I wasn't going to get one right away but I was very impressed and I called the Apple Store at "The Pier" in Atlantic City. It was 11:30AM on Saturday morning. Yes, they have some. They just got in. Only 8GB and 16GB in Black came in just this morning.
I think I hung up before I made the 35 mile trip to AC but I could be wrong. I zoomed as fast as possible and got there about 50 minutes later. I said to my son, Jimmy, who accompanied me on the trek, that their is no way we get on. I pull into Ceasars AC Valet Parking. $30!!!!! no way. I drive around saying that I'm not getting one but I came so far so I have to try. Find a $10 parking lot near the AC Convention Center, about 3 blocks from the AC Apple Store. We begin to walk. Finally we enter "The Pier" after a walk past 3 strip clubs, 2 street vendors and who knows what else, I get to the Apple store. Two people in line and I ask "Are there any more iPhones?". Yes but only 16GB in Black. WOO HOO... yes. that's what I'm looking for. 15 minutes later, I'm walking out with my 3G waiting for it to activate. Yes! it's online and I"m in 3G goodness.
More to come on my reactions to the new phone.

So perhaps that is why I am a little upset that Apple hasn’t been able to launch their MobileMe service properly and are experiencing outages. The fact that the service was supposed to launch at a time of Apple’s choosing, leaves no room for excuses on today’s problems. I think that it's intermittent now. I do have it loaded on my macbook now but it keeps prompting me to sync my contacts every 30 minutes or so. I guess it's not fully baked yet. I'll bet the retired Bill Gates is sitting at home getting more than a few chuckles over this. I actually installed it yesterday through some links on Engadget. I wasn't able to get to MobileMe until later this afternoon. I'm now syncing with my corp exchange server just like I used to with my old Motorola Q. I've already purchased two applications. Well, actually, they're games. Cro-Mag racing (Wii like controls.. very fun... good graphics) and Enigmo (another great puzzle game). Both are great and very different from any other pocket size games available.

The big surprise for me is MobileMe. I basically use 4 different computers (Dell Latitude, Dell Inspiron (corp), MacBook, and IMac). I've dreamed of the ability to read mail on any of these devices, delete items, send items, and then have all other machines updated. I also want the ability to do this from my iPhone. I'm still working with the software and setup of the new software but MobileMe promises this capability. I'll keep the blog updated on my progress.

Another thing that's been on my mind is the use of the words iPhone Apps. My lucky insight over a year ago has paid off.. maybe it will drive some traffic to this sight.

My strategy is to load the 2.0 firmware on my current rev 1.0 iPhone. If the speed is acceptable, I'm not sure it's worth another year commitment to AT&T and possibly $45/month for "business data" access. Does anyone know what the definition of "Business data access" means? Does that mean push email? well, is that worth $20 more a month? for two years? for $240? My feeling is that I'll wait initially and maybe until a 32GB or 64GB with tether capabilty comes out.

read more | digg story
