Israeli NICE Systems, a leading global provider of advanced solutions that enable organizations to extract Insight from Interactions to drive performance, recently announced that it has received another follow-on order from the Ministry of Railway (MOR) in China, for NiceVision Net, the Company’s end-to-end solution for video security with content analytics.

The IP-based video security NICE solution was selected following successful implementation on the Qing Zang rail — the railroad connecting Lhasa in Tibet to Germu in Qinghai, and the Beijing-Tianjin inter-city passenger line — the country’s first high-speed passenger rail service.

The Israeli company’s business partner for the project is Smartron Technology (China) Inc.

The Hefei-Wuhan high-speed rail line, which is expected to launch in 2009, is part of a massive upgrade and expansion of the railway system of China and is part of China’s first high-speed train service.

The Hefei-Wuhan rail line, which is part of the line which runs from the east coast of China to the heart of China’s mid-west, will serve as a great contributor to the economic development of the Anhui Province of which Hefei is the capital.

The Israeli scalable IP-based video security analytics solution will be deployed to help protect the railway including its tracks and stations, to verify that there is no destruction and to prevent accidents. By providing real-time alerts to security personnel, the result will be enhanced passenger safety and better asset protection.

NiceVision Net will provide video security unprecedented reliability, with a high availability architecture that is supported by unique features, such as patent pending Zero Points of Failure encoder redundancy, ensuring non-stop surveillance under any condition for mission critical applications.

Troops to have superhero capabilities by "seeing" through concrete Camero’s new Xaver 3-D ‘Through-Wall Vision’ will give a person searching a building the ability to tell if someone is in the next room in seconds. New tool builds on success in Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) arena and expands into Tactical Operations and Special Forces.

X-ray vision is no longer just for sci-fi movies and superheroes. Now, superhuman powers are closer to real life than you might think. Israeli start-up Camero has developed a new device called the Xaver that can see straight through walls.

Xaver is designed to find people through walls and tell you where they are and how many there are. The device can see through plaster, brick, even reinforced concrete. It quickly identifies who or what is in a room and what’s happening behind the walls.

Xaver works by sending Ultra Wide Band (UWB) radio waves through a wall or door. Oddly enough, the wireless signals the UWB waves emit consume less energy than a standard cell phone.

In effect the UWB waves bounce off objects in a room and bounce back to the device which creates an image of objects in a room. The trick is that the camera can capture the signals even in cluttered environments or through solid objects.

The moving flashes of light indicated by Xaver represent people or furniture in a room. Whilst Xaver cannot produce a photo of what is happening on the other side of the wall it can exhibit shadow-like reflections that look like a cloud. These images can be enough to help save lives in case of a fire, or when there is a need to gain a strategic edge in urban combat.

According to Camero CEO Aharon Aharon Xaver was developed in a bid to find a solution to urgent operational needs, for instance when rescuing victims from a collapsed building or a fire, where every minute counts.

"Rescue forces often invest enormous resources and precious time in combing the rubble, or endanger their lives by entering the flames, even if it is not clear that there are any survivors behind the walls," Aharon explained.

Camero’s revolutionary breakthrough has helped the company to raise $14 million over the past year, bringing the total company capital investment to $20 million.

Rheinmetall Defence and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) have announced their new cooperation agreement on the marketing of the Heron TP UAV reconnaissance system for long-range operations in the Bundeswehr programme SAATEG ("imaging surveillance system for the depth of the deployment theatre") during the Berlin Air Show ILA 2008. This program has the task of contributing towards a comprehensive situational awareness within the scope of networked command & control, both over land and on the high seas or at the coasts.

At present, the German armed forces do not yet have a MALE (Medium Altitude Long Endurance) drone system that can be deployed for missions abroad in all the corresponding environmental conditions worldwide and on a 24/7 basis. The key requirements for the new system are capabilities for wide area real time surveillance and situation reconnaissance, target acquisition and battle damage assessment - including object and target tracking - as well as competence for precise identification.

The German need must be met in the near-term, i.e. the initial operating capability (IOC) is already planned for 2010.

For this program, Rheinmetall Defense and Israel Aerospace Industries are offering the long-range UAV system "Heron TP" - an advancement of the proven Heron system. Heritage of more than 400,000 UAV flight hours and 30 years of operational experience by 35 customers were implemented in the design and the development of the Heron TP.

The Heron TP incorporates the latest technologies to meet today’s operational needs of ISTAR forces.

Designed as a Multi-payload, Multi-mission platform to answer the requirements of the Israeli Air Force, the HERON TP presents a versatile robust, "all weather "capable MALE UAV system which complies with the SAATEG requirements of the German Armed Forces.

Developed in the framework of an Israeli Ministry Of Defense (IMOD) program several UAV’s were already manufactured and tested and it is ready now for serial production.

The Heron TP system meets the requirements specified by the Bundeswehr without any restrictions and, in addition, offers a number of major advantages. In the sensor area, it is equipped with the latest technology and offers a high degree of mission flexibility and considerable growth potential - especially with regard to payload. As a result, the system will make a significant contribution to the safety of the German armed forces in the operational area.

Rheinmetall Defense will be responsible for the complete ground infrastructure, ground control unit, interface to existing command & control infrastructures ("Germanization" of the system) and the entire logistics area.

The companies Rheinmetall Defense and Israel Aerospace Industries have already been cooperating successfully for some time now in other areas, e.g. the Bundeswehr program WABEP ("weapon system for standoff-capable engagement of single and pin point targets") and for the conversion of Boeing 747 passenger planes to cargo aircraft. This strong alliance offers further opportunities for the advancement of a joint technology basis, amongst other things, in the field of unmanned flight systems and Airborne Systems.
