Clematis is a cure for unsightly cement walls in the garden!

Are you sick of looking at unpainted cement walls in your garden? This year we have planted 2 types of clematis plants behind a long (dull and grey!) wall:

Clematis Montana Tetrarose (Flowers late spring early Summer)

Clematis Lincoln Star (Flowers Early to late summer)

Our plan and hope is that the Clematis will grow over the wall and within a short few years the walls will be hidden forever with an abundance of beautiful flowers. It’s great as we have only planted them recently and they have already started coming over the wall!

My Clematis Growing Tip: With Clematis plants you need to water well and regularly in the first year after planting. The best type of soil for clematis plants should be good, well drained but also nicely moist.

The Carrots have arrived!

Excited to see my carrots peeping through. This is the second time round as the first planting of the carrots this year were practically driven into the ground with the heavy rains – bet someone in Australia is enjoying an unexpected crop of carrots! A word of advice: wait for good and warm weather conditions. I learned planting early this year was a waste of time.

Now that my carrots are finally coming up here are some planting and growing tips that might be of use:

Deter carrot root fly by netting or covering – you can buy netting in any garden shop and will cost you between €5 and €20 depending on how much you need.

Sow in good loamy soil – loamy soil is rich soil consisting of a mixture of sand, clay, and decaying organic material

Thin seedlings to about 5cm (2 inches) apart
