Breaks are available from 2nd April up to the 15th April 2010 with prices starting from £199 per family for a 3 night break and 7 night break prices starting from £329.

Breaks are available from 2nd April up to the 15th April 2010 with prices starting from £199 per family for a 3 night break and 7 night break prices starting from £329.

Park visitors will be able to participate in a wide range of activities over the Easter holiday period. These include free kids’ clubs, daytime and evening entertainment for both children and adults, plus a host of Easter games that can be enjoyed by all. There will also be a variety of coached sports sessions such as archery and tennis.

In addition, each of Haven's 35 locations provide both heated indoor and outdoor pools, a variety of bars, shops and restaurants to cater for everyone as well as plenty of family friendly activities such as golf, fishing and football. They also offer the opportunity to explore some of the most beautiful seaside and countryside locations across England, Scotland and Wales.

All of the group’s sites are to benefit from £40 million of investment, with upgrades due to be implemented throughout the 2010 season. These include improvements to existing pool facilities, kids’ play areas and tennis / sports courts. An integral part of the development plans include new Space Bowls Flumes at several sites, including Combe Haven and Marton Mere. More recently, 14 parks have introduced Mash & Barrel Lounge-Bar-Cafes and complex amendments to the eating facilities on remaining sites are due to follow in the near future.

A spokesperson for the company commented on the activities that are going to be held over the Easter period by saying: "We've included lots of extra Easter activities for the kids - but haven't forgotten about the grownups either. Daytime activities include special themed sessions to make Easter bunny finger puppets, Easter bunny masks and Easter bonnets. There will be Easter egg hunts and all sorts of other games and competitions to keep the kids amused."

Approximately 2.4 million visitors stay at a Haven park each year and with more families deciding to have a break closer to home, the group have anticipated that 2010 will attract a record number of guests. Haven was awarded the title of Best UK Domestic Tour Operator and Best Camping and Mobile Tour Operator 2009 in the British Travel Awards Travel Trade Gazette. Aside from this, each of the 35 parks holds Conversation Awards.

TV personality and historian Neil Oliver made sure he towed the line as he opened The Scottish Caravan & Outdoor Leisure Show.

The Coast presenter was in town to remind Scottish holidaymakers that the best destinations are right on their doorstep.

Organisers of the show at the SECC predicted a bumper attendance as millions of cash-strapped people plan to go on so-called “staycations” this year.

Oliver, a fully signed up member of the Caravan Club, said: “Scotland has beaches that can contend with some of the world’s top holiday spots. Why travel abroad when you have some extremely beautiful sandy beaches, right here on your door step?

“A staycation can offer low-cost holidaying and caravanning is the best way to explore the great outdoors.”

Caravan holidays are becoming ever more popular as recession-hit families face up to their empty wallets.

Robert Louden, of the Camping and Caravanning Club, said: “We recruited 65,000 members last year – a 25% increase on 2008 – and were able to provide a memorable experience for both members and non-members alike.

“We are therefore optimistic that both campers and caravanners will be looking to repeat that experience in 2010.”

The Caravan Club represents a million members who injected more than £400 million into the rural economy in 2009.

Tourism chiefs have their eyes on the massive spending potential.

Philip Riddle, VisitScotland chief executive said: “Tourism is critical to the future of Scotland’s economy and this is the perfect time to make the most of the natural beauty and scenery on many of our own doorsteps.”

New van offers a wheel deal for Motorcyclists

MOTORCYCLISTS who want to tour the country but also enjoy the comforts of caravaning are turning to an innovative van built in Queensland.

The Airflow Caravan has a rear wall that opens and forms an annexe with a ramp allowing access for wheelchairs, bicycles or even motorcycles.

Designer Justin Clarke, an engineer who owns JPC Engineering, Cabarlah, north of Toowoomba, said they had received several inquiries from people wishing to travel with motorbikes, mainly Harley-Davidsons.
"We have had a man wishing to store and transport a vintage Jeep, and another prominent line of inquiry has come from people with disabilities, requiring transport for wheelchairs and mobility equipment," he said.
"Because the caravan can be custom built, it suits a broad range of sporting equipment and is also ideal for a family van with built-in bunks and the rear tent section converting to a bedroom/additional living space."
Retired coalminer Nick Feros plans to travel around Australia in a caravan next year and wants to take his Harley-Davidson motorcycle along.

In the past he has not been able to travel as much as he would like, as he could not transport and store the motorbike satisfactorily.

Airflow Caravans has been able to offer him a solution with its adjustable airbag suspension, which raises and lowers the caravan by remote control from 270mm to 650mm.

This allows Feros to ride his heavy Harley directly into the van and secure it in place for travel.
He can also leave it there when he goes off-road camping with his 4WD and tent.

Feros is fine-tuning the design and specifications of his custom-built Airflow Caravan and hopes to head off on his trip in the first half of next year.

Clarke says the caravan can be lowered for ease of access, raised to help negotiate obstacles or matched to the tow vehicle ground clearance to improve under-body aerodynamics and create a lower centre of gravity for road-holding stability.

Discounting childhood holidays spent in a 1970s Anglo caravan (or rather, under a damp awning on a devilishly uncomfortable camp stretcher), my initiation into camping was in England's Lake District.

It rained. The equipment was borrowed, and included a saggy ridge tent that leaked like mad and lacked midge-mesh.

My new beau and I found ourselves trapped under canvas for days on end. Perhaps it was the serenade of raindrops, or simply strength shared in adversity, but romance blossomed: we fell in love with camping.

By the time we embarked on a four- month camping trip across the US in 1999, we were getting pretty handy with the mallet and the zip-together sleeping bags.

Our trusty two-person tent - which survives to this day - sheltered us nearly 100 nights in a row. It was pawed by bears, sprayed by a skunk, and held up to Death Valley winds that flattened its arc to within an inch of our noses. We emerged hardy and utterly hooked, but little did we know the best of our camping was yet to come.

Home in New Zealand, we discovered camping heaven. There are more than 800 vehicle-accessible campsites throughout the country, many of which lie on wild shores, in grand mountain valleys, and down gravel roads leading to the middle of nowhere.

Our family-focused holiday parks are also outstanding, offering facilities above and beyond the kitchen sink while still maintaining an air of back-to-nature simplicity. It's still the great outdoors, but with a toaster and a fridge to keep the beer cold.

Last summer, we embarked on a 20,000-kilometre road trip to research Let's Go Camping, a guide to the best campsites in New Zealand.

Most of our travels were during the Christmas holidays - a period we usually avoid in the interests of sanity. It was, though, a rewarding and uplifting time to explore, not least because we encountered a bonanza of happy humanity. There's more than a little magic within the commune of the Kiwi campground.
