Witch Hazel Distillate

"Witch Hazel is an alcoholic extract from the leaves, flowers and bark of the hamamelis tree. It contains a mixture of 85-86 % aqueous witch hazel extract and 14-15 % ethyl alcohol as a preservative. One of nature's best astringents, there is probably no better tonic or toner for skin care preparations. It is frequently used in products like after shave lotions, where it shows mildly styptic properties as well as helping to reduce razor burn and swelling through its cool soothing sensation. In skincare, Witch Hazel can be used as toner or in place of a cleanser. It is particularly beneficial for oil and problem skin through its more gentle properties."

Ricebran Oil

"Rice Bran Carrier Oil is extracted from the bran or outer coat of the brown rice grain removed during the milling process. It is rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins and essential oils. Rice Bran Oil also has constituents believed to hinder UV rays absorption at the skin’s surface.

Rice Bran Carrier Oil has a high percentage of fatty acids and unsaponifiables and is one of the best sources of tocotrienols, an antioxidant that may be much more powerful and effective than Vitamin E. It is a mild oil perfect for dry/flaky, sensitive, mature and/or delicate skin (e.g. baby), where additional moisture is required and is effective for keeping skin smooth.

Rice Bran Carrier Oil contains a compound called gamma-oryzanol, a component that can impede the progress of melanin pigmentation by restoring the erythema activity of the tyrosinase enzyme as it intercepts the UV rays at the skin’s surface, hindering UV ray transmission. As such, Rice Bran Oil is used in many types of skin and hair sunscreen products and is incorporated into shampoos, conditioners ad special hair treatments where it adds sheen while moisturizing and conditioning the hair without weighing it down. It is even used in lipsticks providing lip conditioning and strong mold stability, and in nail polishes to provide smooth spreadability. Usage levels in formulations are 0.5 - 10 %."

Grapeseed Oil

"Grapeseed Oil is heavily used in skincare formulations for creams and lotions, and in aromatherapy. It is the preferred carrier oils for many massage therapists because of its light, satin like finish. It also has some astringent qualities and is good for oily, acne prone skin."

Sunflower Oil

"Sunflower Carrier Oil has high amounts of Vitamins A, B, D and E, minerals, lecithin, insulin, unsaturated fatty acids, and by all accounts, it is a good product for the skin.
Sunflower Carrier Oil is a versatile oil that can be used in massage, manufacturing, and in aromatherapy."

Virgin Sweet Almond Oil

"Sweet Almond Carrier Oil is an excellent emollient and is known for its ability to soften and re-condition the skin. It is rich in proteins, Olein Glyceride Linoleic Acid and Vitamin D, and is considered extremely nourishing - particularly when used regularly. It can be expected to sooth dry skin and irritated areas. Massage therapists should note that it can stain sheets.
Sweet Almond Carrier Oil has been used as an aromatic-bitter for anorexia, as a digestive tonic, to promote menstruation and to reduce fever and expel worms. It is also used by massage therapists."

My Little Craft

I came up with the idea for this Bridal Boutique while thinking of how to maximize the new ISLAS space in Libis. We've seen bridal stores in malls and I used to put my products in one and was being offered display spaces in others but the usual set-up of these stores never really grew on me.

Being a recent bride, I went through the usual ropes of having to make tons of decisions. We (husband and I) went to a bridal fair twice... once to go around and the other time I had a booth in the fair itself. It's really nice to see your options and be offered on-the-day deals, but I'm not the type who will say Yes on the spot to a supplier I haven't sat down with and researched on just because of a promo given the sea of offers in the same venue.

What's different with My Little Craft is you'll see only one supplier per category. The idea is to have a bridal boutique with handpicked suppliers to help you make decisions. We're an all female group blessed with so much creativity and talent. What we all do for a living is our "little craft". We're a team who can vouch for one another because we are fans of each other. I love having meetings with these girls. We come up with different ideas for the same thing and somehow they're all complimentary. Creativity is literally popping out from everywhere and we end up having a natural high from talking. Attitude is also one of our strengths. We're all easy to talk to and very sensible, and no one charges an arm and a leg for their products & services.

Our opening is set for October 22 and I hope everyone who gets to read this can come. We're serving cocktails from 5pm onwards and you can look forward to raffle prizes, goody bags and a week long promo for people who want to buy retail items or book us but need time to think. Last but not the least, you'll meet our fab team composed of Hyds Valencia, Isabel Celdran, Jenny Maagma, Maita Quesada and Mayone Bakunawa.

A new home for Islas!

We're moving to Libis on mid October!
More details will be posted as we get nearer the launching but for now what I can promise is the return of one-on-one workshops, bigger space, wider selections of Essential & Fragrance Oils and packaging supplies.
I searched and successfully found partners who share my passion of making pretty little things from our God given talents and I can't wait to introduce them and their products. We're putting together a wonderful shop which I hope everyone can visit. I'm sure you'll find something there that'll interest you!

We now have 10 gram balm jars available in the store. This pretty container is very handy and has a beautiful shape and color. There's space to put your round labels on the cover and the color of the container is translucent white. ISLAS in Metro Weddings & Wedding Essentials!

A few months ago, my wedding florist and stylist Teddy Manuel contacted me to ask if I could send some giveaway samples for bridal magazines Metro Weddings and Wedding Essentials. I got very excited and started working right away.

For Metro Weddings, the shoot was in Tagaytay and theme was "Pure". The invitation design from Printsonalities was sent to me via email and I did some Photoshop to be able to use the graphics on the bottle's labels. What I came up with was a Welcome Basket which had Anti Mosquito Body Oil, Healing Sunblock Lotion and Shower Gel in a basket. Here's a scanned image from the magazine:

The Wedding Essentials shoot on the other hand was done in Shangri-la Boracay and the theme was something like melon and silver gray with a hibiscus flower as main accent on invites. Again I was able to get a copy of the invites made by Printsonalities and so I integrated it with the label designs of all products plus the thank you tag. I sent Teddy a set of personalized laundry bag and towel with his name embroidered on it, plus some Linen Spray, Hand Soap and Balm. I also sent him an electric burner wrapped in gray fabric and accented by a white floral topper. Again, here's a scanned image of the magazine:

ISLAS Products as Wedding Giveaways!

I got married last January and decided to give away my products as gifts to guests and the whole entourage. Here's what we came up and how it was wrapped. Special thanks to my mom for doing all the packaging!

Guests

For the guests I packed a set of Linen Spray, Bottled Hand Soap and Ache Balm. This is actually my must-have when traveling and found it perfect to give out since our wedding was out of town and a lot of our guests were staying overnight. The linen sprays were in glass bottles, hand soap in a nice PET bottle with pump and the balm was in a small jar. I designed the labels myself and my mom did the packaging for all gifts.

Principal Sponsors

We wanted to give them something we personally manufactured so they received Electric Aroma Burners, which I wrapped with shiny pinkish lavender fabric and topped with a huge flower with feathers. We also gave them thick cotton blankets embroidered with their initials. The blankets were made in the blanket factory of my husband. They've been making them since the 60s and some hotels actually order these from them.

Male and Female Entourage

For our entourage we gave personalized laundry bags and anti-microbial towels which had their names embroidered on them. We decided to give these since most of them like to go on weekend trips and we wanted them to have something really useful.

New scents have invaded our store and I'm sure you'll love them as much as I do! We now have the following on hand which you can use as raw material in making linen sprays, massage oils, shower gels, lotions, hand sanitizers and soaps:

OLIVE Fragrance Oil

I'm a big fan of The Body Shop's Olive collection and I super love their dry oil mist and shower gel. When I saw my supplier had this I just had to get it and spread the love for this heavenly scent. I tried it on my electric burner at once and as expected, it smelled so good in the store! For some reason though the spread of this scent isn't very wide since it's a little mild so I'd recommend this for smaller spaces. If you're using tealight burners though I think it will be a different story since the flame from the tealight tends to really spread whatever scent you put.

This fragrance oil's color is light yellow/green so some discoloration might occur for those who plan to use this on melt & pour soap.

PINK GRAPEFRUIT Essential Oil

Yup, this is new. What I used to have was Grapefruit Essential Oil but now we have Pink Grapefruit which is so much more irresistable than the plain one. Pink spices up everything when mixed with something plain and Pink Grapefruit has the same effect. It has an inexplicable sweetness and sourness combined and it smells fruity yet funky.

LEMON Essential Oil

Lemon is a popular ingredient used in cleansing. It has a somewhat sharp, citrusy scent and I personally use this in combination with other oils because by itself I don't find it totally enticing but when combined with others, it gives a kick which makes the resulting scent much more interesting. As with other citrus scents, this is photo sensitive and should not be used before basking in the sun as it can cause irritation especially to those with sensitive skin.

BASIL & BERGAMOT Fragrance Oil

A very fresh and clean smelling scent that gives you that feeling of lightness everytime you smell newly picked leaves from herbal plants. It works its way up to your senses and says PEACE. It's the perfect scent for shower gels. Imagine coming home after a long day at work and stepping into a hot shower using this invigorating shower gel that just makes you close your eyes in total relaxation. This is also a perfect linen spray scent that you can use after some general cleaning. The scent is totally refreshing you'd want to sit and smile all day enjoying it.

CHRISTMAS HOME Fragrance Oil
This reminds me of how Designers Blooms stores used to smell during Christmas time. It's a mixture of cinnamon with some woody, musky tones I can't explain but it sure does smell like Christmas in there! This is the perfect scent to put when hosting Christmas parties. As soon as guests walk in the house, they'll smell and feel the Christmas spirit. (I recommend using this on burners placed in big spaces, as the scent can be a little too strong and overwhelming if you put it in a small area)

Electric Aroma Burners - Design Inspiration

Our new batch of Electric Aroma Burners just arrived and boy, do they look pretty! The new burners come in 4 colors namely Ivory White, Celadon (green), Woody Brown and Deep Blue. I did the design while superb pottery artist Tita Lanelle executed the finished product.

This season's design is an olive tree twig. Inspiration came from the story of Noah's Ark, wherein Noah sent out a dove to check if the land has dried up from the flood, and the only time he knew it was okay to go down from the Ark was when the dove came back with an olive tree twig on its beak.
