I have had this app on my phone forever and never ever used it, until now! I had picked it up in one of my free sprees in the app store, you know where grab about 30 free apps to try them all out and keep the ones you like, because they are FREE. In fact I haven’t really been up on all the new TV series until these last couple weeks when the weather started to turn for the worst up here in Portland.

The app is TV.COM. It allows you to watch wherever you are. It is goes by the same concept as Hulu and Fancast, which allow you to watch the episodes online shortly after they are. Now they way they make this applicable to the iPhone is by breaking up the episodes into parts. So, if you choose to watch an episode of CSI, you will be brought to a new window to watch part 1 of 8. Once that part is over you just click on part 2 of 8, and so forth.

This method of watching TV can really get your nerves. But you will learn to get patience and truly value this app when you are stuck in an hour line at some crappy no entertainment place like the DMV. Then, you will be like “damn I wish I could watch TV”. Then, ding ding, the light will go off in your head and you will realize that right there in your handy iPhone is TV.COM!

Yes, the shows are broken up into a million parts. Yes, sometimes (rarely) the picture will get a little pixelated because your connection is slow. BUT YOU CAN WATCH TV ON YOUR PHONE. Additional features include organization by shows, shows by channel, my feed (a customizable list of shows you like),  favorite episodes, categories, and tools. I like this app, I give it 4 stars.

Well, I wouldn’t quite call it a rebuttal but on Wednesday’s show, Rose, our new addition reviewed Skee-Ball. I am actually stoked that she did this because I found my new nemesis. Not Rose, Skee-Ball! To be honest I didn’t think it would be my type of game because I really tend to gravitate to first person/zombie/blood/massacre/strategy games. I downloaded Skee-Ball during the show as she was doing the review because in an earlier episode Sabrina did a review of 10 Balls 7 Cups. So, I was like fine! Damnit! What the hell is this all about?

I played a couple of rounds during her review and I got a little annoyed because I couldn’t nail all the balls into the 100 cup. Hell, I couldn’t even get two in the 100 cup. I got to a point where I throwing all the balls super fast getting pissed, just trying make them all land in that area. So, then I played serious and was like okay, just get one ball in every cup. It took me like five tries and I kept getting them all except the last one hundred. I couldn’t do it. I keep wasting 5 balls on the two 100′s and then don’t have enough balls for the other cups.

ARGHHHHHHGHGHHGHFHODH! All I have to say is that this app is the devil and I can’t stop playing it. The main reason is because I am not about to settle for anything less than a huge high score.I can’t even pass 1700. It’s on Skee-Ball, It’s on!

For those people that know me, this won’t come as any surprise. For those of you that don’t, get ready to hear me nerd out for a few minutes.

I absolutely LOVE Hidden Object games. I will also say that I am the self-proclaimed reigning queen of HO games. I’ve pretty much played them all on my Mac, and have played a few on the iPhone as well. I like to call them, Findin’ the Shit games. “Hey Sabrina, what are you doing?” “I’m findin’ shit!”

With the purchase of my new iPod Touch last week, I’ve been going game crazy and one of the first new ones I bought was Buckingham Palace: Hidden Mysteries by Big Fish Games.

I thought the game play on this game was good, easy to navigate through it, easy to search through the scenes to find the objects. I had to remind myself to use the landscape mode from time to time especially when it came to the mini-games at the end of each level. I hardly had to use the zoom feature to find the objects, they weren’t obvious as hell and there were a few that were slightly harder to find. I liked the hint system, easy and not overly complicated. I finished the entire game in two sittings, about 2-3 hours I guess.

What really bugged me about this game though were the mini games! I can’t recall the last time I had to go digging online to find out how to get through a level. Honestly, I’m the kind of person that when I get stuck, I’ll put it down and return to it later. Much later. With these types of games however, I’m a fuckin’ madwoman, I don’t like not knowing where something is or how to do it. I had to search game hints for this game for almost every level.

Like I said, and I’m not trying to completely toot my own horn by saying that I really know what I’m doing with these types of games but it makes it that much more frustrating for me to know that #1 there are other people out there having a hard time with it, and #2 that I can’t get past the level to move on. The mini-games were stupid on this game, some were obvious as hell, but it took an act of god to get you there. If you go to the app page for this game, you will see a lot of people posting reviews that say kind of the same thing, if you need help, go to the forums.

It’s really a turn off to this iPhoneSlut to know that there’s a dedicated forum to something. It’s like knowing that there are issues to something before you buy it. I usually won’t buy an app if I know that there’s a forum for hints and such, and I didn’t check on this one because I love HO games. I love the Big Fish iPhone games too don’t get me wrong. As a matter of fact the first HO game I played on the iPhone was Everest and I loved it, I played that one all the way through in one night. The price of $4.99 was totally worth it.

This Buckingham Palace HO game was ok, not my favorite. If you do decide to get it, make sure you have the forum bookmarked first, you will need it.

When I first got  iCopter I played it once and decided it was as horrible as Awesome Ball. But, the other day I was sitting in my car bored as hell. Now usually, my go to apps are Sonic and iFishing. I played both and got tiresome because I was stuck in the car for like an hour and a half. So, I decided to stroll through my apps and find something I wanted to try again or play something I hadn’t touched in awhile. I tried Boxing Lite and Jelly Car but neither of them were doing it for me. Next, I came across iCopter and went for it. I played one level and got knocked out pretty quick.

Basically you are a helicopter flying forward in a tube. Your objective is to move up or down and avoid the obstacle blocks coming at you as you fly forward. Simple, yet addictive. I got frustrated after my first try and was all “no way in hell this game is getting the best of me.” Sure as shit the next time I looked up was when I arrived to my destination. Hell yes, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with iCopter and to be honest I am going to let it sit there for awhile and come back to it when I really need it.

Well… if you’re reading this, then it’s highly likely that you have an iPhone.

If you have an iPhone, then chances are your life has been changed in more ways than one since you got it. If your life has been changed because of your iPhone, like mine has, then you can’t envision your life without the beauty of it. From games, to informational apps, to music, to photos, to MMS, to the friggen basic calculator…… it is, hands down, a beautiful thing!!

And, honestly, when I see people out and about in public, or even family members for that matter, that have the blackberry. Eeek… I just cringe and sort of pity them and feel sorry for them. Granted, maintaining an iPhone account through AT&T is pretty spendy. Luckily, my account and usage is a write off. Every last dime is a write off for my business, because if I didn’t have my iPhone, I wouldn’t be able to run my business. Yah, sure, I could revert back to the RAZR or the KRAZR… or something gay like that… but now that I’ve owned an iPhone…. well…. that’s just not an option. It is a computer in your pocket… (which, ask Sabrina, I’m famous for my pocket/butt dialing)

Now… not sure about you guys, but I’ve had sooooooooooooo many dropped calls lately. And I realize that the reception at my house/home office isn’t the greatest and I can blame it on that for the dropped calls at my house. But today for instance, I was tootling along the road, talking to my sister, and got the quatro beep beep beep beep… and I was like, “FUCK THIS PHONE!!!” (which is my common expletive when I lose a call). Is it just me?? Is it just MY iPhone? Or are any of you having numerous dropped calls? If you Google “dropped iPhone calls” you’ll come across about one bazillion websites attesting to the amount of dropped phone calls. C’mon AT&T…. fix it… We paid high dollar for our phones, we continue to pay the whatever 150 plus bones a month for our service. The phone itself, and the iTunes capability factor are out of this world. AT & T needs to step it up. Dropping calls is un-satisfying. Get some more satellites man!! You can AFFORD THEM!!

That being said, and being bitter about my amount of dropped phone calls, I will stand by my iPhone. It is the best damn invention since beer……. and let’s face it… beer is pretty damn good……..

Word… Thoughts??

p.s…. OH…. and I’m still waiting for Sabrina and Emily to kick my ass in Mr. Aaaahhhhh….. they aren’t playing it… they are afeared…. afeared of the Mr. Aahhhhh MASTER here……..

It’s finally here! The official Starbucks application for the iPhone. It’s called myStarbucks. I will warn you right now, this app has lots of stuff jam packed in it and on my initial sit down with it, I messed around with it for about 15-20 minutes – give yourselves some time going through the app on the first run.

The first thing I did with this app was choose my nearest local store (which I occupy about 3-4 times a week) and made that my store. I also selected a couple others that I go to on a regular basis. I then jumped right into creating my drinks. I have 2-3 different ones that I order on a regular basis depending on what the weather is like. I know way too many people who will order a hot drink on a 90 degree day and watch them sweat even more. It’s gross. My usual drink order: a double tall soy no whip mocha. I do wish however, that my favorite stores would list hours by their addresses. I’m familiar with the hours for my nearest one, but it would be a nice thing to have.

The app takes you through a very easy and basic selection method. You pick either a hot or cold drink, what type of coffee you want, drink size (which was really cool as you can pinch or zoom to change the size). The next part is where you can get creative with your drink. You can select how many shots you want, the type of milk, syrup, toppings (mmm caramel), if you want it double blended, with a double cup, and choosing your add-ins. There’s also a handy nutrition tab at the bottom that made me realize I was drinking 190 calories with my regular mocha. I guess it’s not THAT bad….right?

You can also select your favorite Starbucks yum yum food and put it in your favorites. It sorts it by bakery, breakfast sandwiches, salads, treats etc. You name it, they’ve got it in there, hopefully your local Starbucks store does too. The last little bit you can select from are the wide variety of coffees they have if you buy your beans from there. It gives a brief description of the flavor of the bean and even has photos of them.

All in all, I really like this app. It was very nicely designed, super easy to use, and this is one that I will definitely use again. AND I found out just this morning (via SiliconFlorist.com), that the developers of this app are local here in Portland, Oregon! The company is called Small Society and you can read more about them at http://smallsociety.com – they did an awesome job on this one! We heart local devs!

So, when you think of PayPal you think of Ebay, and vise versa. Well, what’s not so hand in hand is making them two separate iphone apps. Which I understand because they are two different applications but I wish they were just intertwined into one application where you could control all of your PayPal and Ebay info. Well, this is not the case.

Anyway let’s start with PayPal. When you open PayPal you have to go through the whole account thing, email, login, and so forth. Once you are in you have four basic things you can do. One, you can check your balance. Two, you can go to history which displays your recent transactions. Three, you can send money.  Four, information (sign up, contact us, forget password, pin log in). Did those options sound boring? Well, they are that is pretty much the jist of the whole application. It is really clean and functions well, but who really does that much with their PayPal account and needs a seperate application just to perform these functions.

Next is Ebay, which is better than PayPal, but would be even better if you had all of your PayPal options in the Ebay app, right? Ebay is pretty much what you would expect, a mobile version of the web site. You can do a search which consists of: buying format, category, sort, price range, max distance. You can also go to my Ebay. Here you can log in and check all of your Ebay account information like what you are selling, what you have bought, messages, and your recent searches. The app is really well put together. I also like when you search you can see thumbnails in the list view which is extremely nice. Also you can toggle back and forth between an item and list view without losing you place in the search. Major plus, seeing as CraigsPhone fails on this.

So, I understand the purpose and functionality on both, but I believe these could be merged into one app solving all your needs without having to load and go back and forth between them which we all know is annoying and time consuming.

For those of you who follow my other Twitter Account (Sabrina Miller) you should.

I honestly wasn’t too impressed with the new and improved iTunes 9, but that was at initial glance, when everyone and their mother was trying to download it and play around with it. I didn’t know where the categorization of apps went (genres), the pull down tabs didn’t work and the mother fucker crashed on me 4 times as I was trying to copy a link to an app for the previous post.

I’ve now had about 24 hours to play around with it and I must say that things have gotten better. I haven’t had it crash, have been able to find what I’m looking for now that the tabs work, although some of the more internal pages look the same. I suspect they will be getting to this soon.

I’ve been following some local Portland peoples tweets and finding that most people like the new iTunes, while some think there’s poo behind the whole thing.

Here’s a great example of getting a solution found for an iTunes playlist problem that I heard some were having:

9.0 version of iTunes has some bugs. None of my Smart Playlist that contain Podcasts will sync to my portable device.

Yesterday (09-09-09) was another Apple keynote and music announcement. We all now know that new iPods and iPod Touches are now available, as is iTunes 9 and included in all of this is a new iPhone 3.1 update as well.

Well, thank you Apple. While the Apple event was going on during our last episode, a very kind listener instant messaged us this:

“apple is listening to you guys because it was just announced that iTunes 9 will let you arrange your apps within itunes and then sync it that way on your iphone!”

Thank you listener for letting us know while we were live (I love IM + show interaction) and thank you Apple for listening to your consumers and striving to give us what we’ve been asking for.

I personally don’t have too much of a problem with the way this all works although I’ve read some blogs out there beating it down. Everything from “it feels like it was slapped together” to ” you can’t do this, you can’t do that…, I really need it to do this…” –  Blah, blah, blah.

I gotta tell ya, I really don’t care, it’s something that works, it’s better than the alternative, and it’s still in a ‘first’ stage and I’m sure that feature will get better in time – for those of you who think it sucks. Bite me. It’s a beautiful thing. Thank you Apple.

I don’t have too many gripes when it comes to the iPhone.

Well, ok, the phone call quality sometimes really sucks, about 1/4 of the calls will eventually drop, there will be an inevitable app that will run in the background causing the battery to suck life worse than a bad Dracula movie, but still, not too many gripes

I’ve talked about this before and aside from my inability to be satisfied to have just one iPhone case (my awesome Paul Frank Monkey case), I really wish there was the ability to organize my apps via the iTunes application dashboard. Nothing is more frustrating than the jiggle of the apps and knowing that you just won’t win.

Tomorrow is the day my fellow iPhone friends…so much rumor and speculation about these types of Keynote events. I always watch about 3 different live blogs to see what’s going down….then I watch the keynote as soon as it’s available to watch. I’m a hot nerd like that I guess. The rumored announcements of a new iPod with a camera are cool and so is the Blu-Ray deal I guess, but nothing will compare to the joy I will hopefully find tomorrow as they announce that I (and everyone else that gets pissed of by this) will no longer have to endure the time consuming, want to slam down the phone moments that we feel when trying to have a little organization with our iPhone apps.

Just know that this girl will be a happy girl if and when that is announced!

Their new tagline is ” We’re on the Driver’s Side” from 76 – you know, the gas stations (in some areas I think they are still Conoco Phillips). This app is supposed to be the great excuse maker for when you get pulled over, it’s called Ticket Talker 3000. Yup, there’s an app for trying to get out of a ticket…go figure!

The app is stupid simple, just a big speaker looking thing that you press to give you another excuse for that nice cop. There no options to speak of, it would have been nice to select a man’s voice or a woman’s voice. I don’t think a cop would buy the fact that I’m giving him an excuse in a dude’s voice. The voice itself sucks, it’s a computerized voice that just sounds so fake…if I’m gonna give a cop a good excuse, I’m gonna be as sincere with my plead as possible. Perhaps I’m just supposed to listen to the excuses and then come up with the best one?

There’s so much more that you could have done with this app, but I understand the need to make things as simple as possible. You could have put up a game board with options on it that you could choose from. The randomizer on this app just doesn’t apply… If I get pulled over, I’m already nervous as hell, I don’t need to cop to think I’m getting into anything weird as I’m trying to fuck with my iPhone!

Bottom line, I’m glad this app was free. I just don’t see myself using it… I can be creative enough with my excuses without using this app… here’s a hint… use the “I gotta pee really, really bad” tactic… it works every time!

If you get a kick out of screwing with people then I have the app for you.  You will need to have two things before buying this app.  One, patience, two, attention span.  The app is called Scary Voice.  The app records a voice memo and warps it to have an effect.  You know, the scary man voice on the phone in all the Scream movies.

It sets it to default to make you a scary voice but when you go into the options panels you actually have a variety of controls.  There are controls for pitch, rate, and speed, so that you can customize your own new voice.  There is also an option for a higher quality conversion which in return will take longer to convert your voice to the new voice.

The graphics are shit, but the end result is quite hilarious.  I sang the entire Billy Idol “Dancing with Myself” and then played it back in a deep scary monster voice.  It was awesomely disturbing.

Yes kids, I know. We are right at the end of August, WTF am I doing reviewing a Halloween app already? Well, here’s what I figure…most of the card shops and stores will be gearing up for it here in another week anyway, if not already, so I’m just getting a jump start along with them, what’s wrong with that?

The developers of the app,  reMovem have been gearing up for their latest app release for a while now: reMovem Halloween Edition by Mundue, LLC. If you’ve never heard of the game reMovem, it was the top free app for awhile in the early days of the App Store. It’s a dead-simple bubble bursting game, matching as many clusters of the same color as you can to clear the board. The free version was also on Apple’s top ten list for all of 2008.

Their awesome Halloween edition game is only out for a limited time! The colored bubbles have been replaced with witches, pumpkins, ghosts, spiders and cats. The concept of the game is the same, it’s just been given a bit of a theme facelift. The graphics are clean, bright and clear which I loved. I can’t stand playing games with muddled graphics. The sound effects are good too, a creaking door when you first start a game, a howl when you match the witches and so on. I do like that fact that I can post this game on a global leaderboard or have scores published to my Facebook or Twitter account, which can be turned on or off.

This game is highly addictive and I probably played about 10 games right away and then slowed it down a little bit to try to figure out the strategy behind it. I find myself wanting to go back to it even now as I write this – I just want to clear the board and get my special ghost prize damn-it!

We all know that Taco Bell says they’re open late at night, in some cases 24 hours, to give you….the 4th meal. I’m not a huge Taco Bell fan, in fact, the only time I like it…is when I’m drunk.

Before I left to go out last night, I saw the Taco Bell locator by Hyperfactory, LTD was available. I said, what the hell and downloaded it…hey, it was FREE, I was after all going out and didn’t really know where! Low and behold, after quite a few drinks, I HAD to have the Taco Bell. And yes, I didn’t really know where the nearest one was going to be. So, I pulled out the iPhone, hit that awesome icon and BAM, I was taken to a “find the nearest Taco Bell within x miles. I selected 1 mile at first…boo, there wasn’t one, so I selected within 5 miles…awesome, it listed 7 in the area. Once I clicked on the one I wanted to go to, it used my current location and gave me turn by turn directions on how to get there without leaving the app which I loved! All in all, for a FREE, cool Taco Bell app that might get used once in a while…it is totally worth it.

Oh yeah, if you are on a budget of any kind too, you gotta check out the Taco Bell, Why Pay More Shaker! Only have .79 +.99 and can’t decide what to get or if will break that budget? Shake it baby! It will give you a combination of things you can get on their value menu so you can eat knowing you still have some pennies left over.

Some things just won’t ever be the same and I have to continually remind myself that I can’t hate things because of it. Case in point on my iphone I have Pac Man Lite and Tetris. Two great games and I fell in love with each of them on platforms other than the iphone. Pac Man in an arcade and Tetris on the original gameboy.  These kids with their new slim suckers have no clue.

Tetris – same play, rules, etc.  Where it gets different is that you can touch the screen to rotate the block and do the auto-drop.  Which I am not a huge fan of because I want A and B and the friggin d-pad.  The screen is different because it is long and I am used to playing Tetris on a wide screen.  The other thing I am going to get picky about is that it shows you the next 3 blocks. Erika would like this though because she is a cheater.  So here is where I have to remind myself that this is Tetris on the iphone not the Gameboy.  So, take a couple days, get used to the controls and you will have your new and improved Tetris on the go with you wherever you go.  And yes, it has Tetris music and the blocks have cool colors.

Pac Man – So Pac Man is my top game of all time. period.  I got it on the iphone and I gotta say I don’t play it that much.  I think you lose a lot when it is translated to the iphone.  I want to be bellied up to the machine and JESUS CHRIST I have to have the friggin joystick.  Okay, so again, here is where I have to stop myself and say JUST TRY IT.  I did and it just makes want to drop everything I am doing and go to an arcade to play the real thing.  You can tilt or use a d-pad to move in the iphone version.  It’s cool, but it’s just not the same, and now I am going to go throw a fit. Thanks!

Guess my age! No, wait, don’t…I have an app to do that for me now! Guess My Age by Mugamma isn’t your typical Guess Your Age app. It’s interactive, a little plain on the graphics, but it works every time.

The app asks you the same question 7 times. All you have to do is say yes or no…That question is: Is there any number match your age? It then gives you a board of numbers and if you see your age, you say YES. If not, NO. You do if 7 times, the app will “magically” give you your age.

Now, this is not magic by any stretch of the imagination. It will take a couple times going through to figure out that the whole thing is based on math. The reviews of this app on iTunes will explain how basically, I don’t want to give anything away. I have mixed reviews on this app…it says what it does, and no matter what number you choose to be your age, or the age of someone else, but I think it could have been a lot more creatively designed.

For example, when you think of an age guessing game, what you think of? My first thoughts go towards a carnival with the clown dude or some schmuck in a faded suit wanting to guess you age, or even worse, your weight. I think the developers could have come up with something a little more creative, like a carnival theme or have some audio of creepy fun house music to go with it or something.

All in all, this app is just ok, it’s FREE in the app store and you will probably get a few uses out of it to impress your friends and family. Bottom line, if you need another app in your arsenal just for shits and giggles, meh, go ahead and get this one, it will entertain you for about 3 minutes. Overall rating: 2.5 stars

So, as you know I was down in the dirty south this last week, and I gotta say it’s good to be back.  I can’t even tell you how much so of these apps come into play in a different city.  Some apps that you have on your phone like Where, Taxi, and Camerabag sit in your phone and you don’t use them untill you take a lot of pictures on a plane out of boredom or find yourself trying to get oriented to a new city. Sure as shit, I ended up taking a butt load of photos on my FIVE HOUR FLIGHT TO ATLANTA and I made the colors all pretty. Yay airplanes!

I love to shop, love love love to shop. Hands down there isn’t a better time to shop than on vacation. Little did I know, I was in Atlanta during the “no tax weekend”. I live in Portland, Oregon, where everything is tax free. So, I had no idea that the malls would be full of craazzziiiieessss trying to save as little as one dollar and as much as a couple hundred dollars. Here is how it works, items between 0-100 dollars that can be classified as back to school stuff, are tax free. This includes clothes, glasses, pens, rulers, watches, and so forth. That was all fine and dandy but in the long run you are really only saving a couple bucks. But the mentality of the Atlanta shopper was hell yeah! I’m gonna use that couple bucks and hit up Wendy’s. I’m not gonna lie, I was being the negative nancy and was all “well it’s not that big of a deal wah wah wah”, but hey for them it was cool!

I was really mind boggled when I went to the Apple store to see about a problem I was having with my MacBook Pro. I started to walk into the store and was blocked by a staff member’s hand waving in my face.

A – “excuse me ma’am, where are you headed”

Me – “into the store to see a genius”

A – “not today, the genius bar is closed for no tax weekend”

Me – “der, what, why, i need help, grrr” ……. ” fine, I just need to go in and get a phone case”

A – “well ma’am that’s fine but you are going to need to get in the back of the line and wait for your turn to be escorted in by an Apple specialist”

Me – “uhhh, but it’s just a phone case”

A – “back of the line”

Hahaha, it was actually quite comical, because I then realized that computers were tax free and there was a line of about 70 people standing there out of patience and half excited like they were in line for the American Idol tryouts.  I don’t know if I told you this, but I’m lazy, so I smerked, snapped some photos, and hightailed it to the food court!

I truly love my iPhone, I really do, but there’s one thing that has bugged the living crap out of me since the app store debuted. I loathe loading new apps onto my phone. I mean I love it, because I usually download some pretty awesome apps (and some piss poor ones too for that matter), and I usually can’t wait to try them.

I thought at one point in time it was cute that the apps, (once you held down the main home button) danced and jiggled about and I could move them where ever I wanted them to go. But, after my last reset of apps, I tell ya, rearranging those little fuckers became a huge pain in my ass. I got so pissed off after adding just two of them, I had to put the phone down in the most calm way possible and walk away. I’ve said it before many times, the only thing that’s on my iPhone wish list is the ability to rearrange apps using iTunes.

Imagine my sheer delight when I found this article by Boy Genius Report. Apparently, a very reliable source gave them the tip that “iTunes 9 will finally include the ability to visually organize and arrange your iPhone and iPod touch applications”.

I really, really, really hope that the iTunes 9 update will incorporate this new feature – details are not yet available when this might happen, sometime in September is when its rumored. Believe me, you don’t wanna see this chick pissed off like that again!

I was browsing through the Apple store and came across this funky case/charger/game controller thing. It’s been out for quite a while now, but I just now stumbled upon it….

The Marware Game Grip has two silicone handle grips on the controller for those that are serious iPhone gamers. It provides a comfortable grip, has a removable battery pack (optional + sold separately), silicone skins that will fit your iPhone 3G or iPod Touch, and a cool cord management system to help organize your charging cable and headphones. It retails for around $45.00. This baby looks like something from Star Trek people…I can only imagine trying to talk on your phone with this bad boy.

The reviews of it from the Apple store are a bit of a mixed bag, some love it as it gives them the peace of mind that even more padding (of sorts) is cradled around their baby and they say it works well. Others hate this thing more than life itself it seems like. I personally don’t own one, but I can tell you there are a few people (Emily) that would totally dig this concept. Playing games on your phone, charging it at the same time, looking like a douche while talking on the phone…aahhh, gotta love our gadget fetishes!

How many times have we been driving along and see the dreaded cop car or motorcycle just sitting there on the side of the road? You immediately look at your speedometer, ease off the brakes, possibly tap them or slam them…and then finally, you look in your rearview mirror for the flashing lights of the cops. We’ve all done it, we’ve all had that feeling of dread, that release of adrenaline, that pit that drops to our stomach when we see the lights. We hope to god we aren’t going to be on an episode of Cops. Sometimes though, we’ve had that sigh of relief knowing that he’s getting the assmunch behind you and not YOU.

There’s a newly released, updated version of an app called Trapster. The app has been around since late last year, but this version seems to make up for the issues that some might have had on the older version. Trapster is basically an app that alerts you to speed traps and speed cameras in the area you are driving.

I tested it out today while I was a passenger in a car. I saw two Portland Police motorcycles sitting on the other side of the freeway and was reminded that I had this app. I whipped it out, it quickly found my current location and sure as shit, on the map, there was an icon for the police that flashed a big red blip from their location. I then saw about three other traps in the area (cameras and another grouping of cop cars) as the phone was using the GPS feature to track where I was.

The only thing I did notice it did that wigged me out was it seemed to drop my connection as I was traveling and then it dropped to say it was searching for a connection and then finally said no service. It might have been a funny section of the freeway, but I kind of doubt it, I-5 southbound in Oregon near Tualatin is a fairly populated area.

I’m not going to go into too much detail about this app, other than I can tell you to visit the Trapster site for their kick ass page of FAQ’s and to watch their demo. If you have a lead foot at all, or were always wondering where those nasty traffic cams are hiding, you need to get this app. It’s totally free and it can really save you some money in the future if you are careful. It will also save you from that pit in the stomach feeling when you unexpectedly see a cop…who knows, he may just be waiting for you…

I just had to get this out. It was burning a little hole inside me along with the laughter and I just couldn’t contain it anymore. I regularly go to this iphone forum, check out latest news, comments, etc. All the nerdy stuff you don’t want to think a slut does. Scanning though I see this title (named above) and I had to click on it. It’s a new iPhone app by Chris Alvares called Passion.

In short, this is what this app does: it measures how well you do during sex. Plain and simple right? Gives you a rating of 0-10 and then you can hop online to see how your Johnson holds up with the rest of the world. This is what killed me when I read this next part:

“Passion works by using all of the iPhone’s distinct features such as the microphone, accelerometer and many others to determine an accurate score. All you have to do is start the application, put your iPhone on the bed, in an arm band, or even in your pocket and have intercourse, it is as easy as that. Once you are finished, press the stop button and view your results.”

Wow, really? I’m guessin’ there’s gonna be some damaged phones, pissed off wives/significant others, and some pocket calls made here with this app. Seriously though, uuuhhh, hang on dear, my armband is fallin’ down, uh, I can’t see it too well, uh…oh wait, I have to pull my phone out of my pocket, set this app up and put it back in there, alright, I’m ready to go…

Ok, so if that weren’t bad enough, here were some comments left by others on this forum:

“So if I tape the iPhone to my washing machine exterior while it is running and play a porn soundtrack will I get a good score? Can I post it somewhere so I improve my pimp hand? Heeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllloooooooooooo ladies, check out my score!” ~ eawmp1

For those of you reading this that don’t live in the greater Portland, Oregon metro region, my apologies in advance for this post. My morning show co-host Robert Wagner of www.pdxsucks.com posted this wonderful rant on his blog regarding three local television stations iphone apps.

In reading this rant (and rave at times), I was in total agreement about how he felt with his reviews. Time and care were put into one, possibly two apps, but the last review he mentions, nada, zip, zilch, zero. I’m often struck by how app developers will put so much effort and thought into every detail of their app – most of them, truly works of art. Then there are others that just slap something together for the sake of making an app and jumping on the “me too” bandwagon. Pisses me off.

So, I haven’t ever really got into basketball games on any system, not sure what it is in specific but I’m just not very fond of the gameplay overall.  Don’t get me wrong I heart Fifa, Madden, ESPN Hockey, and absolutely have a love affair with Smackdown.  So, I was doodling away in the app store the other day, while I was supposed to be working.  Oh wait! This is my job!  Anyway, I saw Streetball by Battery Acid Games. It looked pretty cool so I pissed some money away and copped the joint.  From the second the startup music started on this app my eyes were reopened to the world of basketball.  When you get started you get to select a character from a slu of gangsters and crazy characters.  Hell, who doesn’t want to be a gangster, even Martha went to jail.  I selected Terrell, solely because he is a gangster in purple.  Once the game starts you have a d-pad to the left and shoot and pass buttons to the right. Before actual to play starts, take note of the cool graphics and the animated scenery.  You have a pavement court with a fence in the background covered in graphiti, between the graphiti in bold black characters you can find the game score.  If you play a two on two game,  you control your character and your teammate is on auto-pilot. One of my favorite parts is that you are playing two whities. Hahaha.  There is a light version, but in the full version you have more characters, can choose the game style, and can even play h.o.r.s.e.  Two thumbs and a couple pinkies up from Emily.

So a couple of weeks ago, I got the opportunity to do a complete reset on my iphone! How lucky for me. Yeah. I really wasn’t thrilled about having to reset it, so I put if off for a while. I made my list of applications I had on my phone at the time  and as you can guess I”m a complete app whore so there were many screens. When I was sure I had everything I needed from the settings on the phone, then I hit that dreaded Restore button. Sure as anything, about 20 minutes later, I had a naked iPhone. It made me a little sad seeing that I didn’t have any applications, that I had to go back through and reprogram everything.

It wasn’t until I started going back through putting things back on again, that I decided, screw it, I don’t even need half of these apps on my phone that were on my list. I became a little more selective. And you know what? It felt good. I was given a clean slate with my iPhone, I could put anything I wanted back on there and even some new stuff too. I found that I depleted about 1/2 of my apps because, seriously, I don’t need to have the app, 8 Glasses a Day, or some of the other novelty apps I had on my list. Like I said, I’m an app whore, I hardly ever delete anything.

Needless to say, it was really refreshing having do to a restore on the phone. I found apps that I never used just sitting there, being ignored because they were stored on the screen that I never really went to. Everything got shuffled around, I was disoriented from my apps, I had to make em jiggle and rearrange them the way I wanted them. But you know what, I found that I am in love with my iPhone all over again just by pushing that little reset button. Thanks Apple for turning a bad situation to my advantage and making it worthwhile.

Just shooting you guys a little update on my tip top and not so hot apps I have been through over the last year.

Primo

1. Zombie Attack – I heart zombies and strategy. Who would have thought that the two would come together in an iphone app? (shrugs).  The developers IUGO bring us the dopest game since Tetris. Here is how it works; You get a guy , a field, and a house and your objective is protect your house against zombies.  To do so, you use the tilt or d-pad to navigate your guy around the field and strategically place machine guns which will automatically shoot at zombies trying to attack your house.  You start with a sum of cash to buy yourself a small defense, so use this to strategically place about 4 guns.  Next, zombies start coming out of the corner of you screen.  You collect additional money with each zombie killed.  As you get  money you can add more guns or upgrade your current ones.  There are several upgrade levels which increase in monetary value. Bam, now its all out warfare. The graphics are sick, the blood is goopy and bright red, and your guys screams when the zombies try to attack him!

2. ifishing – Holy redneck Batman, thumbs up Rocking Pocket Games.  I don’t fish, I hate bugs, and sure as hell don’t want to be stuck in a boat for hours without beer.  But ifishing is a totally different story.  You can get a free version, but spend the extra couple of bucks and get the full version which gives you more lewers, more lakes, and more tournaments.  Now you can enter a tourney, select the length, and say go.  Then you are in overview mode in which you can drive your boat along the lake and look at on screen meter of what kind and size of fish are below your boat. When you find a spot you can start fishing.

To fish, you hold the screen with your thumb, whip back your phone, and throw it forward while releasing your thumb.  Once your line is in the water you can change the speed in which you reel in, the depth of your line,  and bob and sway the line by moving your phone.  When you get a fish you have to yank the phone back like you are actually hooking a fish, then you reel in at different speeds based on the big line tension meter on the right of your screen. You may catch a hugey or a dinker, but throw it back if it’s small or keep it in your bucket for weight in the tourney.  Plus there is a little dude voice that will help you out and tell you when your fishing spot is fished out and so forth. It’s totally awesome.

3. Sonic the Hedgehog – Who doesn’t oogle over Sega and the classic Sonic.  This game is pimptastically old school.   Awesome throwback to the original Sonic.  Same graphics, same play, just a little bit smaller.  Now, it’s a bit pricey, but every penny worth of ring collecting, ramping, speeding, spinning Sonic. You even get the bonus big ring at the end if you get over 50 rings.  Super simple easy to play, everyone should have this on their phone.  No joke, I have probably logged 500 hours easy! Dumpbuckets

1. Awesomeball – Perfect for if you want shit on your face and go out for a job interview.  It does nothing, crappy graphics, and the way behind the movements you make. You can check the full filthy review of that one here.

2. Impossible – This dude doesn’t have any balls or magic.  Seriously pick a color yellow, blue, or green.  Now think about it.  Now I am going to remove the color you selected. Alright, purple, orange, red. Ha!  See, your color isn’t there.  Yeah no shit because the whole lot is different idiot. jerk. time waster. stupid face booger picker – and other colorful references to this one right here…..

3. Checkers – the stupid computer always wins.  Always.  It just isn’t fun! period!

Last week Emily had a post about iPhone cases and how she was having trouble finding a good one that would fit her needs. Let’s face it, everyone has a specific need for a case, if you are into that.

Personally, I was a little anti-case – I have this great invention of a phone and wanted to show if off for the world to know….hey bitches, I have an iPhone. Plain and simple. Well, now it seems that everyone and their mother (and 8 year old kids) has an iPhone, I just didn’t feel special anymore…pout, pout. I started looking at cases, just because I felt that I needed to make some kind of statement. That combined with the fact that I started realizing how other people I knew were completely abusing their phones, well, I guess I’m compensating for them by actually wanting a new case to help protect mine a little bit.

I almost immediately found one that I fell in love with. I decided it was time to spend the $30.00 and get a case. Now being the monkey whore that I am, I just had to get the black monkey Paul Frank case and so far, it’s done the job plus puts a bit of a smile of my face every time I look at it. I actually like the feel of it when I hold it, it’s all rubber so that’s a plus, I don’t feel like I am going to drop it or have to be so very gentle when I set the phone down on my desk.

The only downside to this that I’ve noticed so far, is the pocket lint that seems to accumulate on the case itself – usually not a big deal since I can just blow it off, but meh, I think I can happily live with it for now. For $30.00, it gives me the satisfaction that I am a little more unique for having a freakin’ awesome case for my freakin’ awesome iphone.

Besides deciding whether or not to get an iphone 3gs, the toughest decision to make is what case to get for your phone.  I have the iphone 3g and the first case I bought was from at&t when I got the phone.  I got the case that covered both the front and the back of the phone with clear plastic. Now, this is where the problem lies, from what I can find, this is the only phone case that covers the whole phone. I absolutely loved it, but I finally broke it this past weekend.  Don’t get me wrong it didn’t just break, it had been abused for six months straight and finally gave in to the wrath of Emily. This is my issue, I drop my phone so frickin’ much that I really need to get a case that covers the whole phone so I don’t destroy the thing.  I know they have the film that covers the front and they recommend that for all the cases that just cover the back of the phone.  So, then I’m just screwed when I drop it and it lands on the front and dings the shit out of the screen.  No! I don’t want to ruin my baby, hell, I’ve kept her in tip top with the help of the last case I had.

My main motivation to get a different case is because I am a fashion whore and really really want a white, lime green, or royal blue phone case.  You can find these colors in every shape, form, fashion, and at any hot dog stand you choose, but they don’t protect the front of the phone.  Film, shmilm I say, I have the film for my ipod touch, which lives in my car and has no chance of being dropped.  Also, I eat like a fat cow and always have crumb parties on the perimeter of the film, which is a quick brush off, but still.  Also the film is kind of tricky to get on and if I can’t get it on perfectly straight I have a shit fit.  Plus, when you keep pulling it off and reapplying it, the film gets all bent and weird. Then you have to keep buying more film. ugh.

Ok, next, we have the water log problem.  That is the one issue I have with the case that covers the whole phone.  When you drop the phone in your dog bowl it gets water logged and you have to be speed racer to disassemble the case and remove the phone before we have a New Orleans episode all over again.  If I got a case with just the back then I wouldn’t be worried about the dog bowl and pot drops, just a simple shoulder brush off and it’s a done deal.  Here I am a week later, still hunting for the perfect case, biased from my old case, and hesitating yet itching at the bit to try a new case.

So, I’ve had some time to play around with the new 3.0 software on my 3G phone – and I have to say I’m pretty impressed. It’s the tiny things I’m noticing that really make the difference.

There are the bigger features of course, Cut, Copy and Paste, (which proved to be useful in sending an email out with a phone number I knew I wasn’t going to remember), Spotlight search (I totally freaked out when I swiped from left to right when I was on the home screen thinking I did something wrong….nope, just another cool feature), and one of my favorites, Landscape keyboard mode.

But what has really impressed me are the phone call features – after all, we are talking about a phone. I really like the fact that when I make a call and look in my recent history call log, it shows me where the call went to or came in from and if it was an incoming or outgoing call. When I select a person’s name in the call log, it shows me the times called, the date, and how long the call was for.

Our fellow slut Emily told me that she really digs the voice memo which “is great for spying on minions and grocery shopping”, plus she hearts the new graphics. She doesn’t like that you can’t copy and paste a phone number into the number section when in keypad mode. She said that she hit 3 website that have phone #’s in the text, but the numbers weren’t highlighted so she had to make them new contacts and then call them. Suck.

The last thing that would be on our wish list would be the ability to arrange iPhone apps’ icons in iTunes, then sync the arrangement to the device. That would be awesome instead of having to wait for the jiggle (and we all like a good jiggle) and move them over one at a time in between screens – kinda sucks!

All in all, I’ve really liked this update. I haven’t had any problems with it so far and I’m finding more of the little improvements that have really made my day.

Yo! So I have to make a slight correction to today’s show. About 5 minutes before the show I tried seeing if I had an update for the new iPhone 3.0 software – no dice, nothing, not a peep.

Ok, no biggs (thanks Emily – now you’ve got me saying it) – so we are going along in the show and one of our listeners – actually quite a few of you were keeping up with Apple in real time. Some were saying it was going to be later on today, others were saying it wasn’t going to be available until tomorrow…well, as we were on air, our engineer, producer extraordinaire, Robert Wagner, was downloading it as we were live. As soon as we got off air (no, not got off ON the air – that would be too much fun) we all downloaded it and started playing with it.

So far so good with the 3.0 software, no known issues for any of us here – we will keep you posted and thanks to those listeners that kept us in the loop with everything!

On Wednesdays show I was trying to explain a little bit about how the great new product announcements of the new mac computers and iPhone 3GS at the WWDC has been a bit overshadowed by the crap rollin’ around with AT&T. Basically, in a nutshell, I’ve been a loyal AT&T customer for a long time, I’m on my 2nd iPhone, and I give them a good chunk of change each and every month. AT&T is basically stating that, if you are a new customer, no problem…they will give you the iPhone plus whatever plan you want…no extra $ is really hiding behind that.

Well, good for you new peeps comin’ on over to the iPhone side, we are happy to have you. But for those of us that HAVE been loyal, faithful, and breakin’ our backs to pay said chunk of change each month, well….AT&T has something a little different in mind for us.

There is a really great article here that explains why everyone is up in arms about this whole thing and us iPhoneSlutz urge you to sign the online Twitter petition regarding AT&T’s business practices that’s available here. AT&T needs to be put in their place and treat their loyal customers with some respect. AT&T, don’t squash us ‘little guys’ – we fuckin’ put you on the map and guess what…we can take it away just as quickly.

Out of the thousands of iphone applications out there, few make me completely laugh out loud. I’m not talking about a little chuckle or girly giggle, I’m talkin’ complete belly laughin’, tears streaming down your face, laughin’ so hard you just might loose that little bit of bladder control you have left. 

The only app that has made me do this….SmackTalk! by Marcus Satellite. This is a voice altering application that makes you sound like you’ve just taken a huge hit of helium…without the side effects. Whatever you say, it repeats it in a high pitch squeaky voices and the little critters are animated and will lip-synch to what you say. It’s freakin’ hilarious! Version 1.2 had a nice upgrade to include more super cute animals such as a puppy, kitten, and a chichuahua that’s on speed. You can switch back and forth with these guys by flicking your finger left or right on the screen. 

I can’t get enough of this app and I show it to everyone…it gets them crying in about 3 seconds flat they are laughing so hard. I showed to it fellow slut Erika when her kid was in the car – they both flipped out and I’m sure that she was thanking me about 3 miles down the road…;) totally worth it.

It looks like the app is currently on sale for .99 in the app store as of this writing and will end when version 1.3 comes out which we hope is soon! Go get this app…if you are ever down in the dumps or had a bad day, or if you need to liven up the party, this will totally make it all better! One of my beautiful co-hosts, The Thrilla, Emily Gibson, of The Meat Show invited us to be her guests on her show on Monday! We’re doing a little swapper-a-roo here…We are going to be reviewing some iphone applications on The Meat Show that have to do with….you guess it smarties…meat!

I was absolutely astounded at the amount of meat applications there are out there – everything from how to cook different kinds of meat, to great juicy recipes, to making the perfect steak and the perfect burger. Both Emily and her co-host Kyle will also be talkin’ bout more meat technology and meat products, so this just seemed like an awesome fit.

Alright, show of hands…how many of you are still making your grocery shopping lists on pieces of paper? Sticky notes that you forget to take out of your pocket and then they wind up going through the laundry all shredded and gross?  Come on…bring ‘em up…that’s it…

I used to use the Notes app that the iPhone came with when doing my shopping lists, but I hated it because I couldn’t check those items of…I was going…delete, delete, delete…all the freakin’ time, it was drivin’ me crazy! I am so happy that I found this app and I wanted to share that I usually don’t ever go a day without using this app. It’s the most helpful little guy in the whole world…it’s called Shopper by Mid Century Software. It’s basically a shopping list for anything and everything you might need – all in one place. No more separate scraps of paper for different stores, no more wondering what you forgot to get off your list when you left it at home.

Shopper can create multiple lists for specific stores, organize your list to match the aisle order or layout of your favorite stores, categorize by product type (paper goods, produce, pet supplies) and it can even track your coupons and allow you to add notes and photos to you list, it will even give you freakin’ directions to the store….whew! That’s only about 1/3 of what this app can do. What I love about it is that I never have to truly delete things off my list. The items I buy frequently, paper towels, beverage material, salad stuff (that’s what I put it in as..I know what it means, damn it!) are back on my list again with one touch. Oh yeah…you can send the list to your sweetie via email so they can get the stuff on your list..;)

I can’t stress the convenience of having this app because I always have my phone with me. Available in the App store for $1.99, Shopper is one of the best things you can go grab…check out the screenshots, it’s a lifesaver of an app.

Save a twig of a tree, stop finding scraps of paper in your pocket and wonder if you really got what was on that list…go get it…what are you waiting for?

There are a lot of news applications out there and let’s face it, choosing where to get it all from without having a million news apps on your phone can be a challenge. There are tons of news apps out there, everything from NPR, to gossip and entertainment apps (which I will get to in another post), to choosing from world newspapers and BBC news. My favorite one though hands down, is the USA Today app.

It’s has the perfect amount of news and no matter what I can stay informed of what’s going on the world today in the easiest way possible. USA Today Application has headlines, scores, weather for your area (or check up on others in the country), photos (which you can share via email), and something called Snapshots which are awesome polls that you can vote on and view the responses from others in your city or state. 

Here’s a current poll question: In a typical work week, how often does your boss see you playing games? An overwhelming amount of people do actually! 58%! It’s just little things like that, that make my day when I hit my screen every morning to find out what’s going on.

I know that I can totally rely on the USA Today app, it’s never crapped out on me, super fast to launch and update, has a beautiful and easy to use interface, and the best thing….it’s FREE people! It’s become my main source of news and is a freakin’ awesome app….go get it!
