain.

The battery is really an issue for iPhone ...

via macrumors and iLounge

Guinness World Record for Typing on the iPad [Video]

Gizmodo US video editor Woody Allen Jang has set a Guinness World Record for his typing speed on the iPad.

The team from the recently launched Gizmodo UK took on their US counterparts in a transatlantic tech challenge for Guinness World Records Day. Just lost 2% during a 15 minute shower. I see no difference at all.
● New update is no help at all. Battery drain on my 4S remains after upgrading to 5.0.1! :-/

9to5Mac did a poll of its users and found that 61.7% of those having battery issues reported that iOS 5.0.1 did not solve the problem.

Meanwhile others are reporting new issues with the firmware such as not being able to download apps over the air and incoming calls and texts that don't display the contact name as saved in the address book.

Let us know if you are experiencing any of these issues or others in the comments.

Skype Update Brings Improved Stability on iOS 5

Skype has released an update to its iPhone and iPad app that brings improved stability on iOS 5.

Call, video call and instant message anyone else on Skype for free with Skype for your iPhone or iPod touch. It's compressed using the Speex audio codec, which makes sense as it's a codec specifically tailored for VoIP. The iPhone 4S sends identifiers everywhere. So if you want to use Siri on another device, you still need the identifier of at least one iPhone 4S. Of course we're not publishing ours, but it's very easy to retrieve one using the tools we've written. Of course Apple could blacklist an identifier, but as long as you're keeping it for personal use, that should be alright!

The protocol is actually very, very chatty. Your iPhone sends a tons of things to Apple's servers. And those servers reply an incredible amount of informations. For example, when you're using text-to-speech, Apple's server even reply a confidence score and the timestamp of each word.

Applidium has released the tools they wrote to help them understand the protocol. If you know what you're doing the tools should be enough to help you write a Siri-enabled application.

Hit the link below for more info...

Read More [via Shane]

iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak by GreenPois0n in the Works

We have got iOS 5 tethered jailbreak, but not perfect to use and still not work on iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, so everyone is asking when the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 is coming, the answer is no one knows. The good news is the people behind Greenpois0n are hard at work at turning their exploits into a easy to use jailbreak. P0sixninja tweeted:

Sorry for being quiet. I’ve been in Atlanta visiting my family. Should have enough for iPhone4s now, thanks to all the donations!!

According JBN the best estimate for a release time would be any time in November. The jailbreak is in its early stages and needs to be refined before it is released. One key thing to note is that the jailbreak will work for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 both special because they are built with an A5 processor. The exploits used will not be permanent like the limera1n exploit because they rely on software and not hardware. The new jailbreak will most likely keep the Greenpois0n name and act as an update to the older version. Hopefully we can get an official statement from P0sixninja in the near future.

Semitether Jailbreak Gets Updated to Solve Early Issues

BigBoss has updated his Semitether Jailbreak package to solve some of the issues experienced by beta testers.

A semi-tethered jailbreak is an interim solution which solves the problem of being unable to reboot with a tethered jailbreak. The semi tethered jailbreak by BigBoss will allow you to reboot on the road, but with limited functionality. It is enough that you are no longer stranded, and you can use your phone, text, and many other features. This is just until you get home and can use redsn0w again to "just boot tethered". Once you do that, you're back to fully functional state.

What's New:
● Reworked the app sync conflicts
● Reworked daemon loading order to hopefully solve 2 issues.
1) Reboot after 2 mins on some devices
2) app sync with itunes issue on some devices.

Note: This version now takes 60-90 seconds after reboot and it will respring again then your device should be usable.

You can find instructions on how to install the Semitether here.

BigBoss Releases Semitethered Jailbreak for iOS 5

BigBoss has announced the release of Semitethered jailbreak solution for iOS 5.

As you may know, iOS5 currently has a tethered jailbreak. This means that after you have jailbroken and installed most stuff you care about, you go to reboot your device, and it will no longer boot. You will be either stuck at apple logo forever, or you will get to itunes restore screen. When this happens, you have to hook up to your computer and use redsn0w "just boot" feature which gets you rebooted successfully again.

To get us through this period, I have worked on a semi-tethered solution. The semi-tethered jailbreak will allow you to reboot on the road, but with limited functionality. It is enough that you are no longer stranded, and you can use your phone, text, and many other features. This is just until you get home and can use redsn0w again to "just boot tethered". Once you do that, you're back to fully functional state.

Below is a list of what can be done with a semi-tethered jailbreak. Remember this is only if your phone accidentally powers off and you don't have access to RedSn0w to boot tethered.

1) Can use phone, sms (text messages)
2) Can use every other stock app on iphone.
3) Cannot use mobile safari
4) Can use other appstore web browsers such as atomic web browser
5) Cannot use mail app. You could install a gmail app from appstore or such instead.
6) You cannot use any jailbreak tweak, app, cydia until you boot tethered.
7) While in the semitether booted state, you should not add a jailbreak ios5 notification such as sbsettings to notifications during this state or your device will be stuck in a respring loop until you get home to "boot tethered".

Clearly this is far better than being stuck at the Apple logo until you can reach a computer. You can find instructions on how to set the Semitether jailbreak here.

Read More

How to Set a Semi Tethered Jailbreak of iOS 5

These are instructions on how to perform a semi tethered jailbreak of your iOS 5 iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

This is just until you get home and can use redsn0w again to “just boot tethered”. Once you do that, you’re back to fully functional state.

Step One
Jailbreak and boot your device tethered using the instructions below: (if you not jailbreak yet)

- Jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch (Mac, Windows)

- Jailbreak your iPhone4, 3Gs without update baseband (Mac)

Step Two

=> Launch Cydia

=> Manage Tap

=> Source Button

=> Edit

=> Add

=> Input http://thebigboss.org/semitether

=> Add Source

=> Press Return to Cydia

=> Select thebigboss.org from the list of Sources

=> Select SemiTether from the list of Packages

=> Press Install and then Press Confirm

=> Press the large Reboot Device button.

You're device will now reboot without stalling at the Apple logo!

To get full functionality back you will need to boot tethered. Launch RedSn0w as you did in Step One then select Extras then Just boot from the menu.

<img style="border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; the applications by default during the redsn0w run. This reduces the time to actually perform the jailbreak from 210 seconds to 80 seconds (60 percent!). However, you make up for much of that the first time you launch Cydia, which will then want to stash the applications. You can choose whether you want redsn0w or Cydia to stash in the Preferences pane.

You can download the new RedSn0w updates for Mac <a href="https://sites.google.com/a/iphone-dev.com/files/home/redsn0w_mac_0.9.9b7.zip?attredirects=0&d=1"

What the flaw allows:
The person who unlocks your iPad 2 will not have complete access to your iPad, but will be able to gain entrance to whatever you locked your iPad 2 on. If your iPad 2 went to sleep in Mail, Safari, Messages, Contacts, or Maps, you can imagine the sorts of personal information that can be viewed on your iPad.

If your iPad was on the home screen when you locked it, someone trying to break in can only control media and see what applications you have installed.

Steps to Recreate:
1) Lock a password protected iPad 2
2) Hold down power button until iPad 2 reaches turn off slider
3) Close Smart Cover
4) Open Smart Cover
5) Click cancel on the bottom of the screen

To get around this bug you can disable Smart Cover unlocking from the Settings:General menu. Hopefully Apple resolves it soon.

Read More

How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad1 iOS [5.0] Using RedSn0w (Windows)

These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad1 on the 5.0 firmware using RedSn0w for Windows. Non-public IPSWs must be provided manually (once). It then caches those pieces for future use.
● "Just boot" is a tethered boot. Uses whatever "Preferences" you've set for boot logo and kernel boot-args
● "Pwned DFU" puts your device in a pwned DFU state for some of the iTunes stuff detailed below
● "Recovery fix" gets past 1015 types of errors (when baseband portion of restore fails). Should work on iOS5 beta too
● "Select IPSW" is for picking non-public IPSWs, or overriding auto-detection
● "SHSH blobs" has a bunch of options…
● "Fetch" - fetch current PARTIAL blobs on device. Puts this set PARTIAL of blobs on your computer as a plist. Checks if Cydia already has a full set for this device and build. If not, it submits this partial set and returns Cydia's acknowledgement or rejection
● "Verify" - cryptographically verifies existing blob files from either redsn0w, TinyUmbrella, or Cydia server. You can select a whole bunch of blobs to verify at once if you want (like the TinyUmbrella directory)
● "Submit" - both verifies and submits one or more blob files to Cydia. This lets you copy your entire TinyUmbrella cache of blobs up to the Cydia server
● "Query" - queries the Cydia server for all available full or partial blobs for a given set of ECIDs
● "Stitch" - stitches either FULL or PARTIAL blobs to a STOCK or CUSTOM IPSW
1. FULL blobs stitched to a STOCK IPSW gives you a completely self-contained signed IPSW that iTunes will accept without any tricks (no need to go into pwned DFU mode, no need to start TinyUmbrella TSS server, no need to redirect to Cydia server for blobs)
2. PARTIAL blobs stitched to any IPSW requires you to go into pwned DFU mode before running iTunes. No need to start TU or use Cydia though.
3. stitching either FULL or PARTIAL blobs to a CUSTOM IPSW also requires a pwned DFU start before iTunes restores. No need to start TU or use Cydia though.
4. stitching is NOT yet supported on iPhones (well, at least not tested). Need to work out the baseband part of the restore process.
5. will eventually support fetching the blobs directly from Cydia instead of a file on your computer

You can download the new version of RedSn0w from here: (Windows, Mac).
