Eid al-Adha, or Eid ul-Adha, is a major Muslim holiday to mark the end of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
Eid al-Adha is marked by festivals, prayers, gifts and animal sacrifices.
Muslims traditionally celebrate Eid al-Adha by sacrificing animals and sharing the meat with the poor.

Eid al Adha is the biggest religious festival of the Muslim community. Eid al Adha is also called the festival of sacrifice. In the history of this day, Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) went to sacrifice his son Prophet Ismael (Ismail) in order to keep his word to Allah (swt). Since that time, Muslims celebrate this day as both a tradition and a duty to Allah(swt). This festival lasts four or more days, depending on the country in which it is celebrated.

It marks the end of the annual pilgrimage (Hajj) of muslims all over the world to the holy city (Mecca of Saudi Arabia). In Islam, it is considered one of the main duties for those who have the physical and financial ability to do this. The Eid al Adha is celebrated 2 months and 10 days after the first Eid, Eid al fitr. Eid al adha in 2009 is Today Friday,November 27,2009.

The Importance of The Shahada In Islam

Shahada is the foundation of the Islamic religion, since it proclaims the very essence of Islam; that there´s only one God and that Allah's(swwt) prophet is Muhammad Allah(swt) final messenger.(phub)

Declaring the shahada, or testimony, is all one needs to enter Islam. It is the most important of all the five pillars of Islam. This little phrase is what separates Muslims from everyone else. Because those who state this phrase have declared their acknowledgement of Allah’s monotheism and Prophet Muhammad’s status.

A person can convert to Islam by stating the Shahada with conviction.

The Meaning of the Shahada

The word shahada actually means to testify or to bear witness. There are actually two parts to the shahada which when taken together is often called the Shahadatayn, meaning “two testimonies.” The full shahadatayn requires a statement testifying to Allah’s monotheistic qualities and another statement testifying that Prophet Mohammad is the messenger of Allah.

Here are both parts of the shahada in English and Arabic.

Duties and Rights of Husband and Wife After Marriage

Allah informs us about the just rights of each other on us:

"But, in accordance with justice, the wife's rights (with regard to their husbands) are equal to the (husband's) rights with regard to them, although men are a degree above them; and Allah is Almighty, Wise." (Qur'an, Al Baqarah : 228)

The statement that men are a degree above women means that authority within the household has been give to the husband in preference to the wife because a heavier burden has been placed on his shoulders by another verse of the Quran which says:

"Men shall take full care of women, because Allah has given the one more strength than the other, and because they support them with their means." (Qur'an, An Nisaa : 34)

ADVICES TO HUSBANDS:

Jabir narrated that the Prophet, peace be upon him, gave these instructions in his sermon during Farewell Pilgrimage: "Fear God regarding women; for you have taken them [in marriage] with the trust of God." [Mishkat]

Narrated Aisha, God's messenger said: "Among the believers who show most perfect faith are those who have the best disposition, and are kindest to their families." [Tirmidhi]

Narrated Abu Huraira, God's messenger said: "The believers who show the most perfect faith are those who have the best disposition and the best of you are those who are best to their wives." [Tirmidhi]

Aisha has related that the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him, would enter the house with a pleasing disposition and a smile on his lips. [Uswa-i-Hasana]

Narrated Al-Aswad: "I asked Aisha, `What did the Prophet, peace be upon him, do at home?' She said, `He used to work for his family and when he heard the call for the prayer, he would go out.'" [Bukhari]

Narrated Abu Huraira: "Allah's Apostle, peace be upon him, said, `The woman is like a rib; if you try to straighten her, she will break. So if you want to get benefit from her, do so while she still has some bent.'" [Bukhari]

Narrated Abu Huraira: "The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, `Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should not hurt (trouble) his neighbour. And I advise you to take care of women, for they are created from a rib and the most crooked portion of the rib is its upper part; if you try to straighten it, it will break, and if you leave it, it will remain crooked, so I urge you to take care of women. [Bukhari]

Narrated Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As: "Allah's Apostle, peace be upon him, said, `O Abdullah! Have I not been informed that you fast all the day and stand in prayer all night?' I said, `Yes, O Allah's Apostle!' He said, `Do not do that! Observe the fast sometimes and also leave them at other times; stand up for the prayer at night and also sleep at night. Your body has a right over you and your wife has a right over you too.'" [Bukhari]

Narrated Ibn Umar: "The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, `All of you are guardians and are responsible for your wards. The ruler is a guardian and the man is a guardian of his family; the lady is a guardian who is responsible for her husband's house and his offsprings; and so all of you are guardians and are responsible for your wards."

Men should forbear any shortcomings of women in view of the following verse of Quran:

"Live with them in kindness; even if you dislike them, perhaps you dislike something in which God has place much good." (Qur'an, An Nisaa : 19)

ADVICES TO WIVES

Anas reported God's messenger as saying, "When a woman observes the five times of prayer, fasts during Ramadan, preserves her chastity and obeys her husband, she may enter by any of the gates of paradise she wishes (in other words nothing will prevent her from entering paradise)." [Mishkat]

Ummu Salama reported God's messenger as saying, "Any woman who dies when her husband is pleased with her will enter Paradise." [Tirmidhi]

Abu Huraira told that when God's messenger was asked which woman was best, he replied, "The one who fills [her husband] with joy when he sees her, obeys him when he directs and does not oppose him by displeasing him regarding her person or property." [Mishkat]

PROVIDING FOR WIFE AND FAMILY

Quran teaches us to be reasonable and fair to our wives and families.

House women wherever you reside, according to your circumstances, and do not harass them in order to make life difficult for them. (Qur'an, At Talaq : 6)

The statement of Allah in the chapter `Woman':

"Men are protectors and maintainers of women." (Qur'an, An Nisaa : 34)

Bukhari quotes the following verse under the heading: .. the superiority of providing for one's family:

(O Mohammed!) They ask you what they ought to spend. Say: That which is beyond your needs. Thus Allah make clear to you His Signs in order that you may give thought (to it) in this worldly life and the Hereafter." (Qur'an, Al Baqarah : 219-22)

Narrated Abu Masud Al-Ansari: "The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, `When a Muslim spends something on his family intending to receive Allah's reward, it is regarded as Sadqa (spending in the name of God) for him."

We should always remember that Allah is the one who gives us, we are just the mere trustees of the funds.

Narrated Abu Huraira: "Allah's Apostle, peace be upon him, said, `Allah said, O the son of Adam! Spend, and I shall spend on you.'"

Narrated Abu Huraira: "Allah's Apostle, peace be upon him, said, `The best alms is that which you give when you are rich, and you should support your dependants first.'" [Bukhari]

Abu Huraira reported God's messenger, peace be upon him, as saying: "Of the dinar (unit of currency) that you spend as a contribution in God's path, or to set free a slave, or as charity given to a needy, or to support your family, the one yielding the greatest reward is that which you spent on your family. [Muslim]

Duties of Men in Islam

In America, we can see many (muslim) men involved in drinking and carousing, refusing to get married, refusing to work, or if they do work, spending their money on silly and useless things like fancy cars, stereos, expensive clothes and whatnot. Meanwhile, there are women, young and old, fending for themselves. Sisters who are destroying their health because they have to raise and support children with no husband in sight.

Really, we must ask ourselves, what good does it do for us to talk about making jihad against the Disbelievers when we are not taking care of our families and our own communities in the way of Allah?

In the event that a Muslim sister is lacking the maintenance which the Quran demands for her and her children: to be given food, clothing and shelter, protection from harassment or crime, this is the responsibility of the entire community. We as Muslims must strive, in accordance with what Allah has given us, to make the world such a place that it will be safe for children to be born, where mothers and fathers will not grieve, but rejoice every time Allah grants them a little baby into their care out of his Mercy. It is important that we start the jihad for the establishment of Islam in our society within our families. If we cannot practice the Sunnah of love, respect and helpfulness in our own homes, of what use will it be if we proclaim the Sharia throughout the land? How are we going to heal our society? There is only one way.

We can only do it by raising children who are willing to uphold Islam in their hearts and their actions. The son, especially, should be taught very early to respect his mothers and sisters and to defend their honor at any cost. To always speak well of them, and to help them with whatever they need, to the best of his ability. This kind of education will help him to know how to behave with his wife, who will be his permanent companion when he grows up. We can see in the Hadith how important it is for Muslim men to spend time with their families. The Prophet Muhammed, peace be upon him, always helped his wives with their housework, and he instructed us that this would be counted and rewarded by Allah as charity. His cousin Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, was also a model of Islamic courtesy and chivalry. He was a familiar sight at home, playing with his children. These Muslim men were courageous warriors, and yet, they treated their families with loving kindness.

The role of the man in the marriage relationship is that of provider for the family. Many men complain that this is not fair. “Why is it MY job to pay the rent?” This is because in Islam, childbearing, nursing and taking care of the household are considered work. The man is expected to provide his wife for all her needs, regardless of how much money she has independently. This right to shelter, food and clothing is, or should be anyway, the privilege of all Muslim women. Any money a woman earns outside the home and contributes to the household is considered by Allah to be charity. It is contrary to Islamic boundaries of proper courtesy for a husband to expect his wife to feel forced to leave her home and earn money for the needs of her children or herself. It is also completely inappropriate for a Muslim family to reside in an upper-class neighborhood if this income is dependent on the wife’s working and giving all her money to her husband.

At the same time, Islam has not restricted women to the home. This fact is obvious in the Quran (2:233) where it states, “If ye decide on a foster mother for your offspring, there is no blame on you, provided ye pay (her) what ye offered, on equitable terms.”

Quite simply, this means that if the wife does not wish to nurse the baby, there is nothing wrong with the husband providing a nanny or baby-sitter for their children, so that his wife can lead an active lifestyle, if that is her choice. Now in Islam, the role of taking care another woman’s children is a very respected role. It’s not just that you give some teenager $5 so that you can go out to dinner. No, the role of the nursemaid means that she is considered family to your children, such that they will never intermarry with her biological children, because they are “related by milk.” This provision is also a sort of an Islamic welfare system. A woman who is in need of income may seek employment in a Muslim household as a nurse for their children. The parents should make sure she is of kind heart and true character before entrusting their children to her care. And all the while she is in the home, they are obliged to treat her as they would treat themselves, in complete decency.

The relationship of the mother to the son is the closest relationship two human beings can have. That is why psychological studies show that boy babies are much more attracted to their mothers than girl babies, who demonstrate independence at a far earlier age. This is due to the Wisdom and Mercy of Allah’s great Plan, because the girl, when she grows up, will go on to be part of an entirely new family when she marries, and she will have her own children to bear and to raise. The boy, on the other hand, will be responsible for his mother until she dies. So the bond has to be very deep and very strong, that it will help the son to make the great sacrifices for the protection of his mother, especially in old age.

A Muslim is supposed to listen to his mother even before he listens to his father. It is our mothers who have the greatest impact upon our lives. Even while we were still in the womb, she gave us love and taught us about Islam. During our lives, she is the one who will grieve the most when we do something wrong. On the day of Judgement, Allah will ask each person’s mother is she was pleased with her child. Insha’allah, if we can make our mothers happy, then Allah will be pleased with us.

What is a Woman's Role in Islam?

Clothing provides physical protection and covers the beauty and faults of the body. Likewise, a spouse is viewed this way. Each protects the other and hides the faults and compliments the characteristics of the spouse.

To foster the love and security that comes with marriage, Muslim wives have various rights. The first of the wife's rights is to receive mahr, a gift from the husband which is part of the marriage contract and required for the legality of the marriage.
The second right of a wife is maintenance. Despite any wealth she may have, her husband is obligated to provide her with food, shelter and clothing. He is not forced, however, to spend beyond his capability and his wife is not entitled to make unreasonable demands. The Qur'an states: "Let the man of means spend according to his means, and the man whose resources are restricted, let him spend according to what Allah has given him. Allah puts no burden on any person beyond what He has given him." (65:7)God tells us men are guardians over women and are afforded the leadership in the family. His responsibility for obeying God extends to guiding his family to obey God at all times.A wife's rights also extend beyond material needs. She has the right to kind treatment. The Prophet (pbuh) said: "The most perfect believers are the best in conduct. And the best of you are those who are best to their wives." God tells us He created mates and put love, mercy, and tranquility between them.

Both men and women have a need for companionship and sexual needs, and marriage is designed to fulfill those needs. For one spouse to deny this satisfaction to the other, temptation exists to seek it elsewhere.

Islam has given many laws that keep the family life as strong as the a tree . all are connected with one another , the stem , the branches and fruits are all , here , concerned , there are laws that bind them all , mix them all finally melting them all into a strong unit of the society .

The prophet says" Among my followers the best of men are those who are best to their wives, and the best of women are those who are best to their husbands. The word ( best ) here means the most pious , the best in God's eyes , a method to urge husbands to act well towards their wives .

Once Mu'awiyah asked the Prophet, peace be upon him: "What are the rights that a wife has over her husband?" The Prophet, peace be upon him, replied: "Feed her when you take your food, give her clothes to wear when you wear clothes, refrain from giving her a slap on the face or abusing her, and do not separate from your wife, except within the house." Once a woman came to the Prophet, peace be upon him, with a complaint against her husband. He told her: "There is no woman who removes something to replace it in its proper place, with a view to tidying her husband's house, but that God sets it down as a virtue for her. Nor is there a man who walks with his wife hand-in-hand, but that God sets it down as a virtue for him; and if he puts his arm round her shoulder in love, his virtue is increased tenfold." Once he was heard praising the women of the tribe of Quraish, saying: " . . . because they are the kindest to their children while they are infants and because they keep a careful watch over the belongings of their husbands."

If her husband is straying from the will of Allah, advise him on the points and keep praying (making dua). Insha Allah, he will become a true Muslim soon.

They both as of now reside in their respected
countries until all immigration papers and documents are in effect for her permenancy to become and remain an US citizen.

Both are practicing muslims and have completed half of their religion by this beautiful union.
