The Space Shuttle Endeavour streaks over our house followed by the recently seperated main fuel tank. Awesome sight, and moving much quicker than I expected. Glad I didn't try the telephoto ;-)

Limerick Photowalk

The annual Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk takes place this Saturday. If you are in Limerick and interested in joining other photographers on a casual stroll around the city you can find all of the details and sign up on the limerick photowalk page. There are other Irish photowalks being organised in Dublin, Cork, Galway and other locations around Ireland, you can find the photowalk closest to you using this photowalk map.

As a photowalk leader I had to provide a photo for the profile page. This is a composite of two photos, blended together in photoshop.

The Viking House

Another ashot from the Irish National Heritage Park in Co Wexford, this one is of the viking house down by the river it was pretty dark inside and I didn't have a tripod but I think it came out wellUnfortunately the main viking building with the longboat inside was sealed off.

There's probably some irony in the fact that I'm growing this plant in a wildflower patch in my garden, when my profession (tillage farmer) have almost wiped it out in its natural habitat, our crop fields.

Gardner House

As I mentioned already in my Polish Coal post, my dad worked in Suttons Coals for years. Gardner House on the South Mall in Cork used to be called Suttons House but then coal’s fortunes changed.

Oil and gas became more popular. Legislation banned any coal other than smokeless coal from urban areas and the coal industry in Ireland went into decline.

Anyway, South Mall is the “financial district” in Cork City. There are some beautiful buildings but also some damn ugly ones like Gardner House and the white building across from it.

The photowalk on Saturday is almost full! Will is going to be there too and has blogged all the photowalks countrywide. It’s going to be busy!

On the off chance it’s going to rain make sure to bring an umbrella, or at least a rain coat and if you can, a plastic bag to cover your camera. We can head into the English Market of course but there will be wanderings around the city too!

I must ring the Old Oak tomorrow and ask if they’re serving food around 4pm, failing that perhaps a restaurant. Any other suggestions?
