IBM plans to go big in Bangladesh

IBM, the world's largest provider of enterprise business software, is set to run free training programmes over the next three months for engineering students in Bangladesh to nurture batches of software developers in universities and research institutes.

“We will train the engineering students in IBM software at absolutely no cost in collaboration with the country's engineering colleges and universities to enhance their knowledge,” said Pradeep Nair, director of IBM Software Group for South Asia region.

Nair spoke at the Software Universe, the first ever IBM software conclave in Bangladesh, called “Smarter Software for Smarter Planet” at Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.

The company has planned to start the training programme for the engineering students of Bangladesh over the next three months to build a community of software experts and thought leaders in Bangladesh, said Nair.

“The country has a huge prospect for software industry because Gartner has recently listed Bangladesh as one of the top 30 software outsourcing destinations in the world,” said Gaurav Agarwal, a regional general manager of IBM Software.

Agarwal said IBM wants to invest in the IT sector of Bangladesh due to its rising economy and booming exports.

Besides, the country has around 70 million phone subscribers, with the numbers growing every month, he added.

Today, businesses across the world are going digital, infusing intelligence into everything from cars and roadways to agriculture, power grids and even clothes. However, this digitisation brings with it a number of challenges that can only be handled with the help of smarter software which are quick and easy to implement, flexible, scalable, robust and cost-effective in the long run, said Nair.

IBM, which operates in more than 170 countries, has a plan to work with the governmental agencies of Bangladesh to implement cutting edge e-governance programmes. They also want to partner with the country's banking industry to help implement BASEL guidelines, said Agarwal.
Agarwal said, “IBM also plans to replicate the success stories like Bharti and Idea to propel the Bangladesh telecom industry to newer heights.

At Software Universe, the company discussed IBM's portfolio of ready-to-work solutions. Business Partners also joined the conclave to gain insight into how to increase profit margins.
IBM that boasts $21 billion in annual software sales showcased its different software solutions such as Lotus, Tivoli, Web Sphere, Information Management, Rational, Business Analytic, and Industry Solutions to the business partners at the daylong conclave.

They also launched its smarter software portfolio which is completely integrated with its hardware and services offerings, giving customers flexibility and efficiency in business processes, empowering better decision making and enabling to work smart.

IBM has been doing business in Bangladesh in partnership with Thakral Information Systems since 1998.

No! we should not Celebrate Google’s Failures

Google says good bye to it highly engineered all in one collaboration tool Google Wave. Mathew Ingram in his post on GigaOM gave us this question - Shouldn’t We Be Celebrating Google’s Failures? See what Mathew says in his post -

But the idea that people might want to collaborate in new ways isn’t a crazy one, and the concept of blending wiki-type features with instant messaging and document management isn’t really all that far-fetched either. It’s possible that Wave was just a little too early, and that most people haven’t even gotten used to the idea of Google Docs, let alone an all-in-one Swiss Army knife version. That doesn’t mean it was a stupid idea.

I think with a huge potential, Google Wave showed us an excellent futuristic technology. Even they stopped supporting the product for further development, they should keep it alive and put it with other products as they did Google Docs, Calendar and Buzz with Gmail. Google has shown us future of collaboration with this Google Wave, may be we the users are not ready for such thing right now, they should follow different strategy for it’s campaign and make the world ready for this highly engineered product.

Although Google are using the technology to the other product they have developed for Wave, they should not kill the product forever, if I remember the quote correctly, about Wave being “what email would be like if it was designed today”. That’s a pretty big statement to make :)

Google Stops Development of Google Wave

Google declares that they are going to stop any further development of Google Wave. But the service will remain live to its users, says Google, although they say it may eventually come down. Google has also open sourced parts of the code and say they will create tools to let users “liberate” their data: Urs Hölzle, senior vice president of operations at Google, wrote in a company blog post –

“Wave has not seen the user adoption we would have liked. We don’t plan to continue developing Wave as a standalone product, but we will maintain the site at least through the end of the year and extend the technology for use in other Google projects. The central parts of the code, as well as the protocols that have driven many of Wave’s innovations, like drag-and-drop and character-by-character live typing, are already available as open source, so customers and partners can continue the innovation we began. In addition, we will work on tools so that users can easily “liberate” their content from Wave.”

I'm a Great Fan of Google Wave

I am one of the great fans of Google Wave (http://wave.google.com) for its features. It was one of Google’s most prominent new services, launched with lots of features in just one single application. Google expressed the product as next generation email, they said - if the email invented today it would be like Google Wave. Now it is one of its most prominent flops.

Wave Launched Two Months Earlier

Earlier, this real time messaging (I would say collaboration) platform was unveiled in May 2009 as developers preview to an enthusiastic crowd of developers at the Google I/O event in San Francisco. It fully launched this last May 2010.

What is Google Wave?

The product is part email, part Twitter and part instant messaging (IM) for real time collaboration. Users can drag files from the desktop to a discussion. Wave even showed character-by-character live typing. It had so many different features that it confused many users, who never figured out how it worked.

One of Wave’s major ideas — that the browser is replacing the desktop computer as the center of people’s computing lives — lives on at Google and is the central tenet of its Web-based Chrome operating system.

Wave Integration into Other Google Products

Wave's best ideas seemed better fit integrated into existing Google products like Google Docs, Calendar and Gmail, and the company seems to agree: it plans to "extend the technology for use in other Google projects." Facebook Passes 500 Million User Milestone

Facebook, the world’s most popular social-networking service, on Wednesday (July 21, 2010) announced it has reached a remarkable milestone: 500 million active users. It is up from about 400 million in February, earlier they have crossed the 100 million in just 5 months.

The six-year-old website now reaches 8 per cent of the planet’s population, just 18 months after it passed the 150 million user mark. This is one of the most-hyped and least surprising tech industry milestones of the past few years.

It started in February 2004, with a college-room project only available to the Harvard University people in the US. But that quickly grew to other universities, and then secondary schools, until finally in September 2006 the site threw open its doors to anyone over 13.

Zuckerberg said in a post on the company blog announcing the 500 millionth user (no, Facebook isn't saying who it is that, "I could have never imagined all of the ways people would use Facebook when we were getting started 6 years ago. I want to thank you for being part of making Facebook what it is today and for spreading it around the world."

Zuckerberg has also announced the launch of Facebook Stories, showcasing interesting ways that people have used the social network around the world. Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said in a video message. "Instead of focusing on numbers, we want to help people around the world hear about these stories for themselves, and we want to let you tell your own story."

It’s been nearly a month since iPhone 4 launched. Since the launch of iPhone 4, many issues have been reported with it such as reception tied to antenna design when you touch its antenna band. It also has some display discoloration problem, but Apple says they go away with time. The glass (front and back) of iPhone 4 is shattered, if you drop it from average height and some are saying it has also some proximity issues which are causing hang ups during calls. So, seeing all these problems, teqnolog has shared an amazing image in which they have highlighted the eight problems of iPhone 4.

The reception problem of iPhone 4 is when you hold the phone ‘incorrectly’ it interrupt the receiving. For this problem Apple responded not to hold it like that.

But, more and more people have been reporting iPhone 4G Problems with reception, and now they are offering Free Case for Every iPhone 4 Users. On a press conference Apple CEO Steve Jobs says all smartphones have problems, and they’ll keep looking into the iPhone 4’s particular issues, but meanwhile everyone gets free cases for their iPhone 4, and you can also get refunded for the Bumper they bought.

Mr. Jobs says to the iPhone 4 user that – “if you still not happy, before or after you get free case, as we have said - you can bring your iPhone 4 back undamaged within 30 days for a full refund. We want every user to be happy, and if we cannot make them happy, we get them full refund”

The offer applies until September 30. At that time, they will "examine" the situation again, and decide to extend the free bumpers or offer a different solution (hmmm, does that mean an updated iPhone then?).

It's good to see that Apple has acknowledged the problem and they are providing a free fix.

Cannot Send Email – Problem, Solution and Troubleshooting tips

How do you access your email everyday? Do you download your email to your computer? Is it a software in which you download your email? Or you just visit a website, login with your username and password to access your email? Is your email website (URL) looks like: http://mail.yahoo.com or http://www.gmail.com?

Whatever the process of accessing your email is - there are basically two different ways you can access your email: use a browser to access your email (Webmail) or use a PC email client. Outlook, Outlook Express (which is free and pre-installed on Windows Operating Systems), and Thunderbird are examples of PC email clients. Email clients must be installed as software on your PC (unless they are pre-installed). Webmail applications such as Google Mail (GMail), Yahoo! Mail, HotMail and others are typically offered through hosting services or free email services.

In this article we talk about how you can look after the small problem of your email clients. If you cannot send email through the email client the solution might be simple or very complex. Here are step by step instructions to determine where the fault lies.

1. Check your Internet Connection

If you see that your mail is not working in your email client, find out if you have a live internet connection - you might have forgotten to plug-in the cable or start the connection. Make sure that you are connected to the Internet.

2. Can you send email from webmail (web based interface)?

Most of the office email system has the webmail service accessible through the website, the URL might be - http://mail.yourdomain.com or on your company homepage there might be a webmail login area. Log in to your email account using webmail. Try to send a message (for testing send a message to your own email). If it goes through, fine. If it doesn't you would need to contact your web or internet service provider to know what's going on. For the case of official email, ask your IT administrator.

3. Did you enter the correct username and password

If the login details are incorrect your email client would not be able to connect to the email server. Double check the username and password that you had entered and try again. Generally, usernames of email accounts are derived from the email address. For instance, if your email is name@companydomain.com, the username would be name@companydomain.com. For your email server it may differ, ask your IT administrator for he exact username. Remember, passwords are case sensitive. So myemailpassword is different from MyEmailPassword or MYEMAILPASSWORD.

4. Cannot send but able to receive email

Typically, POP based email accounts have the same address for incoming and outgoing email servers. For example- if your domain is < companydomain.com>, our server address might be . Most of the time business email would have POP based email system. But, sometimes company may have separate SMTP server (the outgoing server) on their own within the company LAN, or can be located in ISP premises. So, know your server address/name from your IT administrator or service provider.

5. Is the outgoing email server address correct?

The outgoing email server (SMTP) address needs to be correct for you to send messages from the account. Check your SMTP server address, if your SMTP is within your LAN the address may looks like – 192.168.1.1, your local IP or static IP given to your server from your ISP. For a remote SMTP server maintained by your service provider may look like - <mail.companydomain.com>.

I have tried to give you an idea of solving your email by yourself, so that for any instant problem you could be your own support. By knowing some of those technical stuffs you can save your valuable communication time and get your work done.

10 Tips to Keep your Computer Healthy

In today's world, you cannot think of a minute even without a computer, even Internet is becoming our part of life. You need to be connected to the world, no matter it is for the office or for your friends and family. So, to keep computer being nice to yourself is not going to happen automatically. As an user, you need to keep your computer healthy to server you nice.

Here is 10 tips to keep your computer healthy and nice to you -

1. Environment: Place your computer in a moisture and dust free environment as much as possible. As well, shutdown your PC properly from the Start Menu of your windows desktop. When you are done with the computer better to keep it shutdown.

2. Uninterrupted Power Supply: You need an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) to avoid unexpected shutdown of your computer during the power cut. Specially in Bangladesh where power supply is not consistent anymore. For laptop you do not need that UPS.

3. Keep your HDD Safe: Do not just fill your computer's HDD (Hard Disk) with lots of data/file. Remove all those unnecessary files you may not need in future. If you need a backup of those files better to keep (burn) those in CD/DVD. So that your hard disk will have free space to breath. Most of us fills the bigger hard disk with hundreds GB of movie, this is not a good thing for your computer hard disk.

4. Defragment: Defragment your computer at least once in a month. Over the time all the data stored in your computer take place in a scattered fashions. Defragmenting the computer can help your operating system find those data and index in an organized manner. By doing that disk space can be free, as well data access rate may also increase.

5. Keep it Virus Free: Protect your computer with a good Anti Virus software that you can effort. I will recommend you to go for a licensed anti virus or go for a free anti virus like AVG. Keep your anti virus updated in a regular basis.

6. Careful with Removable Drive: Be very careful about Pen Drive, Flash Drive, or any other removable drive. Believe me, this removable drive is one of the good source that may cause to infect your computer with a deadly virus. If you have to open a pen drive in your computer, do scan with your updated anti virus to dis-infect it.

7. Internet Security: If your computer connected with Internet, you are much vulnerable. You need to keep your computer secured with updated anti virus that has the Internet Security active as well. Do not visit or download any data from unknown or unsecured website.

8. Uninstall Properly: Uninstall any software using the Control Panel's "Add Remove" option. Never delete anything that is software or files that may related to any software directly. Software should be uninstall from Control Panel. Deleting a software may leave some files orphan, and that will create a problem for Operating System.

9. Solve the Problem: Sometimes we just reinstall the Operating System for any problem without going for the proper solutions. This could be bad for your computer, for HDD as well. Try to solve the problem manually first. If you cannot solve the problem by yourself, go for an expert help.

10. Dust Free Computer: Clean up the dust in every 6 months inside your computer with a vacuum cleaner or blower. Clean inside the CPU, Mother Board, RAM and different cards inside the computer. Dust is a very bad enemy for a computer.

Many Twitter users follow their favorite celebrities, sports heroes, or brands. They often find and follow even more nearby businesses or experts in their relevant industry. Safe Use of Outlook Express

Most of us using Outlook Express for our office email, even for personal use. But, what a lot of folks fail to realize is - we are not conscious to keep our INBOX safe from any data lose or corruption. Outlook Express requires regular maintenance to keep it working without problems.

Without performing routine maintenance, Outlook Express may just choke and refuse to work. Here are some tips to keep your Outlook Express working well -

1. Keep your Inbox Smaller

Don't let the Inbox get too big. If the Inbox gets too big, Outlook Express may not open and the only way to fix it is to delete the Inbox, thus losing all messages located there. Expert says - the safest size of the Inbox is 2GB max.

2. Move Messages into Separate Folders

To prevent the Inbox from getting so big, set up rules to filter messages into separate folders. You can do the process manually, just select the emails and move those to a separate folder(s).

3. Delete Messages

Delete messages you don't need or want to keep. In your office there is always some mails those you do not need to keep record after the events over. Some mails from anonymous sender's also falls in this category.

4. Delete or Move Messages in Sent Folder

Delete the messages in the Sent folder once a month (at least), more often if you send a lot of messages (like we do in Apparel Industry in Bangladesh) or if the sent messages contain photos/image, videos, etc. If you need to keep a Sent message for any reason, make a new folder and name it Messages Sent and move the message to this folder. You can name it anything you like, but name it something relevant so that you can understand easily.

5. Delete the Messages and Compact

Delete all the messages in the Deleted folder once a month or more often if you delete a lot of messages or if they contain photos, videos, etc. (Do NOT store messages in the Deleted folder. While this may seem like a no-brainer, the warning comes from experiences with users who did just that!) Go to Tools/Options and click the Maintenance tab. Now click the Clean Up Now button, and when the next window opens, click Compact. (All those deleted emails are still hiding in Outlook Express, compacting will remove them for good!)

6. Keep Windows Updated

You should always keep Windows updated. Updates, especially SP2 for Windows XP, frequently fix problems with Outlook Express. You must ask your tech guy for updating if you are not so sure about it.

7. Outlook Express Size Limit is 2GB

Outlook Express has a size limit. (2GB) If someone sends you photos, videos, etc. that you want to keep, store them in folders in My Documents (or other folder as you like), not Outlook Express. Photos, videos, mp3 files, etc. can increase the size of Outlook Express faster than most folks realize. You can also copy emails to separate folders in My Documents. Just create a new folder in My Documents and put a shortcut to the folder on your Desktop, then drag any message in Outlook Express and drop it on the shortcut for the new folder. This is very useful for backup purposes. Once you click on one of those messages it will open again in Outlook Express. (I will write a separate post for - How to Backup your Outlook Express and email).

8. Move the Store Folder and Backup

My favorite tip for Outlook Express is to move the Store folder to a location other than the default location (most of the cases C:\ drive). Microsoft put the default location in a place that makes it hard to find for a lot of you. The default path looks something like this in Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities. Your location may be slightly different, but the general path will be very similar.

To make it easier to find (and a LOT easier to back up!), first make a new folder in My Documents or any other folder other then C:\ drive, if your My Documents please move it to other drive. Now name the folder something you will remember, like My_Outlook_Express or My_Email or Email_Backup_22_June_2010. In Outlook Express, click on Tools and select Options. When the Options window opens, click the Maintenance tab. Click the Store folder button, click Change and browse to the new folder you just created and select it. Close Outlook Express and re-open Outlook Express. Check the new folder to make sure all of the files are now in the folder. Now all of your email is located in My Documents and you can copy the email folder to external media to safeguard your email.

Backup Your Skype History Files

When chatting record should be kept for some reason, or you are chatting for business purposes - keeping your chat history is really an issue. Here’s the guideline how you can keep your Skype history files for backup or future references.

For Windows XP

The procedure for backing up your history files on a Windows XP machine is the following:

Locate the folder “Application Data\Skype\” and copy it to another location such as a CD or DVD-ROM.

To restore the history files just copy the files back to that folder.

These files are stored as .dbb files and can only be read with Skype itself. Unfortunately you cannot recover from a corrupt history file.

Be aware that the above files contain all of your chat room history files. You cannot save separate chat room history using that method.

/htmlhistory

If you want to preserve the history of one specific chat for reading it later, type “/htmlhistory” (without the quotes) into the chat text area and press enter. The entire chat history will open in an Internet browser. You can save it for reviewing later by selecting “File > Save Page As”.

Cisco Creates 'Ph.D' Technology Certification

Cisco's new Certified Architect aims to create a new class of IT professional, one that's able to design complex systems that meet business needs and objectives. The program is structured more like a doctorate dissertation than a traditional technology certification.

Many vendor and industry technical certifications - such as the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNA) - reflect a person’s mastery of technical domains, but not necessarily the mastery of technology in a business and design context. This certification is very new to the Bangladesh, but for the future of the IT in this country this could be a big one.

Today, Cisco unveils its newest and most advanced certification, the Cisco Certified Architect, a designation Cisco dubs “a master’s degree” in technology design. Rather than focusing on an individual’s ability to install, manage and troubleshoot specific pieces of technology, the Certified Architect is more about a person’s ability to put technology in a business context that produces maximum efficiency and highest return on investment.

Unlike certifications such as the Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP) or Cisco Certified Internetwork Professional (CCIP), the Certified Architect certification will have no training program and no formal test. Rather, individuals will have to apply for credential, complete a rigorous design project and appear before an expert review board of Cisco and industry professionals.

The process is very much like a Ph.D dissertation project. Once an applicant submits his credentials to the board and is admitted to the program, he or she will be given a design challenge. The challenge will require the applicant to design an integrated system that meets specific operational, budget and business goals. The applicant will have to present the design to the board and defend his choice. The board will award or reject the applicant based on the submitted materials and the quality of the presentation.

Cisco believes the process will take applicants six to eight months to complete, and cost approximately $15,000.

“It’s a significant commitment by the individual and their supporting organization,” says Weller. “There’s going to be very few of these people in the market. Those who have the certification are going to have an edge in credibility when dealing with large projects.”

The Certified Architect credential puts tremendous emphasis on putting technology into a business context, meaning that systems are designed to meet business needs and goals. Cisco believes this is necessary because, according to its research, businesses will waste more than $100 billion over the next five years on poorly designed IT systems.

Assuming that senior systems architects will need to interact with senior enterprise executives and boards of directors, Cisco is making communication skills a major component of the Certified Architect requirements. Applicants will be judge on the quality and finesse of their presentation skills when they present their projects to the review board.

Cisco expects to begin accepting applications for the Certified Architect credential this summer and hold the first review board meeting in the first quarter of 2010.

LAN Sync and Undo History: Two Great Feature of Dropbox

Dropbox team has been hard at work for the last few months updating some great features for this excellent service. Dropbox is changing Undo History, and can automatically:

Safeguards any files you delete in case you need to undelete them

Saves old file versions in case you need to go back to them later

It's like having "undo" for all your files and folders.

Now, Dropbox keeps these deleted files and old file versions ("undo history") forever. For many people this creates clutter, and it also wastes space. Because of this, from August 1st, Dropbox is taking the new policy which will keep 30 days of undo history. If you'd like to have unlimited undo history, then you need to upgrade to one of our paid accounts.

Performance Improvements and LAN Sync

In addition to that, Dropbox are also finishing up a new version of the Dropbox desktop software that features numerous performance improvements and an amazing new "LAN sync" feature. LAN sync knows will give you facility like - when Dropboxes are on the same network and will automatically exchange files directly between computers instead of downloading them from our servers - this makes sharing large files in an office environment much faster than was previously possible. No doubt this will save our Internet Bandwidth.

In addition to this change to undo history and LAN Sync, in the near future Dropbox will be releasing our free iPhone app that will allow you to access your Dropbox on the go, view your files, save them to your phone, and even take photos that sync instantly to your Dropbox!

Retired CCNA Certification Exam Availability Ends July 31, 2009

5 Steps to Speed Up your Computer

It is amazing how fast paced our lives are becoming. A task that takes us any amount of time can be done by computers so much faster. But few things are as frustrating as a PC that runs slowly and takes too long to load things. If you are a professional who depends on a fast running computer for your work, it’s even worse. It can cost you if it happens at a bad time.

A slow pc will not only make you less productive in your daily activities, but it will waste precious time that you could have been performing and completing other important tasks. Over time, if not corrected or fixed promptly, this slow performance can start to lead to computer crashes.

There are many factors that can and will cause your pc’s performance to deteriorate. At times, it can be very difficult to narrow down the possible problems, but most of the time it is a combination of many factors that contribute to the decrease in speed and performance.

Spyware and viruses are probably the biggest factors contributing to the problems with how your computer operates. There are others too, such as hard drive errors, not enough memory, errors in the registry, fragmentation issues, and insufficient RAM for your workload.

If you are to the point that your computer speed completely drives you crazy, you should be relieved to know that there are many different things that you can do to increase pc performance. The first and easiest way is to upgrade the components of your system. You should increase your RAM to 512 MB or more and make sure that your processor has a speed of at least 1.8GHz.

However, if those small fixes don’t seem to help speed up your computer, your next best solution is to clean it up. Cleaning up your pc is definitely not as hard as it sounds and if you follow these steps, you should be running faster in no time.

Anti-virus software can help a lot but it needs be run on a regular basis. Many people have let their software go out of date, so you’ll need to upgrade to an up to date version. If you’ve never had anti-virus at all, get it. The internet is a breeding ground for viruses and your computer is at risk.
If you don’t have a reliable spyware removal program, get one that kills all spyware two times per month.
Your hard drive needs to be defragmented regularly. Defragmenting is the process of collecting files from all around your computer and bunching them together to make more space available. It can take some time, but it will always make your PC faster.
Computers come with all sorts of program that you don’t need and will probably never use. It helps to get rid of all unused program to make space available for more important programs.
Don’t run multiple programs at the same time if you don’t have to. This puts a heavy load on your processor and will always make the computer slower.

If you follow these steps on a regular basis, you can insure yourself against future computer repairs and a lot of wasted time. Take charge of your computer’s performance by making these suggested fixes on a regular basis.

CCNA Exam Preparation Tips

Introduction

In the IT industry, the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) program is hugely popular and is in fact Cisco's most popular certification. CCNA was introduced in April 1998 and is the entry-level certification for the Cisco Career Certification Program.

Cisco’s globally recognized certifications certify the competence of Internetworking professionals in the areas of routing, switching and connectivity. And CCNA is the first step in this route.

The significance of CCNA isn’t just because it is the first step for Cisco certification, but it is in addition proof of a solid foundation in networking. It is a prerequisite for CCNP, CCDP, and CCSP certifications, and recommended for CCIP certification.

How to get the CCNA

Candidates have two paths to approach CCNA certification:

¨ a single-exam path that includes exam #640-801

¨ a two-exam path that includes exam #640-821 (Introduction to Cisco Networking Technologies, or INTRO) and exam #640-811 (Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices, or ICND).

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for CCNA certification.

Exam Interface

You need to be familiar with the nature of exam and the exam interface. “Cisco Career Certifications exams includes the following test formats: multiple-choice single answer, multiple-choice multiple answer, drag-and-drop, fill-in-the-blank, and simulations. Prior to taking the exam, candidates should become familiar with how all exam types function-especially the exam simulation tool. Such practice will allow candidates to focus their exam-taking effort on the exam questions rather than how to correctly use the tools”.

Exam Focus for the 640-801

With the exam changes in the 640-801 is to ensure that only those who actually learn Cisco’s stuff and can practice it can get certified. It has made CCNA tougher but it has also increased the credibility and value of the exam. It is indeed very hard to simply cram some materials and braindumps and pass the CCNA, without being able to configure a router.

What’s the exam like? There is a heavy focus on Access Lists, Switching, Routing protocols, Subnetting and simulation. Subnetting is key in the exam. You have to know how to subnet very well. Can you subnet in your head? You really need to be comfortable with subnetting before you take the CCNA. If you have doubts start practicing now.

Practice and understand access-lists very well. What are your access-list commands and what do they do?

Simulation

You need to build your speed in doing simulations. In the exam, simulations can make or mar your efforts. To prepare well you need to have access to simulators or real routers. The actual number simulation questions may vary from three to five. Essentially, the exam will test your ability to configure routers and switches in different scenarios. These scenarios are designed to test your knowledge of configuration and listing commands as well as your ability to pay attention to detail, and your ability to analyze and troubleshoot scenarios. Time management

The test is 90 minutes. To get a good score and keep your CCNA dreams and hopes alive you must manage your time well. Determine how long you will spend on each question.
