DNFMOMD on WAAF - Bay State Rock with Carmelita - video!

We had the distinct pleasure of performing on Bay State Rock with Carmelita on WAAF on 06/27/2010. We took "acoustic" to its most epic and silly conclusion, ukulele and glockenspiel, of course!

Because we didn't think that playing our drums/bass songs on glock and uke was weird enough, we also videotaped ourselves on playing on the radio!

Show tomorrow, 6/25 at The Middle East Upstairs in Cambridge, MA. It's psychedelia-inspired 28 Degrees Taurus' CD Release. The haunting and shoegazing Static of the Gods headline and Banditas open the night (we should be on second). FB Event - come out and meet our new merch mannequin (named Barbarella)!

Then on Sunday, 6/27 we'll be performing 4 songs acoustic on Bay State Rock with Carmelita on WAAF - you can listen online at http://waaf.com! We start playing right at 11:30PM. We're working the songs out on ukulele and glockenspiel - so it will be VERY different from what we do live!

Sophia was recently interviewed by Boston fashion blog, The New Brahmin on what goes in to getting ready for a show and about her personal style and fashion icons- they even took a few photos (on abandoned T property - we encountered a zombie house, a possibly rabid raccoon, and some rusty nails - you can't tell any of that from the photos, however!)

Finally, we'll be headed out on tour the last week in July - let us know if you'd like to see us in your town!

We had a really fun (if evasive) interview with Barry in our kitchen – he even taped us doing an impromptu stripped-down version of our Leonard Cohen cover, “First We Take Manhattan.”

Rock 'N' Roll Rumble PARODY, April 29th at Great Scott (presented by Quiet Desperation)

Rob Potylo has shed his Robbie Roadsteamer moniker and character, but he still has feet in both the local worlds of comedy and music. Rob has been busy making a crazy reality sitcom about the arts scene (and his life) in Allston - he's up to 19 episodes! You can watch them all on Youtube and at Quietd.com. DNFMOMD have been guests in the last two episodes of the show - here is the latest:

For an upcoming episode of the show, Rob has organized a parody/lampooning of the famed Boston battle of the bands, The WBCN Rumble. WBCN is gone, but we hear that the real Rumble will be back soon, again put on by the amazing local music show Boston Emissions (now on WZLX after the passing of WBCN) and its host Anngelle Wood.

The Rumble played a huge part in a huge growth in community interest in local music in 2009 and we are sure that its return will bring more of the same! Until then, Rob, who worked at WBCN briefly, is seizing the opportunity to integrate aspects of this legendary local event into his sitcom in parody form.

So April 29th at Great Scott - we were asked to perform at this show, dubbed the "finals" of the event. Also on the bill for the night: a full-band performance from Rob, HUMANWINE and King Hell.

The night will be taped for an episode of Quiet Desperation and promises to be an adventure. Facebook Event.

Ad Frank and The Fast Easy Women "Winterthru" Video!

Mike and I had the distinct pleasure of participating as extras (ahem, "talent") in this music video for the song "Winterthru" by Ad Frank and The Fast Easy Women. The video is great (certainly check out the other videos from Lost Jockey Productions including videos for Sarah RabDAU and Self-Employed Assassins and Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys) the song is great, the record (titled Your Secrets Are Mine Now) is great. DNFMOMD: CD Release Re-cap

April 3rd at Church of Boston - we released our brand new EP, The New Number 2 (go to music.donotforsake.com for info on how to buy). Thank you to everyone who came out to help us celebrate and a huge thank you to the AMAZING people and bands we shared the stage with.

Gene Dante and the Future Starlets gave a glizty, glamorous, and most of all glitter-fueled performance - we didn't grab any video of them - but they had their set professionally filmed - so keep an eye out for that!

Finally, Voodoo Screw Machine rocked us into the wee-hours and Satan was on their guestlist! One of my favorite moments of the night was Neil (singer of VSM) singing with a babydoll, ripping the babydoll's head off, singing with the decapitated babydoll and then finally dumping the "blood" of the doll body all over his head. AMAZINGNESS!

DNFMOMD: CD Release Press Round-UP

Our EP was officially released on April 3rd at Church of Boston (with some wonderful bands - another post on that soon!) and we really felt the love from the Boston community leading up to the show. Here's the run-down on what people posted and had to say:

Jonathan Perry of the Boston Globe (link to article) sat down with us and wrote up an really in-depth analysis of the band, "“The twosome’s musical attack — a fiercely churning alloy of voice, bass, and drums — is as spare as the group’s name is unwieldy, and bears little resemblance to John Barry’s spy scores or kitschy themes that marked television adventure of that era. If there is an overtly retro element to the music, it lies in Cacciola’s and Epstein’s noisy nod back toward the post-punk ’80s underground or the confrontational cacophony emblematic of the so-called Riot Grrrl movement of the early 1990s….As a whole, the songs deal with troubled states of mind — fear, paranoia, claustrophobia — and the distinct feeling that, yes, they are out to get you.”

Hilary Hughes at The Weekly Dig (link to article) wrote up our concept: "Boston's got indie bands and punk bands and synth bands and metal bands and rock bands and jazz bands, but does it have ... spy bands? Well, it's got at least one: big noise duo Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling. The name is lifted from an episode of '60s spy-themed television series The Prisoner...With a clear concept and a mod wardrobe, Cacciola and bassist Michael Epstein (who can also be seen fronting The Motion Sick, along with his trademark mustache) have set out to write one song for each of the series' 17 episodes....Catch a glimpse of the darkness at Church for their CD release party: "First, we take Manhattan ... then we take the Fens!!"

Meghan Chiampa at The Deli New England did an interview with us, and Mike's Mustache had a few words to say, "Without me, there would be no music. Without me, there would be pestilence."

Zed Equals Zee said, "Their music is loud, minimal (just drums, bass and vox), and angry. Themed off the TV series The Prisoner, their music and lyrics deal with similar themes of alienation and totalitarianism. Despite all that, their songs are inexplicably catchy (occasionally dangerously catchy, as I found myself singing/yelling along to “Gun gun gunning for you!’ as I drove on the interstate)."

TeaParty Boston reviewed the EP, "Cacciola’s voice has the raspy, weary yet ready for onslaught sound of Kim Gordon throughout the album. The first song, “Episode 1: Arrival,” is like being plunked down in a car chase scene at right at the beginning of a movie, where you’re still working to figure out who the baddies are, as Cacciola sings, “Gun-gun-gunnin’ for you.”

Musings from Boston said, "Pleasantly pummeling and hypnotic, the duo of Sophia Cacciola (on vocals and drums and Mike Epstein on bass, whip up quite a churning racket."

Playground Boston did a ticket giveaway and Boston Band Crush had me send in a few words on the night of music and Cheap Thrills recommended the night, "rock and rocky horror"

We were also honored to be a guest on WZLX's Boston Emissions, where we chatted about the EP, gave away tickets to the show, and played an acoustic version of "Episode 4: The Chimes of Big Ben" - Link to the show
