Overall the game is lots of fun, with the key elements of the PS3 version, but on the iPhone. Graphics are pretty good considering, and the picking pocket challenges are fun. I’ll write a more formal review after I’ve had time to play the game, and I’ll add updated screenshots with explanations of the icons, etc. at that time also. For a quick game fix, I think this is a winner.

Today we’re reviewing the MoonPhase application by RomanDuck Software, available for $0.99. This is one of those great apps that serve a specific purpose for reference information that’s timely and with a nice interface. Sometimes I want to know the moon phases to time a fishing trip, or to know the precise moment I’m going to turn into a werewolf (its good to plan in advance). With this handy app I can roll the clock forward in time or jump to the next full moon. In the following screen-capture you can see how gorgeous the user interface is for MoonPhase, here showing tonight’s moon in all its glory.

To easy navigation, you can get a select menu that shows you when the next full moon or no moon will be in an easy to use interface. The buttons to toggle the filter need some cleanup, I think they’re too beveled and they don’t match the rest of the app.

You can easily switch between 3 different renderings of the moon, of which I preferred the Real rendering the best. Your choices include Real, Cartoon, and of course, Cheese. What kinda cheese is that anyway, eeww…

For werewolves like me who need a handy reminder, there’s a werewolf alarm which presumably alerts you when a full moon is out but I don’t know what it really does yet.

The UI also lets you toggle between the northern, equator, or southern hemisphere. I’m no astronomer (I recall failing that in college), but I think the three options relate to the hemisphere you’re viewing the moon from. I’ve set mine to equator since we’re pretty close to it here in Hawaii.

Overall this is a great app, one of my favorites. Does a few things really well, in a nice UI, and its obvious the developers took the time to think this app through. Very nice. Highly recommended if you’re into this sort of thing. At the time of this review it had 12 reviews for an average of 4 stars. I’d agree with that, 4 out of 5 stars for MoonPhase.
