I found out today through my Hampton Roads Chihuahua Meetup that there are 25 Chihuahua’s that need foster homes. They were rescued from a hoarder situation in the western part of Virginia.

Currently, all of the dogs are in isolation and cannot be put up for adoption or out for the public just yet.  They have been caged all their life and need human contact, training and socialization.

I need your help to find people that are interested in fostering and socializing the Chihuahua’s.

How To Help

There is a meeting scheduled at the Virginia Beach SPCA on Friday, May 24th at 6pm to discuss what these dogs will need. They are located at 3040 Holland Road in Virginia Beach, VA 23453. Check out the info on their animal foster program here.

You can also contact Barbara Gipson if you can help or would like more information on helping to foster a dog. She is always at the shelter walking around working and very seldom gets to her email. So, she said the best way to contact her is to text or call 757-478-0532.

Hola amigos! Thank goodness for an upcoming 3 day weekend so I can catch up on some rest and relaxation from BlogPaws!

I have two patriotic DIY pet treats that are simple to make and your pets will LOVE them!

Don’t forget to remember all those that have allowed us our freedoms to celebrate and BBQ this weekend in the USA.

Note – Always ensure your pet is not allergic before introducing any new food into their diet. If unsure, call your vet.

DIY Frozen Star Treats

Tools You Need

• Star Shaped Ice Cube Trays
• Blender
• Cake Decorating Tip (to help pour)

Ingredients You Need

• 1 Cup Water
• 8 Strawberries
• 1/4 cup Blueberries

*I made 16 ice-cubes and how lots of liquid left over for the Patriotic PUPsicles I created. You may want to use more or less depending on how many you plan on making!*

Time Required

• 15 minutes + Freeze Time

Instructions

1. Rinse strawberries and blueberries. Set aside.

2. Cut stems off of strawberries

3. Mix 1/2 cup water and all 8 strawberries in the blender. Blend until liquefied. Repeat with Blueberries. (Mixing 1/4 cup Blueberries with 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of water).

4. Pour berry/water mixture into ice cube trays using a cake decorating tip to help prevent any leaks. View my DIY Frozen Luau Dog Treats to see this technique. Repeat with the blueberry mixture.

5. Freeze for 2-4 hours or overnight.

6. Once they are frozen, pop them out and serve 1-2 cubes to your Irresistible Pet! You can put the remaining cubes into a plastic container and store them in the freezer.

DIY Patriotic PUPsicles

Tools You Need

• Star Shaped Ice Pop Mold
• Blender
• Cake Decorating Tip (to help pour)

Ingredients You Need

• 1 Cup Water
• 1/2 Cup Non-Fat Plain Yogurt
• 8 Strawberries
• 1/4 cup Blueberries

Time Required

• 15 – 30 minutes + Freeze Time

Instructions

1. Rinse strawberries and blueberries. Set aside.

2. Cut stems off of strawberries.

3. Mix 1/2 cup water and all 8 strawberries in the blender. Blend until liquefied. Repeat with Blueberries. (Mixing 1/4 cup Blueberries with 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of water).

4. Pour Strawberry mixture into the popsicle mold first.

5. Layer the plain yogurt on top of the strawberry, if you want a swirl effect like the ones I created. If you want them layered, freeze each layer first for about 15-30 minutes.

6. Layer the Blueberry mixture on top of the yogurt.

7. Insert the popsicle sticks.

8. Freeze overnight.

Note – It may go without saying that these treats are not to be given to your dogs without supervision because of the sticks. You can hold the treat while they eat it. Be sure that they do not eat the stick!

Well friends, I’m finally recovered from my BlogPaws hangover and I’m getting back in the swing of things! Time to connect with all the new friends I made, organize my handouts, and put my notes into actionable to-do lists! This is the year that Irresistible Pets is going to become even more IRRESISTIBLE!

This was my first year attending BlogPaws (a conference for pet bloggers) and well my first blog conference ever! It was an awesome experience. I learned a lot, met great people, and petted some “irresistible” pets.

Here are five things that make BlogPaws irresistible . . .

1. The Pets!

What’s a pet blogger conference without the Irresistible Pets!? It was so cool to see so many bloggers bring along their dog, cat, ferret, or rabbit! You know you’re at a pet conference when you can hear meow’s and barks during a workshop! I love it!

2. I Got to Bring Chuy . . . Everywhere!

Bringing your pet along can be a great ice-breaker when networking with other bloggers and brands. On the flipside, it can make an already stressful/busy weekend even more stressful. BUT, I’d say it was totally worth bringing little Chuy along! The little guy did pretty good but was DONE by the time we got back to our room!  I have to say it was pretty cool that some people recognized him from my blog!

3. The BlogPaws SWAG Bag

Everyone loves swag. Each attendee gets a huge bag packed full of goodies such as toys, treats, food, doggie pads, floor cleaner, and more! We can’t wait to try everything out!

4. Meeting New People (Or Recognizing Familiar Faces!)

People go to blogger conferences to network and meet people. I left with tons of business cards and new contacts. Being an introvert, this isn’t always the easiest thing for me but you have to step out of your comfort zone. It’s so cool when you recognize someone in person after you’ve been following their blog! I got to finally meet Kimberly from Keep the Tail Wagging and Caren from Cat Chat and Dakota’s Den.

Looking at my pics (or lack of) made me realize that I didn’t take as many as I should’ve. Sad Face. It also made me realize I really need a better quality camera too!

5. The Workshops

There are several workshops each day and you can pick the ones that you would like to attend. I wasn’t sure if I’d actually learn anything I hadn’t heard before but I did. I walked away inspired and ready to take my blog to the next level.

I can’t believe Blog Paws  is tomorrow! This is my first blogger conference and I’m so excited! We still have lots to pack but I feel ready! Does that make sense? lol

Since this is the first time I’m meeting some of my online blog friends for the first time, I thought I’d do the opposite of Wordless Wednesday today and tell you 10 things you might not know about me . I tend to talk about everything Chuy so I thought I’d let you get to know me a little bit better!

1. My “real” name is Aimee spelled the French way with two E’s but I’m not French! It’s a huge pet peeve of mine when people misspell my name even when I spell it out for them! My name is NOT Amy! When I first started blogging I went by my nickname of Mimi for privacy reasons. I will answer to both and some people in the blogging world know me as Aimee and others as Mimi.

2. In addition to Irresistible Pets, I also blog over at Irresistible Icing where I talk about my weight loss journey and other “irresistible” things I like. That was my first blog that I started and I was inspired to start a second one once I got Chuy so I could share my love of pets!

3. I used to be a travel agent 10 years ago . . .OMG where did that time go?! After that I worked in the travel industry from 2003 – 2010 designing internal communications and then moved into training and certifying other travel agents.

4. I work full-time at my “real job” from home as an Instructional Designer, designing training materials for health insurance. Although, my dream is to become a full-time blogger!

5. My adult drink of choice is always Bacardi and Diet Coke. You won’t catch me drinking anything else at the bar! Ok, maybe the occasional Margarita!

6. My favorite color is purple! Like you can’t tell that from looking at my blog design?! LOL. Purple was even one of the main colors in my wedding!

7.  I had a Masquerade theme wedding the night before Halloween. It was awesome! If I could relive that night over and over again, I would!

8. Chuy is the first dog I ever owned. As a kid we had all kinds of pets! From horses, rabbits, cats, cockatiels, parakeets, finches, love birds, fish, and the occasional turtle I would find outside and keep for a week or two.

This was Chuy as a puppy, the first week we brought him home!

9. I am not the adventurous type and I wish I was. So I agreed to go hot air ballooning in January and we crash landed . . . there goes my adventurous streak forever! lol

10. I once traveled to Dubai all by myself to meet up with my husband who was deployed at the time. It was scary, exciting, romantic, and one of the best things I’ve ever done! Riding a camel was the highlight of my vacation!

Aimee + Chuy

One of the great things about owning a dog is how it gives you the opportunity to meet people you may not have known otherwise. Dogs are also a great ice-breaker, especially if you are introverted like I am! We joined a local Chihuahua Meetup when we got Chuy and it’s been awesome to meet other little Chihuahua’s and their owners. If you don’t already attend one, google and see what local meetups exist in your area. If there aren’t any, create one yourself! It’s sooo good for your dog’s socialization skills.

I’ve been slacking on uploading all my pics lately but I’m getting them done this week! I need to have a clear memory card for Blog Paws next weekend! Please let me know if you are attending so we can say hi!

Here are some of my pics from our April 4th Meetup at Muddy Paws in Norfolk, VA. These meetups let me hang out with my Mom more because my Mom and her Chorkie, Mimi have joined our group too! This was Mimi’s first meetup so I think she was a little overwhelmed and Chuy . .. well, he was just acting like a snob and not wanting to socialize!
