MInTheGap: This outfit certainly has everything covered, even the neck! I don’t think that the long hair, or even the makeup make this immodest. The line on the jeans are different and do attract attention, though.

Is This Modest?

MInTheGap: Everything’s covered. Nice pattern, not too tight. But this outfit isn’t exactly feminine with some caveats– the sleeve cuffs are different from a man’s and two breast pockets are not really in style for men. However, I don’t have a particular problem here.

Foy: Take the pockets out – they’re different from the rest of the pattern, which attracts some attention. But that’s minor  - this outfit is for me a four.

Is This Modest?

MInTheGap: Her hair covers where straps would be (spaghetti), but I’m guessing that this is strapless. The dress does come up fairly high, covering anything there that would be seen. The length is a big question here, however. It’s a good inch or two above the knee. That length is neither modest or practical.

Foy: The top portion of the dress has both good and bad parts. I really like the fact that there isn’t an outline to the bust. That makes it less distracting. But, because it is strapless (or so it appears), there is more stress on the fabric around the bust, making the dress tighter up top. If this had straps, and was a bit lower, it would be great.

Spammers are pretty inventive people.  You can run multiple types of spam protection, and still have spam show up.

Recently on this blog we have been getting spam of a different type, and I want to make you aware of the spam and what steps we’ve taken in case we’ve inadvertently deleted a legitimate comment.

Within the past two days, we’ve seen an uptick of blog comments using names of regular commenters on this blog, but not using the same e-mail address or website URL that was used in the past.  In some circumstances, the comment has been out of context, but some have looked legitimate.

If you have commented here in the past couple of days and do not see your comment posted, let me know via a comment here or using the comment form.

As a rule of thumb, if a comment appears to be from a regular commenter but has an e-mail address we do not recognize or links to a suspect site we will consider it spam unless you tell us otherwise.

I’m sorry for this post and announcement, and I hope legitimate comments have not been deleted or can be replaced.

Is This Modest?

MInTheGap: The dress line ends right above the knee– with the fringe covering the knee. The top would be showing too much if it weren’t for the sash (I believe there are spaghetti straps?) The weird thing is the middle of this dress, almost like she doesn’t have a waist. that definitely draws attention to her bust.

Foy: The fringe at the bottom of her dress is definitely distracting – it makes the mind wonder if you’re seeing an undergarment of a sort.

The top also seems way too low.

MInTheGap: It’s a nice jacket and slacks combination, but I’m not sure what that pose says. I mean, the pose and the fact that one part of his spiky hair is sticking straight up distracts me. I’d prefer one of the other shots he has where he’s standing up.

Foy: I’m not a girl, so I have a hard time judging male modesty. But I’d wonder about the open shirt near the top. Other than that and the hair, it seems fine.

Last week, Is This Modest featured a man Quick Review.  Up until this point, we hadn’t done many male quick reviews simply because, for the most part, they were mostly modest.  Indeed, it was hard to find something that wasn’t modest.

It wasn’t until we launched this photo (click to go to the original QR) that, I believe, we’re now able to illustrate something that we’ve tried to help the women readers of this site see for a while.

You see, one of the things that has been recurring on the Quick Reviews is the idea that Foy or I can pretty much find something to comment about for every photograph of a woman—Foy especially.

It got to the point where some ladies were questioning whether they could ever meet the standards of what we were saying, or whether they should even pay attention to us because we seemed to be too far out there.

But the comments on Man in Sweats illustrate that it’s not just something men are prone to do.

Some women, when discussing this picture or sweats in general, believed that sweats should be something men should avoid (my mom would be one of these).  Some believed that men should avoid tight material (like spandex), some said it was “eww” rather than something attractive, and some were convinced that it was no big deal.

And that’s exactly what we’re trying to show you.  To some, the layers that draw attention to a ladies chest are no big deal, but to some it’s something that gets them “hot and bothered”.  To those of you that say “eww”, I would suggest that this may also be a form of sexual response—for a guy may look at cleavage and say “eww”, but he still looked and it was still immodest.

So, next time you see us make a comment on a QR that you may not agree with, remember Man in Sweats and take away the idea that, though it may mean that sweats are not forbidden, different people are wired differently and it’s important to acknowledge and adjust for it!

MInTheGap: This is an interesting outfit. I would guess that it’s one piece on top rather than multiple layers, but it gives the same effect. I think that the neck line is a little low, but the pants seem fine.

Foy: All the shorts/skirts are a bit too short. Also, It’s never a good idea to have shirts overlap shorts, as done in this fashion. It gives the illusion that your not wearing anything below the waist.
