iServe Medical Mission Served Residents of Brgy. Coline, Alimodian, Iloilo

Another medical mission was coordinated by iServe last November 5, 2011. This was held in Brgy. Coline, Alimodian, Iloilo. Included in the free services rendered were tooth extraction, circumcision, haircut, massage and distribution of vitamins for a particular number of adult residents. The medical and dental teams of the 301st Brigade of the Philippine Army were on hand to provide the much needed assistance for the dental services while the 82nd Infantry Battalion had their men do the haircut and massage services for the people of Brgy. Coline. Co-sponsor for the event was Mr. Leo Martinez, a volunteer and at the same time a resident of the barangay. Other volunteers were also on hand to assist in the various tasks.

ISERVE Joins SRDC Medical Mission

ISERVE joined another Medical Mission last Saturday, September 11, 2011 at the Providence - Iloilo Tent. Free services offered to more than 300 beneficiaries were the medical consultation, tooth extraction, haircut and massage. The activity's success was due to the active partnership of various organizations/institutions like the Philippine Army (301st Brigade, 82nd Infantry Batallion, 604th CDC RCDG (ILO) ARESCOM and the 3rd Infantry Division), Creative Communities Foundation and the St. Rafael Development Corp.

One of the thrusts of Balik Mater 2011 is to give something back to the community which nurtured and gave meaning to the lives of the Carmelians. In order to do that, MCHS Class '86 in partnership with ISERVE and the Philippines National Red Cross, sponsored a Blood Donation Activity last May.

Libreng Tawag: A SMART Answer to Superferry 9's Fate

September 6 was a day etched on the minds of the survivors of the Superferry 9 incident. The ship owned by the Aboitiz Transport System Corp. sank off the south-west coast of Zamboanga Peninsula. It was bound for Iloilo City. The port of origin was Gen. Santos City. On board were 971 passengers and crew.

SMART Communications had its Libreng Tawag Booth to provide family and friends of the erstwhile passengers to contact their kin. The booth was manned by employees of SMART together with the help of volunteers from ISERVE.

1st Young Writers Conference

One hundred forty nine youth writers and school paper advisers participated in the 1st Young Writers Conference with the theme: "Tinig Ko, Ipapaabot Ko" (Creating a Social Impact through Campus Journalism). It was held last June 27-28, 2009 at the 5th flr. Conference Room of the Iloilo Provincial Capitol Bldg. Media practitioners were invited to serve as resource persons.

Pulong sa Katin-aran is a weekly radio program sponsored by ICON, CBMA, ASIN and Halad Media. This is aired every Sunday at DYSI 9:30-11:30 pm. May 10 was the is iSERVE's turn to be featured. Mazel Mary Jeongco, iSERVE president and Florivhielle Tondo, iSERVE secretary joined the host Rev. Edwin Lariza, in order to inform the public about the programs and services of the organization.

Happy Mother's Day from iSERVE!

iSERVE celebrated Mother's Day in a different way. iSERVE volunteers joined the event organized by the Robinson's Place which was meant to pamper and look out for the health of the Moms in Iloilo. Services such as facials, manicure, pedicure, massage, blood tests and a dance production were conducted to celebrate the day. For the iSERVE team, volunteer nurses gave free blood pressure check-up while the other volunteers helped out in the registration and assisted in checking the weight of those who were interested.

Btac. Viejo, Iloilo Medical Mission: Day 3

Brgy. Sto. Domingo was the venue of the third day of the medical mission in Btac. Viejo. The activity was conducted in the afternoon only due to a scheduled boxing event. Despite the shorter period of time, a sizable number of patients were still able to avail of the services as follows:

Circumcision 23 patients
Tooth Extraction 68 patients
Medical Consultation 103 patients

Brgy. Captain Silsu Barrido gave the team a very warm welcome.

The team also greatly appreciate the efforts of the municipality's LGU headed by Mayor Raul "Boboy" Tupas, the municipal administrator Harry Tupas, Marilyn Bañas of the mayor's office, Engr. Bing Tupas and Maj. Arleen Tupas and family for serving as host.

Btac. Viejo, Iloilo Medical Mission: Day 2

Day 2 of the medical mission in Btac. Viejo was even busier than the first one. There were more patients. Though the venue was Brgy. San Juan, three baranggays actually benefited from this activity. These are Brgys. Puerto Princesa, San Francisco and, of course, San Juan.

The same services were offered together with the massage and haircut. The latter two services were courtesy of the 47th IB who came all the way from Cp. Carreon, Brgy. Libot, Calinog, Iloilo.

For the 2nd day, the following number of beneficiaries/patients were served:

Circumcision 67 patients
Tooth Extraction 124 patients
Medical Consultation 413 patients
Haircut 36 beneficiaries
Massage 15 beneficiaries

The host baranggay, led by its Brgy. Capt. Joey Baldilovar and the brgy. officials, warmly welcomed all of those who took part in the activity.

Btac. Viejo, Iloilo Medical Mission: Day 1

The iSERVE group left Iloilo City very early in the morning last May 1, 2009. The destination? The municipality of Barotac Viejo, Iloilo. This is not the first time that the volunteers worked on such project in that town. Last February, another group was also there.

Day 1 of the Medical Mission was held in Nueva Sevilla, one of the coastal baranggays in the town. The activity started with a program. Brgy. Captain Teddy A. Matulac welcomed the medical and dental personnel from the 301st Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army led by Maj. Arleen D. Tupas, the Dental Officer, Dr. Cheryl Lim- Alagban, the IBde's civilian doctor and the volunteers from iSERVE. Mayor Boboy Tupas was also there to personally oversee the activity.

In Brgy. Nueva Sevilla, approximately one hundred fifty patients availed of the free medical consultation with medicine. Thirty three boys were circumcised and sixty eight individuals had their teeth extracted.

Those involved in this three days of free services are the following: the Local Government Unit of the Municipality of Btac. Viejo, the Brgy. Councils, iSERVE, the Philippine Army ( 301st IBde and 47th IB, 3ID), DAWN and the local Police Unit.

Welcome to our new home!

Yes, iSERVE has an office now and it is located at the 2nd Flr. of the New OK Bldg. in E. Lopez St., Jaro, Iloilo City. The dedication/blessing will be on May 23, 2009. Officers and members will take turn manning the office. This will also be the venue for some workshops and academic enhancement classes of the organization.

The office will be shared by VOICE Iloilo Cluster.
