Couple of days ago I wrote about the new iOS 4.1 firmware update release by Apple and the fact it will be released next week, Wednesday September 8th. As you all know currently there is no Jailbreak or Unlock solution for the new iOS 4.0.2 or the iOS 4.1.

Dev-Team didn’t want to waste the possible exploit on the minor update which was the iOS 4.0.2 so I wrote an Article about that as well. You can read it here. Instead of wasting another exploit on a minor update (4.0.2 and 3.2.2) the iPhone Dev-Team will focus on finding a new exploit which could be used on the next major firmware update i.e. iOS 4.1.

Today, Dev-Team The iPhone Dev-Team member MuscleNerd comfirmed that Comex is first going to give userland jailbreak a try via something he mentions as “trifecta”.

If that fails to work, then they are going to release a new jailbreak based on bootrom exploit which could probably take longer than the userland jailbreak to arrive.

@TechXero it’ll be userland JB if @comex can pull trifecta. Else, wait for new HW cycle (also remember: hole!=exploit)

At this point no one really knows what kind of exploit is going to be used to jailbreak iOS 4.1? It might be another userland exploit like Spirit or JailbreakMe, or perhaps the iPhone Dev Team will work on and release a bootrom exploit like Blackra1n which will last longer than the userland exploit before Apple patches it.

I will keep all of you guys up to date on the new upcoming Jailbreak for iOS 4.1 but for now we just have to sit back and wait…

Enjoy your Jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and don’t try to update it to the newest 4.1 Firmware until the Jailbreak Tools are available.

Sergio Mcfly the developer behind the iPhoDroid has announced the release of a Windows version of iPhoDroid which can install Android on your iPhone 3G with one click.

“YES! It’s today. Gotta tell you Im so thankful for everyone to be so patient and understandable for this Release. The delay was necessary because I made everything for do not mess up your computer and despite Microsoft Windows7 64bit is very tough to accept an un-certificated DLL, I found a very good safe way to run the App without installation and no hassles. All on-the-fly and in one single click, 1SHOT Yeah!! and now it runs on fine over XP and Vista (i386 and x64). I hope all of you help me to keep this Project alive; I never ever thought that this could be this BIG as it is. Thanks everyone and God bless!”

Here is how you can install Android OS on your iPhone using the iPhoDroid for Windows.

Please note, this installation is for iPhone 3G only, I have not tried any other devices but you can give it a try if you would like.

First thing you need to do is DOWNLOAD iPhoDroid and then Open it on your Computer. (Download iPhoDroid from HERE)

Click on Shoot button, follow these steps (Screenshots below) very simple.

Now after the installation you will have to REBOOT your iPhone.

NOTE: You will be in Recovery Mode (iTunes Logo and USB on your iPhone Screen)

Go ahead and start the iPhoDroid application again (iPhonDroid.exe) and then click on EXIT RECOVERY MODE button…

That’s all there is to it. Good Luck.

Apple today announced that in less than 48 hours since its launch on Wednesday, more than one million users have joined Ping, its new social network for music which lets users follow their favorite artists and friends to discover what music they’re talking about, listening to and downloading.

“One-third of the people who have downloaded iTunes 10 have joined Ping,“ said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of Internet Services. “As many more people download iTunes 10 in the coming weeks, we expect the Ping community to continue growing.“

Hey guys, this is something very interesting I came across on the net in regards to the Apple iOS (Operating System) Check this out.

Overall, the iDevice – iPhone, iPod touch and iPad – are running IOS ‘s1.1% of all hardware on the Internet during the past month and the percentage will probably increase the time goes on.

Computer World relays information from the company that found iOS to be six times larger than Android and account for 1.1% of all hardware on the Internet last month.

For the month of August, Linux fell to a 0.85% share, the third month in a row that the open-source operating system lost ground. Windows and Apple’s Mac OS were the No. 1 and No. 2 operating systems on the Web, with 91.3% and 5%, respectively.

“It’s something to take note of when a mobile operating system passes something that’s been around forever,” said Vince Vizzaccaro, a Net Applications vice president, talking about iOS overtaking Linux. “Mobile’s growth curve is strong, and mobile is becoming quite a phenomenon on the Internet.”

Downgrade iPad – Apple released the new iPad iOS 3.2.2 in respect to patch the famous PDF / JailbreakMe exploit and as you know at the moment there is no jailbreak available for iPad iOS 3.2.2/

In addition to that, Apple has already stopped signing the iOS 3.2.1 Firmware Restore files. And what that means is this; You can NOT restore any firmware other than 3.2.2 with your iPad unless you have saved your SHSH blobs on Cydia.

If any of you have accidentally updated to the latest iOS 3.2.2 and lost you Jailbreak I have a solution for you… As long as you saved your SHSH blobs on Cydia Server you can go back to OS 3.2.1 or lower by following the following step by step guide on how to downgrade your iPad OS 3.2.2 to 3.2.1 or lower.

F.Y.I. = You will need to DOWNLOAD the iOS 3.2.1 Firmware for iPad from HERE or the link listed at the end of this tutorial.

This Downgrade iPad hack will only work for those users have who saved their SHSH to Cydia Server via Cydia (“make my life easier” button.) or the Tiny Umbrella Application before the official Apple Release of OS 3.2.2

See screenshot below… If you have / had this at the top of your Cydia Screen then you are good to go…
NOTE: the reason why I’m being very detailed is because a lot of users don’t even know about the fact that their SHSH blobs are saved in Cydia… So if you have seen something like this at the top of your Cydia screen then you should give this tutorial a try. Good luck…

The process is very simple so all you have to do is to add Saurik’s Server address to your system hosts file before you can Downgrade iPad, iPhone 4, 3GS or the 3G iPod Touch…

By doing so your iTunes will (“think”) it is communicating to Apple, when in reality it is talking to Cydia instead while the restoring process is taking place on your iDevice.

So basically once you modify the system host file you will allow iTunes to access signatures (SHSH blobs) already stored on Cydia / “on file” feature. In simple words this duplicates the functionality exposed by Apple’s signature server, except using “on file” results rather than live request. Never mind this technical nonsense if you’re a noob…

Just a reminder: This process will only work for those users have who saved their SHSH to Cydia Server via Cydia (“make my life easier” button.) or the Tiny Umbrella Application before the official Apple Release of OS 3.2.2

How to Edit and Save Hosts file in Windows

Open Notepad with Administrative privileges by clicking Start >> All Programs >> Accessories, and then right-click Notepad and select to open as Administrator.

Now that Notepad is open with Administrative privileges browse to this directory (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc) in Notepad and open the hosts file. Or just browse to the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc , directory and open the “hosts” file by right clicking on it and choosing OPEN option.

Once the “hosts” files is open in your Notepad you will have to add the following entry to the bottom of the file just like you see in the screenshot below.

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

Now all you have to do is SAVE this file so go up to the “FILE” Menu and click on SAVE option to save the hosts file.

By doing this you will change the communication server from Apple to Sauriks Server and since your ECID is on that server you will be able to put your iPad in recovery mode to restore to iOS 3.2.1 firmware.

How to Edit and Save Hosts file in Mac

Navigate to /etc and look for hosts file, right click on hosts file and open with Text Edit, and add the following entry to the bottom of the file.

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

Now save the file and click on Save As. Because Text Editor can’t save your system files, here is what you will have to do; in Save As windows use the same settings you see in the following image listed below;

In the “Where” dropdown window, choose to locate to your Desktop. Also, this is a big one… Uncheck the “ If no extension is provide, use .txt “ and then press the Save button.

A host file will be appear on your Desktop, at this point all you have to do is just drag and drop it into the /etc and follow the onscreen instructions.

By doing this you will change the communication server from Apple to Sauriks Server and since your ECID is on that server you will be able to put your iPad in recovery mode to restore to iOS 3.2.1 firmware.

Restoring your iPad to the earlier iOS version (3.2.1)

OK… at this point (after you do everything listed above) all you have to do is restore you iPad to the iOS 3.2.1 which you can download from HERE or at the end of this tutorial.

Connect your iPad to the computer using your USB cable. iTunes should automatically start, but in case iTunes did not start after you connected the iPad then start iTunes manually.

Select your iPad from the list of devices on the left side (in iTunes). On Windows hold down the SHIFT key on your keyboard and click the “RESTORE” button. On Mac hold down the OPTION key on your keyboard and click the “RESTORE” button

NOTE: Do not click on the “Check for Update / Update” button (located directly above RESTORE). Restore is preferred as it won’t create any wasted space on your iPhone.

Browse / Navigate to the iOS 3.2.1 Firmware file you have downloaded and let your device restore to it. Sit back, have some coffee or beer and wait for it to be completed.

Your iPad screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. At some point during the installation process, iTunes will give you the 1011, 1013 or 1015 error message. This is normal, just ignore this error as the firmware has already been successfully installed on the device.

Now you will need to exit your device from Recovery Mode. To do this, download a program called RecBoot (Windows / Mac). Run it and the click on “Exit Recovery Mode” button. Your device will now restart normally.

You can get the latest version of RecBoot for OS X from here: RecBoot for Mac

After your iPad restores you will be able to Jailbreak it again using the JailbreakME method listed in this article.

As we all know, when the 4.0 and 4.0.1, 4.0.2 iOS came out all iPhone 3G iPhones / Devices (and Users) were pretty much bastardized by the LAG and all the other issues with the iOS 4.0.

The iPhone 3G was pretty much crippled after the 4.0 or higher update was installed on the iPhone 3G device. Even something as simple as “typing” was (and still IS) very slow (Laggy) and simply frustrating to all iPhone 3G users.

Steve Jobs promised ALL iPhone 3G users the FIX that is supposedly coming in the new upcoming iOS 4.1 (Which is coming next week by the way) and as we all know the 4.1 GM version was released for developers right after the Apple September Event (September 1st, 2010) so Lifehacker has posted some very interesting results / comparisons between the iOS 4.1 (NEW) and the current iOS 4 on the iPhone 3G Device.

Check out this video comparison showing the performance of the iPhone 3G on iOS 4 versus iOS 4.1.

Lifehacker posted the following results:
● Messages: iOS 4.1 Wins (By a Little)
● Maps: iOS 4.1 Wins (By a Lot)
● Photos: iOS 4.1 Wins (Just Barely)
● Safari: iOS 4.1 Wins (Just Barely)

While the speed advantages ranged from marginal to significant, iOS 4.1 clearly outperformed iOS 4.0. It’s still significantly slower performance than you’ll get from a 3GS or iPhone 4, and we’re still not sure it’s a big enough improvement that 3G owners will want to ditch iOS 3. The most obvious difference was UI responsiveness. The UI didn’t get stuck nearly as much on an interface element or when trying to enter text. If you are set on using iOS 4, the upgrade is worthwhile for that alone.
