Those looking to jailbreak their iOS devices can rejoice, since a new tool named Evasi0n has just been released by the Evad3rs team which allows for an iOS 6.1 untethered jailbreak on almost all of the devices.

Team Evad3rs was established earlier this year, combines some of the jailbreak community’s most talented developers: Nikias Bassen (Pimskeks), Planetbeing (David Wang), France-based Pod2g (Cyril) and Los Angeles-based MuscleNerd; all known for producing reliable jailbreaks in the past. This team was assembled in order to develop a reliable untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 for post-A5 devices, including the iPhone 5, the iPad mini and the latest-generation iPad. This has now been achieved with the just-released userland jailbreak tool, known as Evasi0n

Out of all new iOS devices, only the Apple TV 3 is not currently supported, although here’s to hope that a new tool will be developed soon that supports it.

This tool is quite user friendly, yet we remind users not to update their devices over the air (OTA): instead download the latest iOS 6.1 firmware and update to it via iTunes or the standalone ISPW – to take full advantage of all the new features of iOS 6.1 with added benefits of jailbreak.

Months of speculation, rumors, leaks and reports have finally led to the main event: Apple actually, officially announcing the new iPhone. It’s here and it’s not all that different from what the leaks and reports had made it out to be.

As expected, the iPhone 5 comes with an evolutionary design update, along with specifications bump that puts it at the level of fellow high-end Android smartphones like the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III. Check out the full details after the jump.

Design
The first and foremost feature people will notice is the design. The general shape is quite similar to the iPhone 4 / 4S with its metal band, and flat front / back. The biggest noticeable differences are its increased display size and aluminum + glass back.

iPhone 5 comes with a widescreen 4-inch Retina display with a resolution of 1136 x 640 with a pixel density 326PPI. This makes the new iPhone the same width as the iPhone 4S, only taller / longer depending on which orientation you’re looking at it. Once apps get updated to support the new display, they will show more content. All apps will benefit from this feature, as games will be more immersive, Reeder / Facebook / Twitter will let users see more items, movies and TV shows will play in widescreen without letterboxing etc. etc.
Keeping in line with the rumors, the iPhone 5’s headphone jack has been relocated and is now at the bottom of the device.
Display

The display has 44% more color saturation than the previous generation iPhone, and features integrated touch technology, which means that the iPhone 5’s display and the touch sensors have been united once and for all. This makes the iPhone 5’s display the most accurate and the most advanced display we’ve ever seen to date.
Hardware
Following their old tradition of ‘thinner and lighter’, the iPhone 5 weighs in at just 112 grams, is 20% lighter than the iPhone 4S and is the thinnest smartphone to date with a depth of just 7.6mm.

Instead of glass and glass only on the back like with the iPhone 4 / 4S, the iPhone 5’s back plate is two-toned: there is glass at the very top and bottom, but other than that it is all metal. This is a welcome design feature, as the weak non-Gorilla-Glass of the 4 and 4S was a rather serious problem.

The same old Home button sits at the center, underneath the screen, the volume buttons on the left hand-side, along with the mute/un-mute switch.
The iPhone 5 has three microphones, one at the back, one at the front, and one at the bottom, which provides better sound quality, and improved noise cancellation.
Internals
Let’s talk specifications now: the iPhone 5 is powered by a an A6 processor which is two timesfaster than the A5, so you can rest assured that everything loads quicker, apps load faster and games look stunning. Android enthusiasts can finally stop claiming that their phones are technically superior as the iPhone is now right up there with them! Last year, it was proved with benchmarks that the iPhone 4S’ 800MHz A5 dual-core chip was faster than the 1.2GHz dual-core Exynos chip on the Galaxy S II and Snapdragon processors on other HTC phones. The same may just happen again this year. We’ll have to wait and see for the first benchmarks to come in.

The device’s speaker has shrunk down 20%, and the earpiece now supports noise cancellation for crisp and clear voice calls. Wideband audio has also been introduced, which means that you can hear frequencies which you couldn’t on previous generation iPhones, in short, the lower and higher frequency sound bits are more audible during a voice call.
Wireless
Another big new feature is the support for 4G LTE. Earlier this year, the iPhone 4S received an update that changed “3G” to “4G” in its status bar when using AT&T’s HSPA+ network, but that was not at all close to the speeds offered by 4G LTE which Windows Phones and Android smartphones have been supporting since late 2010. Having 4G LTE means users will see marked improvements in streaming heavier content like HD videos and high quality audio streams.

HSPA+ in the iPhone 4S supported speeds up to 42Mbps, LTE is the next big thing on the iPhone 5. 4G LTE on the iPhone 5 supports speeds up to 100Mbps. Like we said before, your content is now at your finger tips, pages load faster, videos play way too quicker, and images literally pop to your face when you’re going through content on the web.
Wi-Fi now supports two bands, 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, what does that mean for the average Joe? Well, if you have a supporting Wi-Fi router at home, then you can rest easy that dropped signals won’t be an issue at your end. Big win here.
Camera
Optics received an improvement, too. Despite having a year to improve their cameras, other smartphone manufacturers (save for Nokia) have still not come up with optics that totally beat the iPhone 4S’. This hasn’t stopped Apple from improving things, though, as the camera on the iPhone 5 gets dynamic low light mode, precision lens alignment, sapphire crystal, so your images come out in far greater quality while maintaining the same image resolution – 8 megapixels. The front-facing camera’s resolution has been increased to 720p HD from VGA on previous phones.

Here comes the fun part in the camera, the iPhone 5 comes with Panorama mode, so you can capture wide landscapes with ease, and saves the image at a whooping 28-megapixels resolution.

Battery
The battery has been improved as well, and gives up to 8 hours of battery life on LTE, which quite honestly steamrolls the competition out of the water. Apple has managed to match, and improve upon the iPhone 4S’ battery to take things up a notch while on the go.
Lightning Port
The iPhone 5 also features the new smaller dock connector. The new dock connector has been named Lightning, which quite frankly, fits in very well with the speeds it has to offer.
The major features of the new Lightning dock connector are: it is 80% smaller than the previous 30-pin connector, it has an adaptive interface, more durable, and can be plugged in to the device in any orientation.
Accessories
Despite having a small and improved dock connector, older accessories seemingly look out of date, but thankfully, Apple themselves are offering a dock connector converter for the iPhone – named the Lightning to 30-pin Adapter – which will allow you to use your older accessories with the newer hardware.
All older accessories are compatible with the iPhone 5, excluding cases and sleeves.

Nano-SIM
The iPhone 5 uses a new type of SIM card, which on many occasions have been referred to as Nano-SIM. Those iPhone users who are great with their scissor ninja skills and can cut down a regular SIM to a Micro-SIM will be disappointed to know that the Nano-SIM is completely different from the Micro-SIM and cannot be made at home. Hence, you have to get a new SIM card from your network carrier, which is compatible with the iPhone 5.
Price
Pricing is the usual we’ve come to expect over the last three years. The 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models cost $199, $299, and $399 respectively with a two-year contract from AT&T, Verizon or Sprint. The iPhone 5 will be available in two colors – black and white.
Availability
The new iPhone 5 will go on pre-order on September 14th and will ship on September 21st. From September 14th it will be available for pre-order in the following countries: United States, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore. More countries will be added on September 28th. By December, it will be available in more than 100 countries around the globe.

Cydia, the standard application for managing unauthorized iOS apps and modifications, has received an unofficial update today to version 1.1.2. Although it doesn’t contain a release log, it’s said to have fixed several graphical bugs in iOS 5 and be slightly snappier. Stick around to find out how to load Cydia 1.1.2 on your iOS device today.

You’ll Need:

A jailbroken iOS device running Cydia (iOS 4.3.3 tutorial | iOS 5 tutorial). If you’ve jailbroken your device through normal means, you’re likely set.
iFile & Safari Download Manager installed on your device.
Install using iFile:

Installing the new version of Cydia using iFile is the most efficient method, and the only one if you don’t have a computer around. Here’s how to do it:

Open up Mobile Safari from your device and point it to this link.
Follow the on-screen download instructions and select "Open with iFile" when you see a prompt.
Click "Install".
Respring or restart your phone.
Once you’ve followed the above steps, you should be able to launch the new version of Cydia.

Using SSH or iPhoneExplorer:

This method can be used by those who aren’t willing to purchase iFile. Although slightly more difficult, it should be pretty easy to understand for most users. Just follow the steps below:

From your computer, download the new version of Cydia from here (it’s the same as the link above).
Connect your device to your computer and launch iPhoneExplorer (download link). Point it to /private/var/root and place the file you’ve just downloaded in that directory.
Respring or restart your phone. Once you’ve done this, Cydia should automatically update in the background.
Cydia is definitely the most popular package manager for iOS, second to the official App Store of course. Since its inception in 2008, it has become the standard way to manage unofficial iOS Apps and tweaks. Over the last few months, Saurik, Cydia’s developer, has worked hard to address many of the performance issues users have experienced. This new release takes another step towards fully fixing these problems, and begins the effort to make the software fully compatible with iOS 5, as speculated by @DinoD7, author of popular jailbreaking tutorials on YouTube:

There was no changelog to view but the assumption is that it includes some bug fixes and overall speed improvements. There’s a high likelihood that this release is one of the first steps of Cydia in its preparation for the release of iOS 5.

Jailbreak for the ios 4.3 beta update......

Apple has now rolled out 4.3 Beta 2 for iOS devices. The following detailed step by step guide will help you jailbreak iOS 4.3 Beta 1 on iPhone 4, iPad and iPod Touch 4G using PwnageTool bundles. This is a tethered jailbreak.

Here’s what you will need:

PwnageTool 4.1.2
Access to iOS 4.3 Beta firmware
iTunes 10.1.1
Mac OS X
PwnageTool bundle for iPhone 4, iPad or iPod touch 4G
Note:

Cydia is fully working on iOS 4.3 Beta.
It is a semi-tethered jailbreak.
Your baseband will not be upgraded during restore process.
WARNING: The jailbreaking procedure is complex, and hence is meant for advanced users only. It will require you to make your own ramdisk because the latest official version of PwnageTool makes a broken one for iOS 4.3. Proceed at your own risk only. We are not to be held responsible if you end up bricking your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

Modifying PwnageTool

Step 1: Download PwnageTool bundle for your version of iOS device. Extract the .zip folder, in there you will find two files: CydiaInstaller.bundle and a .bundle file, for this guide, we are using iPhone 4 bundle iPhone3, 1_4.3_8F5148b.bundle. Move all these files to your desktop.

Step 2: Download PwnageTool 4.1.2 and copy it to your desktop. Right click, and then click on “Show Package Contents” as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 3: Navigate to Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles/ and paste iPhone3, 1_4.3_8F5148b.bundle file in this location.

Step 4: Now navigate to Contents/Resources/CustomPackages and here replace theCydiaInstaller.bundle file with the version that you downloaded in Step 1, and then simply close this folder.

After modifying the pwnage tool you will need to build the custom firmware using the same tool. Here is how to do it.

Building a Custom Firmware

Step 5: Download iOS 4.3 Beta. Move this file to your desktop.

Step 6: Start PwnageTool in “Expert mode” and select your device:

Step 7: Browse for iOS 4.3 beta firmware for your device as shown in the screenshot below:

Step 8: Now select “Build” to start creating custom 4.3 firmware file:

Step 9: PwnageTool will now create the custom .ipsw file for your iPhone which will be jailbroken.

Step 10: Once you have created the custom firmware, quit PwnageTool. Don’t restore to this firmware yet.

Now you need to build the custom ramdisk. Follow the steps.

Creating Custom Ramdisk for iOS 4.3 Custom Firmware

Step 11: Download Ramdisk_Maker.zip by DjayB6, extract the file, and move the folder to your desktop.

Step 12: Now open ramdisk_maker.sh file, and edit the paths required in a program like TextEdit, as shown highlighted in the screenshot below.

Step 13: Now start Terminal and run the following commands:

"cd desktop

cd ramdisk_maker

./ramdisk_maker.sh"

Now from here on, this automated script in Terminal will guide you on what to do next as shown highlighted in the screenshot below.

Step 14: First, create a folder on desktop named My_Ramdisk. Then change the extension of the original iOS 4.3 Beta file from .ipsw to .zip, and then extract this .zip file.

Step 15: Here you will see a file named 038-0408-002.dmg. This is the file we need. Copy this file to My_Ramdisk folder that you created on desktop.

Step 16: Once you have done that, you will notice that Terminal screen will automatically move to the next step as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 17: Now go to ramdisk_maker folder that you saved earlier on desktop, here open the fileOptions.plist in a program like TextWrangler (available for free on the Mac App Store). Here change the value under SystemPartitionSize to 1116, as also shown highlighted in the screenshot below.

Step 18: Now save this Options.plist file and move it to My_Ramdisk folder. At this point, you will once again notice that Terminal will automatically move to complete the process.

Step 19: Once done, you will now notice a new file named final_ramdisk.dmg in My_Ramdiskfolder. Rename this file as 038-0408-002.dmg

Step 20: Now change the extension of the custom iOS 4.3 Beta firmware file that you created earlier from .ipsw to .zip, and then extract this .zip file.

Step 21: Here, replace 038-0408-002.dmg file with the one you created in Step 19 above.

Step 22: Now select all files, and click on “Compress 9 Items” so that it is converts back into .zip file. Now change the extension of this .zip file to .ipsw and you are done making the custom firmware, with fixed ramdisk.

Now just restore your iDevice to custom iOS you just created.

Restore iOS 4.3 Custom Firmware Using iTunes

Step 23: Start iTunes, click on your iOS device icon from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left “alt” (option) button on Mac, or Left “Shift” button if you are on Windows on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update” or “Check for Update”) button in the iTunes and then release this button.

This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your custom firmware 4.3 file. Select the required custom .ipsw file that you created in Step 22 above, and click on “Open”.

Step 24: Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps. Be patient at this stage and don’t do anything silly. Just wait while iTunes installsthe new firmware 4.3 on your iOS device. Your iOS device screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. After the installation is done, your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch will be jailbroken on iOS 4.3.

Booting in Tethered Mode

Last but not the least, since there is no untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3 yet, we will have to boot it into a tethered jailbroken state. To do this, we will make use of a utility named “tetheredboot” as shown in the steps below.

Step 25: Download tetheredboot.zip utility for Mac OS X and extract the .zip file.

Step 26: First, we will need three files from the original iOS 4.3 Beta firmware namely:kernelcache.release.n90, iBEC.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu, and iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu.

Change the extension of the original iOS 4.3 Beta file from .ipsw to .zip, like you did in Step 14 above, and then extract this .zip file.

Now copy kernelcache.release.n90 file, and then copy iBEC.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu, andiBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu files which are found under /Firmware/dfu/.

Move all these three files, and tetheredboot utility to a new folder named “tetheredboot” on the desktop as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 27: Now to boot your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch into tethered mode, connect it with your computer and start it in Recovery Mode by holding Home and Power buttons until the connect to iTunes screen appears on your device.

Step 28: Start Terminal and run the following commands:

sudo sh

enter your administrator password, then:

"cd desktop/tetheredboot

./tetheredboot iBSS kernel"

You should now see some code running in the Terminal windows, at some point, it will ask you to enter DFU mode. Now follow the following steps to enter DFU mode:

Hold Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds
Now release the Power button but continue holding the Home button for 10 more seconds
You device should now be in DFU mode
Now wait for your device to boot, Terminal at this point will be showing “Exiting libpois0n” message. After a short while, your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch will be booted in a jailbroken tethered mode !

A small village bakery called the "Green Gables & Sweets Cafe" in the western Japan city of Aizumi Tokushima Prefecture, created the "iCookie." It has received a lot of attention on Twitter and has quickly spread across food communities around the Web.

The store owner Kumiko Kudo says, "It is totally surprising to have such a big reaction. At first, the cookie was made just to meet a friend's request and I had no intention ofreceiving additional orders."

After you install Cydia heres how to add our very own daily updated repo.

1. Open Cydia. : wait for cydia to load as it may take some time

2. Go to manage

Installous

Installous once again has wowed us with its ability to be so much more than a simple app repository. Due to the overwhelming number of pirates on the previous Appulo.us server, the app now uses a better, harder, faster, stronger server that’s much, much, much more user and network friendly. Browsing and downloading apps is now easier than ever on your 3G phone. Again, we caution you to watch out for apps that are just pirated versions of App Store apps. Rather, use Installous to get those apps that are gone now from the App Store or couldn’t make it on there in the first place (like those with adult content).

Note: The install process remains the same, you need to add the hackulo.us repository to Cydia. Simply go into Cydia, navigate over to Manage, then click on Sources, and click Edit in the top right hand corner, then Add on the top left corner, once you’ve clicked add, type in “Cydia.hackulo.us” into the http repository screen. Then tap on Add Source and it’ll give you a message about piracy. Click OK on the message and download Installous through this new repo!

Cycorder

Cycorder is a little less pivotal this time around because 3GS users already know what it’s like to have a good video camera on the phone. Nevertheless, Cycorder is a tremendous app for those of us who still live just fine with our 3G iPhones. Cycorder records video just as well as it did last year and has added a few bug fixes since the writing of this article last August. Today you’ll find a much easier-to-use app as well as one that’s a bit more flexible in terms of shooting.

The ability to SSH into the phone and extract the videos remains a huge draw for those amateur videographers without video-camera equipped iPhones.

Note: REMEMBER TO FILM YOUR VIDEOS IN HORIZONTAL MODE! If you don’t, you’ll have to change the orientation of the videos in a very roundabout way.

Wi-Fi Sync

Wi-Fi Sync is a new app we're adding to the list for 2010 - a real must-see-it-to-believe it app. All it requires is that both your iPhone and PC with iTunes installed be on the same network together. Once you have the app downloaded and the required program running on your PC (with either Mac OSX or Windows 7), the software interfaces with your iPhone a single time and pairs it with your PC - much the way a Bluetooth device would be paired with its counterpart.

Once both devices are paired and ready, the software on the PC tricks your computer into thinking your iPhone is hooked up to it via USB. Then it proceeds to sync wirelessly through your network. The retail price for the app is $9.99, which may seem a bit steep, but considering that many of the iPhone users I've met don't ever hook up their iPhones to their PCs, but rather to chargers, this idea of wirelessly syncing your files, photos, videos, and music is something quite extraordinary, that Apple might want to look into in their next iOS update. Total Transparency: I ran the app using my new iPhone 4 and it ran quite well and fast - your mileage may vary when it comes to earlier iOS devices.

Cylay 3.0

In 2009 I cast off Cylay because of Apple’s new MobileMe service that can find your phone for you without need for any jailbreaking. However, in the months since then, it has come to light that MobileMe isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, so I’m changing sides here and recommending you stick with Cylay for your security needs.

Cylay functions as essentially an all-in-one security app (minus a firewall – see next page) to ensure your phone is safe and in your possession at all times. Cylay doesn’t really bring new features to the table, but it is an incredible app that no one should be walking around without.

SwirlyMMS2

MMS is a recent feature of the iPhone that has made a big splash in the tech community because it was something that EVERY other phone out there was capable of doing. Thankfully, MMS is now available on any and all text messages you send out. However, this still eats into your 200 message limit if that’s something still limiting you on your account.

Fundamentally, Swirly is a better text messaging utility than BiteSMS, but the interface is a little less user friendly than Bite’s, requiring a bit more of an iPhone geek’s touch to work appropriately. However, unlike BiteSMS, the license is valid forever.

SBSettings

SBSettings is an essential (and totally free) application. Right after you jailbreak, after OpenSSH, this should be the second app you download off Cydia. SBSettings overlays a menu that contains the basic functions of the system “options” menus. This overlay menu is easily accessed by swiping the bar at the top of the screen with the time and contains things like Brightness, 3G, Wi-Fi, and other switches to turn things on and off.

Bar none, this app is the most useful thing inside Cydia for your daily use of the phone. Especially being able to control brightness inside ANY application will show you that your jailbreak was not in vain.

MCleaner

MCleaner is basically the iBlacklist app for the iPhone, but a bit more sophisticated. Unfortunately, unlike last year when a vast majority of the apps on the store were free, MCleaner too is not free. However, you can give it a 15 day trial and see if it is for you. What it basically does is MCleaner creates blacklists and whitelists of callers that you can decide upon. Then, you can even choose how the phone will ignore a blacklisted caller for instance.

Several other security features make this an incredible app as well, even though it is a bit on the pricey side ($11.99). You can fake data instead of showing the network you typed in a wrong password, SMS previews on the lockscreen can be disabled as well, and even SMS can be filtered to prevent annoying people from contacting you.

3G Unrestrictor

Other paid apps are cool to have if you need them, but 3G Unrestrictor is a relatively cheap ($3) app that is vital if you’re ever going to take your iPhone into the “Unlimited” plan you actually purchased it for. In 2009, I advised you to get VOIPover3G, that app has been discontinued and has been replaced by a bevy of 3G restriction-lifting apps. 3G Unrestrictor continues to be the cheapest and best of the best.

What this app does is it enables you to access the 3G network for things the iPhone would normally block by tricking it into thinking that it is operating over Wi-Fi. This means that you can make Skype calls out on the middle of the highway, or watch videos over Slingbox while waiting in the doctor’s office that doesn’t have Wi-Fi. Personally, lifting the 10 Mb limits on the App Store and iTunes respectively is awesome – because now larger podcast downloads are just clicks away.

Firewall iP

Firewall iP works for you in ways that I didn’t think would be possible on an iPhone. Basically, Firewall iP functions as Zonealarm would on the PC but on your iPhone, allowing through traffic and blocking traffic just as a real firewall would. For those that jailbreak often and download a lot online, a decent firewall is great protection on a PC, but it seems like it’s quickly becoming essential on the iPhone as well.

Block your incoming and outgoing connections on an app-by-app basis with an interface similar to the one found on SBSettings. It's all integrated and works amazingly well.

Ultra-recycle

Today we’re pleased to announce our free carrier unlock for iPhone3G/3GS owners with a baseband later than 05.13.04. The unlock for that baseband exploited the AT+XAPP command, thanks to a crash initially discovered by @sherif_hashim (@Oranav also found this crash). So what hole are we exploiting today, since Apple closed that AT+XAPP hole? Well, we’re exploiting the exact same hole!

It turns out that the very first iPad firmware 3.2.2 has baseband version 06.15.00 still vulnerable to AT+XAPP. The iPad baseband is built for the exact same baseband chip as the iPhone3G/3GS — they’re fully compatible! Some of us have been running 06.15 for weeks now on our iPhones in preparation for this release. (And some have known about this possibility of 06.15 on the iPhones for a while — kudos to @w1kedZ and @DHowett for keeping it hush!)

Unlockers have been reporting mixed results about GPS functionality at 06.15.00. Until we can track down what differentiates those who retain GPS vs. those who lose it, be conservative and assume you’ll lose GPS at 06.15.00. As we work on finding the cause (and possibly a fix), please report your personal findings in our comments section. (Update: early indications are that while 06.15.00 is capable of GPS, it will require some further hacks. But please still be conservative and assume you will lose GPS at 06.15, in case the hacks don’t work).

SIMPLIFIED ROUTE #1 (redsn0w for OSX + Windows):

Read and fully understand the warning below.
If you have an old-bootrom 3GS and are already unlockable but want to get to 4.2.1, please wait til we release an “unofficial” bundle for you. Read no further.
Use redsn0w (see update #2) for OSX or Windows. Enable the “Install iPad baseband” option and accept the warning.
When the redsn0w ramdisk is finished, install ultrasn0w via Cydia.

Run PwnageTool to create a custom 4.1 IPSW. Tell it you want to use the iPad baseband you just downloaded. Restore to this custom IPSW.

Since 06.15 is a higher version than 05.14 or 05.15 (where AT+XAPP is gone), anyone stuck at those versions can simply upgrade to 06.15 to unlock again! Luckily for us, Apple *still* provides the iPad FW 3.2.2 with this vulnerable baseband right from their own servers. (Grab it now, before they take it down!)

We’ve been busy updating both PwnageTool and redsn0w to make the baseband update as seamless as possible.

First up is “PwnageTool 4.1.3 Unlock Edition”. It has a special dialog box which will ask you if you want to update to the iPad baseband. You must already have the iPad 3.2.2 IPSW on your computer (see the above link)….so just point PwnageTool at it (or let it find it on its own if you’re in “simple” mode).
Directly after PwnageTool 4.1.3 is available, the official ultrasn0w repo http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com will be updated with ultrasn0w 1.2, which covers iPhone 4 baseband 01.59.00 and iPhone 3G/3GS basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04 and now 06.15.00.
Finally, we’ll release an update to redsn0w today for those without Macs and can’t run PwnageTool. The new redsn0w will give you the option to update your baseband to 06.15 too.

WARNING — YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF UPDATING TO 06.15.

There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple. You’ll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way.
If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway).
Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won’t ever be able to restore to stock firmware (it will fail). You’ll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you’re unlocker you should already be doing that).

Certainly don’t update to 06.15 if you don’t need to! Only do this if you need the unlock and you’re stuck on 05.14 or 05.15, and you’re willing to assume the above risks.

This PwnageTool also contains a 4.2.1 bundle for iPhone3G owners…for all else, it’s still only 4.1. If you have an iPhone3GS with an old bootrom, use redsn0w for an untethered 4.2.1 jailbreak (it can now install the iPad baseband too). For all other devices, the 4.2.1 jailbreak is tethered only (use redsn0w for it), until @comex can work some untethering magic.

Update #2: The new redsn0w 0.9.6beta5 is out. It gives both Windows and OSX users the ability to flash the iPad 06.15 baseband on iPhone3G or iPhone3GS. It fetches the baseband files directly from Apple for now (the only IPSW you ever point it at is the stock IPSW for the FW on your iPhone right now). There may be a long delay while it’s doing this (their servers are currently getting pounded).

If you do flash your baseband via redsn0w, please keep it plugged into USB the whole time. You don’t want your battery to die during the flash process!

Update #3: For those Mac users with an old-bootrom 3GS who really know what they’re doing, here’s a minimal 3GS 4.2.1 bundle that will get you to 4.2.1 without updating your baseband. Be sure to uncheck “Activate the iPhone” using Expert mode. To actually jailbreak after you’ve restored with the help of that bundle, please use redsn0w. If you don’t know how to drop a bundle into PwnageTool.app, please hold off on 4.2.1 until it’s untethered for everyone (or wait for a nice tutorial from somewhere like http://iclarified.com)

Update #4: Our terrific moderators angiepangie, Confucious, sherif_hashim, dhlizard, and Frank55 have done a stupendous job moderating 7700 comments over just the first 12 hours (that’s 10 per minute for half a day!). Update #6: Developer @sbingner (author of TetherMe) has made some excellent progress devising a new hactivation method that kills two birds with one stone for all you ultrasn0w unlockers. His tool, “Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM)” tricks your iPhone and iTunes into creating legitimate activation tickets even though you’re unlocked with ultrasn0w. To help make it easier to try out @sbingner’s tool, we’ve updated redsn0w to include a new “Deactivate” option for the 3G and 3GS. Thanksgiving with Apple

With Turkey Day a few days off, today Apple publicly released FW version 4.2.1. As always, ultrasn0w unlockers please stay far far away from this official firmware (and all official firmware). Wait for the ability to create custom 4.2.1. IPSWs that don’t update your baseband! If you’re not an unlocker, read on!

The best news of all is for owners of iPhone3G, older iPhone3GS, and non-MC iPod touch 2G. Due to a combination of our original pwnage2 exploit, the arm7_go exploit, 24kpwn, and limera1n, your device is “just as jailbreakable as ever.” You reap the full benefit of an untethered 4.2.1 jailbreak.

Next are the owners of all the more recent devices. The good news there is that due to geohot’s limera1n exploit, all recent devices can be jailbroken (this will be true until Apple released new hardware that fixes geohot’s limerain exploit in the bootrom). The bad news is that right now, the 4.2.1 jailbreak is *tethered* on all of these recent devices. A tethered jailbreak means that each time your device loses battery power or needs to be rebooted, you must attach it to a PC or Mac to boot into the jailbroken state. @comex is working hard on a method that may untether the 4.2.1 jailbreak, but it will require you to have your 4.1 SHSH blobs in order to use it. No word on how much more effort it will take though (please don’t bug @comex about it!). (We also have an alternative method that may work, but @comex’s method is much more elegant.)

So when does all this 4.2.1 jailbreak action happen? Well if you’re a JB developer or tinkerer, you’ve already probably used the redsn0w mentioned in our last post to jailbreak 4.2.1 and at least get SSH working. But beyond that, there are still some last minute issues with MobileSubstrate and comex’s kernel patches that are being fixed. We’ll tweet and post a blog update when it’s all available (we hate to give ETAs, but barring any unforeseen problems, probably later today). It happens “now’…see Update #1.

In the meantime, please make sure you have your 4.1 SHSH blobs for all your devices. These will be important even for firmware beyond 4.1 (using both comex’s method and our alternative, depending on how each of them turn out.)

ultrasn0w unlock: After redsn0w is officially released with the new Cydia and kernel patches, we’ll be able to assess the unlock situation. It’s already looking very promising though, so expect the unlock for the 3G and 3GS to be coming this week. The i4 unlock is taking more effort though, and no further concrete info is available about that yet.

Update #2: The notion of a “tethered” jailbreak is pretty new to many people, so here’s a quick rundown on what to expect:

If you’re on an iPhone3G, old-bootrom iPhone3GS, or non-MC ipt2g, life is easy. redsn0w installed an untethered jailbreak and so nothing below applies.
“Tethered” does not mean you cannot boot at all without PC/Mac assistance. If you have not installed any tweaks that hook into important programs like SpringBoard or CommCenter, your device will actually boot. However, jailbreak programs like Cydia won’t work (and Cydia may still have a white icon). Also, certain built-in apps that had to be moved by Cydia will fail (Safari being the most noticeable example).
If you’ve installed MobileSubstrate tweaks that hook into SpringBoard or other important programs, your boot will actually fail (you’ll get stuck at the Apple logo). You need to use redsn0w to “Just boot tethered right now”.

Jailbreaking !!!!!

ailbreaking^[1] is a process that allows iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, and recently Apple TV users to gain root access to the command line of the iOS operating system, thereby removing usage and access limitations imposed by Apple. Once jailbroken,^[1] iOS users are able to download extensions and themes that are unavailable through the App Store (via installers such as Cydia) and perform other tasks that are not possible on store-bought devices, including installing non-Apple operating systems such as Linux.^[2] A jailbroken iPad, iPhone oriPod Touch running iOS can still use the App Store and iTunes and other normal functions, such as making telephone calls.

Jailbreaking is different from SIM unlocking,^[3] which, once completed, means that the mobile phone will accept any SIM without restriction on, for example, the country or network operator of the owners choice. Under the DMCA of 2010, jailbreaking is legal in the United States, although Apple may claim it to void your warranty.^[4] It is also legal in many other countries including the EU. The jailbreaking process can be quickly and easily reversed by restoring the device in iTunes.
