Patagonia grew out of a small company that made tools for climbers. Alpinism remains at the heart of a worldwide business that still makes clothes for climbing – as well as for skiing, snowboarding, surfing, fly fishing, paddling and trail running. These are all silent sports. None require a motor; none deliver the cheers of a crowd. In each sport, reward comes in the form of hard-won grace and moments of connection between us and nature.

Their values reflect those of a business started by a band of climbers and surfers, and the minimalist style they promoted. The approach we take towards product design demonstrates a bias for simplicity and utility.

At Patagonia, a love of wild and beautiful places demands participation in the fight to save them, and to help reverse the steep decline in the overall environmental health of our planet. Patagonia pulls environmental groups all over the world to work to help reverse the tide.

Southern Marsh was inspired by those who understand the southern lifestyle as they take it with them everywhere they go. The friends getting up at 4 a.m. to make it to the blind before sunrise, the father cashing in vacation days to go fishing with his family, or the southern belle spending a timeless afternoon with great friends. The Southern culture is full of rich character that reminds us to give thanks for the little things that make life more enjoyable every day. Scott has a wife, two boys and two labs who live on a farm in rural South Carolina and spend as much time as possible at Edisto Beach, South Carolina.

Heybo was born so that Scott can pass on to future generations what he enjoys the most: whether he's in the woods or 50 miles out in the ocean, when the sun breaks the horizon, that's what he lives for. He wants to be able to pass this on, and Heybo is the best way for him to do it.

Salty Crew is big on supporting the local retailers, like Islanders Coastal Outfitter. They have it featured in all caps on the front page of their website!

Salty Crew also reminisces on time before surfing was cool, they refer to it as the "golden age". A time when surfers were wild men and women, cast out from society, and probably by choice.

These men and women found the sea better than the society they had been expelled from. So, they spent their lives out on the water. When the waves were flat, they fished or dove, and when the wind picked up, they sailed, but never left the water. Salty Crew claims that this attitude has left the surfing world, claiming that it's been lost somewhere along the way.

They think surfing culture has left the beach and fizzled up and left to dry inland. Salty Crew exists for the people who still choose to lead a lifestyle supported by the ocean, those who choose to keep it Salty, who find their refuge in the sea.

The brand started out when a couple of buddies went on a fishing trip and come up with those two simple words. Don Combs, an original founder of the company, said that he didn't come up with the idea, but he was one of the original people to make the brand go.

Combs, a local from Northeast Florida who was known for catching the second Blue marlin ever and also founded the King Buster tournament, is good friends with one of the brand originators, Troy Hutto. Business didn't quite take off like they had hoped, so the two welcomed new partners: Combs and Richard Thompson for marketing; Roger combs for accounting and Erez Wolf for tech things.

Things took off for them when The Combs brothers, who owned C & H Lure Company, started including free Salt Life decals with every shipped order. On top of that, they got the SKA Pro Division fishing tour wearing Salt Life clothing. During the events, they brought along Salt Life gear to the big trade shows. By then, the business had boomed.

Creatures has prided themselves in creating the thinnest Surfboard Traction Pads on the market for as long as some people can remember now. Back in the day when Taj Burrow surfed for Creatures, he was at the warehouse and said he needed a few new Traction Pads. Taj was shortly after seen picking out some Creatures of Leisure Traction Pads and tossing others to the side. On the outside, all of the pads looked similar, so Taj was asked why he was only keeping some and tossing others to the side. Taj responded that he wanted the thinnest pad possible, because it makes him feel his surfboard better.

Matthew Valiollahi noticed as a student the many styles and varieties of t-shirts his peers were wearing. He was inspired by those designs as well as Garden and Gun magazine, which celebrates Southern culture. Matthew wanted to create a brand of high-quality t-shirts and casual wear with distinct Southern style and flair. During his senior year at LSU, he met a friend named Stephen Smith who he asked to design the Southern Marsh brand, with its trademark mallard logo.

They began selling their designs while they also began to investigate quality of fabrics. During this time, they came up with an even better idea: to build t-shirts from the yarn stage and create quality garments from the ground up. A professor, Walter Morales, helped them to refine their business plan for this idea. The pair could not find any capital or backers, so Matthew put down a good bit of h is personal savings and got access to a credit line from the bank using the equity of his house.

For the first year, Matthew reports that no one thought the idea would work. He said that everyone thought that the market was already dominated by the old guard (Izod, Lacoste and Brooks Brothers) or even saturated by the lower-end, mass-market guys. Now they claim to focus on careful control of brand identity as they expand their footprint, and plan to spend around 10% of their revenues on print and digital advertising in the coming year.

There may never have been a company founded quite so accidentally as Howler Brothers, which as grown from niche supplier to a player in the outdoor apparel market and record timing.

Andy Stepanian, who co-founded Howler Brothers with Heard and Mason Brent, explains that the company started with some sketches that Chaser Heard was working on for another clothing company. He further explains that Chase is a really talented graphic artist and did a lot of painting and illustrating on the side during the height of their band years together. Chase is originally from Florida, so a lot of his designs have a coastal vibe to them. When Chase showed the designs to Andy, it sparked the idea for Howler Brothers.

All three of the founders for Howler Brothers met in the fourth grade. Being friends for life, they attended college together at the University of Virginia, where they absorbed the business skills that allowed them to successfully run a clothing company by day while continuing to tour and play music together by night. Despite that their clothing brand has been an overnight success, the three founders are adamant on continuing their band and tours, claiming that it's very much a real thing and is not going away any time soon.

Kavu, which means Klear Above Visibility Unlimited, is based out of Seattle and founded in 1933 by a team of climbers and outside enthusiasts. People recognize the brand for its outdoor-lifestyle clothing and accessories, which are designed for convenience, but also get used for everyday needs. Kavu combines simpleness, romminess, convenience, as well as comfort that their backpacks and bags bring.

These bags are ideal for climbing, work, a health club or even being out and about. Their distinctive characteristics are their flexible rope straps that sit perfectly over the shoulder and over the back just like messenger bags. Many people claim that the bags are good for keeping things organized, especially for people who need to keep their hands free, such as rock climbers. They do however make stylish bags for everyday use, which have the main component for large items like clothing and groceries. Then there's the smaller, padded external pockets for cell phones, purse or keys.

The messenger styling of the rope straps is one of the many reasons that the bags are extremely popular, because its users like that the straps stay round the shoulder that makes the bags comfortable, therefore making it a far more convenient option when compared to other handbags or a big rucksack.

38-year-old landscape irrigation contractor, Troy Hutto, and his friend of 20 years and fellow surfer, Mike Moore, became business partners last year when they decided to launch a clothing line based on their matching tattoos: Salt Life. Neither of them realized how quickly their idea of Salt Life would catch on.

They both surf, fish and lie on the beach, living the salt life. They both got the tattoos and then got some stickers and they reported that people kept asking for things, and it took off from there. They initially invested about $80,000 in their company, with about $30,000 going towards promotional and office expenses and the rest was for merchandise to sell from their internet site, local surf shops and a small booth in Neptune Beach Outlet Mall.

The company now has a surf team, and has landed endorsements from professional surfers and band members of Jacksonville's Limp Bizkit and alternative rockers Evan Essence. Hutto nor Moore plans to quit their day jobs as contractors, but both of them want to continue to grow the company as they have in the last year - by gut instinct, and not a business plan.

Costa Del Mar has been environmentally friendly since 1986 when the company became the first official supplier of polarized sunglasses for conservation organization NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The brand has become top supplier of shades and gear for fishers, anglers, boaters and adventurers. They are long-time supporters of philanthropies like the Coastal Conservation Association.

Costa recently decided that they didn't like the carbon footprint they were leaving on the earth and moved on to design a new, more sustainable trade show booth with reclaimed wood. The brand did this by finding a 100-year-old horse and hay barn in Glen Easton, WV, that was scheduled to be torn down, and sent in a team of carpenters to dismantle the barn, board by board, over the course of two days. Because they remodeled old wood and old furniture, they claim people are more comfortable and at home when they come.

Costa said that they cost to recycle and transport reclaimed wood was higher than wood sourced directly from a lumber yard, but the environmental impact was much lower, so that brought the company in line with its earth-friendly goals. The booth's history also serves as a great conversation starter. The Carmichael Barn, named after a family who owned the land, was originally constructed in 1910. The grandchildren of the man who originally built this barn still lived on the property and planned to use the barn's foundation for their new home, but they were really happy that it would be reused and not just torn down and thrown away.

Why Belts? Arcade Belts is the Answer

Arcade Belts has recently opened more than a 1,000 stores across North America over this past year alone and has been consistently growing in countries such as Australia and Japan. One of the co-founders, Tristan Queen, commented that this is just the beginning of this company's growth. When asking the three co-founders Queen, Townsend and David Bronkie why they decided to enter a market for performance belts, they said that it was never about looking through a list of ideas to find an un-tapped category, but it was because they felt that belt designs at retail were low quality and outdated.

In 2010, the owners decided that they would do something to change that, and brainstormed for lighter, more versatile, better performing belts. They didn't enjoy wearing uncomfortable leather belts while enjoying hobbies like snowboarding, skiing, skating and hitting the beach. They decided to use fishing wader belts as the original template for constructing a new performance-centered material belt. Within that same year, Arcade Belts was born.

Now, their products are organized by those who travel (meaning you can wear the belts through airport security without having to take them off, and you can also wash them right along with your pants) and for those who are living actively in general.

During the latest London Men's Fashion Week, there was one trend that stuck out the most throughout all the runways: outdoor performance shoes and performance gear. The runway featured footwear styles such as trail running sneakers and bulky hiker boots. Luxury designers used pre-existing shoes styles from traditional outdoor brands like Clarks, Marmot, The North Face, and Merrell that create Hi-Tec hiker boots. Luxury Designer Christopher Raeburn is continuing his ongoing partnership with Clarks, and this season the two brands featured a series of lace-up boots with sturdy Vibram soles.

We'll also be seeing techy stretch knit with no laces. Brands like Vans, Clarks, Nike and Adidas will begin coming out with performance tennis shoes that feature elastic or strapless shoes. Lebron James was recently seen with strapless tennis shoes, and now companies are catching on to the trend that will be huge come fall 2017.

We are offering Adidas Outdoors and Danner boots to our customers that provide that casual hiking athletic boot look.
