Find my iPhone or iPad for- free service

2010-12-11T09:31:00.001+00:00

We all have been there at least once, yes that big moment that we understand that we are missing something very important, in the old days it was our home / car keys, then it was our laptop and today its our iPhone or iPad.
I just came from my friend house after spending more then 1 hour trying to help him find his iPhone (the phone was set to vibrate only).. after we spent 1 hour with no luck, my friend remembered he installed the "find my iPhone" service.
2 min after that we have been able to find his iPhone :)

Apple has decided to come to the help and "give away" freely their find my iPhone or iPad service.
With the new service (that off course you need to register first to use it) you can

Locate your iPhone or iPad and see it on a map on Apple web site (mobile me)
"Ask" your device to play a sound - even if the device is set on Vibrate
Send your device a message that will show on the screen , even if the screen is locked
Wipe your device remotely
Set a Pass code remotely

One request based on Apple web site, is that you have iOS 4.2 running on your device and off course have an iDevice with a built in GPS.

To see this working, check this video

Here is a step by step guide from Apple web site describing how to set this up.

iPhone bug in iOS 4.1 - bypass any lock screen

2010-10-26T08:57:00.000+01:00

Hi
As more and more people are using iOS 4.1, more and more users are also trying to bypass the security mechanism the iOS is supplying.
A new bug has been found that allows people with iOS 4.1 to bypass the locked screen and reach some apps.

To bypass any lock screen simply hit "emergency call", then enter three pound signs, hit the green call button and immediately press the lock button and you will have bypassed the security feature on the iPhone. "That simple procedure gives a snoop full access to the Phone app on the iPhone, which contains the address book, voicemail and call history and even your photo album (now that this bug is on the wild , maybe other people will find that they can reach more apps and do more stuff)

To get to your photo album, selecting "share contact" and then the camera icon will give you access to the photo album.

Change your iPhone fonts

2010-10-22T20:44:00.002+01:00

Hi,
Let me start with an oppolgy of not updating the blog for awhile now (any case not in the same frequency I have been used to) - I got tied with new projects at work , new Android phone that I got and upgraded to last OS version 2.2 (this wasn't easy as doing a jailbreak on unlock !!)

Any case, I have seen that an application I am using today named FontSwap (@ Cydia) that is allowing me to use other fonts on my old iPhone running OS 3.x will not work on iOS 4.x .

You can see an example on what I am talking about in this video.

Looking on this fact that I should get my iPhone 4 any day now, I was disappointend I can't change its fonts.
While browsing and looking around I came across this web site, that is explaining you what you should do in order to change the fonts on your iOS 4.x device. :)

This site is full of fonts you can use for your iPhone.

iOs 4.1 jailbreak is out .....

2010-10-10T06:40:00.000+01:00

One day before of time while working very quietly there is a new jailbreak for iOS 4.1 - thanks to Geot
This break is coming one day before the break that should be released today buy other people named TheDevTeam.
Note: This only allows you to install apps from various places and not only from AppStore, this doesn't open your iDevice to sim free.

This break is working on the following devices for now (its not a one click break - as opposed to previous jailbreakme.com hack)
iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4 and will also jailbreak iPod Touch 3G & 4G

Check out the manual here (you can also see comments on people that already tried it)

Google goggles is now available for iPhone

2010-10-07T23:17:00.003+01:00

Hi,
Seems everyone is having fun using the new application from google on their iPhone (its up and running on Android for 11 months already).
The application (that can be downloaded on AppStore for free) is named google goggles and it let you do a online search by taking a photo of the object you want to get more information on.
The tool is very easy to use , as you can see in the movie, and I am sure the database will growth from minute to minute , so it will be a real nice addition to the way we can learn...

The application can run only on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 - as this are the iDevices that have a camera with auto-focus feature.
The iPhone must run iOS 4.x.
Based on google, it works well for things such as landmarks, logos, and the covers of books, DVDs and games. However, it doesn't yet work for some things as animals, plants or food.

The application is really fun to use, I have been using it on my other cell phone that is running android for couple of weeks now.

More info can be found here

2010-10-03T16:32:00.000+01:00

The latest update is about using Google Voice (also for Israeli people)

I really recommend checking this out and giving a try to couple of this blogger suggestions.
I am sure this can save you couple of $ after you finish reading this.

iPhone and other cell phones radiation

2010-09-18T20:53:00.000+01:00

Hi,
I just was looking to write about something that wasn't spoken a lot in the last couple of months.
I have been reading a little bit about cell phone radiation and wanted to share with you some quick findings (I didn't get to deep into this , while I only scratched the surface - seems there is lot of tools out there to help out on this issue).
Seems there are level to measure cell phone radiation and there is a big debate over this influence on out body.
There is a level to each phone out there and you can see a sample over here
http://reviews.cnet.com/2719-6602_7-291-2.html?tag=page;page
The solutions vary from sticker you put on your cell, special cover cases or the easy way is not use your cell.

https://www.pongresearch.com/Default.aspx - case
http://www.sarshield.com/ - sticker (check the movie on their web site)

While doing my reading I came across also some old stories that one you can find below.
There was the Israeli application that allowed you to track the radiation level of your iPhone - the app wasn't approved by Apple (lets guess why)... http://modmyi.com/forums/iphone-news/702910-apple-rejects-app-monitors-cell-radiation.html

Seems this issue is getting more and more attention as health awareness is on the raise - so take care for your self and try to speak less on your cell, same goes about surfing via 3G.

Wishing you all a nice week,

Saving costs - Social buying groups.

2010-09-06T06:13:00.001+01:00

This is another post that belongs to the more section of this blog, but this post can save you lot of money (for people that live in Israel).
There is a new trend of "social buying groups" that let you get amazing deals for 50% discounts and some time even a bigger discount on different products out there.
The products that are published belongs to different categories like:

Food
Spa and pleasure
Presents and stuff for your home
Sports
etc.

I am aware about the following sites that are providing this great service, I warmly recommend to register and get their daily deal.

I already used this sites services for couple of time and it's real money saver.
The deals are usually open to 24/48 hours.
The copun you get is valid most of the time to 1/2 year or more, so there is no rush to use it.
For now most of the deals are in the center area, but I see the sites are starting to prepare sections that are dedicated to Jerusalem and Haifa.

Run and use it.

The next web browser to your iPhone - including support to flash.

2010-09-05T21:32:00.000+01:00

Hi
I don't know if it will even be released at the appstore , but a company named SkyFire has requested apple to add their new web browser to the appstore.
This browser is already workking on Android , Symbian and Windows Mobile.

This web browser is also supporting flash web sites , by taking the flash movie and doing an online decoding and formatting the movie to HTML 5 and by that allowing us to see the movie.

Here is a sample of how does it look, in case it will be approved I will be happy to see a comparison movie of performance between this browser and the Safari.

iOS 4.1 to fix slowness of iPhone 3G

2010-09-03T20:44:00.000+01:00

Hi
It was written already all over that iOS 4.0 has made the owners of iPhone 3G to be very disappointed.
Every person that upgraded his iOS got stuck with a slow iPhone.
There have been also some workarounds (disabling some services) that allowed people to still be able to work with their iPhone.

Finally the new iOS 4.1 that should be released next week should also include a fix for this issue.
The iOS was already released to the developers as beta version (which most of the times is the same as the full release)

Below you can see a movie that shows a speed test between iPhone 3G with iOS4.0 to iPhone 3G with iOS4.1 --> seems Apple fixed the problem

I do hope that the unlock and jailbreak will come soon after 4.1 will be released so everyone can enjoy this update and fix up.

Enjoy your weekend
