On the surface, the device appears to pack in more advanced features than Sony’s PS4 while sporting useful set-top box functionality.

Digging deeper, the One wants to replace your Apple TV, Roku, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation and any similar box by becoming the only box your TV set really needs. And yes, it indeed has what it takes to become the center of your living room. Go past the fold for the full breakdown…

On the hardware front, the One is a powerhouse: it runs an eight-core x86 processor with 8GB RAM, has USB 3.0 and 500GB of storage space and HDMI in and out. Microsoft also touted over five billion transistors driving the One.

The console’s unassuming design may come as a disappointment to some of you, but being hiddable has its advantages given a plethora of fugly set-top boxes already fighting for space under your TV set.

The system relies on the enhanced Kinect for pretty much everything you do. That’s why the Windows maker has decided to ship a Kinect sensor with every Kinect One sold. That’s right, the Kinect is no longer an optional accessory and now comes standard with every Xbox One unit sold.

The new Kinect is responsible for voice-activated features used throughout the system. In addition to powering the system up and down with your voice, you can pause a movie by saying ‘Xbox, pause’, resume playing (‘Xbox, resume’) and so forth.

And the instant you power up the system, the One recognizes who you are, what movies and television shows you like and tailors the revamped Home screen to your liking.

And here’s the redesigned controller.

The unsightly battery bump on the back is finally gone for good, enabling Microsoft’s industrial designers to create a sleeker unit. Not only does the redesigned controller feels more natural in your hands, it’s control buttons are more accessible now.

Another cool feature: the One’s built-in Kinect microphone is so sensitive to your presence that it can pick up your heartbeat while you’re exercising and process audio personalized to specific individuals. In fact, the One’s always-on listening mode means the system is “ready when you are.”

Specifically, the new Kinect listens to you at all times, allowing you to power up the One simply by saying ‘Xbox On’, even when the console is turned off. The always-on listening relies on the One running in an extremely low-power state which keeps only the basic features active.

Another killer feature: the One integrates with your existing cable set-top box, a feature we’ve long held Apple should add to its Apple TV hockey-puck. This means you can navigate and watch live TV from your cable, telco or satellite set-top box through your One.

And with the ability to switch to, say, ESPN straight from a video game just by saying ‘Xbox, ESPN’, the new Xbox has a lot to offer as a home theater entertainment device.

But wait, there’s more.

With the new Snap multitasking feature, you can play a game while watching your favorite movie, or chat with friends on Skype (group Skype calls are supported) while watching live TV or track your fantasy team on TV as you watch the big game.

How to create ringtones for your iPhone using iTunes

How many times have you been sitting around with friends when their phone rings and you hear the opening theme to Knight Rider, or the subtle hum of the Starship Enterprise and thought to yourself, “Dang, I wish I had that ringtone.” Well, now you can and it won’t cost you a dime.

You can convert any song or audio clip in your iTunes library into a ringtone with a few simple steps. We’ve got a step-by-step tutorial to show you how to create awesome ringtones that will make you the envy of the party…

Step 1: Launch iTunes on your desktop or laptop computer.

Step 2: Pick the song or audio file you want to use from your iTunes library.

Step 3: Right click on the song and select “Get Info.”

In the Get Info window, selection the Options tab and change the Stop and Start Time to read the segment of the song that you want to save as a ringtone. The ringtone length cannot exceed 30 seconds. If you want to start at the beginning of the song, set the start time to 0:00 and the end time to the number of seconds you want the ringtone to be. If you want to start at the chorus of a song, play it first to determine what time the chorus starts and then use that number as the Start Time, and no more than 30 seconds after that as the Stop Time. For example, Start Time – 2:15, Stop Time – 2:45. When you have entered the Start and Stop Time, click OK.

Step 4: Right click on the song again and select “Create Apple Lossless Audio File”

iTunes will take the segment you have just selected from the song in Step 3 and use it to create the new file. A second song with the same name but new length should appear right next to the original in iTunes.

Step 5: Right click on the new song and select “Show in Finder.” (If you are using a Windows-based operating system, select “Show in Windows Explorer)

The new song will show up in your Finder window as an .m4a file. Select it.

Step 6: Rename the extension of the file from .m4a to .m4r. Make sure you rename the extension, not the file. This step is very important. Changing it to .m4r turns the file into a ringtone.

Step 7: Go back to iTunes and delete the newly created short song.

When asked whether you want to move the selected song to the Trash or keep it in iTunes, select “Keep File.” This step is also important. If you do not remove this song, the ringtone will not save to iTunes properly.

Step 8: Go back to Finder (or Windows Explorer) and double click on the .m4r file. The ringtone will automatically move to your iTune’s Tone library.

Step 9: Connect your iPhone to iTunes.

Step 10: Select the “Tones” tab from the iPhone section.

Under the Tones section, select “Sync All Tones” and then click on the “Sync” button at the bottom of the iTunes screen.

When your iPhone is done syncing, the new ringtones can be found in your Settings app on your device.

Go to Settings> Sounds> Ringtone and select your new clip. These clips can also be used as text message tones, so you can really let your creativity shine.

Now get out there and start making some sweet ringtones. I’m tired of hearing the same old “Marimba” song.

In a better-late-than-never announcement, Canada-based BlackBerry today posted a surprising announcement confirming it will be bringing its BlackBerry Messenger platform to Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android platform. Yes, BlackBerry’s killer app won’t be exclusive anymore.

BlackBerry’s move comes amid consolidation in the instant messaging space. Two increasingly popular services, Viber and WhatsApp, recently passed 200 million users each.

With iMessage pretty much ruling the messaging game on iOS devices and Google’s rumored unified chatting platform dubbed Babel expected soon, it is no surprise that BlackBerry Messenger will be available to mobile users who don’t use BlackBerry devices…

The official announcement on the company’s blog lists the following features that will be initially supported on iOS and Android:

Step One
Ensure you iPhone is on iOS 6.0 to iOS 6.1 then perform a backup of your iPhone using these instructions.

Step Two
Create a folder called Pwnage on your desktop and download the Evasi0n utility into the folder. You can find download links for Evasi0n here.

Step Three
Double click the Evasi0n dmg file from the Pwnage folder on your desktop to mount it.

Step Four
Drag the Evasi0n application from the mounted dmg into the Pwnage folder on your desktop.

Some of it's free while other modules are unlocked via in-app purchases, but at least that means you get to give it a shot for free.

9. Holo Music Player

The idea behind this one is to bring the "Holo" Android 4.0 visual style to all Android models, also offering loads of swipe-activated control features. In terms of music playing innovations there aren't many here, but you do get some smart Home screen widgets and lock screen controls. Plus it could convince someone you've got Android 4.0 on your old T-Mobile Pulse.

A properly hardcore option here.
