Just a quick update on some freshly released iOS 4 goodness today. 1Password Pro

If you’re a 1Password desktop (Mac or Windows) user with a Dropbox account, 1Password Pro’s latest version is nothing short of a revelation. Just open it up, log into your Dropbox account, and all your passwords and secure data are automagically synced to your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch over the air (OTA). This is the big one. This is what all Todo, Notes, and every other app that should be everywhere needs to do, with every major online storage option. It’s the future.
Oh, and it looks great on Retina Display and works great with iOS 4 fast app switching as well too.
(And yeah, there’s even an Android version now for those who dual-wield).

Dragon Dictation

Sure, iOS 4 still lacks universal voice integration but luckily… wait for it… there are apps for that. Dragon Dictation is one of the big guns and it’s just updated to include Facebook and Twitter support, send text to the clipboard and paste into SMS. It’ll also be coming to the UK soon. (They’ve figured out brogue, apparently).

BargainBin

App Advice’s BargainBin lets you set a price for an app (including free) and then alerts you when the app drops to that price. So, for example, if you know holidays usually beget sales and there’s a game that’s been just a bit too expensive for your tastes, you set it up in BargainBin and if it drops to your sweet spot, you’ll know about it and you can go get it. (And if you’re cheeky enough to have set BargainBin itself to free, here’s you’re alert — it’ll cost you nothing for a limited time).

Apple Launches Free Case Program, App

Apple’s free iPhone 4 bumper/case program has just gone live on the web… and in an app. (Insert app for that joke here if you really, really have to).
If you haven’t bought a bumper already:
Download the iPhone 4 Case Program app from the App Store. 2 Launch the app on your iPhone 4 and sign in using your iTunes Store account or Apple ID.
Select your Bumper or case.
For iPhone 4 purchases made before July 23, 2010, you must apply no later than August 22, 2010; otherwise, you must apply within 30 days of your iPhone 4 purchase. To qualify for this program, you must purchase your iPhone 4 by September 30, 2010.
There’s also information on how to get a refund for those who did purchase a bumper already from Apple or AT&T.

Those of you who follow @MuscleNerd or @planetbeing on Twitter probably already know that the team has had a series of successes with the carrier unlock on iPhone4 (#1, #2, #3, #4, #5-video). We’re fine-tuning the payload to make it as quick to load as possible (and making sure it remains crash-free of course!).

As usual before a public release, there are lots of fake Twitter and Facebook accounts trying to capitalize on the public’s eagerness to get the unlock. For those who only want to know when it’s released, either of these two official accounts will do. All other variations of these account names are fake!

Update 7/15/2010

You can use this redsn0w from June to jailbreak 4.0.1 on iPhone3G. Just point it at the 4.0 IPSW (the public one, not the developer GM one).

(Yes – point it at the 4.0 IPSW even though you're at 4.0.1).

This will also hacktivate your iPhone3G at 4.0.1 if you haven't already been activated by iTunes. Install ultrasn0w if you need a carrier unlock (and in the USA, remember to turn off 3G mode in Settings→General→Network).

Update 7/14/2010

If you've updated to 4.1beta1 on iPhone3G or iPod2G(non-MC), you can use this redsn0w from June to jailbreak. Just point it at the 4.0 IPSW (the public one, not the developer GM one).

(Yes – point it at the 4.0 IPSW even though you're at 4.1beta1).

Note 1: This won't hacktivate your iPhone3G – but for those with legit access to the 4.0beta1 this shouldn't matter. Please don't pirate Apple software

Note 2: If you're at 4.1beta1 you'll probably experience network problems after jailbreaking. Until a new version of redsn0w is released, you may need to rely on afc2 access (such as FunBox-like file browser programs) to manipulate your filesystem.

Update 6/29/2010

The latest redsn0w beta should fix any APN or MMS issues that users were seeing. It's safe to re-run it on an already jailbroken iPhone without restoring…just deselect “Install Cydia” if you do that.

Update 6/21/2010

The latest redsn0w beta now hacktivates the iPhone3G. It's only for 4.0 final (released on Monday) on iPhone3G and ipt2g (non-MC version).

What is it?

This is a beta release of redsn0w. It uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we've been using since the 2.x days. Nothing new is revealed to Apple, and it's not applicable to the iPad.

What devices, platforms, and FW versions are supported?

This BETA release supports:

iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G only (for now)
Mac OSX x86 and Windows only (for now)
the 4.0 official FW only (for now)

How do I use it?

If you've already updated your device to 4.0, the next steps are:

Make sure you've already activated your iPhone3G or iPod Touch 2G with iTunes (redsn0w won't hacktivate your iPhone3G until Apple's full public release of 4.0)
Launch the beta redsn0w 0.9.5b5
Select your stock 4.0 ipsw (you've already used this to update your device to 4.0)
Select “Install Cydia” and click “Next”. Use DFU mode to install the jailbreak.
When your device comes back up, you'll notice Cydia has a blank white icon (we told you many things were broken right now!) Allow Cydia to reorganize, then accept the update it offers. When Cydia restarts, you should see its real logo now.
