It’ѕ agаіn а sіgn оf ѕlіghtly under-pаr mаchіning from Apple, but in dау to day usе it’s аlmоѕt сomplеtely іnviѕible.

The dесisіon to mоvе the 3.5mm heаdphоne jасk tо the bottom is an odd оnе, аѕ while it allоws yоu tо ѕlір thе phonе іnto thе pосkеt hеаd-first whеn listenіng tо muѕіc, which іs a morе nаtural aсtiоn, іt’ѕ a rеаl paіn іn thе pоѕteriоr fоr some аpрs that wіll оnly wоrk іn lаndѕсаpе а сertаіn wау uр.

Uѕіng it this waу mеаnѕ your heаdрhоnеѕ еxреrіеnсе will be one оf having tо jіggle thе јack аround two fіngers.

It’s not the most сomfortablе wаy tо hold а phоne, аnd evеn when usіng thе рhonе in роrtrаit mоdе, the jасk gеts іn thе waу ѕomewhat. Plus it’s mіlеѕ away frоm the vоlume keуѕ, whiсh makeѕ it hard to chаngе thе audіо lеvel in thе роckеt if уou don’t uѕe the dеdіcаtеd hеadрhones.

Thеrе аre other ѕmаllеr deѕіgn сhаngeѕ to the iPhone 5 toо, ѕuсh aѕ the iSіght frоnt-fасіng cаmera movіng tо thе mіddlе аnd thе hоme button bеing nоtісeablу mоre robust to hеlp reduсe inѕtances of a brоkеn portаl tо уоur home ѕсrеen.

But enough about whаt the phоne looks lіkе – the kіller questiоn iѕ hоw the thіng feеls in hаnd. And wе’ll ѕum it up by sауіng: smоoth. It’s a little ѕliррerу, аnd wе wеre аlways worriеd we would drор the dаrned thing.

But thаt’ѕ thе only negatіvе thing about thе dеѕign (apart from thе lоw weіght іnitіаllу and sсrаtchіng аluminіum) aѕ it sіts in the palm nicelу аnd allows you tо do it all with one hаnd, іnсluding hitting the top-mountеd рowеr/lock button with еаѕе.

Thаt lock buttоn iѕ actuallу ѕtill looѕe, as it wаѕ оn thе іPhоnе 4S, meaning when уоu shakе thе phonе аrоund you cаn hear іt cliсking аwау, whіch undoеѕ a lоt of thе рrеmіum feеl Apрlе is goіng fоr.

Makе no mistаke, the iPhone 5 is оnе of the most bеautіfully сraftеd phonеѕ оut therе – but whеn уоu’rе рaуing £529 up front fоr thе thing, we’d hорe thіѕ wоuld be the vеrу mіnіmum Aрple wоuld be dоing.

And while it loоks nіcе, from thе front it dоesn’t rеаllу add muсh to thе desіgn of thе iPhоne – it’s cеrtаіnly nоt the sаmе aѕ thе јaw-droрріng desіgn оf the іPhone 4 compаrеd to thе 3GS… іt’ѕ anothеr еvоlution in thе iLine.

It’s not bad, but for thosе that hoреd thе iPhonе 5 would bе аnоthеr stеp сhange there’s a goоd сhanсe thеу’ll bе disaрpоіntеd аbоut thе look… untіl theу fеel the lоvelу bасk оn offеr.

Therе wаѕ а real chаnce hеrе fоr Apple: remove the bеzel and gіvе thе front of the ѕcrееn а lоok that’s simіlar to thе OLED TVs frоm thе lіkеѕ оf Sаmѕung оr LG… but inѕtеаd wе’rе treаted to thе sаme lines аѕ befоre.

It’s the start of a brand new month and so far, September looks to be a great month for potential iPhone 5 buyers. Yesterday many Apple insiders, media professionals and developers were sent mysterious invitations from Apple for an upcoming press event. The event is set to happen on September 12th. See that shadow below the 12? It sure looks a lot like a 5, doesn’t it? Many experts–and us included–think that this is Apple’s way of subtlety hinting at an iPhone 5 announcement at this event. We obviously won’t know for sure until the date is upon us, but the odds are good that Apple will show off the new iPhone next Wednesday(!). All signs point toward a September 21st release date.

Perhaps more exciting than this is the leak of more iPhone 5 images this week. This follows last week’s leak of the new iPhone’s inner components, which gave us a pretty good idea of what to expect from the new device. These latest images come from iResQ and show us the difference between the iPhone 4S and the new iPhone 5. And the differences are quite big, as the images below show.

From the images above, a couple things become strikingly apparent. The first is that the iPhone 5 in these pictures features a much smaller dock connector. This is consistent with what’s been reported for many months now–and it’s bad news for those who were hoping for the same old dock connector. No word on if or when Apple will release an accessory that makes it possible to use old accessories with the new connector.

Secondly, you can see that the new iPhone is bigger yet slimmer, and also equipped with a much bigger screen. We’re thinking the screen is about 4.3 inches given the comparison to the iPhone 5.

Way back in February 2012, we got our hands on reported World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2012 leaked images. These images were discovered by a source and given to us. We’re not going to get into the features that these images revealed (more on that later),  but the most important thing to mention about these images is that they show an apparent June 2012 release date for the iPhone 5, given Apple’s past preference to release the new iPhone shortly following WWDC.

Then a short time later, a Japanese blog reported that the new iPhone would be released in Fall 2012–likely September or October. They claimed that this was confirmed by a very reliable source. We’re still not entirely sure that this Japanese blog is credible; however, their opinion has been backed up by other sources.

In April/May 2012, we reported a lot on the potential iPhone 5 release date. Two analysts were quoted as saying that the next iPhone would come out in either September or October; two experts also mentioned a Fall release date.

However, there are still those who think a June 2012 release date as possible, based largely on what the WWDC 2012 logo may reveal as well as what some sources are reporting.

WWDC, however, came and went without a mention of the iPhone 5. Despite that, we did hear a lot about iOS 6, the likely operating system for the iPhone 5. It’s now looking like a September debut is most likely.

Our Verdict: The new iPhone release date will most likely be in September 2012.

iPhone 5 Features

This is yet another area in which we’ve heard a ton of rumors. We’ve heard a lot about the features that the next iPhone may–and may not–have. Although none of these features are 100% confirmed at this point (and let’s face it, they’re not going to be 100% confirmed until an official Apple spokesperson announces them or until the device is actually in our hands), most of them look likely to be included in the iPhone 5. Below you’ll find a round-up of all of the potential iPhone 5 features.

iPhone 5 Design

The iPhone 5 Design–sometimes referred to as the form factor–has been a hot button topic for many months now. We’ve heard many, many rumors about just what the new iPhone may look like in terms of shape and feel.

Back in January 2012, we first heard that the next iPhone would be getting a slimmer profile and that it would be a “monster upgrade,” according to analyst Gene Munster. The slimmer profile was said to be thanks to improvements in the size of the hardware.

Next came the infamous WWDC 2012 iPhone 5 leaked images which showed an iPhone that appeared to have a curved back. The design, as pictured below, appears to be a return to Apple’s previously curved iPhones and a huge departure from the rectangular design of the iPhone 4 and 4S.

In Late-April, we reported on the possibility of a Liquidmetal design. The design would mean that the iPhone 5 would sport a metal back, thus making it a little less fragile than the 4S’ glass back. While these rumors still aren’t confirmed, Apple does have a contract with Liquidmetal, so it’s looking likely that we’ll see a Liquidmetal iPhone in the near future.

Later on that same month, we were given information from a source that the next iPhone would have what is known as a Unibody design. The Unibody iPhone 5 would be one piece, which, again, would make the device a heckuva lot less fragile.

In May 2012, a report came out that the device would be coming with a flat back, which contradicts the WWDC images but does fall in line with a possible Liquidmetal or Unibody iPhone 5 design.

In June, we saw additional potentially leaked images of the iPhone 5. These show a slimmer, longer device.

The iPhone 5 has also been reported to receive a smaller dock connector. This is either a mini dock connector or may be a Thunderbolt port.

Our Verdict: The iPhone 5 is most likely to have a Liquidmetal design, given Apple’s existing agreement with Liquidmetal.

iPhone 5 4G LTE Possibility

With the iPad 3′s 4G LTE connectivity, it now looks more certain than ever before that the new iPhone will be the first 4G LTE iPhone. This isn’t too surprising as we’ve been hearing whispers of it dating back to December 2011. The rumors only intensified in February with those aforementioned leaked images showing a 4G LTE logo. Since then, the news about a 4G LTE iPhone has largely slowed down–save for the occasional analyst prediction or two–and that’s mostly because 4G LTE is a foregone conclusion at this point.

Our Verdict: If there’s one thing for certain, it’s that this will be the first 4G LTE iPhone. Bank on it.

iPhone 5 Display And Size

For years now, one thing about the iPhone has remained the same: its display size. We’ve been given the same 3.5″ inch display on every iPhone released to date. While many users are happy with this, many others have been calling for a bigger display. And there’s certainly been a lot of rumors about the iPhone 5 display size.

Those WWDC 2012 images showed what appears to be an iPhone with a 4″ inch or possibly larger display. Subsequent reports in March and April seemed to indicate the same thing, with some sources even going so far as saying that the iPhone 5 would have a massive 4.6″ inch Retina display.

Then came the rumors that the new iPhone would actually keep the same 3.5″ inch display. Those rumors have been few and far between as compared with the talk of a bigger display.

In April we were given information that the new iPhone would actually come in two varieties: one with a 3.5″ inch display and another with a 4″ inch or larger display, dubbed the iPhone XL. Around the same time, we were also told about a possible iPhone Nano. Both ideas seem unlikely at this point, though who knows with Apple.

As far as the actual display of the iPhone 5 goes, we’ve heard tons on the subject. We’ve heard about a possible Gorilla Glass display, potential 16 x 9 display aspect ratio, and perhaps even an Edge-to-Edge display design. Recently, we even heard that the new iPhone would have an unbreakable display.

The idea of a bendable display, however, is not likely at this point.

Our Verdict: A 4″ inch iPhone is to be expected at this point; we feel that the display may either be Gorilla Glass or some sort of similar material.

iPhone 5 NFC Possibility

The idea of being able to use your smart phone has always been an intriguing idea–and it’s certainly been one that Apple has been thinking about implementing into the iPhone for quite some time.

The rumor of Near Field Communications (NFC) technology being implemented into the iPhone 5 started way back in February with a report. It was then given more credibility thanks to a patent filed by Apple. Yet another patent, this one released in April, also appeared to show NFC in action on the next iPhone.

In June, the NFC rumor again showed up in the press with a possible integration into the iOS 6 app Passbook.

Our Verdict: We’d say an NFC iPhone 5 looks very, very likely at this point. Almost as likely as 4G LTE.

iPhone 5 Camera

Believe it or not, one iPhone 5 spec that we haven’t heard a lot of information about is the camera for the device. That’s somewhat surprising as with previous iPhones, this has been one of the biggest topics for rumors.

We have heard a few things about the new iPhone’s camera. It’s been rumored to have a 3D camera, which we personally don’t see happening. It’s also been said to possibly be getting a Sony CMOS image sensor, which would improve the camera’s ability to take photos in dark lighting.

And there have been, of course, the talk of the iPhone 5 coming with a higher megapixel camera. It’s possible that the camera may upgrade may be anywhere from 10MP-14MP.

In June we even heard that the iPhone 5 camera may come with changeable lenses; however, this is far from confirmed at this point.

Our Verdict: The iPhone 5 will have a higher megapixel camera that is capable of taking even better quality shots than the iPhone 4S. Removable lenses possible.

Waterproof iPhone 5?

Here’s a feature we’ve all been hoping for and still may potentially happen. Way back in early February we were told about a possible partnership formed between waterproofing technology experts Liquipel and Apple. It was said that a new waterproof iPhone 5 was set to be created through the partnership. We haven’t heard much since then, however.

Our Verdict: A waterproof new iPhone is still possible; however, we think it might just be delayed til the iPhone 6.

iPhone 5 Cost

There actually haven’t been many rumors on this subject; just speculation from many sources (including us). As far as we can tell, the iPhone 5′s cost will remain unchanged for the regular 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models. However, we think Apple may consider a price hike depending on if the waterproofing technology actually makes it to the device and if multiple sizes of the iPhone 5 are released (with the smaller ones obviously being cheaper and the bigger display ones being more expensive).

Our Verdict: The cost of the new iPhone should be the same as it always is–$199 to $399 with contract and $549-$799 without contract.

Despite the fact that the iPhone 5 is now likely less than a month away from release, we really haven’t been treated to a lot of juicy iPhone 5 news as of late. Sure, we’ve heard rumors of when the new iPhone will be available for preorder and we’ve seen some pictures of components, but honestly, August has been a pretty slow month for news. That’s why we’re pretty excited about today’s article, as we’ve finally been treated to additional photos of the iPhone 5 that have apparently leaked. And these photos give an excellent idea of just what the new iPhone is going to look like.

The photos come courtesy of Sino Consumer Electronics Trade. Although, obviously, we can’t say with 100% certainty that these are actual photos of the next iPhone, they do look a little too realistic to be fakes. As you can see from the first iPhone 5 photo below, the new iPhone looks to have a bigger display than the iPhone 4S (which is on the left). That’s what we’ve been hearing for months now, so that’s no real surprise. What is surprising, however, is that the FaceTime camera has been moved to the middle of the new iPhone.

We can tell from the above photo that the new Apple device will have a 4 inch or possibly 4.3 inch display. From the photo below, we can see that the iPhone 5 will be slimmer than its older iPhone brothers. Additionally, you can see that the new, smaller dock connector is there. That’s just another sign that the iPhone 5 will be coming with the new dock connector we’ve been hearing about over the past few months.

According to Sino, these photos indicate that the iPhone 5 will come with an “LCD touch screen digitizer,” “front panel frame,” and a “home button.” This refutes previous claims that the new iPhone won’t have a physical home button. Oddly enough, there’s no mention of the often rumored Liquidmetal or Unibody design. There’s also no indication, from the new pictures, that the iPhone 5 will have a Gorilla Glass display or anything similar to that. That’s not to say that it can’t happen, just that this “leak” doesn’t show that.

So, readers, what do you think of these photos?

As the iPhone 5 release date draws nearer, we’re going to be hearing a lot more about the iPhone 5 than what we’ve been hearing as of late. We’ll inevitably hear more about the iPhone 5 features, such as, how big the display will be, how much RAM the device will come with and even how many megapixels the camera will come with. But perhaps most important of all of these is just when the new device will actually hit stores. Some new reports suggest that both the pre-order and actual release date may be a lot sooner than we all have been thinking.

According to reports from both news sites and Foxconn employees who have “leaked” information, the iPhone 5 is set to be announced shortly before September 12th, 2012. It is expected, say the sources, that the new iPhone will be available for pre-order on September 12th–which is a Wednesday. Given past iPhone launches, the device will likely ship about 7-9 days after this, which puts it on pace for a September 21st, 2012 release date–which is a Friday. That’s roughly in line with what we’ve previously reported here, but is a few weeks earlier than the iPhone 4S release date of October 14th, 2011.

So what carriers will the iPhone 5 be available on? It will definitely be available for pre-ordering through Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and of course the Apple store. It is expected to be available on other international carriers, and may eventually make its way to T-Mobile–though that’s not 100% confirmed at this point. It’s worth noting that the anticipation for the iPhone 5 is starting to negatively impact iPhone 4S sales, as many stores have cut the price of the device. We expect Apple and the others to knock the iPhone 4S price down to $99 once the iPhone 5 hits stores.

What can you expect from the iPhone 5? Well, for starters, it will feature the brand new iOS 6, so it will be the first iPhone to come with turn-by-turn navigation built in, Facebook integration and a whole lot more. After weeks of not hearing much in the way of news about the upcoming iPhone 5–aside from potential release dates, of course–it seems that the iPhone 5 rumor mill has been on fire as of late. Last week we heard about the iPhone 5 release date (September 23 for those keeping track at home) and even got a possible glimpse at the new iPhone, courtesy of a Chinese case designer. It looks like the rumor mill is continuing to fire on all cylinders heading into this week, as the next iPhone’s components have reportedly been leaked. And the pictures of said components provide us with a pretty good idea of what the iPhone 5 may look like.

Our latest iPhone 5 image leaks come from a Japanese smartphone repair company. This company, known as iLab Factory, has actually posted a big variety of photos of what it says are new iPhone parts and components. The company has presumably gotten its hands on these components so that they can prepare for the onslaught of iPhone 5 repair requests that is sure to follow the launch of Apple’s latest and greatest device.

Although these two pictures don’t show a ton of the next iPhone, they do show enough to give us an idea of what components will make up the new device. It’s evident from the photos above that the next iPhone will be taller than the previous iPhones; however, by the same token, it will not be any wider. This seems to indicate that the iPhone 5 display will be somewhere closer to 4 inches, rather than the previously speculated 4.3-4.8 inches.

Another thing that we can see from the pictures is that the dock connector will in fact be smaller. This just falls in line with the previous reports of a 19 pin dock connector. In other words, at this point, we highly doubt that the next iPhone will have the same dock connector as all the other iPhones on the market.

You can also see from the pictures above that the SIM tray appears to be smaller. That also falls in line with the old reports of an even smaller SIM tray than the microSIM currently featured in the iPhone.

Lastly, you can see that the iPhone in these pictures appears to have a unibody, liquidmetal design. This is somewhat surprising as we’ve been hearing lately that the next Apple device won’t have Liquidmetal or a Unibody design. The iPhone pictured also has a bigger speaker grill and a headphone jack on the bottom, which is obviously different from the other iPhones.

More than anything, most people just want to know when the iPhone 5 is actually hitting stores. And based on our last post, it appears that date is most likely September 23, 2012, with an official announcement coming the week before that.  Next to the release date, the next most desired piece of information from iPhone 5 consumers is what the device will look like. We’ve been treated to many purported leaked images, including some that we debuted back in February. However, the images that were leaked today may be an even more realistic representation of the iPhone 5 than any of the previously shown images on iPhone5Latest.com.

As has been the case with previous Apple product image leaks–such as the iPhone 4S–our latest iPhone 5 image leak come courtesy of a manufacturer. The manufacturer in this case is a Chinese case manufacturer who has decided to use a prototype iPhone (potentially an iPhone 5) in images for their upcoming line of iPhone cases. The case shown in the picture below appears to be a white hardshell case that “snaps on” to the iPhone 5. It’s not indicated if the case will come in other styles or color varieties–although obviously that piece of information isn’t as important as the iPhone 5 in the case.

Based on the picture above, it’s clear that this iPhone is different in a few ways. For one, you’ve got a longer, wider screen. We’re not sure how big the iPhone 5 display will be, though we’ve heard it will probably be somewhere between 4-4.5 inches. The case and iPhone 5 shown seems to prove what these sources have been saying in recent weeks about the display size.

Secondly–and perhaps most importantly, given our recent talk of smaller dock sizes–the iPhone 5 in this image has a much smaller dock connector. Again, it’s not 100% clear from the picture just how much smaller the dock connector is compared to the iPhone 4S dock connector–but it looks to be somewhere in the range of 19-21 pins. If Apple does indeed go ahead with the smaller dock connector, this will render the iPhone 5 incompatible with the older style cables and accessories. That’s obviously not good news for iPhone owners who want to use their current accessories on the iPhone 5.

Lastly the iPhone 5 in this picture is much different from older iPhones in that it appears Apple has decided to move the headphone jack from the top left of the iPhone to the bottom left of the iPhone 5. For iPod Touch owners, this is quite familiar as that’s where the headphone jack on the iPod Touch sits. Personally, we’re not a fan of the move as we think the headphone jack works best on top–but Apple obviously must have something that tells them this is a good idea. We’ll see if it actually happens, though.
