Hi Girish,

How are you doing? I havn't been in contact with you for so long as I am tied down with tons of assignments and examinations are just around the corner. Anyway, I would like to contribute (finally), to the next reader's day, if it is ok.

The photo, taken on an iPhone, is a new foal named Sonic which is borned in my polo club. She was just 4 days long when the photo was taken. The white horse is her mum. I feel that this photo is really sweet so I would like to share with the rest!

Wishing you and the team well!

Regards,
Ling

POTD: Winter Tree

2012-01-11T21:40:00.001-08:00

I took this picture with my iPhone 4 when I had been to Greenwich Park this weekend. The sky was a bit overcast and the atmosphere was a bit dull. All the trees were barren and that made it a good choice to click the picture in HDR (High Dynamic Range) mode. I have a few more interesting pictures of such winter dead trees and I will send them all in a few days of time.

1)      Snapseed
Taken with Bracket Mode and then converted into an HDR in HDR Fusion before enhancing in Snapseed.

POTD: Monkeys from the Old World

2012-01-09T23:23:00.000-08:00

Apparently there are 125 species of monkeys discovered so far and at a very high level they are divided from being either from the Old World or the New World. New World is represented by countries in Central and South America, whereas the Old World is comprised of countries in Africa, Asia and Europe. Predictably, most of the monkeys are from the Old world. The main difference between the two types of monkeys is their nose – New World monkeys have flatter and wider noses.

Did you know?
Gorillas don't have tails, whereas monkeys do.

POTD: Rewards of simple life

2012-01-04T15:03:00.000-08:00

To find the universal elements enough;

to find the air and the water exhilarating;

to be refreshed by a morning walk

or an evening saunter;

to be thrilled by the stars at night;

to be elated over a bird's nest

or a wildflower in spring

- these are some of the rewards of the simple life.

~ John Burroughs, Naturalist (1837-1921) ~

This is a picture of Swallow Falls in Wales. I took it when I was just starting to understand my new DSLR earlier last year in May 2011. Back then, I didn’t know the slow shutter technique and neither did I have the required polarising or neutral density filters. If I were to take this shot again with my improvised knowledge on the subject, the flowing water would come out much smoother than you see here. Nevertheless, I like the picture because of the abundant greenery around the waterfall. I love going to Wales because of this pristine beauty you get to experience there.

Snapseed, my perennial go-to app for almost every photo, is surprisingly available for FREE

2011-12-31T00:15:00.001-08:00

I love this app and had myself bought it at its full price of £2.99. Seems like while going on the New Year celebrations, they decided to let the price loose... Grab it while you can!

POTD: Sunrise Landscapes - Part2 + Thank You Note

2011-12-30T12:46:00.001-08:00

I personally don't believe too much in the concept of old year and new year – I think we live in a continuum of time moving from one moment to the other. Nevertheless, I would like to take a pause at this point in time and thank you all for your strong support and constant encouragement which prodded me on to develop this huge passion for photography. Without your help, it would have been impossible to sustain my new found hobby for this long. We have come a long distance in the last four and a half months during which our POTD membership has soared to nearly seventy (70) members (in GS) and we have been able to share 300+ photos in the group. It is a bit of an oxymoron when compared to the beginning of my note, but I would like to wish you and your families a very fun filled and dreams fulfilling Happy New Year!

Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.
