Etsy Strike Due to Outrage Over Fee Increase

Some Etsy shops are organizing a strike in regards to Etsy's latest fee hike. At first glance I didn't know what the big deal was, as the fees increased from 5 percent sales fee to 6.5 percent effective April 11--however upon further inspection I realized that is a 30% increase . The last fee hike was from 3.5 percent to 5 percent in 2018. Therefore, rates since 2018 will have almost doubled by April 2022. Sellers do also incur listing and relisting fees, optional monthly upgrades to their plan, optional advertising charges, and may face offsite ad fees if they don't opt out. The rising costs are the source of complaint for small business owners.

Well here's something. I always wanted to know how to sew, but I didn't have the time of patience to learn. Now give me a needle and thread and I'll "mend" something but full fledge sewing is out of my category. My old neighbor Sandy has been determined to teach herself, and so she got out her old sewing machine and wiped the dust off. She first started taking in seams on her mom's clothing so she could alter them for herself.

Then she started copying patterns of purses and making tote bags. Every time I stopped by the old neighborhood for coffee, Sandy had a new creations. Her latest was making a nightgown for her sister and even sewing a gift box cover. I wondered how she advanced from the "I don't know how to sew" to the "advanced class." I thought maybe youtube tutorials, but no, she's not more of a book reader. Then I figured it out, quite simply, she is reading sewing books.

Country Living

Moving to the woods (literally) from the big city, I have decided to change my whole style. Unfortunately, the modern furniture and decorations I had in my big city Baltimore 4BR house just doesn't fit or flow into a cabin in the woodsy area of Hedgesville West Virginia. So, I'm thinking of possibly looking for wildlife paintings for sale. I found this website , "The Wallington Gallery" , that offers all kinds of great wall decor. They have a whole section on animals, nature and scenery that would blend in just great. I particularly like the works of Tony Wooding, a Welsh wildlife artist who was born in '69 in St Asaph. He seems to capture the beauty in all his still works.

Energy Green 2016 Honda Civic Coupe Touring Turbo

My Energy Green Honda Civic 41MPG on highway.

Finally, a car that gets 41 MPG and is all gas, not hybrid. Honda Civic was North American's car of the year and I see why. I didn't intend on buying this car, but after due diligence I walked out with it and couldn't be happier. The look of shock on the salesman's face. I just upped his selling price by 10K. Guess he's eating steak for dinner.

This is a 2016 Energy Green Honda Civic Coupe, the gas tank is capless.

I went into the dealer yearning for and test driving a Honda Fit. Little known I found out the Honda Jazz is available in Indonesia, and I believe could be the same car as the Fit. After 25 years of driving SUV's and wanting something better in gas as my work commute has doubled. I wanted to see how I felt in a Fit as it's all gas.

Hello Honda I think I love you.

It wasn't any disrespect to Honda, but I didn't like the way the play was in the steering wheel. The Honda Fit has great mileage ratings and unlike it's former years production is more spacious and roomy. The Fit, is, what is considered a mini station wagon and I felt totally safe in it, and with four doors and a big hatch, would have fit my needs. After the salesman told me to try the CR-Z hybrid (only 2 left on the lot) I fell back in love with cars. The way they stick to the road and lack of play in steering. The dealer really wanted to push this CRZ out the door, but that was a red flag to me.

The Econ button , lower right in green helps you with best mileage on the Civic.

So, Honda, I have to ask, why would a Hybrid which charges the battery on gas then switches to all battery only get 37 MPG when the Civics are getting 41MPG on highway? Seems the Honda is redesigning the CRZ now and that's why the dealers are getting rid of the existing ones. Let's hope they find a way to design them to get MORE miles per gallon than it's gas counterparts. I wanted the Energy Green Civic but I was forced to choose between two models, the basic without Sunroof, or one with fully loaded leather seats, sunroof and Touring Edition with Turbo.

So of course I bought the one with all the goodies. Don't expect Honda to give you big discounts off, I was lucky to get $300 off without trade in. Why? They sell themselves.

Sheylla Goncalves has a great YouTube channel which shows all kinds of DIY and craft projects you can do quick and easy . (My personal faves include Washi tape and how to make a holder for a blowdryer!) Most of the videos are so easy for beginners or good ideas for the advanced craft goddess, and most are only around 15 seconds!

My favorite video - so cute and such a great idea to use Washi tape and jars to put gifts or craft supplies in!

Using her love for decorations and design, and everything related to art she began the Sheylla Goncalves DIY Youtube Channel. She explained these videos didn't become a reality until two years ago. She says, "I was working in a office that wasn't related to anything artistic, I needed something else to make me feel motivated. So I came up with the idea of video tutorials in 15 seconds. I've always liked the photo tutorials that you can find on Instagram and I used to ask myself if the things in the pictures really worked, so I decided to make videos of this pictures. The idea was to check if it was easy like in the pictures."

I was taken aback by his website which demonstrates how to actually paint malachites. This is great for the beginner or the seasoned painter, who wants to create lovely artwork that jumps off the page. Additionally it will give a new appreciation to these gemstones which are stunning in appearance.

Annie Sloan Complete Bathroom Makeover

Complete Bathroom Makeover: More Pics Coming!

Before / After - Bathroom was blue and brown and dull, now, it pops with Color!

I did a total bathroom makeover using Annie Sloan paint. The walls were done in a wash of Antibes Green. I wanted the walls to look washed out as Antibes Green is a powerful color! No prep was needed. I used about one cup mixed with 1/3 cup water on the whole bathroom walls. It went far. I did some darker, and some lighter. The bathroom had been done in a blah - sky blue gloss. Chalk paint is not gloss but it came out nicely.

Note the towel rack I did in Old White, and now hang my jewelry on it. It looks stunning with necklaces on it and I'll add a picture later. (Pic w/ stuff hanging on it Coming) I was still unsure, and I think I was missing something.

Ah yes, the bathroom cabinet. It was that dark ugly brown from when the cabinet was originally built. I wanted to antique it shabby white, but instead I decided to keep the green theme.

It looks much better in person, but it's Antibes Green, Aubusson Blue, and dark waxed. I replaced the handles with vintage knobs. If you want to know how to do this, I'll cover it in a future post. Here are some knobs I just got for the kitchen cabinets.

I added a little chalk paint distress to some of them, and covered the rusty ones with Chalk Paint.

I will also add a picture soon of the bathroom door I did with this paint, it did wonders! Thank you Annie Sloan. I just adore your paint. It cost me $34.95 a quart and I have plenty left.
