The z-index property is used to create "layers" for your HTML elements. If you are familiar with image editing tools, you may have worked with layers before. This is a similar concept.

Elements with a higher `z-index` value will appear to be layered on top of elements with a lower `z-index` value. This can be combined with the positioning in the previous lesson to create unique effects.

Since the `back-wall` element will need to appear "behind" the other elements you will be creating, give the `back-wall` element a `z-index` of `-1`.

Typically, HTML is rendered in a top-down manner. Elements at the top of the code are positioned at the top of the page. However, many times you may want to move the elements to different positions. You can do this with the `position` property.

Set the position property for the back-wall element to absolute. An absolute position takes the element out of that top-down document flow and allows you to adjust it relative to its container.

some of your images have become distorted. This is because the images have different aspect ratios. Rather than setting each aspect ratio individually, you can use the object-fit property to determine how images should behave.

Give your .gallery img selector the object-fit property and set it to cover. This will tell the image to fill the image container while maintaining the aspect ratio, resulting in cropping to fit.

Your images need some space between them.
The gap CSS shorthand property sets the gaps, also knowns as gutters, between rows and columns. The gap property and its row-gap and column-gap sub-properties provide this functionality for flex, grid, and multi-column layout. You apply the property to the container element.
Give your .gallery flex container a gap property with 16px as the value

The ::after pseudo-element creates an element that is the last child of the selected element. We can use it to add an empty element after the last image. If we give it the same width as the images it will push the last image to the left when the gallery is in a two-column layout. MariaDB installation Story for MacOS High Sierra (10.13.3)

It's end up with mysql installation

I type in terminal

got answer

I understood MariaDB database is their on my computer so

It asking me

Enter password:

I enter the password correctly

it's give me the error message:

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2 "No such file or directory")

I wonder , it was working me on last time ,why not now because I uninstall the xcode from my mac.

brew command said xcode is old version update it or delete it , I delete that couldn't install new version of xcode this might be the reason for the above error.

Build Environment Setup for Mac says install xcode and macports

now I am installing new version xcode 9.2 through app store , it's take long time to install says narly 2 hrs , don't know the reason for this

I successfully installed xcode 9.2 but still I am got the same error for Maraiadb login.

Installing Macport since it's asked in the mariadb link Build Environment Setup for Mac .

I think mariadb can't alone working without installing mysql

Any fixed positioned element, the best practice is to ensure that one of the horizontal positioning properties (that is, left or right) and one of the vertical properties (top or bottom) are both set.

How do you center a block level element?

First, you may recall that block level elements take the width of their parent by default.

If the element is the same width as its parent, it is already centered.

So the first step is to limit the width of the element.

Setting the width property directly is not generally a good practice, but we'll just do that

Margins make space between elements and padding makes an element larger.

Most Web pages are viewed in a variety of browser sizes, especially on mobile devices like phones or tablets. Overuse of explicit width and height can make your page unviewable on smaller devices.

The flexbox layout system (which we will see next week) is incredibly powerful, but by over-determining explicit heights and widths you reduce its usefulness to you and your viewer.

border-spacing specifies the distance between two cell borders in pixels. This is different from padding which is space between content in cell and border.

By specifying the header, body and footer for the table, you can scroll these sections independent of each other.

The placement of elements on a Web page can be fairly complicated. One of the most basic features that influence where things go on a Web page is the CSS Box Model.

The Box Model governs 3 important spacing features of CSS, margin,padding and borders.

All elements in an html document end up being treated as rectangles somewhere in the window.

Just outside the content is the padding.

The border property has a lot more options than the padding or margin. Imagine using a pen to draw the edges of a rectangle. You can choose how thick the pen is, and whether you draw a solid or dotted line. You can even choose how you go around the corners, whether it's a sharp turn or a more gradual circular shape. All of these characteristics can be controlled by CSS properties, like border-width, border-style and border-radius.

To draw a border you need to know the width, style and color. There are defaults for these values, so you technically don't need to specify all of them, but it is the minimal info needed and is quite common.

The margin, specifies the position of the element relative to whatever is adjacent to it, either to the right or left, or top or bottom. The margin is always transparent, and each side can be set individually. The unique thing about the margin is that the values for any of the sides can be negative, even if that means that it overlaps with another element on the page. This can be useful when you want to control where an element is placed on a page.

Here blocks 1, 2 and 3 all have borders with different widths, but the margins are zero. There is no overlap, the borders are up against each other regardless of their width. The contents have different positions, influenced by the width of the border. If we were to make the borders invisible (fully transparent), the positioning of the contents would be the same.

HTML and CSS are not procedural languages, they are "Declarative". You declare what you want, and the computer makes it happen.

Accessibility concerns are important for CSS usage as well.

vh / vw
'vh' stands for viewport height, and 'vw' for viewport width. The vh and vw units work much like the percentage ( % ) unit. But instead of percentage of the parent, it is percentage of the screen (aka viewport). Obviously, vh is for vertical dimensions, and vw for horizontal dimensions.

vh and vw do not suffer the parent limitation that the % unit does. Most modern browsers support these units, but there are some exceptions on older mobile browsers.

Initially, the percentage(%) unit may seem very handy (and it is), and many developers fall in love with it. One of the limitations of this rule is that for it to work correctly, the parent must have an explicit width or height set. This limitation is particularly noticeable in the vertical dimension. If the parent element doesn't have an explicit height set then child percentages may be percentages of 0.

rgba() function can be used for semi-transparent colors. The fourth value is for the "alpha channel" (thus the "a" in "rgba") and means the opacity. It is a number between 0 and 1 (for example, 0.5 ).

margin property is the lynch-pin for positioning elements. Whenever you want to move something a little the margin property should be your first thought, when having layout problems, it is the first thing you should check.

when a browser receives a file, it may know that it's receiving an HTML file, but it won't know which version of HTML is used (it matters). That's why the first thing you need in any HTML file is a tag to tell you that what type of HTML file it is:

Margin and Padding:

The margin is the space around the element. The larger the margin, the more space between our element and the elements around it. We can adjust the margin to move our HTML elements closer to or farther from each other.

The border is the edge of the element. It's what we've been making visible every time we set theborder property.

The padding is the spacing between the content and the border. We can adjust this value with CSS to move the border closer to or farther from the content.

The content is the actual "stuff" in the box. If we're talking about a <p>element, the "stuff" is the text of the paragraph.

The margin and padding are Transparent.

The other two big differences is that padding is included in the click region and background color/image, but not the margin.

Compare block elements to pictures hanging on a wall:

The browser window is just like the wall.
The content is just like a photograph.
The margin is just like the wall space between framed pictures.
The padding is just like the matting around a photo.
The border is just like the border on a frame.

When deciding between margin & padding, it's a nice rule of thumb to use margin when you're spacing an element in relationship to other things on the wall, and padding when you're adjusting the appearance of the element itself. Margin won't change the size of the element, but padding will typically make the element bigger¹.

¹ This default box model can be altered with the box-sizing attribute.

You'll see abbreviations like TM, TB, and TP in the diagram. These stand for "top margin," "top border," and "top padding." As we'll see, we can adjust the top, right, left, and bottom padding, border, and margin individually.

Color Values

There are a lot of tools available on the Internet for looking up hexadecimal (or simply hex) color values.

Search for "hex color palette" or "hex color picker" with your favorite web browser to find a bunch of options!

Hex values always start with a pound sign (#), are up to six "digits" long, and are case-insensitive: that is, they don't care about capitalization. #FFC125 and#ffc125 are the same color.

It is similar to tools like Gulp or Grunt.

Why does webpack exist?

webpack, at its core, is a code bundler. It takes your code, transforms and bundles it, then returns a brand new version of your code.

What problem is this thing solving?

If you've ever used a CSS Preprocessor like SASS or LESS you know you need to transform your SASS/LESS code into normal CSS.

If you've ever used CoffeeScript or any compile to JavaScript language you know there's also a conversion step there.

So where webpack really shines is you're able to tell it every transformation your code needs to make, and it will do them and output a bundle file for you full of those changes (and some other helpful things as well like minification if you desire).

There are really three main steps and three main things webpack needs to know.

1) webpack needs to know the starting point of your application, or your root JavaScript file.

2) webpack needs to know which transformations to make on your code.

3) webpack needs to know to which location it should save the new transformed code.

The first thing we need to do is create a file which is going to contain our webpack configurations. Conveniently, this file should be named webpack.config.js and be located in the root directory of our project.

How to setup Node.js and Npm behind a corporate web proxy

For those who, like me, are behind a corporate web proxy, setting up Node.js and using `npm` can be a real pain. I thought that the web proxy settings would be like the rest of the unix world and require me to set the `HTTP_PROXY` and`HTTPS_PROXY` environment variables. Although I just cloned the Node repository from Github so they are already setup. What gives?

A little searching and I discover that npm uses a configuration file and it can be added to via the command line npm config set .... The key to getting it right is the spelling of the settings. This has bit me so many times now! Gettingnpm to work behind a proxy requires setting the proxy and https-proxy settings. The key is noticing the - (dash) is not an _ (underscore).

So the full procedure is install Node.js via the installer or source. Open an command prompt or terminal session and run the following commands to configure npm to work with your web proxy. The commands use proxy.company.com as the address and 8080 as the port.

npm config set proxy http://proxy.company.com:8080
npm config set https-proxy http://proxy.company.com:8080

Why the developers of npm choose to use a dash instead of an underscore like the rest of the unix work is beyond me. Maybe someone will add in an alias so setting https_proxy will have the same effect as https-proxy.

What NPM does ?
It allows you to easily manage different packages (modules) and keep track of which version you've installed.

npm init

This will initialize a new NPM project for you - just press enter until it stops asking you questions.

Now you'll notice that you have a new file called package.json. This file will, among other things, keep track of which packages or modules you've installed in your project.

npm install jquery --save

Two things should have happened.

First, you should now have a node_modules folder which contains jquery and any of jquery's dependencies.

Second, inside of your package.json file you should see that jquery is saved under "dependencies".

So now, say if you were collaborating with a teammate, instead of having to push your entire node_modules folder to github, your teammate can just clone your project and run npm install and all of your dependencies that are saved inside of your package.json file (in this case just jquery) will be downloaded to her node_modules folder.

You might have also noticed we used the --save flag when we installed jquery, what that does is it saves jQuery to our package.json file as a dependency. Without that, jQuery would have been installed into our node_modules folder but not saved to the package.json file.

How to build a "Hello World" application.

Environment Setup

Install Node.js and NPM.
Install BABEL plugin. As a browser can not interpret JSX(Explained later in this tutorial), we need to first convert it into JavaScript. BABEL will do it for us on a fly and take care of cross browser compatibility.
- Open command prompt and type “npm install -g babel”
- Install Babel CLI by typing “npm install -g babel-cli”
Install React
- Create a folder on desktop so that you can locate it easily.
- Run following command to create package.json file …..\Desktop\FolderName>npm init
- Type “npm install react --save” in command prompt. --save will update the package.json file with the packages.
- Type ”npm install react-dom --save” in command prompt.
Install WEBPACK Bundler. WEBPACK bundler will bundle the dependencies & JSX code together.
- Type “npm install webpack --save” in command prompt.
- Type “npm install webpack-dev-server --save” in command prompt.
Install Babel dependencies(In the same folder which you have created in previous step)
- Type “npm install babel-core --save” in command prompt.
- Type “npm install babel-loader --save” in command prompt.
- Type “npm install babel-preset-react --save” in command prompt.
- Type “npm install babel-preset-es2016 --save” in command prompt.

Create project file.

Create React component with JSX.

A react component let you split the UI into independent, reusable pieces, and think about each piece in isolation. A component is responsible for returning React elements describing what should appear on the screen.

JSX is syntax extension of JavaScript.JSX enables React to build DOM nodes with HTML like syntax.

React First converts JSX into Javascript file. Javascript file is rendered by the browser which then results into HTML code.

You would notice in the below code that we are returning a JSX code which looks similar to HTML code. The JSX code will be displayed in the browser as explained above. The HTML code will be updated in DOM as a node and thereby get displayed in the browser.

Uploading the logo/icon

Alternatively, instead of uploading the logo/icon via Drupal, use the Path to custom logo/icon textfield to point to an existing logo file on the server. This is often handy when the same image is being shared by multiple themes.

Yet another option is to simply place the logo/icon file in the theme’s folder and rename it to
logo.png/favicon.ico. Provided that the Use the default logo field is checked, the theme will

automatically look for this file in its folder and use it as its logo/icon.

Themes do not necessarily have to be placed at the root of the sites/all/themes folder.
For organizational purposes, it might be useful to create sites/all/themes/contrib and sites/all/themes/custom . This will allow us to differentiate between downloaded
themes and custom themes.

It is far easier to maintain and update Drupal when there is a clear distinction between the

core installation and contributed or custom modules and themes. It also ensures that we do not accidentally overwrite or lose our changes when we upgrade our site to the next Drupal release.

What is Drupal?

It is a open source Content Management System(CMS).It's more powerful than than Wordpress and Joomla CMS.

All content on a Drupal website is stored and treated as "nodes". A node can be one of a number of content types. A node is any piece of individual content, such as a page, poll, article, forum topic, or a blog entry.

Node module manages these nodes.Each node has an unique ID.

Blocks are the boxes of content (such as "User Login" or "Who's online") that can be displayed in regions (such as footer or sidebar) on your page.

Blocks are made available to your site most commonly by enabling modules.

Drupal (official Drupal website) is an open source content management platform. It is customizable, and can be used to organize, manage and publish content. Drupal is maintained and developed by a community of hundreds of thousands of users and developers. A Drupal theme is a collection of files that define the presentation layer.

Drupal theme UI Prototype challenges are similar to regular UI Prototype challenges in many ways, but there are some key differences:
- Drupal theme UI Prototypes are created using PHP, HTML, and CSS (Similar to WordPress Challenges)
- Drupal themes must follow specific rules set by Drupal (such as naming conventions and folder structures).

Apache Installation

The latest macOS 10.12 Sierra comes with Apache 2.4 pre-installed, however, it is no longer a simple task to use this version with Homebrew because Apple has removed some required scripts in this release. However, the solution is to install Apache 2.4 via Homebrew and then configure it to run on the standard ports (80/443).

If you already have the built-in Apache running, it will need to be shutdown first, and any auto-loading scripts removed. It really doesn't hurt to just run all these commands in order - even if it's a fresh installation:

$ sudo apachectl stop
$ sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.apache.httpd.plist 2>/dev/null
$ brew install httpd24 --with-privileged-ports --with-http2

This step takes a little while as it builds Apache from source. Upon completion you should see a message like:

🍺  /usr/local/Cellar/httpd24/2.4.23_2: 212 files, 4.4M, built in1 minute 45 seconds

I have 2 httpd.conf file , how can check which one is running?

$ apachectl -V | grep SERVER_CONFIG_FILE

httpd -V | grep SERVER_CONFIG_FILE

If you get a message that the browser can't connect to the server, first check to ensure the server is up.

$ ps -aef | grep httpd

You should see a few httpd processes if Apache is up and running.

You can watch the Apache error log in a new Terminal tab/window during a restart to see if anything is invalid or causing a problem:

$ tail -f /usr/local/var/log/apache2/error_log
