style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 245px; height: 237px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5jocIGTsYTA/ThVbCbvnsNI/AAAAAAAACAQ/Enu1pcvia2Q/s400/Preschool-Apps-for-iPhone.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5626503406834659538" />
The iPhone and iPad, as everyone knows, are two highly popular, bestselling gadgets from Apple. The iPhone is a smart phone that can be used to make calls, send text and email messages, read books on, play music and videos, browse the Internet, and many more. The number of applications that can be downloaded and used on the iPhone is only limited by its storage capacity-and the purse of the iPhone owner. Some applications (or "apps" for short) are free, while others cost a certain amount, usually $1 or $2 for the most popular apps. On the other hand, the iPad is a much larger tablet device, which is used mainly for connecting online, reading books, and playing multimedia files. Basically, the iPad can do all the things that the iPhone is capable of, except make calls and send text messages. (There are some iPad apps that do allow the sending of texts, but with certain restrictions.)

In short, the iPhone and the iPad are much the same in terms of what they can do. Their glaring difference is that the iPhone is a phone, and the iPad is not. In other words, the iPhone can be-and is primarily-used to make phone calls, while the iPad is more like a netbook or portable personal computer. Another difference that stands out is their sizes. The iPhone has a 480×320 touchscreen, while the iPad has a much larger one that measures 1024×768 pixels. Looking at the two devices, about six iPhone units can be placed on the surface of an iPad.

The size difference is a key factor in comparing iPad and iPhone apps. Practically all iPhone apps (except those for making calls) may be downloaded on the iPad. The apps will work pretty much the same except that they will appear bigger to fit the larger iPad touchscreen. But not all apps meant for the iPad will work on the smaller iPhone. Apps that are native to the iPad use greater detail to take advantage of the larger touchscreen space. If these apps could be "shrunk" on the smaller iPhone screen, they wouldn't look as great-in fact, they might as well be unreadable. This is the reason why native iPad apps cannot be downloaded to an iPhone. But, just to make a point clear, the reverse can be done: most iPhone apps can be downloaded to and used on an iPad.

Examples of native iPad apps that won't work on the iPhone are magazine and newspaper apps. On the iPad, a magazine spread looks great and is very readable. But imagine the same on an iPhone screen. The pictures and text in a magazine or newspaper article won't simply fit on the smaller space.

Can it be said then that apps are better on the iPad than on the iPhone? This is close to the truth, but it's not quite there yet. While it is true that practically all iPhone apps can migrate to and function well on the iPad, an aesthetic loss is incurred in the process. Apps that are native to the iPhone, when viewed in an enlarged manner on the iPad, look less sharp, more pixelated. One may see jagged edges and blurry parts on the graphics of these apps. This naturally results from enlarging or doubling graphics originally composed for a smaller screen. This effect is known as "pixel doubling."

To correct pixel doubling, the iPad user is given the option to view a native iPhone app in its original, smaller size. Thus, on the iPad, the app will occupy just about one-half of the screen. For some native iPhone apps, there is also an option to download a higher-resolution version. With this, the app looks great on the iPad as it does on the iPhone.

There too are apps that have both iPad and iPhone versions. The user simply has to download the correct version to enjoy the apps with all their graphics and functionality intact.

Find reviews on new apps for iPhone and iPod touch, ipad games, and everything else at AppCraver.com, a website dedicated to app reviews for all of the iDevices.

  contribute: ezinearticles.com

In motion, AT&T's was faster, but stationary the opposite was true.

The Verizon iPhone 4 is slower than its AT&T counterpart, according to Metrico, a company that tests mobile device performance. This bit of bad news for the long-awaited device follows reports that it additionally suffers from antenna signal loss when held in the "death grip" — a phrase coined after the release of the AT&T iPhone 4, which was found to drop reception bars when in held in a specific, but mostly natural, way.

According to the Metrico report released March 7, differences it discovered between the Verizon iPhone 4, which is based on CDMA technology, and the GSM-based AT&T iPhone 4 depend on how the smartphone is being used.

"The AT&T iPhone experienced double the mean data download speed of the Verizon iPhone," the firm said in a statement, " but the mean load time for an average Web page was about the same on both devices."

Metrico also found differences when the devices were being used in motion — in a car, say. "The AT&T iPhone successfully completed around 20 percent more data download sessions than the Verizon iPhone," reported the firm. "The results were opposite when the iPhones were stationary; the Verizon iPhone was more consistent uploading data when stationary in comparison to the AT&T iPhone, with a 10 percent success rate."

The findings echo those of early reviewers. The Wall Street Journal's Walter Mossberg, in a Feb. 3 review, reported that he performed "scores of speed tests" on the two iPhones, which he mostly used in Washington D.C., Virginia, Maryland and, for a day, Chicago. "Despite a few Verizon victories here and there, AT&T's network averaged 46 percent faster at download speeds and 24 percent faster at upload speeds," wrote Mossberg. The differences were most notable, he found, when the phones were being asked to perform labor-intensive tasks, such as downloading large numbers of e-mails.

"AT&T's speeds varied more while Verizon's were more consistent, but overall, AT&T was more satisfying at cellular data," Mossberg concluded.

David Pogue's experience, reviewing the iPhones for The New York Times, was one that has made so many folks look forward to the iPhone on the Verizon network. He drove around San Francisco — an Achilles' heel for AT&T iPhone coverage — dialing a landline number. Over the course of 30 minutes, the AT&T iPHone dropped the call four times, while Verizon's held it continuously.

Metrico additionally compared the iPhones to other devices on their respective networks. It found the AT&T iPhone to rank near the top on download and upload speeds, "with comparable performance to the Sony Ericsson Xperia, the LG Quantum and the HTC Surround." The Verizon iPhone, however, ranked "below average in data download speed relative to other Verizon smartphones like the HTC Incredible."

The Smartphone Mobile Experience evaluation testing that the phones underwent offer carriers and original equipment manufacturers information with which they can establish a scientifically derived user-experience baseline, Richard McNally, Metrico vice president, said in the statement. Metrico's performance evaluation included performing more than 10,000 Web page downloads, more than 2,000 upload tests and placing nearly 4,000 voice calls.

"The mobile industry is competing on performance, and anecdotal performance information isn't good enough to drive management and marketing decisions," McNally added.

The Verizon iPhone 4 has inspired a number of organizations and Web sites to run performance tests of their own. Consumer Reports found that having a finger on various parts of the phone can cause a "meaningful decline in performance," and so was unable to recommend it. Tech site iLounge held the Verizon iPhone in various bear-hugging ways and noticed a "dramatic, dramatic slowdown" in upload speeds. I’ll buy it then.” But what will a Verizon iPhone really change? Let’s think this through.

First, expect iPhone sales to surpass Droid sales for a brief period and then level off. My friend (a former Hell’s Angel) told me how a Verizon rep sold his niece a Droid X explaining that it was as good as the iPhone. After seeing my her uncle’s iPhone, however, she was gravely disappointed and repeated the litany to herself, albeit with some trepidation as the rumor of iPhone’s apparition on Verizon has been a long time coming. This time, however, we’re almost certain that the prayer will come true. Before you Droid-heads start flaming, accept that, at least until Honeycomb, when Verizon has the iPhone its Droid sales will dip.

Second, expect nothing to change in terms of iPhone development over the next few years. I agree with Gruber in his belief that Verizon will sell a CDMA iPhone and not an LTE model. The GSM and CDMA models will be upgraded concurrently but there is no reason for Apple to release a “better” model on either platform (even LTE) until all carriers converge to LTE.

Next, expect a banner year for Verizon. Last year was more of a pennant year as subscribers flocked to AT&T and their profits tumbled. That will not happen in 2011.

Fourth, expect Apple make this announcement quietly and without fanfare. I doubt His Steve-ness will even show up to the event on Tuesday, if that is, in fact, what the announcement is about. Maybe he’ll appear on a screen, benevolently beaming down on the faithful who masochistically stuck with the phone on AT&T and who will be gravely disappointed when they can no longer roam internationally. But considering the iPod Touch has become a Wi-Fi phone that works everywhere, we’re looking at the reduction of carrier control in mobile anyway, so who cares?

Now, for the bad news. The Verizon iPhone won’t be much better than the AT&T iPhone when it comes to reception and data transmission – at least not yet. Even anecdotally, as evidenced by this Ars survey, most users use a little more than 200MB of data a month with outliers hitting over 1GB of data. That’s 200MB per iPhone and there are a total of about 11 million AT&T iPhones floating around out there. According to AppleInsider, Verizon sold an estimated 4.4 million Droids. Verizon has 92 million subscribers while AT&T has 90 million. So 11 million AT&T subscribers are slamming the network while 4 million Droid-ites are tapping Verizon’s network gently. So what happens, then, when the iPhone effect hits Verizon, especially on Verizon’s older, slower CDMA network? Verizon will experience the exact issue that has been plaguing AT&T: the curse of success.

Contrary to popular belief, AT&T isn’t hobbling iPhone calls and data service out of malice or ignorance. It just hard to serve that much data to that many people. Last Monday in Las Vegas, for example, I had perfect iPhone reception. Add 130,000 people – all but a few of them iPhone users – to the network during CES and you’ve got a mess. I couldn’t make a call or get an email all week. What’s going to happen when Verizon iPhones roll into the same town? Even if you split iPhones evenly (and you won’t, because international users will drive up the GSM-based iPhone count) you’re still overloading both networks. What’s Verizon going to do? Send the Can You Hear Me Now guy to install new cells? Mark my words – Verizon’s vaunted connectivity and coverage will plummet. Heck, if I were a conspiracy theorist I’d note that Verizon’s website no longer touts its coverage to avoid potential class action lawsuits.

The Verizon iPhone won’t be a solution to the many problems folks in urban areas like San Francisco and Manhattan are experiencing. In fact, it just spreads the pain to two carriers.

However, it’s nice to know someone is listening, even a few years after the fact. Steve is truly good and kind.

Resource : techcruch

Whether you're too lazy to get out of bed or off the couch, or in case you just want to show off to your friends, Touch Mouse is an awesome piece of software for controlling your computer from a distance. See also: Remote is an app that lets you control your iTunes from over Wi-Fi and VNC lets you actually see and control your computer screen from your mobile device. Now that's nifty.

$3.99 This one's for the old-school, hardcore gamers. Originally released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1987, Final Fantasy is one of the most influential and most successful role-playing games ever, providing the basis for a brilliant franchise and inspiring a generation of copycats. Be warned, though: this isn't your flashy CityVille or Angry Birds. Also, I lied. This is the only app on this list that costs money ($3.99), but come on! It's a classic! See also: anything developed by Square Enix.

FREE Too obvious? Well then allow me to use this space to make a confession: for the longest time, I was not sold on the astronomical value Twitter's creators, investors and users placed on the service. That slowly changed once I downloaded the official app, a rebranded and slightly redesigned version of Atebits' Tweetie, that quickly put third-parties like Twitterific and EchoFon out in the cold. Now, following all my favorite musicians and record labels, local news providers and friends, I can hardly imagine living without this time-wasting information network. See also: um.. Facebook?

FREE If you're a loser like me and still love reading literature and poetry, you probably already have your iPad or Kindle stocked with electronic versions of all the classics. But when it comes to poetry, sometimes it's best to read something completely serendipitous. The POETRY app from the Poetry Foundation lets users discover new and old poems by selecting between moods (optimism, passion, etc.) and topics (family, nature, etc.). Results include poems by T.S. Eliot, Pablo Neruda, Lucille Clifton, Emily Dickinson and more. See also: iBooks.

$0.99 Look at all you fancy, technological people with all your Last.fm's and Pandora's; don't you miss the gritty, personal feel of real radio? Okay, maybe not, but Tunemark Radio came through for me when I needed a way to hear my college's independent radio station when I was far from campus and far from a computer. You can add a station to your favorites either by entering the station's stream URL (if you know it) or by browsing stations by genre, built into the app. See also: Last.fm, Pandora.

FREE My name is Ronny Kerr and I'm addicted to StumbleUpon. That stupid social discovery engine for years caused me to ignore school assignments, neglect my most basic human needs for sleep and food, and, perhaps most importantly, clouded my judgment when deciding on the best browser to use (Google Chrome didn't get a Stumble toolbar until March of this year). Now, with StumbleUpon!, I can bring my addiction to discovering weird, interesting and funny things on the Internet with me everywhere I go! See also: going outside, talking to people.

FREE or $0.99 (sans ads) Everyone is all about Angry Birds, but I have yet to get into it. Here's an addicting game you might not have seen yet: NinJump is a fast-paced arcade-style game where you control a swift ninja that can do nothing but jump from one building to another and back and forth; you must avoid other ninjas, foxes with enough balance to run across clotheslines, and... angry birds. I first discovered it by looking over the shoulder of an elderly man playing it on the subway in Tokyo, so you know it has to be good. See also: Angry Birds, Doodle Jump.

FREE Honestly, I still have trouble believing that this is both very real and very free. Audiogalaxy Mobile, which you must first set up online, is a cloud-based platform that lets you stream music and playlists from your computer to your iPhone while you're on-the-go. No DRM or monthly payments or anything money-related necessary. The RIAA cannot like this. Get it while you can. By the way, isn't Apple supposed to be working on something this awesome? Too bad it already exists. See also: nothing is this amazing, sorry.

FREE As far as QR readers go, you can't really do better than Paperlinks. I'm repeatedly astounded by the accuracy and quickness of this app when scanning QR codes. Every time I put the camera up to a code, I'm still steadying my hand and centering the frame when the app has already registered the code and is delivering me my data. Look no further for "magical," because I expect QR codes to become a much bigger deal in 2011, as smartphones go more and more mainstream. See also: RedLaser if you're into barcode scanning as well.

FREE They allowed *what* into the walled garden that is the Apple App Store? An application that is confusingly similar to another service already offered by the iPhone? Oh well. After over a year of playground-style wars of words with Google and an FCC investigation, Apple finally allowed Google Voice, Google's powerful telecommunications app. My favorite feature is its voicemail transcriptions. Get the message without ever pressing play! As a whole, the app is still a little buggy, but I'm hoping it'll be improved in future updates.

Resource: Vator.tv

Just like its predecessor, the new release iPhone is also a huge hit. Millions of iPhone 4 units have been sold in such a short span of time.

This new iPhone has many useful features that can attract anyone. The iPhone 4g features include a slim design and stunning body. The body is made of steel and glass covering the top, sides and the bottom of the device. It is the best iPhone. It connects to the internet through the EDGE and Class 10 GPRS. The new release iPhone offers two storage options - 64GB and 80GB.

The OLED screen delivers crystal clear display. The screen has the highest resolution - 960 x480 (like the iPad). You can use the iPad applications on iPhone 4. The 3.5-inch screen gives amazing display. It has four times more pixels than the iPhone 3GS.

It has two cameras, one at the front and second at the back. You can perform video talk and video conference at the same time with your friends. The camera has 5 mega pixel and the auto focus feature that delivers LED flash and geo tagging. The main camera has a bigger sensor and bigger lenses.

Despite carrying a high resolution, this device maintains the 5 megapixel count with bigger dots and light sensitivity. So, you can take photos and shoot video in dim light conditions. Apple says that the display of the iPhone 4 is based on the display of its latest product iPad and it offers a higher viewing angle. The applications will be sharper for text and graphics.

The iPhone 4 has altered volume buttons and its metal band improves the radio signals.
This device is thinner than the predecessor, but it weighs the same. It looks good and feels good in the hands.

The Apple A4 chip consumes less power and thus the battery runs longer. The battery life is 16% bigger than the iPhone 3GS. The company claims 40% more talk time with the new iPhone.

Specs -

Talk Time - 7 hours
Surfing - 6 hours (3G) and 10 hours (Wi-Fi)
Video - 10 hours
Audio - 40 hours
Stand-by - 300 hours
The iPhone 4 has iOS4 as its operating system. It offers multi-tasking without putting a load on the battery power. The Retina display is supported through this software and it helps for the apps to get scaled for the new resolution.

It is a complete phone with everything you need. Buy it and rock your world.

The new iPhone 4g has latest technique with various new features. The iBookstore sells books only for the iPad, but Apple said it expected to sell books for the iPhone this year.
Apple also said there were now 5,000 iPad-specific apps available for the device. The top-selling applications in the App Store have remained relatively unchanged since the device went on sale last month. Apple’s own productivity suite including Pages, Numbers and Keynote, all analogous to Microsoft’s Office products, remain the top grossing apps along with the games Pinball, Real Racing HD and Scrabble.
Steve Jobs said in a statement that the milestone of one million devices is “half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone.” He also said that “demand continues to exceed supply.” Earlier this month, Apple announced in a press release that it was going to “postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May.”
Over the weekend the iPad 3G went on sale. There were reports over the weekend that the 3G model quickly sold out as shoppers waited in line to buy the latest offering.

[Note uniqe content here]

The images show a sleek-looking iPhone with an aluminium back that is more reminiscent of the first-generation iPhone and new iPad computer than the glossy-backed iPhone 3G and 3GS handsets.

Apple has refused to confirm whether the device in the images is a prototype of its new device. Gadget fans are well known for creating "mock ups" of supposed Apple devices, and then seeding them around the internet.

There are rumours that the new iPhone will be unveiled in June, and will feature an eight megapixel camera with flash, more storage and a front-mounted camera. The iPhone 4.0 software update, which was revealed by Apple last week, will also add multi-touch capabilities to the device.

A return to the aluminium form factor would make sense for Apple. It's very first iPhone, launched in July 2007, had an aluminium back, as does its latest gadget, the iPad, which went on sale in the United States earlier this month. Shoppers in the UK will have to wait until late May to get their hands on the touch-screen, tablet style computer, after Apple pushed back the launch date, citing "overwhelming" demand.

In February, rival phone maker HTC unveiled a handset made from a single piece of aluminium, using a manufacturing technique similar to the one used by Apple to make its unibody Macs. Palm has one of the best mobile operating systems with multi-tasking, great application switcher, hi-tech games, and a very stable operating system.

The company’s new hope, the Palm Pre, after the heavy publicity last year and its new operating system, web’s, received favorable reviews. Besides Apple and Goggle, Palm is the only company to have tried a modern smart phone operating system. The company has a market capitalization of $1 billion. The company is looking for bids in the next few days. Shares in Palm, which makes the Pre and Pixy phones and has developed the innovative web’s phone software, increased by nearly seventeen per cent yesterday as reported.

Palm's Web’s operating system is considered the company's most valuable asset. Rumored buyers include hardware firms such as Taiwan's HTC and the China's Renovo. Interests could also come from Nokia or RIM, who could view Palm's easy-to-use software as an attractive deal in comparison to the iPhone and Android.

The rest of the world has had the iPhone 3GS for around 8 months now with rumors of a 4G / HD version coming very soon. So why is India so far behind, especially when they aim to take on the likes of Nokia – who has a stronghold in the country.
Maybe it has something to do with the lack of interest of the iPhone in India, which is due to the high price. There are rumors that the new iPhone 4G / HD will be cheaper than the 3GS – so why not bypass the current model altogether?
As we mentioned above, Nokia is the market leader in India – so we know that the potential is there, Apple just needs to tap into it. Nokia has been able to create handsets that fulfill market needs, something that Apple struggles with.
Apple is all about offering the best in technology, but the company should have different strategies for different countries. There is one problem with that though; Apple will never change for the need of others.
Techie Buzz tells us that we should not expect the iPhone 4G / HD anytime soon in India, so residents will just have to make do with the 3GS for now.
Compare blackberry phones Deals on O2, Orange, Vodafone and Get a Sure Free Gifts.

Mobile telephony is exploding in India but the infrastructure is still below par in most of the country. Forget about internet connectivity, most service providers are struggling to ensure decent call quality. Now, while the rest of the world is preparing to adopt 4G, India is gearing up to welcome 3G.
Airtel did not provide any time frame for the introduction of iPhone in India. However, if it doesn’t hurry, the iPhone 3GS will become outdated even before launch. Moreover, the lack of exclusive license also implies that they may be facing competition from the likes of Vodafone, Reliance and Aircel.
In spite of being widely acclaimed and selling like hot cakes in the US, the iPhone has failed to have any major impact in India. Outrageous pricing by the distributors pretty much ensured that the iPhone was out of reach for a significant percentage of the youth. Let us hope that the carriers will be more sensible this time around.

Photograph: Robert Galbraith/Reuters
Google's attempt to break into the mobile phone market has hit serious problems in Britain with the launch of its flagship Nexus One device understood to have been delayed until the middle of next month.
The setback means that by the time Google's first own-branded foray into the market this side of the Atlantic is available to consumers, its local network partner Vodafone will have launched a competing product, which analysts say is better, called the HTC Legend.
While Google has been working with the industry on the Android mobile phone software for several years, the Nexus One, made by Taiwan's HTC, is the first handset over which the search engine group has had complete control. But launching a new phone has proved more difficult than Google expected.
It was released in the US in January, but Google's decision to sell it solely through its website immediately came in for criticism as buyers struggled to get help with technical problems, and Google, which has traditionally relied on email for consumer contact, was forced to introduce telephone helplinessupport and the problems it has experienced in the US has given it reason to pause over the phone's launch outside the US, to make sure it has its customer service operations in place. Last week Goldman Sachs slashed its estimate for Nexus One sales this year from 3.5m units to 1m worldwide.
In the UK, Google will not only sell the phone at full price to any customer who wants to put their existing sim card into it, but it has also teamed up with Vodafone, which will offer the device free to anyone willing to sign a £35 monthly contract.
But the delay in the launch of the Nexus One, which under Google's original plan would have been available earlier this month, means that it will come after the launch of rival Android devices that analysts reckon are at least as good, if not better. Vodafone, for instance, will be offering the HTC Legend in April which has the same operating system as the Nexus One but is more stylish: being built from a single piece of milled aluminium. Orange and T-Mobile, meanwhile, will both be stocking the HTC Desire – which is exactly the same as the Nexus One, but has an optical trackpad instead of a trackball – from next month.
The delay also means the Google device will be available in the UK only weeks before another hotly anticipated gadget, Apple's iPad. Several of the UK's mobile phone companies are finalising deals with Apple to sell the tablet computer to British consumers. Unlike its last mobile device, the iPhone, which was offered through just one exclusive partner for the first two years, the iPad is expected to be available through multiple network operators from the start.
Apple will ship two versions of the iPad in the UK, one that can access the internet using short-range wi-fi networks and one that can also access 3G mobile phone networks. But Apple needs to sign deals with at least one UK mobile network, because the iPad makes use of micro-sims, meaning that buyers cannot just put the sim card from their existing handsets into it. In fact, it will be the first device launched in the UK that uses micro-sims.
Apple said earlier this month that the device will go on sale in the UK towards the end of April but the mobile phone companies believe that the 3G version of the iPad will not be available until May. Orange, T-Mobile, O2 and Vodafone all expect to be selling the iPad to customers and they are all locked in talks with the Californian company. Apple, however, has made it plain that it does not want iPad users to be tied to long-term contracts with any mobile phone operator. Instead it wants users to be able to pay for mobile network access on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Vodafone refused to comment. A spokesperson for Google added: "Our plans for launching the Nexus One in the UK are on track and in line with our statement in January that we would launch in spring 2010."

The mobile operator will also be participating in 3G and WiMAX spectrum auctions.
3G-ready
The two dynamic social handsets, INQ CHAT 3G and INQ MINI 3G, which will be available in 55 cities and sold from Aircel retail outlets, have been priced at Rs.7,599 and Rs.5,399, respectively.
“These multimedia phones are 3G-ready that will deliver superb value-added service (VAS) experience,” Aircel COO Gurdeep Singh told journalists here.
“We at Aircel have consciously focussed on VAS which is the future of telephony to be able to provide our consumers a rich and valuable experience and introduce to them a world of possibilities on their mobile. We are completely in sync with INQ's philosophy and devices which are built with the Internet at the core for a new generation with a different attitude to communication. That means a never before, rich and authentic Facebook, Twitter and email experience along with Aircel innovations,” he added.
Advantage
According to INQ Mobile Chief Executive and Founder Frank Meehan, “these attractively priced phones will soon become popular with Indian youths who want to remain constantly in touch. It will give them true Internet experience while on the go. The advantage with these handsets is that they integrate key features of social networking sites into the phone's address book, removing the need to separately log on to the service.”
Future plans
On Aircel's future plans, Mr. Singh said it would participate in the 3G and WiMAX spectrum bids. “We will begin our services in five more States — Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan — within the next couple of months, thereby covering the entire country. So far we have invested $5 billion while a similar amount will be invested in the next two years to expand reach and built infrastructure,” he added. With presence in 18 circles, Aircel today has over 3.5-crore subscribers.

But he said that mobile ad rates have increased "dramatically" in recent years.
And he noted that the number of Google searches on mobile phones have increased five-fold in the last two years.
"We hope and believe that there's even a chance that we could exceed desktop in the future," Gundotra said in reference to the cost per click of mobile ads.
He cited the availability of technology, such as the GPS data that can tell Google a phone user's physical whereabouts, as helping the company create more "relevant" online ads.
Google, the world's No.1 Internet search engine with $23.7 billion in 2009 revenue, has stepped up its mobile efforts as consumers increasingly access the Web from smartphones like Apple Inc's iPhone.
Google offers its own Android operating system that handset manufacturers like Motorola Inc and HTC use in their devices, and in January, Google began selling the Nexus One phone directly on its Web site.
In November, Google announced plans to acquire mobile advertising firm AdMob for $750 million, though the deal is currently facing regulatory review.
The mobile briefing comes as Google is in a standoff with China, the world's largest Internet market by users, over the future of its Internet search website in the country. Google has said it will no longer censor search results in China, a move that some analysts believe could mean the end of its Chinese language web site Google.cn.
Asked what the search situation might mean for Google's mobile plans in China, Google CFO Patrick Pichette said on the webcast on Monday that Android was an "open source" platform that's available to everybody and that the company thought China represented "another great market in which Android should flourish."

Analysts predict the first-year sales could reach 5 million.
Still, despite the avalanche of pre-release hype (the media-tracking firm O'Leary Analytics found 25,000 news mentions of the then-unnamed product in January alone), Friday's pre-order mania was tempered by considerable ambivalence among the geeked-out on discussion boards and on Twitter.
"Early adopters," scoffed a poster on Appleinsider.com about the early buyers.
"I was all set to buy one this morning, but I guess cold feet set in overnight," read a post on TUAW.com (The Unofficial Apple Weblog). "I've decided to wait a while, maybe for the 2nd generation. Now I just have to see if I can hold out for the next gen iPhone. . . . Sometimes I think I should be going to gadgeholics anonymous meetings."
A Twitter poster named Mash187 offered: "Avoiding the rush to pre-order an iPad today. Going to wait until the [basic] version is in the wild to see how people really like it."
Engadget.com asked its tech-savvy readers whether they planned to buy an iPad, which starts at $499. The result: Nearly 19 percent of 60,000 respondents said yes; 65 percent were negative; and 16 percent clicked "What's an iPad?"
Enough with the iPad hype? We probably haven't seen anything yet. The product arrives in Apple stores April 3. Which can only mean one thing: TV reporters doing stand-ups in front of long lines of buyers camped out in front of the stores -- including the untold numbers who'll be there just to appear on TV news reports about people camped out in front of Apple stores.

The latter is yet to be announced though.
Samsung has tied up with Barnes and Noble bookstore to offer the E6 owners a sizable section of titles in the e-book format. The E6 has in sight the likes of the Amazon Kindle and even Barnes and Noble's own e-Book reader, the Nook. It is interesting to see Barnes and Noble tying up with Samsung to offer content for the E6 which competes with it's own Nook.
That said, the E6 is quite a looker - for an e-Reader that is. It has a very unusual slider form factor - probably a first for any e-Book reader on the planet. It has a 6-inch e-Ink display with a very crisp 600x800 resolution. Easily readable both indoors and outdoors, it also happens to be quite compact. The E6 comes with 2GB of internal memory, which should be sufficient for storing lots of data. However, if you feel 2GB isn't enough for the kind of reading you do, you can always use a microSD card to increase the memory to a colossal 16GB.
The E6 supports Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) and Bluetooth 2.0 and can also act as a wireless music player if you have lots of free memory and a pair of Bluetooth headphones that you can wirelessly connect using Bluetooth. There is a headphone jack as well as built in speakers. The speakers can also be used to listen to Samsung's text to speech ability in which the reader actually reads out content for you.
The E6 comes with an electromagnetic resonance (EMR) stylus pen. This gives the user the freedom to add annotations and "writing" on the e-Book screen.
Samsung is yet to reveal the price if the E6 and it is largely expected to be priced nominally compared to its competitors.

According to data released earlier this month by the mobile phone advertising company Mobclix, there are more than 27,000 books now available as apps. Games lag behind, with 25,400 published this year, followed by entertainment, education and travel.
It's a trend that seems to be gathering momentum, with the number of book apps outnumbering games almost two to one over the past month. Next month's launch of the iPad, Apple's new tablet reader, alongside a dedicated book store, is set to accelerate the shift to electronic reading still further.
"The iPhone has always been perceived as a games-centric device, said Canongate's digital editor, Dan Franklin, "so the idea that books are outranking games is very exciting."
Franklin, who moved into digital publishing a year ago, said that his first thought on getting the job was, "When are Apple going to do something?" because "they have form". A move from Apple into the ebook market will "bring new people to reading like they have brought new people to music with the iTunes store", he added.
"It's a very exciting time," agreed Penguin's digital publisher, Jeremy Ettinghausen. "It's very exciting that people are using iPhones to read books."
"I travel on the tube every day," he continued, "and you do see people reading books, reading newspapers and playing games. As publishers we need to be on the things that people are using during that distraction time, that commuter time."
But he argued for caution in focusing on the number of titles being published, stressing that "it's very easy to produce books for the iPhone".
"It's interesting to see what's selling," he said, "rather than what's being submitted – quite a lot of the books are free downloads, whereas the games tend to be paid for. I'm more interested in what's going out than what's going in."
A significant proportion of these apps are free downloads of out-of-copyright books, but according to Franklin the recent surge in book apps can also be attributed to improvements in Apple's approval processes.
"Initially books weren't seen as being top of the pile," Franklin explained, but with the launch of the iBookstore imminent, "Apple are now taking more notice of book submissions".
"With the iPad due next month, and Google looking like they're going to launch their Google Editions, this is the key year for electronic books," he said.

The difference is that Sony Ericsson’s interface — UXP, formerly known as Rachael — actually looks useful.
The company plans to launch a slew of new Android-based phones this year. Top of the list is the Xperia X10 — which confusingly carries the same codename that UXP used to have: Rachael. It’s a device with a 4-inch touchscreen, a 1-GHz Snapdragon processor and 8.1 megapixel camera that will be available this quarter. The company will also introduce the Mini, a compact phone with a 2.6-inch display that will be available in a touchscreen-only version as well as one with a slide-out keyboard.
But it’s UXP that forms the heart of these phones’ experience. Sony Ericsson has been working on the UXP interface for more than two years, the company says.
“We have done extensive skinning of the Android platform. because we really wanted to make it a bespoke experience,” says George Arriola, head of user experience for Sony Ericcson.
Sony’s UXP interface attempts to do the same thing as rivals like Motorola’s MotoBLUR: namely, aggregate social networking feeds such as Facebook and Twitter into one stream, integrate that data with your phone address book and contacts, and personalize the multimedia experience.
“We took a very sophisticated PlayStation middleware and shrunk it to fit the Android OS,” says Arriola.
Palm was the first of the smartphone makers to kick off the trend of integrating social media updates and contacts with the launch of the Palm Pre, though the Pre was based on Palm’s own operating system webOS, not Android. But the Android phones launched since then have tried to follow the path blazed by Palm.
Motorola has the MotoBlur interface that’s now a part of most of its phones, including the Cliq, Backflip and Devour. HTC has introduced Sense, its custom UI that’s available on phones such as the HTC Hero and upcoming phones including Legend and Desire.
But Sony’s UXP interface is the most visually attractive implementation that I have seen so far.
At the heart of Sony’s experience is a widget called Timescape. Timescape collects social networking feeds and presents them in a card-like view. A bar at the bottom of the screen has little icons that lets users filter the information stream by network such as Facebook, Twitter or Flickr.
The phone also updates the address book with a contact’s latest social networking update. That means if you click on a name in your address book, you can see their last social-feed post and use it as a reference point while making the call.
What makes this experience slick is the way the cards rain down on the screen, offering an almost 3-D–like effect as they scroll past. Clicking on one of the cards pulls up the contact and their status update.
Rather than contribute to info clutter, Sony’s attempt to jazz it up by using better visual effects actually does make it easier to handle the information stream.
The UXP interface also introduces a concept called “infinite pivot” — an infinity-shaped icon that helps you drill deeper and pull up related views Sony is also trying to offer a better experience for music, video and photos. The widget that controls this is called Mediascape. Click on the Mediscape icon and you get three options: My Music, My Videos and My Photos.
Music and videos are divided into recently played, recently added and favorites. There’s also access to PlayNow, Sony Ericsson’s music-downloads service.
A recommendation engine can suggest other artists or songs based on the music preferences of a user. Clicking on the infinite-pivot icon next to an artist’s name in music and videos offers suggestions and even searches the web.
And in a bid to keep the custom look throughout the phone, Sony redesigned the interface to services such as the phone dialer, calendar and alarm, says Arriola.
Overall, Sony Ericsson’s UXP skin for Android is not as confusing as the MotoBlur interface and more polished than the HTC Sense UI. Instead, UXP is a snappy, sophisticated treat. It works, though, only if you buy into the premise that instead of checking your Facebook and Twitter when you want to (as in the iPhone), you would like these services streamed and updated constantly to your phone.
Now if only they could get U.S. wireless carriers to offer Sony Ericsson phones on contract — and at prices slim enough to match the hardware.
Check out the candid photos of the Sony UXP interface on the Xperia X10 phone below.

Mobile Phone Deals Get Cheap Mobile Phones Deals and Mobile Phones with Gifts. Just a few months after the company announced that it would be yanking some sexually-related apps from the App Store (and taking a sufficient amount of heat in the process), the company now seems to be doing a similar thing to apps of a much less risque description.
According to a new report, Apple has begun to yank Wi-Fi finding applications from the App Store, which is curious on a number of levels. For starters, we have always heard that Apple was quick to ban/block apps that basically served the same function as an app that was built into iPhone OS. This is the reason why you really won't find any additional Mail apps on the App Store. In a way, we can understand that logic. But we still can't quite wrap our heads around this one.

Wi-Fi finding apps were extremely helpful for those who needed to sniff out an open access point just to download a large file attachment or send a large e-mail. Now, it seems that those who haven't already downloaded one will be out of luck. We did notice that Apple's iPhone OS provides this functionality on a very, very basic level. If you go into the iPhone's "Settings" pane, you can then switch "On" the Wi-Fi and watch as it searches and displays whatever Wi-Fi access points are nearby. But there's no additional detail or extra search options; it's the bare minimum, but apparently Apple isn't too keen on people making this better via their own app. This all brings us to a very important question: why can't Apple developers, who pay hard-earned money to be a part of the program, develop apps to compete with Apple's own? Does Apple really think that no one can ever out-do their own apps? Do they simply not want their own apps to look paltry in comparison to third-party alternatives? It's hard to say what Apple's thinking here; they'll let people download apps that turn the iPhone into a flashlight, but they're blocking sophisticated Wi-Fi finding apps that actually boost productivity and make the iPhone itself a more attractive smartphone option. Will anyone ever truly understand how Apple ticks?
